The best restaurants in Calne Central Wiltshire South West

I was so looking forward to having a decent Kebab for a change but Sammy your Doner Kebab meat was not good. Salad tasted fresh and was plentiful and I’d guess it would be ok if you’re were drunk but the meat was wafer thin and was chopped up like a two year old child’s meal. I even told you it was my first time visit. I won’t be returning if this is your best !

Best roast that we have had in a very long time. Amazing value for money, everything on the roast was cooked to perfection. Staff are lovely and attentive. Great selection of drinks, including Hawkstone lager.

Nice local cafe, good food, well run, with Friendly staff. Have previously had lunch here as well, which did not disappoint.

My wife and I decided to have lunch here, as we had not been before. Lovely quiet location and welcoming staff and atmosphere. Extensive menu choices with so many appealing options on offer. The spiced banana milkshake was amazing as was the pork belly kare kare. Delicious combinations and something different than the usual. So good we will be visiting again next week. Highly recommended and Tess the owner is lovely.

This was by far one of the best breakfast this year! Everything was so tasty and cooked to perfection. The staff are absolutely lovely, really friendly people and the café is clean and welcoming. Highly recommend.

A very pleasant restaurant, fresh decor and variety of seating areas. The warm toasted ciabatta of roasted vegetables and goats cheese was fresh and extremely tasty. The ciabatta was served with a small side salad of green leaves . The staff efficient and friendly, a relaxing atmosphere for lunch.

Really lovely place for some craft beers. Meet friends, staff are really friendly and knowledgable about the beers and local gins, if you don’t know what you want to order the staff take the time to find out what you like and pair a beer / gin to your taste, not failed us yet! We love this place it’s a little gem in the heart of Calne. Had limited opening hours so check it out before you go.

Popped in this evening to grab something to eat while i had a gap at work. The guy that served me was very friendly and welcoming which was nice. I had a large donna kebab, great value for money. Would definitely come back again.

On New Year’s Day we hosted 15 family members. We anticipated that we may not be in the best place to prepare food for the family, so asked the Spice of Bengal to help us out. They went above and beyond to provide us with a banquet of delicious food - it was prompt, hot and very well priced. If you’re having a similar event, I can highly recommend getting the Spice of Bengal to cater for it. I’ll definitely be using them again!!

Visited with family on Boxing day for lunch. We didn’t book but called ahead to see if they were doing lunches first. One member of our 4 person party asked for a Beef Burger and another 2 asked for Steak Baguette (advertised on the menu as warm). Around 10 minutes after ordering the lady from the kitchen (assuming the landlady) came and told us there were no Beef Burgers but could have chicken burger and also said that the Lasagne was recommended , which my cousin didn’t want so picked the Ham egg and chips. On arrival of the Steak Baguettes, we were handed a lukewarm steak sandwich on thin white bread which we sent back for a baguette , for the same lady to come out very confrontational to ask if we had a “sandwich/baguette issue” who then blamed it on the waiter who took the order . It was replaced with a cold and stale baguette and salad which had no dressing and no coleslaw as advertised. I was so hungry at this point I ate the steak and left the baguette and salad as they were too dry to eat. While we were there , a larger party came in, ordered multiple burgers and guess what? Yep you guessed it, they had the most glorious burgers arrive at their table, despite us being told they didn’t have any when we wanted just one! The burger was then on the bill when we went to pay the bill - which was quickly rectified by the brilliant bar staff when we told them. Will not be returning to the black horse , we found the lady very confrontational , and hygiene is questionable when she kept returning backwards and forwards and touching the table ,with the same blue glove on! We were disappointed as this used to be a great place for food and drink.

Reliably tasty, generous portions, we have been going for years since they took over the place and never even thought about going elsewhere. Top staff too, always a genuine smile!

I really like Chinese food, this is the worst ever! 1.6 miles away and exactly 1 hour for delivery at the princely sum of £4.50! “If you don’t like it come and pick it up” The crispy quarter duck was remants from some else’s meal, not a lot of meaty bits, just a load of crispy bits!. Poor service and poor food. Expense as it’s poor food and service. Never again
