Nice Pun, nice food and nice people

A beautiful Sunday lunch, great carvery, vegetarian options greatly appreciated and enjoyed. Excellent hosts,the incredibly kind land lady asked if my dad was ok, just a genuine token. To be fair, we expected a more expantive menu choice, but totally understand the challenges since COVID in terms of running any sort of hospitality business.

This buzzy and very friendly pub was very busy for Sunday lunch including a large table of the team behind the village panto who were celebrating another success. On a Sunday there is a great value carvery with a choice of meats and a vegetarian option. Great value and great service . Booking recommended as can get very busy.

Last minute decision to eat out tonight. Lovely and warm with the burner keeping everyone snug. Full tables so lucky to get a free one. We both opted for steak and chips which came with peas, tomato, mushrooms and onion rings plus a large portion of chips. The steak was perfectly cooked and very tender and exceptional value. We will certainly have this again. Looking forward to another visit soon and try the fish and chips as this looked delicious when we saw if delivered to another table. Happy to recommend

This pub has it all with loads of history, character and of course great food and beer. Nigel and Lorraine are outstanding hosts!

Bizarre signing up to run a pub and then not bothering to open the hours advertised? The village community deserves better.

Had a lovely Sunday lunchtime carvery with the family. Very friendly and the food was great. Very quiet which is a great shame that such a lovely pub isn't better supported.

What a shame, this pub was so welcoming and inviting with the previous landlord. This time it was cold no atmosphere and as a previous review stated, felt as if it was closing down. I have used this pub for years when return home to see Mum. Will not be returning in a hurry.

It is frustrating that this village pub has great potential, but the complete apathy by the landlord ensures that customers are put off. It felt like the pub was in the process of closing down. No atmosphere, unwelcoming and we felt like we should apologise for actually wishing to spend money in the village. Surely Wadworth’s can do better than this.

We chose the George and Dragon for convenience. We were not disappointed, the accommodation was ideal, the food was ideal and the friendly atmosphere was extremely good.

Nigel and Lorraine hosted our Morris dancing team for the evening and we loved it. Great food, excellent selection of drinks and very generous hosts. Hopefully we can make the time to come back again!

3 of us had a superb Sunday roast. The carvery had freshly made vegetables with roast potatoes and parsnips freshly roasted . The choice was beef pork or Turkey,, and we all went for the pork which was excellent. The service was efficient and friendly. The land Lord serves the roast and then made a point of checking with us what we thought. Great to see during these difficult times such a friendly well run village pub offering excellent food, drink, atmosphere and service.

Terrible Sunday lunch. Meat was stewed, grey and inedible.

We went for Sunday Carvery which was not good at all. However, because this is my friend's local pub I did not leave a review. But now I have heard the disgusting behaviour my friend suffered at the hands of the Landlord/Chef I have decided that I will write the review. My friend was looking forward to trying Sunday lunch at her new local pub. We had a mixed meat roast. All the meat was paper thin and did not look appetising at all, the beef was grey. We gave all the meat to our dog. The veg, however, was OK. We then ordered cheese board to share as we were still hungry. It was a good selection of cheeses. I asked for butter. But the waitress brought a pot of margarine!! So we sent it back asking for butter. The waitress then came back with a message from the chef saying it was not margarine, but soft butter. We could not believe our ears!! I live in Brittany, which is the home of butter so I know what I am talking about and THAT WAS NOT BUTTER!! We both felt insulted that he had tried to fob us off like that. We eventually did get some butter but begrudgingly and with attitude. The landlord/chef clearly has an attitude problem towards customers. As confirmed by the awful way he spoke to my friend yesterday. He actually said that she was 'rude' to his wife regarding the margarine fiasco. She was NOT rude, merely complaing and justifiably so. But clearly this man is so arrogant that he refuses to accept complaints and even blames the customer instead!!

Pretty cool old pub, very old infact... Good food and well priced with a selection off beers/ spirits and hand pumped ales. Would happily go back for dinner and drinks.

Thought we'd try the pub for a meal as hadn't been for a while, tho we knew it had changed ownership. We shouldn't of bothered. Not sure how long they had been trading but it's not good. The pub was dirty and I don't mean just a bit of dust. Tables sticky, cobwebs in the window sill and the toilets need a dam good clean. I ordered the pie, mash and veg. The pie certainly wasn't home made and enough mash on my plate for 3 people, tho not bad for £11. I suppose they are trying their best. As much as I love dogs I don't think that it's appropriate to have the landlords dog wandering around when you are eating. Shame.

Was going to a local wedding and needed to put our dresses on , while in another village we was talking to a lady who said , go in the George and Dragon lovely people , they will let you , we ordered a couple of pots of tea for our husbands who sat in a lovely court yard , and the bar lady could not of been more helpful and said we could change in there ,

Saw that it had reopened under new management and thought we would give it a try. We were really pleased with the decision. Staff were really helpful and friendly. They took the time to talk to us. The food was excellent and substantial portions. We both had gammon,followed by cheesecake and bread and butter pudding. AMAZING. I didn't want anything else to eat all day. Special offer on Thursday, Friday and Saturday lunch,£14 for 2 meals and sweets were £3. Great value. We will definitely be doing this again.

The manager Tony Tequila is a lovely guy and his food is top drawer at reasonable prices the barmaid Hannah is very friendly an welcoming overall a very good experience thank you both..

Had a wonderful lunch here today, there was 3 of us and we were all blown away by the value and quality of the food. The lemon roulade was the best dessert I've ever had! Very nice and very attemptive staff, the building is beautiful, but could use a little tlc. It's a wonderful place though, we will definitely be back!

My family and I had an unfortunate experience at George & Dragon today. We were looking for a late lunch and called ahead to confirm that they'll be able to accommodate us if we arrived before 4. We got there around 3:45 and the hostess seated us and even got a high chair for my kid. However, no one took our order for some time and around 4, the chef informed us that he'll not be able to cook for us and suggested that we might have called another pub with the same name. To be fair, he did offer to cook us something simple but I didn't want to force the lad to cook for us on Sunday and left promptly. Ideally I'd have preferred to be refused service when we came in requesting a table rather than after being made to wait. I hope this was a one off incident and you'll do better in the future. On the plus side got a sandwich at the neraby Subway on the way home which was better than expected! PS: Adding a screenshot of my Google maps timeline to confirm that I was not at the wrong George & Dragon.

Great food, friendly atmosphere, warm and cosy . highly recommend.

We were visiting the village and booked a table for two for dinner not knowing anything about the pub. We were met by very friendly staff and given a table close to the woodburner and made to feel welcome and comfortable. We ordered the pork loin and a burger which were both ample and very tasty. The locals were also friendly and cheerful and we enjoyed our visit and returned to our Airbnb cottage happy and replete.

The food was beautiful, scallops and terrine starters with lobster and steak & tiger prawn main courses. The service really couldn't have been faulted. Breakfast was lovely and relaxed and the hospitality was brilliant.

Although we arrived late for lunch the lovely staff still accommodated us with a lovely meal. Very welcoming. They even opened up the beer garden so our dog could come aswell.

Had a great evening here for a Quiz Night with a group.of friends. The landlady was brilliant - very entertaining but also efficient. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. Some of us ate. The food was good, pub food, reasonably priced. Definitely be back.

We’ve been eating regularly in the George and Dragon in the last few weeks. You’ll find outstanding food and service if you visit. Perfect pints of Guinness too. Plus nice wines. Can’t speak highly enough of this lovely pub.

Great pub, real asset to the village

It is great to see this superbly run village pub thriving in these difficult times. We had an excellent dinner of a Burger and Chilli con carne, both of great quality. The service in this family run pub is both friendly and efficient. The pub has parking a sloping large garden and a court yard....oh and the beer is very good!

Lovely local pub with all the facilities. Really lovely land lady with fantastic service. Cant wait to do the walk and Sunday lunch.

Lovely clean pub, landlady was brilliant and chatty.

My colleagues and I regularly get roast lunch from the George & Dragon and it's soooo good. Very accommodating and good portions. I have a small veggie roast which has everything, in replacement for the meat there is a portion of cauliflower cheese. I would thoroughly recommend this place for a roast. We wouldn't return if it wasn't any good 😋. The meat is usually pork, beef or lamb (not chicken).

Went to the pub today and had some lovely food for lunch. They have really made the effort to adhere to social distancing guidelines and felt very safe. We had a lovely time and food was delicious. Would 100% recommend !

The welcome on a Saturday morning for a pre wedding gathering was spot on. The coffee, beer and welcome were all good and in a very good setting too. Only problem is that I don't live in Potterne.

Great Local Village pub, well kept Ale (can't comment on the lager as I don't drink it) Menu is good and reasonably priced. Often Pop in when walking nearby. Nice beer garden at the back, in winter the fire is always lit too. Making this a very cosy village pub.
