The Castle Inn Restaurant & Pub Holcombe in Teignbridge

Disappointing visit. We had received a recommendation to have a meal in this pub, but upon arrival it clearly stated that dogs were not welcome "due to food hygiene reasons". This must be one of the very few places in Devon where dogs are not allowed - not even Guide or Assistance dogs (which mine is). Sadly, we left.

We had a great evening, food was very nice, great selection of drinks Book in advance

Stopped in for roast dinner lunch with our car club. Fantastic host food was lovely and service very prompt will definitely be going again.

Popped in for a pint in the covered garden, lucky it was pouring with rain.

An absolutely great pub in the heart of the lovely village of Holcombe just on the edge of Teignmouth. Great Atmosphere. Good Service and nice menu. A true village pub

Lovely old pub in a quiet rural setting, just 3 minutes from the main road. Norma, the delightful landlady, couldn't do enough to make sure we enjoyed our visit. If you like freshly caught seafood (Brixham) then you need to try their menu. We were tempted by everything on the Specials Board but settled for Scallop linguine and the Hake; really tasty, as was the Hunter's Chicken breast. Drinks and coffee but couldn't manage a pud, though we'll definitely make room on a return visit!

We have over the years eaten the odd meal & always enjoyed it. This time I took my friend who was celebrating her 80th we had the Specials, scallops with bacon, samphire with chips & peas. OMG is one way to explain it, so tasty. My friend a 'very' good cook in her own right has been talking about nothing else since, its the one to beat. Staff were also very friendly & kind, a great time out for both of us.

Always a good experience food great and a good choice on the specials board. Atmosphere relaxed and excellent good service. A lovely pub.

This pub is totally dog friendly! You just need to sit outside under the totally covered area, no rain will get you! Friendly staff, amazing food! We stayed a few doors down from pub and we're apprehensive as our cottage provider said "not dog friendly ". Food is fabulous, ate here 4 times during our stay. Thanks Castle Inn x

Lovely little village pub. We visited whilst staying in a holiday cottage in Holcombe. Good reasonably priced freshly cooked food.

I mistimed this, arriving just as they were closing, so couldn't get food. A quick pint, and a chat with the welcoming locals, as I walked through the country lanes of the charming village of Holcombe on my exploration of walks around Teighnmouth.

This is a lovely place to come for great food drink and friendless

Arrived on holiday this pub is 2 minute walk....busy but not loud cosy, very friendly staff and delicious food...had seafood linguine and seafood risotto ...delicious

Fabulous find! A lovely welcoming feel from the minute you walk in to this wonderful traditional pub….and clearly popular amongst locals. My 5 year old son thoroughly enjoyed his cooked ham egg and chips and we had delicious roast beef all of which very reasonable in price. I’m sad I didn’t get the name of our waitress but she was fabulous and a true credit to the pub! Beautiful glass of Merlot too!!! We will definitely be coming back if in Dawlish again. Well done Castle Inn you are fantastic!!!!!!

We have been eating there for over 20 years. One of my favourite pubs in Devon. Great food and atmosphere.

Lovely village pub & atmosphere, staff are brilliant, so helpful & can't do enough to make your visit just that bit special. We live in the village & can honestly say that we really enjoy the inn & atmosphere. We have booked our wedding reception & look forward to it so much. Well done to Steve, July & all the staff.

Best proper pub locally, but don't tell anyone!!!

Wow, what an amazing place.....small but perfectly formed, the food is off the scale delicious! I asked for recommendations to eat in Torquay on TA...and this was 1 of 2 we have tried so far. I now want to forward the same recommendation to everyone else....its such a real gem. Firstly Trust all the reviews. The menu is very limited.....but don't be put off, what is on there is sublime. Caroline and the owner were the only 2 staff, but with streamlined efficiency they were absolute stars. We had portobello mushroom and goats cheese starters, soooo good we shared both, and chicken supreme, and chilli beef from specials board....again sharing just to taste the gorgeous dishes. I haven't eaten such tasty dishes since I can't remember. All for under fifty pounds with wine...Wow! Thanks for the recommendation, and nice to meet lovely Caroline.

What an amazing place this is! Lovely warm friendly service, clean and very welcoming. The food was utterly delicious and next time we are on holiday we will definitely be booking up!. Can’t recommend this place enough !!

We had walked around the great coastal walk to this pub at the top of the hill, looking forward to food and drink when we got there. We arrived a little early before opening time at 6pm but a lovely lady, now know her name is Norma, let us 10 mins before and even allowed us a drink and to browse the menu before opening time. What a lovely welcome. The food was lovely and good choice of drinks and beers, a cosy atmosphere thoroughly recommend this pub

Lovely meal in charming village pub.

Went for Sunday lunch and what a surprise lovely ambience great food which was served with a nice waitress who was chatty and funny. We all went for the Sunday roast mostly beef and Lamb. Good portions and well cooked nice veg and plenty of sauces which you didn't have to ask for as it came with the food. W e will be returning in the near future well recommend this pub.

Stayed in a cottage in Holcombe for a week and ate here most evenings. The food was excellent and the service great. They really made us feel at home. We had our dog with us and although dogs arent allowed inside we sat outside each evening. The outside area is covered and comfortable and our dog was offered treats each time. We will certainly return if we stop in the area again 👍

Visited this lovely pub during a family weekend in Dawlish. Traditional Pub with a great atmosphere, friendly staff. We had food while we were there, and it was excellent. 3 Sunday roasts and one Crab salad, along with treacle and walnut tart... all delicious. The staff put themselves out to make our visit to the pub very enjoyable. I would recommend The Castle Inn as a great pub with excellent food.

Top notch food, atmosphere and service. Polite customers complement excellent service. Would recommend this place for those who like a understated establishment. Brilliant x

A great village pub. Good food, good beer and good prices.

Excellent all round. Great service and excellent menu with a great choice for dinner including a nice range of ‘specials’. We had scampi and chips, and ham, egg and chips followed by strawberry pavlova. Outstanding quality food all round.

We'd walked from Dawlish hoping to get a table and were in luck. Very friendly staff and locals and very good food. My hake and salad was delicious and my husband enjoyed his local ham, eggs and chips. As we were on holiday and had expended energy walking to the Castle we treated ourselves to dessert - lovely crumble and very pleased they served it the proper way with custard.

Booked for lunch for three, the premises has the atmosphere of a proper pub. It was really busy and there was a bit of a wait but that counts for nothing against the service and quality of the food. Roast lamb and Pavlova. And reasonably priced. Loved it

Four of us had an excellent Sunday roast here, two had beef and two had nut roast, which had its own veggie gravy. The food was just great and so was the waitress who was just lovely. Will definitely be back!

What a find! A real hidden gem and the food was fabulous. What really made it though was the cleanliness of the whole pub, the friendly service and attention to detail. Perfect!

Average , pricey pub food , limited choice and then spoilt further be extremely rude staff member, when paying shoved the card machine in my face , no acknowledge or thank you just more concerned with the locals

First time visiting The Castle - very impressed. The food was delicious, the staff very friendly and welcoming. Parking was easy. Would definitely recommend.

Friendly, traditional pub has a lovely atmosphere and excellent service. Delicious food and huge portions, especially if you enjoy fish dishes. The treacle and walnut tart was accompanied with the nicest homemade custard, it was devine. Will definitely be visiting again on a sunnier day to dine alfresco.

Found this place by accident and stopped for lunch. It’s off the beaten track so not obvious for visitors. Had a really lovely meal - great quality and lovely large portion. Mine came with peas which I don’t like, so they swapped it for a really beautiful dressed salad. Service was excellent - super friendly staff, and just a general feeling of calm. Would definitely recommend

Allowed an aggressive dog to be seated in the outdoor area, we couldn't be served by the staff - however, the outdoor area and ethos was very nice.

Good food, great staff, lovely to visit anytime of year

Booked in a few days ahead and were delighted with the choice. It was a quiet night in early October., just a few diners so the service was very quick. Prawns in a lovely sauce with a side salad for starters, delicious. Main dish was seafood linguini which was superb, best I've had for many a year. It came with scrummy scallops and prawns with a delicate creamy sauce. Desserts were of the same high standard. Put this pub restaurant on your list, you won't be disappointed 😀.

After looking at several restaurants around Dawlish which were all full we found The Castle almost by chance. What a great find it was. The Host was extremely welcoming and the food was different but great. Plenty of room and no problems with social distancing.

Had been signposted to this pub from B&B where we were staying. What a great pub. Friendly attentive staff, good beer and delicious food. We hadn't booked the first time we went but were made to feel welcome. The seafood linguine was superb, full of fish well cooked and attractively served. We visited again a few days later (booked this time) and it was obvious how popular this place is. There were no empty tables and outside area was full too. This time I chose prawn and avocado salad,also delicious, fresh and plentiful. The menu is not vast, but specials are available, however I would say, limiting the menu enhances the quality of food being served. The dessert menu was good too, I sampled the pavlova and profiteroles ( not on same visit!) and enjoyed both. If you're looking for good food in a country pub, well worth a visit.

Great food fantastic friendly service .Very cozy pub off the beaten track does delicious seafood dishes without the ridiculous price tag .I ate scallops and my wife had hake cooked to perfection and lovely desserts to finish ,if you're in Devon don't miss this gem...

Such lovely pub. Felt v welcome and they accommodated us for food without a booking. Relaxed atmosphere. Generous food potions . Absolutely perfectly cooked and served with a smile. Prices fair and reasonable for what you get.

What a fantastic village pub. Everyone was so friendly, it was like going back in time when pubs were a social hub and more importantly a place where you don't have be be alone. Great Beers and although we didn't eat, the food reputation is also great. Keep up the good work😀
