Dartmoor Halfway Inn in Teignbridge

Found this pub by accident, and what a treat it was for us to have breakfast there. The food was great, and the staff was very helpful, loverly atmosphere to the place. Free car park.

My partner Karen and I went to the Dartmoor Halfway Inn, Newton Abbot, With my Sister and Brother in law, Nephew and Niece and Great - Nephew we all had a starter, Main, and Deserts and drinks, Had a great night, The staff were polite, friendly, and the place was clean and tidy, I would go back here again, Well worth a visit

My husband and I both had very mediocre overpriced meals. I had the beetroot burger being vegetarian and it was as bland as can be, dry and tasteless and my husband had the Dartmoor cheese steak which was really dull and tasteless. I would have said something at the time but it was a friends celebration and didn’t want to sour the atmosphere. Wouldn’t eat here again.

Lovely Mothers Day meal during which we had good service despite being busy! The food was tasty. We had a big party - 11 of us, including 5 children and we all had roasts. The roasts for children were £8.40 and adults £16.90. Served with potatoes, parsnips, gravy and then a side of cabbage, suede and cheesy cauliflower. Plenty enough portion size but you can be the judge on the cost. Puddings were great too, I can recommend the Eton Mess Sundae! As long we will come again…

Nicely decorated with large dining and very good food

Called in on the off chance when passing and was so impressed with the service and food. They had unfortunately lost their gas supply but the menu and food was wonderful. Very friendly staff and us and the dog received a warm welcome.

Lovely little pub. Cosy vibes and nice setting. Unfortunately service wasn't very good, unfriendly staff and the barmaids friends were sat up at the bar playing loud videos on their phones and the staff were ignoring people waiting for a drinks.

Excellent lunch, we both thoroughly enjoyed our food. So tasty and fresh. The service was also great. We will be back soon!

Fantastic service, staff and lovely room. Whilst the food was of a high standard generally, a couple of people from within our large group mentioned that their vegetables were far too firm. And I would have to agree with that. Great experience had overall though and I woukdn't hesitate to visit them again.

We called in for drinks. We've previously stayed here twice before and eaten here. However on this occasion we witnessed a customer feeding their dog from the pub plates. Now people have to eat from these plates. The dog was also allowed to place it's head on the table and sit on furniture where customers will have to sit and get covered in dog hairs. I brought this to the attention of the staff. The pub was over run with dogs in a dining area. I won't be eating here again!!! I'm not against dogs going into pubs but they should be kept on a lead and on the floor.

Group of 4- three tasty meals but one very bad-i.e. lamb kofta. Rock hard fajitas & solid, hard to cut into kofta. Appeared warmed up from lunch service-would have complained but was a treat out, so doing so now! Good otherwise but let down badly by this.

My family and I had a lovely Sunday lunch. Very nice food and great service. Lots of parking and cosy booth seating too. We would visit again!

We had a 2-night break for our Wedding Anniversary, and were delighted with our choice of Inn, its location and facilities. Room 4 was excellent - clean, comfortable, warm and well equipped. The bottled water and fresh milk for tea and coffee was appreciated. Breakfast was exactly what we asked for and beautifully cooked. Staff were most welcoming and friendly throughout, answering all our questions. We had 2 dinners - the roast on Sunday and our own choice on Monday, and it was really enjoyable. We wished we'd stayed another night. Thank you to all staff.

Excellent, service, food and staff

My wife and myself have visited the Dartmoor Halfway Inn for lunch or dinner around 8 times in the past 6-months. We have also visited with other family members. The Inn is a lovely well maintained building with a cosy ambience. The food is always excellent and we think they serve the best beef burger in the Dartmoor area. The staff are polite, courteous and pleasant. Thoroughly recommended.

There is a great deal of good to say about this place, but, unlike many of these reviews, I was somewhat disappointed by the food. The venue was fine, service excellent and all very clean. It has an outside area where you can eat which must be lovely when the sun is shining. I had soup as a starter. Bread was good (had been warmed), two small pats of butter each in paper with the name of the maker and a smallish bowl of tomato and basil soup which was so filled with croutons and an array of green stuff that I could hardly taste it. A bit too much effort into how it looked than on what it tasted I felt. Would not have it again. Main course was beef and mushroom in ale pie. Clearly home made in a dish with a very thin layer of pastry on top. Beautiful beef, well cooked, in a gravy which was rather thick for me and quite salty. Wasn't keen on the pastry. With it came a pot of peas (it really needed a selection of vegetables) and some chips which were ok but nothing special. I thought, overall, it was somewhat expensive for what it was. Maybe I chose wrongly but I guess I will not be quick to try it again. Please , however, to be fair on the restaurant, note that there are lots of good reviews here and I may be one of the few disappointing ones.

We stayed over at the Dartmoor Halfway Inn on Saturday 30th September to attend a birthday party in the pub’s back room. Our bedroom (Room1) was warm, clean and tidy, the complimentary tea and coffee makings, bottled water and toiletries were welcome and the early morning milk delivery to our doorstep was a nice touch. There was a spacious car park with reserved spaces for the 4 guest rooms, plus a small motor home & caravan park tucked away at the back. The pub served a buffet on the night for the birthday party guests which was plentiful and tasty. There was a wide range of beers and wines by the glass available in the bar and we had a fabulous breakfast the next day which was included in the price of the room. In addition to all of that, all of the staff were friendly, hospitable and professional, and I would specifically mention the two assistant managers who we met over the two days (the actual manageress was not on duty that weekend) - the young lady who booked us in and the gent who looked after our group at breakfast, who both did an outstanding job.

We only stayed for one night, but we had a really nice time. The site is really tidy, and the amenities are clean. We also ate in the pub, and the food was great. The staff were really friendly. I would recommend this for a short stay 😃

The camping pitches are a great size and very private with 6 foot hedges separating the pitches. There are 22 pitches and only 3 toilets. 5 showers. While we were there they added 2 portaloos. But there was no light inside them so you can't use them when it's dark. The lighting around the caravan pitches was broken in sooner places. The cleaner who did the toilets/showers left much to be desired, I emptied the remains of other people's shower gel and shampoo out of the showers most mornings after the cleaner had been round. There was a constant smell from the septic tank behind the toilets. The phone signal at the site is non existent for all providers. There is hit and miss WiFi. But as soon as a few people log on to it you lose your connection. If a bit of money was spent expanding the toilet block and maintaining the site it would be a little gem,

We had an OK experience camping here. There is only 3 toilets for over 30 pitches. Not ideal. The cleanliness was not great either. All you could smell was the sceptic tank behind the toilets. Pitch is a good size, very private. Kitchen facilities are not covered. So good luck washing pots in the rain.

Having been out all day driving and visiting around Devon, we were ready to eat. As we were staying not far away from this pub we three would book for a meal. It was short boy it the lovely lady who answered the phone was very helpful and slotted us in! On arrival we were greeted by a very pleasant ( and funny) gentleman who seated us and provided menus and took our drinks order, he explained the specials to us and left us to choose! We both had the 10oz rump steak! Oh my word!!!! What a fantastic meal, the steak was gorgeous and cooked to our liking, chips, mushrooms, tomato and salad! Brilliant!! Sad we were not able to go back but are tempted to book a room there for a couple of nights!

An amazingly dog friendly pub whose staff are so friendly it warms the heart. Nice well maintained campsite too. We will be back.

Great place to stay at the campsite if your touring around with a camper or caravan and they serve good food in the nice and warm pub. Campsite is newly constructed with large pitches and electricity. Nice view on the hill. Also some footpaths nearby (see map). Camping is a bit pricy, we paid £30-35 per night.

Breakfast was pleasant (other than bacon being rubbery) but heard staff talking bad about each-other; doesn’t seem like a friendly workplace.

We stayed with our caravan which is behind the pub lovely clean site. Dartmoor halfway Inn serves a fantastic breakfast to start your day plenty of choice. Same with food served from dinner time all day can highly recommend the fish and chips. Will definitely be back.

Our local pub which never fails to please. Gorgeous cosy country vibe, plenty of outdoor seating for summer and a lovely restaurant for busier evenings. Food is always delicious, have never had a bad meal. Desserts are particularly impressive! Friendly staff and quick service without feeling rushed.
