Excellent Sunday carvery despite the pub being very busy. The bar lady was exceptionally lovely especially to our kids, again even though she was rushed off her feet. Really great Sunday lunch experience.

Poor is the only thing I will say , the venison came out overdone and dry, the kids Mac n cheese salty and again dry no sauce at all ! When we explained our issues to the manager he had the cheek to argue with us! Horrible service from the management this place is going downhill fast ! Drove a hour to visit this Resturant and won’t be returning !

We have always loved the old inn, it is one of our favourite pubs. However, it had lost some of it's appeal recently, but I'm pleased to say Micheal and Shane have really brought it back to life. It is vibrant, friendly, great food and such a happy atmosphere. Can't wait for some sunny days in the beer garden, especially now there will be birds again. It has always been my favourite beer garden.

Battered fish and chips excellent. The mussels were cooked just right but far too much pepper in the cream sauce. The ice cream was disappointing with only one scoop but tasted very good but I didn't expect it to be served in a plain thick glass cup. I would have given it five starsall round but for the glitches that can easily be put right. Thanks for what was an enjoyable experience.

Got the recommendation to go here from a local friend who sent me a Facebook link to the new menu launched this week. It did not disappoint. We had full ribs and steak with peppercorn sauce and homemade onion rings. Food was super tasty and very reasonably priced. Staff so lovely and friendly. We will definitely be back and will let others know too. I think this is my now one of my favourite places to eat at.

We visited The Old Inn in Widecombe three times during our holiday—not just because there aren’t many other choices, but because it was genuinely great from start to finish. We have to admit, we weren’t expecting much at first. Many places in the area still have quite old-fashioned menus, serving peas with everything, and we usually avoid places when we see that in photos. However, we decided to give it a try and simply ordered without peas. When the food arrived, we were really happy. The pie was amazing—packed with meat, yet still juicy and tender. The scampi was fantastic too, and the desserts were just as good. We enjoyed it so much that we came back twice more. We also tried the Rugglestone Inn in between, but the food wasn’t as good, and the lady at the front was very rude. Back to The Old Inn—it has a mix of an old section, a newer part, and a conservatory, plus free parking for guests at the back. The staff were really welcoming, which made all the difference. The food did take a while to arrive, but that’s understandable, especially in the off-season when there might be a staff shortage. Overall, a great experience, and we’ll definitely return if we’re in the area again.

Was very busy here had a bad experience. the starter was going 2 come out same time as mains we told them not to so they put the mains under hot lights. We ended up with warm salad and warm coleslaw and colder chips than the salad & slaw however the barman was very accommodating and offered us money off the bill the only reason we ate it was we were hungry and didn't want to wait 40 mins or more. But we have had ok meals there before

Whilst turning up without booking, we entered a characterful village, and parked over from the pub in the village carpark (£2 honest box). A short cold walk over we entered the pub which felt cozy and seemed clean and friendly. Welcoming staff, with good pub banter made us feel right at home in their pub. Went to the toilets, which were immaculately clean, smelling good, and surprisingly had hot and cold taps, and smooth music, what more could you want...everything was thought of. After sitting down for a drink first, badger ales, and coke, we poured over the generous menu, with a great range of foods and reasonable prices for 2025. I picked the 3 sausages and mash, chips and garlic bread, whilst my friend (veggie) chose the classic pizza. With a reasonable wait time, we were served piping hot food, that tasted great. Character of the pub, and new editions were complimentary to the older parts and there seemed nothing that wasnt thought about with cookies and cake on the bar counter, and friendly thoughtful staff, that made sure we were looked after. I would recommend to anyone visiting the moors, to pop in and they should feel very happy that they did. Congrats to the whole team.

Popped in to the Old Inn for a pizza as they currently offer 2 for £20 on a Thursday. Pizzas were really good, we both love a thin base and they were generous with toppings. Shame they don't offer a spicy option or chilli oil to pep your pizzas up!! We were served by Ethan who was friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. I like the decor changes new owners have made, brightens the place up. A nice atmosphere for a chilly Thursday night, a lit fire would have been nice. See you soon 👍

Another lovely carvery on Sunday! Our 4th visit in a few months. We travel from North Devon to visit because the carvery food is so tasty! There was a new lady on shift, it was her first day and she was great, really bubbly and easy going. We ate inside and then took our drinks to the garden to enjoy the sun, can't wait to visit again soon.

We have visited many times. However, our most recent visit was disappointing. Firstly, one of our favorites – the Widdecombe cheese pot – was no longer on the menu, which was a real letdown. The chicken curry was another disappointment; it was lacking in chicken and instead filled with vegetables and cashew nuts, which wasn’t what we expected. On top of that, the portion sizes seem to have decreased, making it feel less like the generous meals we were used to. The biggest issue, however, was the seating arrangement. We were packed into the conservatory, which felt cramped and uncomfortable, taking away from the usually pleasant dining experience. Overall, this visit didn’t live up to past experiences, and we left feeling let down

My first time visiting the Old Inn and will not be the last. This pub is nestled in the village and the atmosphere is simply classic Dartmoor village pub. The smells, the welcome and the menu was cool. It was “Burger Night” and went with one of their burgers. My partner is not a big eater and they accommodated her request with a smile. The burger tasted homemade and fresh along with it being tasty. I am not a sweet tooth desert person but…the black vanilla ice cream cream Afogato sounded interesting and I am so glad I ordered it. Add this to your must eat places. Great staff too. See you Friday :D

I've been going here for years and always enjoyed it in the pub. The last few years were disappointing as they changed hands, the food went down hill so we all stopped going. I was so happy to see it has just changed hands again and couldn't wait to go again for my sisters birthday... Firstly we had one extra person, the owner got in a mood and yanked the table to open it further - some of us had drinks on the table and the children jumped. Where do I start we waited an hour and 15 mins for our food. I was so happy they did a jacket potatoes, so I ordered a jacket potatoes as I wanted to eat healthy and checked out the menu before we booked. My husband ordered a steak with a jacket potatoe. About an hour before it arrived the owner came to our table to say I can't have a jacket potato they don't do them on a Saturday as it's too busy. I went through the menu they didn't have anything I liked which was heathly, I was absolutely gutted (through trying to order the owner was very rude rolling his eyes tuting and tapping on his clipboard and extremely moody.) Well my husband’s food came out with a jacket potato on his plate…. The owner couldn’t explain why I could have one when we questioned him, he was just so rude and very argumentative. My husband offered to put the jacket potatoe on my plate but the owner was watching us and we felt if he had of done it the owner would have taken it further (it wasn’t worth it as he’d already upset my sisters bday meal.) Please see my pictures- The owner said couldn’t do a jacket potatoes with egg mayo 🤦♀️ If it wasn’t for the owner and his very poor attitude the pub would be lovely. All the other staff were lovely ☺️

2 people serving in the bar, no table service. The short guy serving was drinking beer, whist the other guy with long hair was clueless, probably new to the job. 60 minutes wait for the food, when food came ( 2 roasts + 1 side of cauliflower , 1 kids chicken nuggets and 1 kids roast) it was a complete disaster. - burnt cauliflower - burnt Yorkshire pudding (1 missing, but couldn’t even complain as the bar was full of people waiting to be served) - vegetables tasteless (tasted like water!!) - roast potatoes were hard, as way too crispy. - to end things we even went for coffee, and guess what? Long wait and cold coffee - could we complain? Again, bar packed with people so we just wasted some more money Absolutely joke the premium price we paid for the service and quality of food. Nearly forgot to say that I had to move our plates to the table next to us as no one came around to clear it Not coming back, and do not recommend. £23 for a tasteless roast plus appealing service!!!

Vege/vegan Sunday roast £19, same price as the gammon and turkey option, but a much diminished plate of food, missing the Yorkshire puddings and parsnips that came with the meat options. We did get a handful of cold pea sprouts to fill the plate up, 4 spouts , a spoonful of boiled carrots and a spoonful of something, I don't know what. Many other pubs manage to provide a good vegetarian option without charging so much for less food. Very disappointing, especially for the high price. No effort taken. Wouldn't recommend.

We've been in every month once or twice for a few years, but this week it was different.. not as friendly, the chips seemed to be more 'wetherspoons' and greasier than they used to be, the chicken was dry, small and sad looking and the pulled pork was in weird mince and cubes? Not to the usual standard, I'm glad when I took my family here in October this wasn't the experience we had, if it had been our first visit I expect the rugglestone would've ended up being our semi-regular instead! The only thing that was different but improved was the calamari, which had a nice crispy batter. Nice lemon oil on the side salad. We'll try it again I expect,.and hope that it was just an off night, as I'm going to miss walking straight from Hameldown to the pub, if this is the direction it's going..

Now under new management (moved in just over a week ago), but with the same Badger beer tenancy. Kind staff. Some thought that the chicken dish (not the pie) was a little 'stringy' due to the combination of microwave and oven cookery involved. Some crockery did not match the dish it was on as well. These are minor startup teething issues. However, the greatest disappointment was the absence of Dartmoor beer on tap. Surely, an Inn based right in Dartmoor should sell its eponymous beer to locals and visitors alike? But no! The brewery has refused point-blank to allow the tenants to sell this local beer, insisting that ONLY Badger beer (good quality) is available. This is unacceptable, petty, and done purely as a 'greedflation' exercise by a brewery that clearly cares not a jot about the local Dartmoor community and its visitors. Do not expect local traditions and cultures to be upheld by this brewery, which hasn't changed since the last tenants were here! For that reason alone we cannot give it 5 stars.

A very large country pub that lacked atmosphere, probably due to the time of day and lack of customers (14:30). Limited awful range of ciders. To drive in the villages double nightmare because roads are so narrow that only one and a half car can go through. Second of all you arrive to the pub and you need to pay parking 2 pounds. The place is nice and food was good 😊

On a cold and rainy day a stop here was amazing. Warm and relaxing atmosphere with super service from the waitresses. A brilliant range of dishes so much to choose from. I eventually chose a vegetarian pie. It was superb. Highly recommended if you are near do call in. Thank you so much.

We visited on a strangely quiet sunny Saturday on the early May bank holiday weekend, expecting it to be packed out as it's always been when we decide to eat there, but it was almost empty. It did fill up a bit before we left but nothing like mid-summer. The atmosphere was lovely if you like a little quiet so you can chat and eat in peace. We picked a table and brilliantly had full table service, very quick and efficient with drinks in minutes and the main courses once ordered arrived in about 5 minutes! I had a fish and chip urge and very glad I did as it was one of the better I've had anywhere, certainly among the top 2-3 of all time. The fish was beautifully fresh and cooked spot on, batter crispy and not greasy. The chips had a little crunch on the outside but soft in the middle and not dried out, just cooked very very well. If you can get in there, difficult in summer, it's a great place for a meal or just a good drink.

Lovely pub, buzzing with atmosphere. Excellent staff, very polite and helpful. Food great and despite being very busy, not a long wait after ordering.

We had lunch at The Old Inn today, and I can only say what a lovely place. The staff are friendly and well trained. We both had the Ploughman's and can honestly say it was the best we have had for a long time and we will be back.

We went for Mothers day as we have many times in the past. When we arrived the table wasn’t laid, we had to ask for the chips underneath the table to be cleared up. We had to ask for more cutlery, spoons for soup, salt and pepper etc Food was ok but not as good as normal. The room we were in was sticky, dirty and we all came away very disappointed. Female toilets were filthy, bin overflowing, no toilet roll and dirty basin. This is our local but unfortunately I don’t think we will eat there again. I think the problem was that it was Mother’s Day and busy. Only very young, inexperienced staff around and way too many customers booked in.

Was surprised when ordering cod and chips the skin was left on, batter was soggy under the top batter which made the skin slimy not nice or pleasant at all. Chips were hard and dry. Not for us for regular Teignmouth visitors.

Great atmosphere for a beer and to eat your fish and chips from Mr Chips next door. They even have cutlery and condiments. Dog and child friendly.
