The Appledore Inn in Torridge

Popped in at 4.30pm on a Tuesday and it was buzzing. Mainly locals, which is always a good sign; all friendly, especially our dog, who received lots of attention. The staff were friendly, and the beer was kept well, with four choices. It's not more than 5 minutes from the local Wetherspoons, so it's great to see people there. It has a real community feel to the place, definitely going back.

We love our local pub! It's our go to place to meet our mates and hang out for a few hours. We always get a very very warm welcome and a great selection of drinks. Highly recommend

Best beer, best company, best welcome, best crew, best price, Matt and Lou, could not run a better house, oh and it's dog friendly.

Visited again whilst on a trip to Bideford. Great real beers - kept really well, by a team that knows its stuff. The Landlord brought me a replacement beer to my table as the first wasn't to his standard. Good selection of beers, all four changed during our week. Liked the samples kept by each pump in a sealed mini "Kilner" pot so you can get an idea of the colour. Not seen that before and really good idea. Looking forwards to another trip. Dog friendly - I think my hound though she was the pub dog after a couple of days!

I try to go out once a month with a couple of mates just for 3-4 pints and a short if we're feeling rebellious and this has become my first choice. The pub is always clean, the toilets don't stink, the "locals" are nice and chatty, the staff are friendly and have a great rapport with everyone that comes in. Guinness always tastes great, some days the head is better than others (still talking about the Guinness), and whilst the prices a touch higher than most places in town it is worth every penny to keep the pub and clientele at a higher standard.

Traditional pub, well kept beer, friendly owners. Ours was just a short stop but we would highly recommend this establishment and hope to come back ourselves one day. They are clearly making an effort and deserve to be the best pub in Bideford. Thanks for your hospitality and good luck.

This is the best pub in Bideford Matt the owner and his wife are so welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere is so chilled and the locals are very kind and nice. I would recommend a visit if from out of town as other pubs in area are bit unsettling. Prices are reasonable and it's clean and well maintained, they don't do food to my knowledge only bar snacks it's a proper boozer :). A big thanks to the staff and locals you made our visits and holiday a worthy experience and will be back anytime we are in Devon

Nice, friendly local pub with sell kept local cask ales. Gets a bit loud and crowded round the bar despite lots of seating. Quieter over in the lounge area to the left of the bar. My favourite pub in Bideford.

We stopped here whilst some of our party went shopping. The vibe was friendly - albeit a bit odd as everyone was absorbed by a random rugby match (it wasn't even the six nations!). Drinks were affordable with a good range of ciders I haven't tried.

Great little Inn, we were on holiday in the area, visited Appledore for the day and called in here to sample the local beverages. Good variety if local beers and cider on offer, warm welcoming atmosphere, great service from friendly bar staff. Can't comment on tge food unfortunately as we had other plans. But great little place, we'll worth a visit.

Clean & well presented interior to this traditional pub. Friendly staff & punters. 4 real ales on hand pumps, all in good condition. Reasonable prices. Will definitely visit again.

A very friendly place to watch the rugby final. We enjoyed the pasties at half time. All in all a memorable night for us Kiwi visitors.

What a great pub, we only found it half way through our stay in Bideford but made sure we went back before leaving, dog friendly good local Cider great atmosphere just what a pub should be.

The other reviews are true. You get a very warm welcome in this great pub. A friendly landlord chatting with newcomers is a rarity nowadays. The beer is excellent and not as expensive as more touristy pubs.. Bright and airy. Recommended

Popped in for a few beers to watch the rugby on a Saturday afternoon. Staff were really friendly. Atmosphere was good with locals and tourists alike. Would return if was in the area again.

Went in to have a pint with friends, was told that we could go in but turned away and told it was invite only. Personal feel like it’s a waste of time, would have thought they would want local business.

Discovered this lovely pub off the beaten track - heaps of character with the loveliest husband & wife owners (apparantly their new owners & to the pub game to boot!) You'd think they've been running it for ages the way they greet their regulars. Will defiantly make it a pit stop on our next west country visit! NO food but have been told they will do a light bar menu in the future. Cozy atmosphere with a pretty courtyard garden and dog-friendly.

I've ordered the green curry, the red curry, the panang curry, the pad thai, and most of their appetizers.The appetizers were rather mediocure, and I can't really recommend any of them. Now that I got that out of the way, I must say how impressed I am with all of their main dishes. The curry is always thick and flavorful, with reasonable amounts of quality meat and vegtables. Everything was cooked as it should be, no tough meat or mushy veggies. The noodles were tasty as well. I can't say that this is the most authentic Thai food I've ever had, and I'm not sure what the standard is around here, but I would say that the've done an excellent job creating fresh and tasty curry from available ingrediants. Even compared to a saturated and diverse city like Chicago, this tiny place in this quiet little town beats out the "Thai" food commonly served at many pan-Asian restaurants one might find in a metropolitan area.

Popped in fir a couple of drinks whilst walking the SW Coast Path. Really friendly welcome, dog friendly and even had the Exeter Chiefs Rugby on.

We read the reviews on trip advisor and were really looking forward to an authentic Thai meal on the last night of our holiday. The bar was cosy with a log burner and the lovely barman was charming & friendly. Our chicken satay starter was lovely with great Thai flavours and we were excited for our main course. My green curry arrived with no colour and sadly had no taste; was like warmed coconut milk with overcooked chicken in it (I had questioned on ordering how hot 2 chillis denoted and was advised they could make it milder but had asked for some spice). Our pad Thai was burnt in places and had the fish sauce flavour with no sweetness or heat. My partner had a panang curry which was also very disappointing. On quality checking of the food we expressed disappointment and a small dish of fish sauce and soy sauce was brought out to alter the flavours. We were given £4.40 off our drinks but charged £32.00 for a meal that we could not eat. We have never left a restaurant without eating our meal before and eat Thai food very regularly, do not eat here if you like Thai flavours.

Basic local, clean, comfortable, good stock of real ales on tap, well kept cellar, didn't have food this time but the kitchen makes gorgeous Thai fayre. Prices are good. Pleasant watering hole. Happy New Year.

Nice quiet pub, want to try food next time

My wife and I really enjoy Thai cuisine and over the years have walked past the Appledore Inn on numerous occasions and never noticed that they served Thai food. Popped in today as a lunchtime treat and we were not disappointed. The Appledore is a proper pub with the dining area at one end of the bar, but don't let that put you off. It has a good selection of beers on tap in a light and airy room. The food was tasty and plentiful and very reasonably priced. Will definitely be going there again .

Came to this pub with my partner while on holiday in Devon. Is such a hidden gem and has heaps of character. The owners are extremely friendly and the food was delicious and packed with flavour. Hope to return on our second visit to Devon.
