Fay's Bistro in Wiltshire

A busy place with attractive river frontage with tables on the pavement, quick and helpful service. Good coffee and lovely large tea cakes! Cheese scones great also. Wide range on the menu easily accessible and a good size clean loo! We were impressed with this friendly bistro/cafe with a great atmosphere.

Lots of incredible, homemade, fresh vegan cake options! We had wonderful service, tasty coffee and it is a great location.

My husband and I popped in recently for a light lunch. Situated along the river bank with pretty views. It was a beautiful, sunny day and the outside tables were very popular and already full however, some seating was still available inside & it was actually cooler inside. This was a welcome relief from the outside heat. The menu was extensive. We ordered sandwiches, which were freshly prepared and tasty and my husband also had some if the dreamy Marshfield ice cream. Service was quick & efficient and the staff were genuinely friendly. The one thing I'd change would be the plastic table covers...I really don't like them & think they look cheap & unattractive. Prices were on the higher side, maybe more like London prices but nevertheless we would return and would recommend. Thank you.

As always a great welcome with a friendly smile from Fay along with the lovely team with nothing too much trouble & very happy help, so just ask them if you want anything on the dishes leaving out if you wish. The menu is varied offering something for everyone all freshly cooked to order extremely delicious, tasty, well prepared & presented with good value for money too. Our club sandwich with a salad Inc crisps & jacket potato with pesto along with sun ripened tomatoes was outstanding & gert lush right hit the spot from a very happy Yorkshire man & Wiltshire Rose. Superb food every time we visit. Very varied menu, lots freshly prepared on order. Staff always friendly and welcoming. Very fairly priced for the quality of food. Cannot recommend highly enough.

I was surprised to find Fay's open on Easter Sunday, and it was a great discovery, We stopped here on the way to the Atwell Wilson motor museum and there was a range of tasty food and very friendly staff.

Have had breakfast here a few times and also a light lunch. Comfortable, pleasant environment and good, well presented, healthy food. Two things that stand out: they do an excellent double baked jacket potato and their salad dressing is really good. Good enough to write a review about! The breakfast is also always satisfying and tasty. I like that things are not too oily and the grilled tomatoes are fresh (not from a can!)

Staff were welcoming and very pleasant. Food was exceptional and good value for money. We had the sharing fish platter with a side order of chips. Fresh cooked and very tasty. Highly recommend.

We regularly call in for a coffee or breakfast at Fay’s. The pancakes are the best around. Our dog is always welcome inside but obviously not able to be at tables near the kitchen door. Plenty of outside seating by the river with blankets to borrow on colder days. Staff always polite and friendly

We love a visit to Fay’s. It’s our local first choice go to when we want breakfast or lunch out, the food is always great. The staff are always polite and welcoming, nothing is ever too much trouble. I have celiac and they cannot be more helpful, gluten free cake is always on the menu and the gf pancakes are to die for!

Very disappointed. Looked online for somewhere that accepts dogs and this place popped up as one the best.. We could see space inside so started to walk in however was stopped by an arrogant young member of staff who stated "There is no space inside for dogs". Not a "How are you" or "Welcome" in sight. We were then told we could sit outside only - which we didn't want to do as it was an overcast day and there was smokers outside. When challenged as to why this was, she stated it's "because the food was uncovered" and "dogs cannot sit near food storage areas" which again, was not what was is advertised on their website (as everything is supposed to be covered and dogs are welcome in all areas). We immediately left and will will never return. Not sure how they get such a high rating as this has been the worst place in Wiltshire to visit.

So expensive and tiny potions! Won’t be going back unless it’s for a cup of tea. Really can’t understand how they can justify the price/portions. I was looking at a jacket potato but it was £11+ defo a shame as would be lovely if affordable.

3 and a half. Food and location I'd give 4 but the price was just too expensive. Ordered the full breakfast, however, toast is extra, beans is extra, black pudding is extra etc etc, by the time I had the breakfast I wanted it was about £17. By contrast the same in Chippenham was about £12. The other breakfast places in Calne are cheaper, but to be fair this is the premier location and the food and service was fine, just a bit too pricey for my liking.

Great place for coffee and or ice creams. Can’t comment on food as was only looking for coffee but was tempted by the ice creams and the outdoor ambiance overlooking a river.

Only been in Faye's a few times but the service is always superb and the breakfast is the best in Wiltshire. You will find cheaper elsewhere but you won't find better. The should consider a leaf tea rather than tea bags as an option.

We wanted a coffee and we chose the right place. Friendly and delicious really enjoyable place to chill. We had a Late and shared a sausage roll which were both really delicious. The sausage roll was piping hot and the pastry still crisp.

We have eaten at Fays on a few occasions recently and are delighted to have found this gem of a place. Friendly staff, good food, lots of choice and amazing value for money prices. Eating at lunchtime, as we have, has meant we have not needed to venture far from the all day breakfast menu because the scrambled eggs, smashed avocado with poached eggs and the best of the lot eggs Benedict, have all been excellent. The fish finger sandwich was a rare diversion and good too. Teas and coffees are plentiful as are the soft drinks. We will surely try the rest of the menu at some stage and I am sure we will be equally impressed. If you are driving through Calne (as most do) head instead to the bottom end of Sainsbury’s car park and it’s a short walk through for a rare treat.

We have been walking into Calne for some 9 months on a Sunday morning to buy the paper and found this great place. Started just having a coffee before our walk home (45 minutes) and finally succombed to their delicious breakfasts. Our favourites are Eggs benedict, smashed avocado and poached eggs and omelette with cheese and spinach. Never disappoints. The staff are excellent, friendly and efficient and very welcoming. Delicious Illy coffee served promptly. In the summer sitting outside is a joy and the iced coffee is amazing . We much look forward to our Sunday mornings, rain or shine. As yet we haven't tried their lunch menu but it looks delicious.

Called in on Saturday morning for coffee, extremely busy as Calne was having their Christmas light switch on. Coffee was lovely and actually the hottest I’ve had and bacon butty was also nice and hot. However, I am be wrong but I thought dogs were not allowed inside restaurants. Three dogs inside, one being fed bits of sausage another sitting on customers knee with head on the table! Hope they disinfected the table.

Wow. Had lunch with Mum here last week. Had read all the reviews and was not disappointed. I found the service really good and very friendly. The restaurant was full but our service did not suffer from it all. We had the Fish Sharing Platter which was actually enough for two as a light lunch. We took some sausage rolls home for our Tea. They are really big bad boys with the flakiest pastry I’ve ever known. Neither of us could finish them in one sitting. I shall definitely return one day.

On a cycle ride from Chippenham to Calne we came across this amazing restaurant and while chaining up our bikes the waitress met us outside and asked us if we wanted a table inside or outside. She also warned us that food would take 20 minutes to arrive, which was great to know before we made our choices. As soon as we sat down Jay came to take our drink orders and returned straight away with them, which was very welcome as we had been cycling and it was a very hot day! The menu had a huge choice. My husband had double cooked breakfast, my cousin had ham, egg and chips and I had the divine 'jackfruit wrap with sweet fried potatoes and a sprinkling of sea salt'. We each thought we had made the best choice! But mine definitely was the best lunch ever! It was so lovely. While we were waiting for the food to arrive we watched the children playing in the water below the restaurant balcony and although the restaurant was busy our lunch arrived in 20 minutes as we were told. Jay, Tash and Mel were rushed off their feet, but despite it being so busy, they were extremely friendly and welcoming and we will definitely go back. Thank you Jay, Mel and Tash for all your hard work in providing such an amazing lunch for us and making it such a special occasion

Was recommended this place by a friend, and on entering myself and another friend of mine thought 'hmm it's a bit too much like a cafe than a bistro' however we decided to stay and try it. And we were glad we did. We had a main course and a dessert and both were presented nicely and were delicious. I cannot recommend the Raspberry and Coconut slice enough, it was beyond gorgeous. The staff were friendly and very polite and knowledgeable. The cakes on show looked delicious so we asked if we could take some home in a bag, they gladly obliged.

My wife had an acceptable lasagna. I had cheese/potato/ fish pie. This was dry, had little cheese, not an abundance of fish and plenty of potato. My wife enjoyed her ice cream desert, and I enjoyed mine. The staff were good at their job and pleasant.

Fays is home from home cooking - they make an amazing breakfast, either a full English or an eggs Benedict. Their outside seating besides the river gives a lazy relaxed feel to eating. We love it and would recommend anyone in the area or just passing through Calne to stop and have a bite to eat.

Popped in for coffee on Sunday morning as Costa coffee machine was broken. Costa has lost a customer. We were welcomed well, comfy chairs and great coffee. Just worried it is so popular we will find it difficult to always get a coffee on a Sunday morning as we walk into Calne to buy our Sunday paper. Food looks great too so may have to try it!
