Excellent fish and chips. Plus, a pint in the pub across the lane while you wait for your order. Pub belongs to the same people. Eat food in the bar. All decorated for Halloween.

Really impressed with this chippy. Friendly service, extremely fairly priced, great quality food and able to eat at the pub opposite with proper cutlery and extra salt & vinegar. Recommend if in the area.

Great system. You can eat or wait in shop or pub over the road or in our case at our holiday cottage. The fish and chips were good with crispy batter and tasty chips. Portion size was good too. Excellent for end of busy day sightseeing.

We had fish, chips, pies and sausages, all were lovely. Would definitely recommend.

The best chips I've ever had. Really crispy and not greasy, piping hot with salt and vinegar all the way through. We could have sat in the shop's table area, in the pub opposite or under canvas on the outside tables ( which is what we did) . A really good selection for seating. Also there are shelters along the beach promenade where we also could have sat. The service is simple with a bleeper to let you know when the chips are ready. The young man serving was friendly and pleasant. I'd recommend this chippy to everyone

My friend and I had lunch here today, and have to say that it was delicious, chips are fried in beef dripping, crunchy on the outside, and and soft in the middle. The fish was definitely fresh, and cooked to perfection, will definitely be going here again.

Really disappointed with our fish and chips, got the order wrong so we had to share a chips. Fish was rubbery and greasy and the chips were hard like they had been peeled a few days ago. Barely any salt and vinegar so no flavour. This used to be our favourite fish and chips shop but will boycott after that experience really disappointing

Lovely, fish and chips. My Little boy loves the fishcakes, he ate two of them. The curry sauce is top notch. I would highly recommend. Their prices may have gone up slightly but it's still cheaper than any other takeaway locally. Well done the Royal Plaice team.

The royal plaice has frozen plaice. Chips overly salted and cod rubbery and the batter was too floury. Most of the meal was binned.

Very disappointing, fish wasn't fresh x very greasy x I could not believe they charged for salt x vinegar!! What a shame as we really like to support local businesses but feel adding this extra charge is really not on. Unfortunately it has put us off returning again.

Missed out someone’s meal. Tried to call and no answer. The food was nothing special and on the expensive side. Soaked the chips in salt. I would definitely go somewhere else in the local area! Had much better elsewhere in the area.

Tried the Royal Plaice for the first time since it has changed ownership. Gone from being the best fish and chips in Devon to mediocre. To be fair the fish was ok but the chips really greasy and covered in salt. Do yourself a favour and go to slyvesters instead

Fish was OK, but the chips were the worst EVER. White and puffed-up with a strange taste. We decided they'd probably been left in an old bucket of water for days. Pub carpet stinks. Horrible cheap wine. All in all, a revolting meal.

Amazing Haddock and Chips. Great fresh fish and a light, tempura style batter. Fantastic. Honestly the best I can remember.

Wow! Best fish and chips I've ever had (and I've had a lot 😀). Beautifully crispy/ not greasy. The large cod was massive. 2 minutes walk and sat overlooking the estuary in the sunshine..perfect!

Disappointed! We had plaice & chips, one of the fish portions was grey. Chips were crisp but smelt as if the oil needed changing

Not great across the board to be honest. The fish was dry and rubbery and the batter had lost its crunch. The chips were fine but nothing to write home about. My sister had a battered sausage which was pretty old and cold as well. Nobody in my group got sick so it meets those standards, but I wouldn't go here unless you haven't got any other options.

Definitely the best cod and chips that we have for a long time. Able to eat in the adjacent pub with a great real ale. Will be coming at least twice to the Royal Plaice next year when we visit again. Very good value. Thoroughly recommend.

The fish and chips to be highly recommended, the menu is varied and reasonable price's. You can sit in the pub opposite and have a drink with your meal. They supply cutlery and condiments.

As it’s tucked around the pub of the main road you don’t expect too much. But some of the nicest fish and chips I’ve had

We enjoyed our fish and chips here - we had the cod special meal deal - excellent value for money and large portions. Josh, who was working on his own, did a great job. As other reviewers have said, you can wait for your order in the pub opposite until you are called to collect your order with a pager and then enjoy it there with a drink. Highly recommend.

Definitely the best fish and chips we have ever had, everything was perfect and you could tell they had been cooked in dripping. Also a bonus that you can have your fish and chips with a pint at the pub opposite.

Came here on 20 th April evening, what a disappointment, spent £52, cod, plaice, large chips which turned out to be small, child fish chips, 2 portions of chips chicken strips, and burgers the burgers were greasy with no salard or sauce , looked half cooked the fish we had was grey in side big disappointment and waste of money if this down by the sea, where you would think be quality fish well I think I’d sooner go without ,

Visited this takeaway , absolutely gorgeous food. Cooked to order. You can then wait at the pub opposite,have a drink then you are contacted by the little alarm you are given.

Absolutely superb fish and chips. I visited here after a 10 mile run on the Tarka trail so I thought I could easily smash a large cod and chips. How wrong I was, two massive pieces of fish completely wedged in the box by chips and everything was gorgeous. Wifey said the scampi and fish box was incredible too; we even saved some for tea 😀. Not cheap bit worth it, so don't hesitate to visit👍

Been a fairly regular to the Royal Plaice for fish & chips as on our regular walking route. Deeply disappointed by the size of the fish for the cost, certainly not worth the money imo.

Had takeaway fish & chips from The Royal Plaice and they were extremely good. Had to wait quite a while as there was just one person working, but the give you a buzzer that pings when your order is ready, so you can get a drink in the pub opposite while you wait.

Not as good as usual - got a regular fish and chips but they give me a tiny one, smaller than the usual cod special I get although I paid more. The fish looked like it was for a child and the whole thing was soggy. Bit disappointing.

We have used this chippy everv week for years. We always got good value, and great fish & chips. Recently the prices have gone up. which is fair enough. However the size of the fish & the portion of chips have been reduced drastically. Just no longer value. We will use the other chippy from now on.

This in my opinion is the best Fish and Chips in Appledore, Devon. The place is very clean, service is quick and staff are extremely friendly. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for great food. Generous sized portions.

This is our local chippy, the best fish and chips in North Devon, the portion size was not as big but filled an empty stomach, nearly always have to wait in a long queue but this can't be helped.

Delightful fish and chips, the curry sauce is top notch. My little one really enjoys the fishcakes. Even better you can eat your fish and chips opposite in the pub with a nice pint.

We tried the curries tonight for the first time. Both the chicken and vegan options were delicious. The curries come with rice and a variety of accompaniments. Good value and lovely to have a vegan choice! We will return.

Been coming to this chip shop every year we visit appledore, this time I’m sure it’s changed hands or staff, had a fairly big order of £47 waited and waited and waited, wasn’t really busy at the time we visited , sat in on the other side as didn’t want a drink in pub , when the order was done , got it back to Westwood ho , missing fish and chips, the chicken nuggets over cooked and the chicken burgers sat under a heater with salted on all wilted looked a mess, back to appledore and told them , as there phone they don’t answer, he looked at me , and checked the order on till oh yea you should of checked , ?? Me, !!! He done another , I told him about the nuggets and burgers why did you put them salad under a heater till test cooking?? Laughed , the other chap with blond hair sniggering , well as long as you don’t mind waiting over a half hour and these greasy servers laugh when orders are wrong then use it , very greasy place , not even a apology,,

The pub is connected to the fish & chip shop, so you order food over the street, and they bring to you at the pub when ready

What a complete joke this place is. 30 minutes queuing just to place an order and then another 30 minutes waiting for it to be brought out. It was almost as if they were cooking the chips one by one. It's a shame because the chips were nice but i won't be going there again.

These are the best chips we have ever eaten! I grew up in London allegedly with an award winning chippie but the chips here are hands down the tastiest I've ever had. I never leave reviews and often dislike chips. But these! The woeld needs to know - The Tina Turner of chips - simply the best! So delicious!

Visited on Friday 18th November 2022 bought take away Fish & Chips. There was a dedicated window next to the restaurant to order take-out food and a receipt number to collect given the high volume of customers. The meal was delivered very quickly but was still of good quality.

Have had fish and chips from here a few times now and they've always been very good. I just wish the staff were a bit more cheerful!

Wow what a fish & chip shop this place is, coming from Middlesbrough & visiting Whitby on several occasions for the best fish & chips around wanted something similar, this place absolutely smashed any fish and chips iv had anywhere in the country . Plus the price I couldn’t believe it . Small fish & chips £5 . It’s never heard of thees days . Plus you can eat in the pub across the road which is a great little pub and very good priced with a very pleasant barmaid. We’l definitely be visiting this place again .

We always have the fish , chips and curry sauce here when we visit Appledore, it truly is the best, so delicious and would highly recommend a visit. You can even eat them at the pub opposite with a lovely cold pint!

Freshly cooked to fish was fantastic, used the wait time to find a table, grab cutlery & beers from the pub they also own. Portions were enormous (we ordered large) & the beer was ace!

Giant portions and fantastic fish, the chips were crunchy and fresh (and not too oily) and it is lovely to sit on the benches at the pub across the street and order drinks from there!
