Have visited the area over a few years, but had never ventured into this pub! Can't believe we missed out on this little gem! Stopped by on two occasions for lunch, and found a table easy. Nice little place, lots of tables available and very friendly bar staff. Toilets were clean, and the food was well presented and cooked really nice - piping hot and fresh. Really enjoyed it here and would definitely visit again if in the area.

Just returned home after a long weekend break at The Old Rydon Inn. The accommodation was first class and having our own dinning room was amazing. I can not fault ANY part of our stay. From the moment when we first arrived and were shown our apartment, to when we departed, the staff were welcoming and attentive. The food was amazing, and having the luxury of it being served at our own dinning table, was fabulous. I can not recommend this establishment too highly to anyone looking to stay in the area.

I went because I wanted fish, thinking it would be fresh in this location. I had the fish stew but it was very light on the fish for £20. There were a few mussels in shells on the top but the rest looked liked frozen supermarket quality. We were sat right at the bottom of the stairs so you don’t get a moments peace with people up and down. And the toilets are vile!

We decided to visit for breakfast before a dog walk on Dartmoor - selected on the basis of reviews and reputation. It was clearly busy as most tables were reserved. I know it’s a farm … but it was cold. I had a small breakfast and my wife selected scrambled eggs on toast. My reading of the menu led me to conclude that a small breakfast was a small number of items … much like other places. But I was wrong - it was the smallest piece of bacon you could find, the egg was similarly small - the size that comes in a catering size box from a catering supplier. Scrambled egg was equally disappointing, it had some square edges, I guess microwaved and cut up with a knife.

We visited for afternoon tea on Mothers Day, so unsurprisingly things were busy and the atmosphere slightly hectic. The food ranged from great (scones) to ok (sandwiches and little cakes). It was good value and whilst we'd definitely revisit to eat off the normal menu (the other food and cakes being eaten around us looked delicious), it probably isn't the best location for any sort of special occasion as the setting and ambience doesn't really suit.

Had a great Easter Sunday pub was packed kids really enjoyed the disco and Easter hunt. We were a table of 8 all the food was bang on and staff very friendly went out their way to make us feel welcome and were great with the kids could tell there was a lot of effort put in. 100% recommend definitely a new favourite place will be back!! ❤️

Had 2 x large cod and chips, mushy peas and curry sauce here on our first night here. £34. The fish was massive and really tasty and the chips were spot on not all soft or dried out. Nice to get a proper hearty portion. Well done friendly staff and great food we will definitely be back. We'll wort the money

On the occasion of a family wedding nearby we booked multiple rooms . Although I managed to get in a muddle with booking.com the hotel was very helpful and accommodating in helping to sort that out. The room we stayed in was excellent, with views across the Teign, a spacious room with a good bay window area featuring two decent chairs. Other members of our party were similarly satisfied with their room. We used the restaurant in the evening, pre ordering as there was 10 in the party. The food was excellent and brought out altogether so none of that waiting till everyone has their food nonsense, which is a pet hate of mine. The hotel serves good beer, featuring beer from Otter Brewery and Hanlons amongst others. There is a very pleasant outside area for drinking/eating and an ample car park. I thought the prices for accommodation and food were reasonable. Lastly the staff were friendly and accommodating. I would recommend the Cockhaven to anyone wishing to stay and/or eat in this area.
