A lovely quirky railway station selling goods and second hand books as well as a decent brekkie.....we always remember this place from years gone when we popped in on way home from a holiday and they had no sandwiches left.....the lady in there offered to make some up for us and very delicious they were too.

Very dissapointed. We were on a train journey to Exeter on Saturday 10th February 24 and decided to disembark at Teignmouth Railway station to enjoy a breakfast at the Whistle stop cafe. I checked their website online which stated they were open until 4pm. Having got to the cafe at 12 noon we found it all closed up and not open as stated. Just to warn other potential customers who rely on up to date information on their website to avoid wasting your time.

Rude and inconsiderate staff. I had been walking all day in the hot sun, then stuck at a stopped train for an hour because of a fire, desperately needing water, only enough money on my card for my bus home. I politely asked the lady if she wouldn't mind refilling my water bottle with the tap, she said yes for a donation to their charity. I said yes but all I had was about 20p, she said no we take 50p. So I ask my mum if she has money and she only has 10p. So basically, this women denies a dehydrated person water, because they need 50p "donation" to a charity for building a well in Africa. Oh the irony! Also that's not what a donation is, that's buying, if it was donation she would take what I had. If I had anymore I would have given it. So I go thirsty in this heat, and the kids in Africa that she cares so much about don't get my donation either. Wow what a SAINT!

I returned again to have my fab English Breakfast from The Whistlestop Cafe. Always freshly cooked food, served promptly and delicious food I always look forward to. Friendly service with a smile. I ordered the Standard Breakfast with hash browns, beans and toast with a milky coffee. You can have tomatoes instead of beans and fried bread instead of toast if you want. Prices are very good and they do various sizes of breakfasts too plus a good selection of other food. I love the Railway themed artefacts around the cafe too, it is a great place to relax and eat your meal. They have a childs high chair too if you have a little one with you. The toilet facilities are on the Station just beside the cafe. You can also get your food and drink to travel with and a selection of sweets, chocolate and crisps. Newspapers for sale and they sell pre-owned books for 50p if you want a read on your travels, such a bargain. Love this cafe, go and have a meal there if you are in Teignmouth and you won't regret it.

I go regularly to The Whistlestop Cafe as I live locally and it is a brilliant place to go for food especially the cooked breakfasts, the coffee is great too. The breakfasts are always freshly cooked and very tasty. I love the Cafe it is full of atmosphere with lots of rail artefacts on the walls. There are plenty of tables outside. A lot of care is being taken to protect staff and customers from Covid-19 at the moment. There is always a warm welcome from the lovely staff serving in there. The prices are great, I had a Standard Breakfast and a Milky Coffee this time, all delicious. They do large breakfasts too for those with big appetites. The other food is great too. You can get cold drinks, hot drinks, take away food, magazines/newspapers, sweets, crisps and books for your journey too. The owner supports lots of local charities too. It is a fab experience and excellent freshly cooked food. There are toilets available on the station and they are very clean. The photos I have shown are from a previous visit as my phone was out of battery this time. Highly recommend a visit if you are in Teignmouth.

Visiting Teignmouth for the day as we often do. Usually go to sea front cafe (you know the one!) but today it was surprisingly closed. Remembed visiting WSC a few years back for a bacon butty so decided to see if it was still running. Greeted very warmly by staff and ordered cheese on toast for us both which was delicious and well loaded. Came with a pot of tea big enough for a large family but very welcome! I have just had a fab breakfast and milky coffee at The Whistlestop Cafe, I go to this Cafe regularly, it is one of my favourite places in Teignmouth. The food is excellent and always well cooked with friendly service. Prices are very reasonable too, The breakfasts are excellent and so is the other food they serve, I have always had great meals in there. Plenty of choice and great milky coffee, my favourite. The Cafe has loads of character with old railway memorabilia on the walls. Vegetarian options on the menu too. The staff are all friendly and welcoming. If you are catching a train just let them know beforehand so they can make sure there is enough time to freshly cook your meal and then catch your train. The pies and pasties are great too, they sell sit in and take away food, you can buy your papers and magazines, sweets and drinks for the journey, they have book shelves so you can choose a book for 50p and have a read on your journey, a greetings card stand where they are 50p each or 3 for a £1, there is general bric a brac for sale too, the money raised goes to various charities and to good causes. There is a biker night on a Tuesday night and this is very well attended. There are tables inside and outside, it is lovely to sit outside on a sunny day. There is parking outside for those with cars and the cafe is all on one level for anybody with walking difficulties, there is a high chair for babies too. There are public toilets on the station you can use and there is a train information screen showing the train times inside the cafe. I would definitely recommend this Cafe if you are in the area or travelling from Teignmouth Station :-)

Arriving at the station not having had breakfast we decided on trying "The Whistle Stop". I'm glad we did. The service was fast, the food was good with a wide choice, the staff friendly, the serving was plentiful and inexpensive. OK it's not gourmet and the furniture is basic, but the walls are decorated with railway memorabilia which I found fascinating. That they were well patronised by locals is in itself a recommendation. They also sell old railway books and magazines, (for charity I believe). I wish more stations had small independent cafes rather than the expensive chains. NOTE. I think the "Terrible" review complaining that a South Devon cafe doesn't accept Scottish bank notes is unjustified. In southern England retailers know how to recognise forged English notes, but not forgeries of uncommon notes.

Another wet Sunday train cock-up: the Riviera Express once more delayed ... thank Gd for the Whistlestop which provides tea, food, newspapers and company. Those who want this place smartened up are missing the point. The totally un-smart decor, the oddments on sale, the local clientele, are what provide the slightly eccentric atmosphere. It is the antithesis of a coffee-shop.I would hate some trendy restaurateur to take it over and turn it into a 'venue'. Long live the Whistlestop, rescuer of stranded travellers.

the general feel of this place is dirty; some of the staff are very pleasant but i wouldnt eat in there again. I have heard tales of dog hair in the butter and bread pudding and the kitchen not being cleaned etc as well as out of date food being used. Visited this cafe this morning. Only had Scottish banknotes and was turned away because they don't accept Scottish money. Their reasoning was because many Scottish banknotes are counterfeit. I ask a question are there no Bank of England counterfeit notes. A cafe at a railway n where teignmouth is trying to sell itself as a tourist destination. I hope the bars hoteliers and amenities respect the welcome that this excuse of a greasy cafe delivers

There should be a government warning about this pub. You should be warned about how lovely it is. So nice to walk into a pub that's still a pub. It's how a pub should be. We went with friends for the first time last week and we will certainly visit again. Great atmosphere with friendly locals, lovely staff and then the food ‼️ OMG this is what pub food should be like. Fresh, cooked on site and a desperate Dan size portion. I could not recommend this pub any more. It's a proper pub with proper grub. Go you will love it.
