The Atmospheric Railway Inn in Teignbridge

Visited on a Friday evening and as soon as we entered, the feint smell of curry enveloped your nostrils and we knew we were in for a treat. Ordered duck, homemade curry and salt & chilli chicken - all dishes were sublime, tasty, plentiful and 100% homemade. I would recommend this place to everyone and it should 100% be on your food list if you are staying in the area

Went in for a roast and we couldn't ask for more, great food with generous portions. The staff are absolutely lovely and so welcoming, they played with our little one and really took care of us. So child friendly it will be lovely when the play park is open again. Booked to return for mothers day :) To top things off they Cater to vegans and nothing felt like it was to much trouble. Thankyou for a lovely meal.

What a disappointment this was. Under recent new ownership and after a long wait and expecting fantastic Thai food, was met with a very plain dish and certainly wasn't spice as was advertised. The owner came rushing over and was very rude to us. It was very embarrassing as she raised her voice to us and took our unfinished plates away We paid in full, even though our food was taken away and left...

Wonderful evening, super attentive front of house, amazing food, I had the aromatic duck which was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. The chef came out as we were about to leave which was great to be able to tell her directly how impressed we were. Definitely will come back and well worth a visit. Please make sure you book!

Went with friends for the first time in 2 years, my what a difference, the food was amazing, I had the chicken curry and salt and chilli pepper chips, absolutely delicious 😋. Can’t wait to go back with my husband, who unfortunately was poorly this evening, and couldn’t make it.

Under new amazing friendly management! We chose from the Chinese menu. Everything was freshly cooked and was so tasty. Service was great and very friendly. Will definitely return. An asset for the village.

January 2025. Thought we'd try the local pub as there are new tenants running it now so booked for a table of 7 for Sunday lunch. We have eaten Sunday lunches here before under the old tenants and hope it would be as good with local produce. Service and atmosphere was lovely and we were made to feel very welcome however the Sunday roast quality was not what it used to be I'm afraid. We were told (no menu offered) we had a choice of gammon or chicken the chicken being on the bone. A large meal came with both meats and a yorkshire and the small was either meat but no yorkshire. The portion size for the large was not that large, the roast chicken was a small thigh and the gammon was 3 small slices of meat and the yorkshire pudding looked like a small aunt Bessie's tbf. We had to ask for more veg as the portion size was not that big as did we need to ask for more roast potatoes and gravy. It was all cooked well and hot but didn't feel it was a patch on the previous Sunday lunches that used to be served. Dessert, we were told (no menu again) we had a choice of three which were local ice creams, banana fritters or eaton mess, again not a great selection but nice never the less. Would we have a Sunday roast there again 🤔 probably not, would go for a pint or two as there was a good atmosphere and a pleasant service but the food didn't make us feel we'd be back.

Under new management and have eaten there several times during weekdays, evenings and Saturdays. Every time the food has been fabulous, well portioned and delicious with great service. The food takes a bit of time because it's all fresh to order but that's fine by us because of the quality. The pub seems warmer and cleaner, they've added a book library so what's not to love? Becoming a firm favourite.

Under New management, came for roast today. Unfortunately the price had gone up and the meal has dropped drastically in size and quality. The small meal was more like you would give to a toddler. Such a shame we have taken many friends and family for a roast but sorry no more.

Gem of a pub, fabulous roast dinner, best gravy and roast potatoes. The staff are absolutely lovely and so welcoming. Highly recommend.

Lovely Sunday lunch, very generous servings, plenty of choice of veg and lovely staff, I would highly recommend the Sunday Lunch after a walk along the coastal path.

Very friendly and welcoming pub! We had a delicious Sunday roast served with a lovely veg selection following by the most gorgeous baileys rice pudding. Great location and easy to get to from Exeter on the train. Very reasonably priced as well - value for money! Hope to return very soon.

Called in for the Friday 2 for £25 fish & chip night, added a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc for £18, great meal and nice wine. Nice and friendly staff.

Stopped off too late for food. But they did offer to see if they could make us a sandwich. We stayed for a drink . The lady behind the bar was really lovely and friendly. We felt so welcome.

proper English pub with good food

I visited with 30+ friends for a BBQ lunch, however there was a signifcant issue with the BBQ, but we were admirably catered for via the kitchen's grill. The food was great and well presented in the function room, just in case the weather turned bad. It didn't and so we enjoyed the meal and several rounds of drinks in the lovely beer garden before moving on. Thanks for your hospitality.

We popped over from Brixham to see our good friend, the lovely lady lady, Claire. We worked together quite a few years ago, and my partner worked with her even further back. The food was outstanding, a busy evening, being Fish Friday. It was so lovely to see a local pub buzzing, the stunning garden busy too. Food cooked to perfection, we will be back again . First time here probably be the last as long wait for food even though very quiet at the time . We ordered a beer and tonic water a ploughman's lunch and fish and chips. The only extra I asked waitress/bar lady for was some extra butter but pats were so hard left them as could not spread them . The bill was £42...when checked the bill as I left realised that was excessive so went back and queried it and had been charged £22 for fish and chips...so error was corrected and refund given...but in the car park opposite an elderly man came up to us with his receipt complaining about it and he had been charged for Fish of the day instead of fish and chips and he was upset but didn't take it further as we drove off. So those errors mean we won't try there again.

Lovely staff, so friendly and helpful. This was our second visit for lunch and we will be regulars now as we live locally. Great food and extremely reasonable prices.

Great to find a pub that is reasonably priced, but offers great food and a lovely atmosphere. We went with friends and all of us were very impressed. Look forward to our next visit.

Went here for a family meal,on our last night of our holiday the food/drinks were amazing,the hospitality is second to none,accommodated a table of 9 at the last minute,will definitely return again.Highly recommend

Had a Sunday roast, arrived hot and lovely. I like my potatoes crispy which these were to a degree but personally I would have liked them more so if they had another 5 mins in the oven. Quality of meat was great- turkey was tender. Cheesey leeks were beautiful however Swede was a little tasteless. For value and overall quality - it was definitely worth the visit and worth returning

Absolutely fantastic. Despite the pub being very busy, we had 8 fantastic Sunday lunches and puddings.

Went in today for food at 2:10pm to see two people chatting behind the bar for one to suddenly disappear. We asked if we were there for food. The lady in the bar went to check, to then be told that the kitchen was closed and the person that she was talking to was the chef. Why advertise that you do food until three o'clock for your chef to be stood around chatting to then suddenly disappear at 10 minutes past two when local people just walk in. Though I do feel sorry for the lady behind the bar because she looked like she was about to cry when she told.

Omg this place is a little gem stopped off for a bite to eat I had the best burger I’ve ever had it was to die for!! With beautifully cooked chips and coleslaw hubby had gammon which he too said was blooming delicious will definitely be back next time we’re in Devon to try the fish and chips and the Sunday lunch also very friendly staff and locals and dog friendly just perfect 🤗

We are here recently and it was so good I had to leave a review . All 4 of us really enjoyed our meals , I had the chicken supreme and the buttery mash was to die for . We have heard that the roast dinner here is also good so we will be heading back soon .

We called here on our way to Exeter, our first visit. What a find! Lovely roast lunch with perfectly cooked vegetables and yummy desserts. Good choice of draught beer and cider. The service was extremely friendly and efficient.

Lovely pub - great, friendly welcome. Had the Saturday Curry Special and a bottle of Argentinian Malbec both excellent 🙂 If I was being picky, the Thai Curry could have been a bit stronger in flavour but that's minor. But, wonderfully presented, just the right quantity and fantastic value for money. Loos modern and clean. I will definitely come back when I'm here again in July and I recommend it for any other visitors - you won't be disappointed 😃

Maybe update yours opening hours..? We walked 45 minutes to come for some lunch and your doors were locked…12:45 we got there and it says open at 12:00 ?? Anybody venturing there make sure there is somebody there first ! We won’t bother again 👎🏻

Excellent little pub right on the coastal path / cycleway and right opposite the station. Very friendly welcome, excellent good value lunch (with a wide variety of vegetarian food) washed down with an excellent pint of Jail Ale!

Went last Sunday for the Xmas dinner with a group of friends. Excellent value for money & food was delicious. All vegetables served separately which I prefer.From start to finish could not fault it. We were not given a time limit either to leave the table for another booking. Having tried the Xmas dinner at Gorden Ramsey in Battersea the Atmospheric wins hands down on taste price & service. Would definitely recommend this pub & will be back.

Local village pub, newish landlords who are finally making it a go to pub, especially midweek themes. Charity quiz nights and tonight music bingo(who knew) well attended and booked for the next one. Reasonably priced good food and made to feel welcome.

Myself and some friends went to this pub last night and had a fantastic meal. We were very lucky to find that last night was their monthly curry night. The curry was brilliant and very well cooked. It came with two courses, poppadoms and homemade onion bhajis plus dips. We then had the main curries which were delicious. The whole experience from the friendly, helpful staff to the food itself has made us want to return for another meal.

I dined here on Saturday night with my husband and we had their two-course curry special. The experience was fantastic! The curry was delicious and well-prepared, and the two-courses were a great deal. The staff were attentive, friendly, and made the evening even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this place for a delightful dining experience. We will definitely be returning for the next curry night on the first Saturday of each month!

Great local pub for food and drink

Visited 3 times while on holiday in September really good meals on all occasions. Pie night, Sunday lunch, wanted the curry night but a mix up on social media meant it was not available, never mind always next year. 5 stars

Arrived for an impromptu Sunday lunch without a booking at opening time (12) and took one of last 2 available tables. Other spare table was gone 5 minutes later. Had a lovely Sunday roast with delicious vegetables served separately to allow mixing and matching. Personally chose the vegetarian mushroom and blue cheese parcels and couldn't fault them - and what I stole of others' meat options were very good. Service was great and friendly and chatty. Child loved the simple but well built swing/slide out the back.

Had a fantastic evening at The Atmospheric with new friends. After arriving in Starcross much later than I'd expected I was invited to have a meal and join the quiz for the extremely amazing price of £10!! A gorgeously tasty burger with salad which went down extremely well after a day of travelling and then joining in with the quiz made it such a lovely evening, I totally felt like one of the 'family!!' The usual menu is really varied and supplied by local suppliers. There is '2for' nights with pizzas and pie nights. Very friendly and welcoming staff and atmosphere... especially on quiz nights!!

Great little pud dog friendly good selection behind the bar and the food was really good. Beer garden is great and it had a little play are too. Well worth a visit

A great venue, very friendly, helpful staff, good choice of drinks and chilled atmosphere. Dog friendly pub with a "dog bar" offering treats, bowls and water. Garden area with play-park for kids. Would thoroughly recommend and will certainly be returning ourselves. Car park opposite means this pub certainly has it all. Didn't try the food but will next time, based on great experience 10/10

Ate here a couple of times and the food was absolutely amazing. The staff here are so helpful and attentive, nothing was too much trouble. My brother and sister-in-law also had their wedding reception here and a fabulous day was had by all. Keep up the hard work Claire and Donna and thank you for looking after us all so well!

Had a `few days away in Starcross, this pub was the closest. On the Thursday popped in for dinner, it was special burger night, so we both had the pulled beef burger. It was fantastic. So we went back on Sunday for a roast with friends, again the food was fantastic. Both visits the service was prompt and friendly, we felt nothing was too mush trouble. The pub was clean, food great and service / staff second to none.

Everything was good. The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was decent pub food, everything was clean. We had a nice window seat but a customer had parked their pick up right outside so view was not great. Gave the feeling that staff really making an effort!

Came here tonight for a friend's Xmas party and it was fantastic! The bar staff are polite and friendly and the owners great people with a great dog, too! Not tried the food yet but after tonight I sure will! Thanks to all at the atmospheric!
