The Bistro at Powderham Farm Shop in Teignbridge

We visited for afternoon tea on Mothers Day, so unsurprisingly things were busy and the atmosphere slightly hectic. The food ranged from great (scones) to ok (sandwiches and little cakes). It was good value and whilst we'd definitely revisit to eat off the normal menu (the other food and cakes being eaten around us looked delicious), it probably isn't the best location for any sort of special occasion as the setting and ambience doesn't really suit.

My favourite place to eat locally. Good food,lovely staff, plenty of views and atmosphere.

Well worth a visit ...excellent menu and service and dog friendly...check the opening times for the castle

Went in for drinks. No Chai latte on the menu. Ordered an Americano no milk and a cappuccino. The drinks took longer than would normally be expected and what arrived was disappointing, the Americano was more like hot mud and the cappuccino was more like a latte given nearly all milk. More training and different beans definitely required. Not sure we will be returning.

Called in for a mid afternoon snack I had a bowl of mushroom soup that was extremely hot and watery. We also ordered a toasted tea cake which was barely warm and came with a block of very cold butter which could not be spread. We left the soup and ate half the cold tea cake. All in all very disappointing.

Wow, oh wow. Never in my life have I had such an impeccable all round experience. I recently visited for cake and a hot chocolate and my tastebuds were tingling. Service was brilliant too!!

Had a lovely sweet pepper butternut squash and pepper soup with granary bread for lunch. Would definitely have that again. Cappaccinos were a good size too. would eat here again

I can’t remember the last time I had a breakfast as good as this, It had everything a cooked breakfast should have, for how good it tasted It was definitely worth the money. The scrambled egg was probably the best part as it tasted absolutely unbelievable Best breakfast ever

We only had drinks on this occasion. We were served by Maxine who was so bright and cheerful it made our day. She is a credit to your business. Every cafe needs a Maxine.

Very nice, coffees always lovely and afternoon tea was good. Lovely walks nearby.

Lots of gluten free options for breakfast and decent portions that will keep you nice and full. Lovely friendly staff and of course tasty food.

Lovely place, but £3.50 for one scone is laughable..

It's a great cafe with lovely ambience. I went for my birthday lunch. Service was good and food arrived promptly. Both my son and I ordered burgers which were ok- a bit bland and coleslaw wasn't great but chips were good. Burgers tasted good once mustard, mayo and ketchup were added. It is a great place for coffee and cake or afternoon tea.

This place offers so much more than delicious food. Their deserts are pure bliss, plus you can shop for high quality food and a variety of flowers in the adjuscent shopsw. Walking towards the Powderham castle and visiting the premises are additional bonuses.

One of the best meals out that I've had! (Had the dish with prawn cocktail, smoked mackerel, smoked salmon, coleslaw and salad, and paid a small supplement to swap the bread for amazing skin-on, chunky chips! It was all delicious.)

Boring place.... Could do much more

Went on a Saturday morning had to wait 50 mins to get my order of coffees and scone, their excuse was it was busy, if u run a cafe with that many seats u should at least be able to manage, some people were waiting over an hour and some had there food finished it and still waited for their coffees, need to improve on the service

Only had drinks but service good and views of castle great.

Friday brunch was perfect in the glorious sunshine! Coronation ploughman's mmm!

I had to sit and look at a huge photo of entitled blokes wearing dressing-up, about to chase and kill the wildlife with their horses and dogs. I find the glorification of blood 'sports' offensive.

Good place for coffee or snack. Can get noisy if crowded, but good atmosphere and friendly efficient staff.

Went with my husband for a cream tea as we regularly do, excellent as usual and the service is fantastic lovely staff always made welcome.

A lovely variety of food, in a beautiful setting, if you fancy something a bit different. It's a small place so you would almost expect the standard fayre but they have a good selection of healthy alternatives including a specials board. We didn't have a cake, but they looked great too .. maybe next time.

Nice bistro dog friendly lovely surroundings

On arrival at 9am when it first opened, we were met with zero customer service. The woman was miserable, I was told to help myself to the menus rather than be offered to take a seat & have the menus brought over. It was empty, we were the first in there and yet the table we sat at was still dirty. The place has become so scruffy, dirty & clearly zero staff training over the past couple of years. When we moved to Devon in 2021 it was a favourite of ours, lovely staff, amazing food. How sad it is nothing like it used to be :( Needless to say we looked at the menu then walked out, refusing to eat somewhere which was grubby & staff were clueless

Very good staff excellent and good service.

Have dined here very happily on many occasions but it has apparently changed hands, no table ordering service, unsmiling staff, at best average food and lack of atmospherte. Such a shame!

Very good lunch, in spectacular grounds. Well worth a visit

A delightful little bistro with delicious food and a welcoming atmosphere. Having not been here before, but passing all the time, I decided to give this spot a try as I had family visiting. Admittedly, I was a little worried because I wanted something representative of locally sourced foods such as a heart ploughman's lunch, I wasn't disappointed. The menu had something for everyone, but surprisingly all my guests had the Ploughman's (Cheddar, Brie and Brixham crab) and thoroughly enjoyed the fresh, tasty, and generous lunch. The granary bread was a perfect match for all 3 of the meals. I had the open roast beef sandwich which was perfect and came with a generous portion of beef, perfectly cooked and full of flavour. The luscombe soft drinks were also a hit with everyone, along with a rich hot chocolate. Overall, my entire experience was great, from the meal, staff and atmosphere.

Wouldn't go again. The cream tea was mediocre at best. Tiny amount of runny cream, the scone was cold and tasted bad, tiny amount of jam.

We only had tea and cake but it was well-presented and the staff were very helpful and accommodating. I'll be back!

Not as good as last time. We had fruit scones and tea. Scones were cold and butter must have just come out of the freezer. Tea was good. The view of the castle and estuary is always pleasing.

Delicious lunch, service excellent

Our meal was delicious and worth the waiting time. All ingredients were fresh and tasty. Good composition of the menu so everyone can find something that suits him. Customer service is very friendly and helpful. The location of Bistro offers a nice option for a walk after having a meal. There is a car park and when the weather is good you can sit outside. It's definitely a place where I will come back.

I ordered from the "Specials" board 3 meals, all the same. I paid for them only to realise I had appeared to have been overcharged. When I questioned this, I was told the price on the board was wrong and I had to pay the price from the printed menu for the same meal. Also, there was a couple next to us who were allowed to let their dog sit on their lap at the table. They were given snacks for the dog by the staff, and the dog was then eating from the table, including licking the table.

Great meal, excellent service. If going for a meal, we suggest pre booking a table, as this is a very popular Bistro. Good atmosphere.

Food was plentiful and tasty, the waitresses were very attentive, service was quick, the bistro was lovely and light though we were all a bit hot with all the glass,. But a great lunch. Definitely recommend.

Lemon drizzle cake was rather heavy though a lovely flavour. Very pleasant, helpful staff in a warm atmosphere.

The toilets are truly awful! If the kitchen is as bad there will be truly difficult times ahead.

Extremely slow service. Staff seemed untrained. Waiting time for hot drinks was so long we left and went elsewhere. Overall a disappointing experience.

Really great lunch here the other day. The staff were really lovely and super helpful. They accommodated when we wanted to wait for the lunch menu to start and the food we had was nice. Lovely light place to eat with a really nice feel to it :)

It was a nice atmosphere my friends enjoyed their coffee but their scones were awful, so dry as though they had been left out all week. They did give a replacement cake, but they should go through all their food before they open to the public

very nice, good quality food , little pricy for breakfast but worth it I felt, only small criticism, sausages could perhaps been cooked a little less and a touch more unmelted butter would have been nice

Choice now poorer than website menu. Got my order wrong. Shame no more home cooked type meals such as fish pie, fish & chips, meat etcwith veg or salad, all downgraded to sandwiches, burgers, jacket potatoes etc. Can't see it surviving post tourist season.

Stop off here for a bite to eat before going to the castle. Staff were very nice and friendly. Service was slow, looked like the staff were unorganized. Food was nice and fairly priced, coffee and hot chocolate was nice as well. Would recommend it.

Awful experience terrible staff. Mum’s birthday experience ruined by staff that need a lot more customer service training. My advice would be to stay well away from this place.

Came in today, as was very hungry, and only was camping around a corner at the event. Walked in and was greeted by a sign saying wait to be seated. 5 minutes later, not attended by anyone walked up to the counter to ask if I could order some food, only to be told that it's table service, and we will bring the menus and and take your order at the table. Great, mentioned that I'm seated outside, and went to sit with my friends and my dog outside. 15 minutes later, still haven't seen any staff, to show any interest that the customers are waiting outside. Somebody else came and sat out side, and they got a dessert board presented instantly. Still nothing.... and all this time the lads behind the counter are yapping away with each other. Left... Not only hungry, but angry as well... Well worth a visit if you just want to sit about and don't get served...

Very disappointed, came for Sunday lunch, having viewed a menu on line, but no roast sirloin, no venison haunch, no slow cooked pork, infact no Sunday menu at all. The food we did have was very good so it's a shame to be so negative, but please remove your Sunday menu if your not going to offer it. I was told you haven't had that offer for some time. I really was looking forward to a Sunday dinner not ham egg and chips, or a sandwich

Cycled here from Exeter on a bright sunny day. It was an hour’s ride on mostly flat path. Enjoyed a scone and some coffee. Lovely views and location. Plenty of inside, under the roof and open seating to enjoy the food and drinks. We were there before noon and the lunch starts at noon so could only have the items off breakfast menu. Would definitely recommend and will definitely cycle back there again.

Incredibly slow service!!! 45 minutes for two Luke warm coffees. I could understand if it was busy but it wasn’t. It also took two different waitresses to clear the previous customers dirty plates away too. Will not be returning

Go in here weekly for coffee & it's become a running joke as to how rude the staff will be! I've never experienced such a bad attitude towards customers.

We haven't visited for a long time but dropped in on our way back home from Exeter. Only wanted drinks. It's table service, friendly and efficient and the cappuccino was very nice.

Good friendly service and a lovely lamb Easter Sunday lunch from the specials board. We'll prepared good quality food.

Nice farm shop type cafe restaurant with good menu. Food and service very good. Could do with blinds on the skylights next time you redecorate.

The Bistro is situated in an Orangery and serves high quality food.

Whether you want a quick bite, a cup of coffee, or a warm hearty meal, this is a place to visit. With quick service and a great view of the castle grounds, you can enjoy a burger worth making a mess for. (The coleslaw is also great)

We left it a bit late to be fair but the seats were very comfortable and the coffee cake was good as was the toasted tea cake tea's and cappuccino. Ps the view and shop were good.

Possibly the best breakfast we have had in a long, long time, service top class, a little busy and as such very noisy but very enjoyable none the less...

Lovely place to share a coffee with friends. Coffee was a nice blend. Staff seated us promptly and went above and beyond to accommodate orders. We didn't eat this time but the food coming out looked amazing. We got there as they opened, it soon filled up and was very busy.
