Highly recommend a visit! We were looking for a place to have breakfast but also fancied a cream tea and this place had exactly what we needed! We had the ferryman’s cream tea which is perfect if you want that mix of savoury and then sweet. The bread used for the sandwiches was so fresh and soft. We also decided to have one of them with a savoury scone and one with a sweet scone so we could try both and they were both lovely. The scones were perfect and not too crumbly as they can be in other places. The staff are very welcoming and attentive. Bonus points for being dog friendly

We needed to go somewhere so the opening time of 10 am was inconvenient. People having to leave holiday accommodation before 10 would probably appreciate an earlier opening time. Maybe this happens in the summer season. Therefore when it opened there was a rush and the staff were momentarily overwhelmed. However, they quickly got their act together. The breakfast was delicious and served in a timely manner . Good surroundings and some nice crafts and jar food to buy.

We actually visited the Market Street Kitchen twice whilst staying locally. Once for coffee / tea and cake and once for breakfast. On both occasions, we thoroughly enjoyed the food. The cake was a generous serving and was soo moist and moreish that I could so easily have had another slice. The Full English breakfast was delicious, and I believe all the ingredients were locally sourced, which I am a firm supporter of. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and there is plenty of seating both indoors, or outside in their beautiful garden. This venue is dog friendly, and there are water bowls available for your dog to sup from at his/her leisure. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed both of our visits here, and would definitely recommend you to visit if you are in Appledore.

Lovely little place, very quaint! Food was very generous portions, but importantly also very good quality, both fresh, and tasty. Price very, very reasonable. Coffee was first-rate too. Service was a little slow initially, but it's a small cafe with only a few staff, and they made up for it with friendly and fast service thereafter. Very much recommended, a great example of a well run local little cafe.

We went as a treat because they advertise “gluten free”scones, cream teas etc…. However I’ve never been so underwhelmed, the gluten free fruit scone was at least a 1/3 of the size of my daughters standard scone and was the same price! Why can’t places advertising GF home made cakes, scones, food etc…. offer the same quality and size as normal products. Very disappointing.

Great little spot. Loved the exposed brickwork and beams, fantastic way to see the inside of one of the traditional cottages. We’ve been here before and will go again. This time we had a lovely delicious breakfast, the menu had a few sizes and different options. A table near us had a toasted tea cake which looked goooood. I took the option to add hash browns and switch fried to scrambled eggs, me and my wife loved it. All elements were yummy!

A tale of two halves…the cakes snd scones were superb, absolutely superb, the drinks were also very good with very good quality coffee. The other side of the coin was what I would describe as aloof service, far from rude just not particularly friendly or welcoming. We just didn’t feel particularly valued as customers. However it is clear if you are local or regular a more favourable welcome awaits as we evidenced. Did this detract? no not a lot to be honest but for our visit to have been the 5 the food absolutely deserved we would expect more welcoming staff.

This is a wonderful find, tucked away in a side street; we never visit Appledore without a leisurely hour or so at this lovely place. The food is amazing, the crab sandwich is to die for and is big enough to be described as a main course meal! All the other menu items are delicious, so fresh and beautifully presented. On a dry day, the sheltered, terraced rear garden is a tranquil haven with quirky, characterful decoration and plants. The staff are really friendly and helpful; nothing is too much trouble. Very dog friendly, there's even a 'puppuccino' whipped cream treat on the menu! Our only complaint is that we don't live near enough to visit more often. We'll be back next time, hopefully soon.

Absolutely delish!! Great little find on the back street, serving a variety of lunchtime meals, cakes & drinks. We had a very tasty tuna mayo, onion, and cheese toastie with salad, crisps, and homemade slaw. We were eyeing up the cakes for pudding as they looked great however the portion size was great so we were full up! It's definitely worth a visit if you are peckish at lunch time, very busy around 1230, so be prepared to wait for a table.

Waited a while to be seated. Waited even longer to have our order taken. Waited along time for our order to come out which came out in stages. Hot drinks first, nearly finished them by the time 2 milkshakes arrived and the milkshakes had nearly been finished by the time our scones arrived. One fruit scone cold the other fruit scone to hot to touch! Asked if we could have a cold one as we didn't asked for them to be warmed and it was for a child. They brought a cold one out and said it depends on what they are up to in the kitchen 🤷♀️ busy time of day and the cafe was full but the service was slow and unorganised. Other customers saying the same and also walking out. Food looked good, decent coffee, milkshake presentation nice. Just shame about the disjointed service.

Really lovely place with excellent customer service. Yummy food - all 7 of us VERY happy with our different meals. Reasonably priced too. Happy to help and accommodate. We’ll be back next time we visit Bideford! Thank you.

I popped in to the Secret Garden Cafe hoping to have a light lunch with my daughter for a special treat - we had been given a £15 voucher to spend and had been really looking forward to our visit. However, it was not the lovely lunch we were hoping for… When we went in, there was a bit of a wait for a table. One of the waiting staff popped out into the garden to see if a table was free there. The older man in the kitchen spoke very rudely to him saying a rather aggressive manner, “you should know if there’s a table free if you could only do your job properly!” The poor guy (who was probably only late teens) looked really upset. While we were waiting for a table, I chatted to another staff member and showed her my gift voucher saying we were excited to finally be able to use it as we had been given it for Christmas. The man in the kitchen then demanded to have a look at it. He said that we couldn’t possibly use the voucher as he only provides laminated vouchers and ours was just on a piece of paper. He implied that we had printed it off ourselves! He then questioned me (in a very abrupt and abrasive manner) for about 5 minutes via the female staff member, wanting to know where I had got the voucher and kept repeating that he only ever gives out laminated ones. I wasn’t really sure what to say! He then asked the female staff member to write down a note about the voucher in their book and take my name and phone number! He said I couldn’t use the voucher until “it had been investigated.” I felt like a criminal! It was also very embarrassing and uncomfortable as everyone in the cafe was staring at my daughter and I! I was then given a menu and told that someone would be over to take our order. I said no thank you, and we walked hastily out. I won’t be back. My auntie (who gifted me the voucher) has been conned out of her £15 so if you are considering buying vouchers from here as a gift, I would say don’t bother, as you won’t be able to use them!

What a lovely coffee shop. Friendly staff, excellent taste in music (Taylor Swift). Clean and bright cafe. Hope small businesses like this come through the energy crisis, would be a shame to lose this type of establishment.

Lovely beachside cafe, great place for a good breakfast. Other than breakfast it's the usual 'something and chips' unimaginative menu. Clean and tidy, toilets across the road, disabled friendly and dogs welcome. What seriously needs attention is the staff, very slow at clearing and more interested in each other than the customers. I asked for black coffee with separate cold milk, which needed much explaining, then got black coffee with separate HOT milk. I had paid up and left and my table had still not been cleared. It's an OK spot but with a bit of effort could be the talk of the town
