The best restaurants in Appledore Torridge South West

We chose to have lunch here the staff were pleasant and friendly. The food was delicious and well presented although a tad expensive for the portion size. Coffee was really nice.

Visited with family over Easter and loved it. The food, restaurant and location were great! We were also served by a lady (forgot her name) who said she was a joint owner, who was great, very friendly and helpful! Really great here, highly recommended! Also, try the pear and blue cheese pizza with some spicy pepperoni and sausage on top, amazing!

Lovely little place, loads of menu choices including vegan and gluten free and happy to switch things out on the set menus, super friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Really cute hiddden gem of a back garden perfect on a dry day!

A fantastic experience. Friendly and helpful staff, particularly the chap who was presumably the owner. He helped create a great atmosphere. The food was fantastic too, as was the wine!

We booked a last-minute dinner at the Royal George for 12 people (with just a couple of hours’ notice!) and were absolutely blown away by the experience. We’re on holiday in Appledore and this evening was easily a highlight of our trip. The team couldn’t have been more accommodating – they gave us a private room, which made it feel extra special. Service was exceptional from the moment we arrived. We were never left waiting for anything – drinks flowed, food came out promptly, and the staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely warm. The food? Incredible. The burgers were terrific, the steaks were melt-in-the-mouth tender, the mussels were fresh and full of flavour, and the fish curry was perfectly spiced and absolutely beautiful. They even went above and beyond by sending us home with a takeaway portion of the chef’s crumble of the day for a family member who couldn’t make it. Such a thoughtful touch. And yes, our dog Barney was welcomed too – which made the whole evening feel even more inclusive and relaxed. We left full, happy, and very grateful. The Royal George is an absolute gem. Highly recommend!

Such a fabulous cafe! We walked to Appledore while on holiday in Westward Ho! We were recommended it by another walking on the harbour and it didn't disappoint! Quick and friendly service, lovely atmosphere and wonderful food! The menu was quite small, but it was a nice selection. We all ate the open toasted sandwiches which I thought were on the expensive side, but they were delicious.

Great live music drinking pub. They don't offer food but allow you to bring in takeaways which is decent.

We were staying in Bideford and a local suggested Appledore for fish and chips. So glad we made the short trip. Best I have had for a long time. Crispy fish, light batter, good size and the chips were the best I have had from a chippy for a while. Glad I don't live nearby, would be a very regular customer.

A large portion of chips should stretch further than what they do at the minute, i should be able to feed a couple of adults and feel full, i could have finished it myself! same with the pots of gravy/ curry. I'll be visiting the competition around the corner next time we want a chippy. Shame, as they are nice.

Waited 40 minutes for food. It wasn't terrible but had asked for lots of vinegar and there wasn't a drop (nothing) so was all a bit dry.

Ate dinner here whilst staying in the area. Food and drink were very good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The pub and restaurant were both very busy so service was a little slow, but staff took the trouble to apologise about this and to keep us up to date with our order's progress.

8 family plus 1 baby and 2 friends. Ordering was fine. Food was tasty and arrived quickly. The staff were polite, efficient and friendly. Table, cutlery and plates were clean. Toilet was clean and well equipped.

This establishment have been very hospitable, have always let you order fish and chips from across the lane and consume in the bar plus the greyhounds were allowed in (6) even on the furniture. During our four night camping at seabreeze we used the Royal each night.

Fantastic setting, beautiful sunny day with a gem of a pub. Landlord excellent, very welcoming, staff very friendly, roast pipping hot & lots of it for a very reasonable price.
