Delicious cod and chips, no complaints whatsoever. Friendly guy running the place, had a little wait for food to be ready but it was good to see it's clearly popular so didn't mind at all.

The chip was not cook I will not be back there

The best chips we have had for a long time, crispy outside and fluffy potato inside. The cod and scampi were great too. Food freshly cooked for us. We will certainly go back if visiting the area again.

Fish was fine but surely I'm not expecting too much when you go to a chip shop and want proper "chippy chips" I could see under the cookers laid on the floor were multiple bags of mc cain home fries! I can get them myself from a shop and deep fry them then has the audacity to charge 3 quid a portion

Went in half hour after opening very quiet! Fish had obviously been cooked before. The batter was thick and chewy and the fish had shrivelled back inside and was like leather. Don’t go early!!!

Chips old and chewy, fish batter bit chewy, curry weird... the whole lot was just horrible really and it wasn't even 6.30pm.

Just got fish and chips from here and was extremely underwhelmed the chips were JUST about cooked and all pale - have been here a few times before and chips have always been lovely and crispy but was disappointed this time.

A complete joke of a fish and chip shop. Lazy, slow, indifferent service, the like of which I have never seen in a take away environment. People left standing outside in their droves in the rain to queue to order, and even longer to get served. How long can fish and chips take? A truly dreadful experience, which for me will never be repeated.

Best chippy in the area and the boss is a good laugh to chat to as well. New member of staff is brilliant, she is kind and friendly and very easy to talk too

The service was quick and friendly. I ordered haddock, which was cooked to order. The fish was absolutely running with oil and the batter was a weird grey colour. We won't be back!

I was thrilled they could prepare gluten friendly fish and chips for me. They were delicious.

Terrible chips, pretty sure they were frozen oven chips. Only saved by finding some sauce in the car, in all honesty it was the sauce I enjoyed.

Always a pleasant experience here. Friendly staff. Can also get gluten free option on your fishnchips too every day that they're open.

Waited to have fish and chips for our last night. It was a disappointment, the chips was frozen chips like the ones you get from supermarket. Cod was OK but soggy batter. Its ashame cos we came 2 years ago and they was lovely

Looking forward to a chip roll I hit this chippie today and made my order, I was advised that chip rolls were not on the menu however a portion of chips and a side ordered roll was the workaround, finding a spot to sit down I opened the little bag my roll came in only to be confronted by a burger bun which may not sound that bad but anyone who knows anything about chip rolls will tell you how unacceptable this is, to make matters worse it wasn’t even buttered and in a vein attempt to rescue the situation I had to use a sachet of mayo as a substitute 😕

Fantastic little gem in a lovely little village - the reports saying that it’s rubbish are unbelievable - we visited last night and found the whole atmosphere lovely - we queued out side this little tiny shop taking in the sea air and listening to the seagulls - only 1 person in the shop at s time but we found the service and speed really acceptable for such a busy little take out and the food was beautiful - well done for making fish and chips by the sea the experience it should be loved it - well worth a visit

Busy but worth the wait great food.

One person allowed into the shop at a time to order and pay for the order?,to be made to wait on the street for the order?.So you wait maybe 20 mins to order and a further 20 mins half HR to be called into the shop and then wait til they serve it to you,and this is a take away?.The idea of a take away surely is quickness and quality service and product so you return?.That isn,t happening

Fish and sausage were brilliant, felt the chips were a little crispy but all cooked fresh. Service was friendly and good banter. Atmosphere is difficult to say as only 1 customer is allowed in at a time so would be frustrating if waiting outside in the rain. Great value though

Good fish and chips .But its let down by the young girl that works behind the counter. IF SHE SMILED SHE WOULD CRACK HER FACE....she must be the the most miserable person ive ever come across that works in the catering industry.

The staff were very nice and accommodating. Considering we turned up 15mims before closing and there was a long queue already there before us. They reaussured us that they will stay until we are all served and cooked fresh fish in front of us. They were very lovely to our special needs young person, treating him kindly and very helpfully and cheerfully. Mum says some of the chips were overcooked and crispy, hence the 4 stars and the price was a bit much for that, but I like crispy chips!

The best Battered Cod & Amazing Chips! (probably, in the whole world)....

I was last here in 2018 and at that time I considered it to be serving the best fish I’d ever eaten. Couldn’t wait to return and finally did so on Saturday the 4th of June. What a shock I got. I asked for haddock and chips. The girl serving warned me the haddock was frozen but the cod was fresh. I went for cod instead. She should’ve also warned me that the chips were also frozen and no longer hand cut. £9.30 for cod and McCain chips. I took them to a bus shelter to eat as it was raining and the Champ was closed. As expected the frozen chips were big and chunky with no texture apart from a crusty shell and mashed potato style inside. Just like Wetherspoon! I’ve never had bought in chips from a chippy before and hope I never will again. The fish was overcooked and chewy. The batter was crispy, light and tasty. The best thing about the meal. Sylvester’s have totally lost the will to live and now lack the pride in their product I witnessed 4 years ago. What a terrible experience. I will never return.

Bought cod & chips to eat on the seafront. The chips were great. Nice crispy texture. The fish was the best I've had in a long time! Batter and cod very light. A must when in Appledore!

Staying in Appledore in the motorhome tonight, just had cod & chips, omg the best I've ever had, fish batter nice and crispy, the chips nice and crisp and the potatoe airy10/10

Was fantastic food! Due to covid customer limits I waited outside whilst my partner ordered but despite the cold dark and damp weather, the food certainly warmed us up. Would recommend for a great chippy stop.

We always go to this chippy when we are in this area and never had course for complaint. We went last night and the quality of the food was poor the batter was chewy the chips were powdery and the peas were dry. The curry sauce was lovely we hope this is a one off.

Absolutely delicious Cod and chips. Cooked to order, Crispy chips with soft potato centers (sounds simple but rarely perfected) and large flakes of fresh cod in batter. How seaside fish & chips should taste. Highly recommended

Just had the most amazing cod and chips here today! Recommended by a friend. Delicious. Wonderful white fresh cod (caught daily) in beautiful crispy batter and freshly cooked chips to die for. Soft in the middle with a golden crisp outside. Huge portions. You won't go hungry!

We waited in a long line for the freshest cod fish and chips, oh boy, the food is worth the wait, the very best fish and chips, perfectly battered, cod is super fresh and huge(did I say huge), the curry sauce is so tasty, I also tried sausage, it was soooo good. My advice is to pick up your order, in summer months maybe by 5:30pm there will not be a line, then sit next to the harbor, then just enjoy, you will not regret!

The one thing we love is good, honest, down-to-earth food and whenever we visit Appledore, or the surrounding area, again the number one choice for food will be Sylvester's Fish and Chips. The prices are very reasonable and clearly displayed, the staff are very jolly and the food itself was "exceptionally" good. There are plenty of places that serve good food but this was above and beyond so therefore we had to give this review. We can't wait to return and anyone looking for genuine, proper food won't be disappointed in this takeaway perfectly located near the main car park in Appledore.
