Ring of Bells Restaurant in Teignbridge

Our first visit to both the village of North Bovey and The Ring of Bells and well worth it, a quintessentially typical chocolate box Devon village, The Ring of Bells is situated around the village green. With plenty of outside seating in the front courtyard, inside is a beautiful and authentic mix of wooden beams, with a soft modern accent, beautifully decor, soft furnishings, spacious and elegant, the use of the interior space has been considerately thought through. The menu was a delight of locally sourced ingredients, varied and balanced to suit all tastes, I tried the scallops and the rump which were both superb, between us we also tried the spicy parsnip soup and the calamari, along with both the quiche’s of the day and the sausage and mash, all of which were a delight on the taste buds. Having left room for dessert, we opted for the home made dark chocolate cheesecake, creme brûlée and tiramisu, all of which were a superb finish to a very exceptional, delicious meal. The service was efficient, friendly and welcoming, the presentation of the meals was exemplary, and we look forward to returning soon, thanks guys, a very special afternoon in deed

Had lunch today, with my girlfriends. It was lovely to see the fires lit, lovely ambience and a busy restaurant. The food was excellent, and the staff welcoming and super efficient. Well Done to the team. We will be back. Laurie Preece

Hiked over here from Bovey Castle and enjoyed a rewarding beer at the pub. Lovely place and cozy pub. Looks like a great place to dine as well.

Food was lovely as always. Staff were friendly and when we asked for something it arrived quickly. It was busy so we did have to wait a little while for staff to come back to order more drinks etc. it was also very noisy! I think the football being on contributed to that.

Wife delayed at work so decided to have a quick bite at the Ring of Bells. Service,Staff and food are always first class. Had the 2for 1 pizza deal which was great.Pizza very tasty and quite large.

Service excellent, restaurant lovely atmosphere. The gammon was very salty but wasn’t, last time we ate there, so a bit unfortunate. The Steak very tasty although slightly tough. A little overpriced for what you got. Although I would eat there again.

Enjoyed Sunday lunch . Food excellent well presented and good flavour. Lots of Vegs which I enjoy. Room warm and not noisy. Friendly and helpful waitress .

Beautiful, picturesque, friendly, top quality service and lovely veggie meal from the specials menu. I went on my own because I needed somewhere quiet to work and eat. The staff were lovely and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit.

Had been here before so was expecting a similar experience but was disappointed overall. The 2 areas of the pub (where we ate and then drank) were not very well heated and 2 of our group had to put their coats back on to eat. There were children being allowed to run about the area where we eat which didn't make for a pleasant or restful atmosphere. The food was perfectly acceptable but nothing to write home about. It felt like fairly poor value when the bill arrived. The staff were fine and helpful though product knowledge wasn't the best (I was told that there was no real ale because of a problem with the gas - which real ale doesn't require!).

The booking process was very straightforward and the follow-up reminder was useful. The menu for the children had a good range of options for mains, sides and desserts; the adult menu had a very wide range of options to suit all tastes. The service was friendly and reasonably quick. We have been to the Ring O' Bells several times before and would certainly visit again.

Great selection on the menu and good prices especially on Tuesday when it’s 50% off (which is unfortunately finishing at the end of February). Staff were efficient and pleasant. Our table however was cold with a draught from the front door.

Pleasantly busy on arrival and orders taken really quickly. Food arrived promptly and was lovely. Service was fantastic. A really lovely tea time treat tonight. Thank you.

Visited whilst staying at Bovey Castle, admittedly we had high gastropub with character expectations after viewing website and pictures, ordered a starter main and dessert the dessert was the star of the show, the portion size excellent and quality good although a little bland and perhaps a tiny bit "rustic" we just didn't feel it quite met what the pub itself is aiming for. The service was outstanding all the team were extremely efficient friendly welcoming and polite and all feedback was given at the time. The waitress did explain the pub had been through a few changes of ownership and a rebuild after a serious fire and whilst the interior little clinical it does still retain much of its original character, we wish them the very best of luck and it was refreshing that feedback given during the visit was appreciated by the team we would definitely recommend and return. We do understand the extreme cost pressures and felt pricing very reasonable if it needed to be a tad more expensive for a slight polish on quality I think you would be ok.

This is a good place to eat food quality is excellent and staff are friendly. Like most places could do with more desserts for gluten free guests. Prices are a little higher than some places we go but we will definitely be back

This was our second visit, and unfortunately we experienced poor service on both occasions. This most recent one we waited an hour for our food to come and when it arrived, we had to send it back due to it being cold. The response from staff wasn’t particularly great and nothing was knocked off the bill. On the previous visit we were given the wrong meals, some of the meals were cold, the coke was flat and they forgot about us as we were sat in the back corner. Again, nothing was knocked off the bill and they weren’t overly apologetic. Really disappointing after we had heard such great reviews.

Even though not very busy the service was slow. I would however try there again in hope the service improves.

2 for 1 pizzas were delicious. It feels like the freshest pizza you can have. And really good value for money.

It’s the first time we have visited the ring o bells but it’s definitely not our last. The food was really good,The staff helpful and friendly everywhere’s was spotless and the best bit all food was half price on a Tuesday. 👍👍

Food was lovely as always. My son loves the pasta and chips option on kids menu. Who doesn’t love double carbs. Food came quickly and staff great and engaged with son who was being a bit bonkers. Only slight issue was Our table was behind a pillar so was hard to attract staff attention. I would prob have had another drink with meal had I been able to flag someone down !

Went for the Wed 2 for 1 pizza offer ; nice pizzas, friendly helpful staff, good value on the offer.

Lovely food and kind staff. But food very slow to come out due to it being very busy and being seated next to a huge table meant it was very loud! That said it was amazing value on 50 % off Tuesday.

We went to the Ring O' Bells for Sunday lunch and enjoyed it very much. The service was quick and our order was taken by an extremely amiable young man!! Our food was very tasty and the plate was full. There was a mixture of food available on the menu. We also enjoyed a dessert which was yummie!!

The staff are warm welcoming and extremely helpful.

Was a very busy night, as there was 50% off the food which was good. But the noise level, we had to shout to be heard. All the girls on service were very pleasant, but were rushed off their feet. We had to wait quite sometime for our food. Although it was lovely when it came

Food took over an hour to arrive. I got sauce on my chair and coat from previous diner at our table. Food was delicious when it arrived though.

We have had Sunday lunch here many time, I just did not think the lunch was up to its usual standard. Have you changes your meat supplier as the beef was tough and hard to cut and eat.

Visited a couple of weeks ago for 241 pizza after not visiting for a few years. Only took me a couple of weeks to be back again, great deal for some great pizzas! Would definitely recommend!

Special pizza was bland and lacked flavour, calzone pizza lacked filling and brisket was very fatty. Not their normal standard.

We haven’t been for a while with the family. We were all absolutely delighted with the food, the service and the price. Lovely atmosphere. Would highly recommend the Ring O’Bells.

Hope they have changed their poor attitude since my visit. I visited some time ago with a friend of mine house hunting in the area. We were ignored (refused service) for over half hour because we were on motorcycles. I have read articles about it going bust ? I would give zero stars but it wont let me post that.

I have been a customer of the Bells for over 20 years and really wish I could give it 5 stars for everything but the price they charge for some drinks is extortionate, a glass of Prosecco 125 mil is virtually £8 and is very poor quality but sidestep this and you will enjoy the pub . The staff are great the food is good and the atmosphere is welcoming.

New Year’s Eve was our first time at the Ring O Bells. The food was delicious. We ordered a roast beef dinner, a roast pork dinner, a cheese burger and a chicken burger. Couldn’t fault any of it.

After a terrible night at a pub down the road ( brewers fayre next to premier inn ) your pub was a breath of fresh air from the great service to the fantastic food. I never thought as a dedicated meat eater that I would be having sea bass and it was great. Four happy people at the end of the night. Thanks

Have been to the Ring O’ Bells before, so know what to expect. Food as usual was excellent, our sever was very good, friendly and happy. Very good evening catching up with friends.

Service was great, so friendly and efficient. Food was delicious and served hot. We ordered the hand cut chips to go with our wrap and sandwiches. They were OK but looked like we got the crispy ends so left half of them. Would go again and would recommend

Ring o Bells used to be outstanding, last couple of visits the food has not been as good as it used to be. Fish batter was thick and stodgy not the light crispy version it used to be. Pie of the day, was not great, a stodgy pie with only a couple of bits of meat. Sunday lunch meat is dry and lacking flavour. On the positive, I recently had the Sea Bass which was excellent, and a friend of ours had a Budda Bowl which she really enjoyed.

Excellent food and excellent service, a very beautiful place to eat in a beautiful location.

Always come here on Boxing day. Busy lunch time but our 6 meals all came out very close to each other. All meals hot and all tasty.

Service started off good then had to ask them to take orders for deserts, also had to ask for more cutlery and had to go the bar for drinks. Food was lovely though couldn’t fault it! It was Christmas Eve so understand it is a busy day.

We booked a table at 7 arrived on time were sat down given a drink and then left alone completely until about 7.40 which is when we decided to leave having been able to phone up and book somewhere else at 7.30. You may say why did we not chase up someone to take our order having been given menus but then again is that not their job ? Best thing is on the way out they refunded our drinks as an apology which is why I rated the value as high and everything else as low. BTW had great meal at Stamford Bridge instead.

Ate here a couple of nights back and it was OK, we certainly expected more as we'd read some good reviews and we were coming up from Torquay with friends who were visiting. Sadly, no chateaubriand available so my wife and I opted for the Tomahawk for two which were both looking forward to though sadly it wasnt seasoned and came to the table a little cold - as if it had been sat in the kitchen a little too long. The scallop starter was nice, tasty and enjoyable. Limited GF options,.no GF beers. The place itself is a big space with lots of tables available - sadly like most places these days, the interior is a little sterile rather than cost which you would want from a country pub. There's also another pub with the same name about five or so miles away, worth bearing in mind if heading out - make sure you go to the right one!

Enjoy meal. Everything OK but would have preferred to be in the conservatory for lunch rather than the main bar area as a little more room between tables so would have been easier to talk. Otherwise all fine. Thanks.

requested a nice table as it's my husbands birthday. we were seated next to the toilets. food ok. it was amazing back in October. Bao buns microwaved until hard. just not as nice and very loud

We were a bit disappointed that we were told on the night that the festive menu is only available on pre order, its not easily obvious on the menu that this is the case. However turkey was on the main menu and that & a pud actually worked out a £1 odd cheaper this way. The menu ststed creamy mashed potatoes included, but we didnt get any. The food was lovely and the service was good, there was a bit of a wait on the drinks. Overall we were happy at the end of the night.

The food here is always excellent and staff are friendly, attentive but never intrusive. I visit fairly regularly with friends and family and always enjoy it. Yesterday, once again, was the same BUT it was so hot in the dining room. With the winter sun beaming through the windows we would have appreciated the heating being a little lower. Other than that, a perfect catch up before Christmas.

We both had very nice meals - roast turkey and peppered beef pie. Waitress was attentive and polite. Will definitely go again

The staff were very attentive and helpful. We had booked but 2 people were sitting at our table and the pub was very busy so there wasn't another table we could be transferred to. The waitress asked the 2 gentleman to move politely (they were there having been to a funeral in the village, which was why the pub was so very busy), which they did and went to sit with other people from the funeral congregation. We were asked for our order for drinks promptly and these were brought to us very quickly; we were then asked for our food order and the food was also brought to us promptly. We each had a sandwich; the sandwich menu isn't particularly extensive but we were both happy with what we'd chosen, although both were very difficult to eat (we had been given knives and forks, which we definitely needed!). We shouldn't complain about that, however, as it was because the sandwich - and panini-type roll in my case - was stuffed full of the ingredients; they certainly didn't skimp! I would definitely return to the Ring O' Bells (indeed, I have been there a good number of times before, although not recently as I don't live nearby now but I was pleased to see that it was still as good as it had been.

The food was fantastic and the young man that attended us was superb However I sadly can’t say the same for management. After a previous bad meal I was assured on our next visit we would receive a complementary meal, now I’m not unreasonable I realise the Christmas menu more expensive and wasn’t expecting a free meal I was however assured my bill would be adjusted accordingly but it wasn’t ! I won’t be visiting again

Lovely midweek lunch. Chef REALLY knows their stuff. Steak was top notch and the baguette was great. Great service from the waiter as well. Bonus points for great coffee. Bit of a trek off the main roads but totally worth the trip Much appreciated we'll be back again

Very tasty food served in a light and airy setting by cheerful staff. Initially the air temperature felt a little chilly, but it warmed up as the restaurant filled.

Came here for Sunday lunch with the H(N)DG and Dog on a rainy Sunday. The pub and staff were incredibly warm and welcoming. The staff let us choose where we sat, were incredibly accomodating about the menu (which was excellent - we both had different vairations of the Sunday lunch / roast and it was incredibly good with extremely generous portions), were really good to Dog (including choice titbits from the kitchen) and were just generally really friendly and genuine. Great wine list, great service, great menu, great atmosphere. Had a thoroughly good time, would go back and would highly recommend.

I love the relaxed feel within this pub, we go most Sundays.. the carvery is absolutely top notch!! On the day we visited there was actually an emergency situation going on with somebody choking but the way the team handled the situation and kept service flowing was truly impressive!

The food and staff were superb! It took a little while to get drinks and there was a lot of slamming of cutlery going on behind the bar. The trio of meat roast dinner takes some beating. I will definitely come back soon

We arrived unannounced due to a problem with an Airbnb booking. We were met with a smile and very warm welcome from Victoria who then directed us to Mark the manager. He found a perfect room for us and our dog and then continued to offer a discounted rate as we hadn't booked through any of the big agents. The room was spacious and tastefully decorated and we then went on to have a wonderful dinner with excellent service and delicious food. Mark and his team gave us the best service and experience we can remember and we hope to visit again when an opportunity arises. It is the perfect quintessential pub set in a chocolate box village with stunning views all around. Made me quite proud to be British?!

Table service was very good just met down by the mediocre food eg smoke haddock fishcake cane with a ‘hard’ poached egg, meat alternative burger wasn’t thoroughly cooked through (I know from personal experience not the easiest food to get right but expect a professional kitchen to have this sorted) & deserts where standard. Ambience was okay. Would I go again? Sadly probably not until I heard more positive reviews on the food which is a great shame as was hoping to take my family for Christmas dinner on the 25th 🥲

Food and service were excellent, was a tiny bit chilly and coffee needed to be hotter but no other complaints. Well done to all involved.
