George and Tim (staff) were absolutely first class, couldn't fault them and both were entertaining too. Great selection of drinks on tap and the food was delicious. The chef seemed pleased when I let him know :). Looking for an excuse to come back. 10/10

Every now and again we pop to Widecombe as we live too far away. It's a beautiful picturesque village in the heart of Dartmoor and at the centre, is the wonderful Old Inn. Food and service are both excellent and having walked through the restaurant this Sunday, I now realise I have to go back and try the carvery. Well worth a visit.

Been to The Old Inn on a number of occassions under the previous managment and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere , food and level of service . Sadly will not be going again as on this occassion under the new managment the food was not as good and the service was very disappointing , more like a visit to a Toby Inn for a serve yourself Carvery and then being told I had ordered a Desert totally different to what I had ordered and pretty much forced to accept it by a member of staff , which was very difficult to refuse as the bill had already been settled . Sorry but an honest review of a once very nice place to have a Sunday lunch that has now lost its spark ,... Edit addition in reply. Unfortunately the owners response has been exactly as expected , see below , We originally ordered the sticky toffee pudding but asked to change it to a chocolate brownie as my dining partner doesn't like fruit in the pudding , I personally asked at the bar if this could be changed to a chocolate Brownie with custard and what appeared was a lemon posset that had never been mentioned to which the member of staff insisted I had . No Chocolate brownie had appeared at the table at any stage so after a denial from myself the member of staff responded that I had in fact ordered this Lemon Posset desert that neither myself or my dining friend had ever even heard of , I feel like I had been accused of lying which I totally reject and this has made me want to reinforce to future customers that my review is in fact an honest review of a Sunday lunch that had fallen short especially because that if we had been informed that the lunch was going to be carvery style then we certainly would have cancelled and gone elsewhere , we were only made aware it was a carvery set up on arrival and was told this was because they were short staffed , a complete farce .

A wonderful way to spend a bank holiday - VE day celebrations. We had the loveliest meal (burger, ribs, pizza for the kids) and then went outside and joined in some folk dancing! The food is seriously good - top quality for standard pub prices. The atmosphere is friendly and homely, but with very competent staff and attention to detail. If only we loved closer we would be here all the time!

Had a very nice lunch here on Bank Holiday Monday. The atmosphere was cosy country pub, just what we were after. Front of house were extremely welcoming and couldnt fault the service. Was great to see how busy it was. We arrived at a good time. If wanting to ensure a table you need to book. Highly recommend the pub and the rack of ribs. Beautifully cooked and fell off the bone. Live music in the garden and folk dancing. The most gorgeous beer garden with outdoor food cabin and bar. Blankets on offer for a chilly afternoon and the Ducks and Chickens were great. Roaming round the garden and clucking made a great atmosphere in the afternoon. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Old Inn was a fantastic pub - the service was brilliant and the atmosphere was lovely. We went for a carvery and I can honestly say that it was the best carvery we have had - all the components were delicious and it was incredibly reasonably priced. The desserts were also delicious- particularly the cheesecake and Eton mess.

We shared a Seafood platter, consisting of anchovies and mussels, battered goujons and the most divine mackerel pate...with big hunks of seeded bread....it was enough for 2 and we did not leave anything ! We also had delicious desserts and I had a pint of their own Stout which went down a treat. We plan to go again in the autumn it really was a special treat.

Our first visit to the Old Inn, and well worth the rainy drive!! The food was outstanding (calamari, fish pie for me and a burger for my other half). It arrived freshly cooked and piping hot, and tasted incredible. Our server was brand new, just started that day, and she was the perfect level of attentive and chatty. Can’t wait to go back on a sunnier and warmer day so we can enjoy the views and the village of Widecombe!

My husband and I had lunch here last week. My husband had the turkey curry which wasn't great. Lots of meat ( no veg) coated in a curry sauce which tasted like it had been emptied out of a tin. I had the vegan burger which was very wet and soggy. On the plus side, all the ingredients in the burger bun with the burger were fresh and the triple cooked chips were great. I had an orange juice and lemonade which was either extremely watered down or instead of using orange juice, orange squash had been used. I only drank a small amount 🙁 The location of the pub and the outside space was lovely. Not sure we would eat there again though.

We visited The Old Inn in Widecombe three times during our holiday—not just because there aren’t many other choices, but because it was genuinely great from start to finish. We have to admit, we weren’t expecting much at first. Many places in the area still have quite old-fashioned menus, serving peas with everything, and we usually avoid places when we see that in photos. However, we decided to give it a try and simply ordered without peas. When the food arrived, we were really happy. The pie was amazing—packed with meat, yet still juicy and tender. The scampi was fantastic too, and the desserts were just as good. We enjoyed it so much that we came back twice more. We also tried the Rugglestone Inn in between, but the food wasn’t as good, and the lady at the front was very rude. Back to The Old Inn—it has a mix of an old section, a newer part, and a conservatory, plus free parking for guests at the back. The staff were really welcoming, which made all the difference. The food did take a while to arrive, but that’s understandable, especially in the off-season when there might be a staff shortage. Overall, a great experience, and we’ll definitely return if we’re in the area again.

Whilst turning up without booking, we entered a characterful village, and parked over from the pub in the village carpark (£2 honest box). A short cold walk over we entered the pub which felt cozy and seemed clean and friendly. Welcoming staff, with good pub banter made us feel right at home in their pub. Went to the toilets, which were immaculately clean, smelling good, and surprisingly had hot and cold taps, and smooth music, what more could you want...everything was thought of. After sitting down for a drink first, badger ales, and coke, we poured over the generous menu, with a great range of foods and reasonable prices for 2025. I picked the 3 sausages and mash, chips and garlic bread, whilst my friend (veggie) chose the classic pizza. With a reasonable wait time, we were served piping hot food, that tasted great. Character of the pub, and new editions were complimentary to the older parts and there seemed nothing that wasnt thought about with cookies and cake on the bar counter, and friendly thoughtful staff, that made sure we were looked after. I would recommend to anyone visiting the moors, to pop in and they should feel very happy that they did. Congrats to the whole team.

We have visited many times. However, our most recent visit was disappointing. Firstly, one of our favorites – the Widdecombe cheese pot – was no longer on the menu, which was a real letdown. The chicken curry was another disappointment; it was lacking in chicken and instead filled with vegetables and cashew nuts, which wasn’t what we expected. On top of that, the portion sizes seem to have decreased, making it feel less like the generous meals we were used to. The biggest issue, however, was the seating arrangement. We were packed into the conservatory, which felt cramped and uncomfortable, taking away from the usually pleasant dining experience. Overall, this visit didn’t live up to past experiences, and we left feeling let down

My first time visiting the Old Inn and will not be the last. This pub is nestled in the village and the atmosphere is simply classic Dartmoor village pub. The smells, the welcome and the menu was cool. It was “Burger Night” and went with one of their burgers. My partner is not a big eater and they accommodated her request with a smile. The burger tasted homemade and fresh along with it being tasty. I am not a sweet tooth desert person but…the black vanilla ice cream cream Afogato sounded interesting and I am so glad I ordered it. I've been going here for years and always enjoyed it in the pub. The last few years were disappointing as they changed hands, the food went down hill so we all stopped going. I was so happy to see it has just changed hands again and couldn't wait to go again for my sisters birthday... Firstly we had one extra person, the owner got in a mood and yanked the table to open it further - some of us had drinks on the table and the children jumped. Where do I start we waited an hour and 15 mins for our food. I was so happy they did a jacket potatoes, so I ordered a jacket potatoes as I wanted to eat healthy and checked out the menu before we booked. My husband ordered a steak with a jacket potatoe. About an hour before it arrived the owner came to our table to say I can't have a jacket potato they don't do them on a Saturday as it's too busy. I went through the menu they didn't have anything I liked which was heathly, I was absolutely gutted (through trying to order the owner was very rude rolling his eyes tuting and tapping on his clipboard and extremely moody.) Well my husband’s food came out with a jacket potato on his plate…. The owner couldn’t explain why I could have one when we questioned him, he was just so rude and very argumentative. My husband offered to put the jacket potatoe on my plate but the owner was watching us and we felt if he had of done it the owner would have taken it further (it wasn’t worth it as he’d already upset my sisters bday meal.) Please see my pictures- The owner said couldn’t do a jacket potatoes with egg mayo 🤦‍♀️ If it wasn’t for the owner and his very poor attitude the pub would be lovely. All the other staff were lovely ☺️

2 people serving in the bar, no table service. The short guy serving was drinking beer, whist the other guy with long hair was clueless, probably new to the job. 60 minutes wait for the food, when food came ( 2 roasts + 1 side of cauliflower , 1 kids chicken nuggets and 1 kids roast) it was a complete disaster. - burnt cauliflower - burnt Yorkshire pudding (1 missing, but couldn’t even complain as the bar was full of people waiting to be served) - vegetables tasteless (tasted like water!!) - roast potatoes were hard, as way too crispy. - to end things we even went for coffee, and guess what? Long wait and cold coffee - could we complain? Again, bar packed with people so we just wasted some more money Absolutely joke the premium price we paid for the service and quality of food. Nearly forgot to say that I had to move our plates to the table next to us as no one came around to clear it Not coming back, and do not recommend. £23 for a tasteless roast plus appealing service!!!

Not to the usual standard, I'm glad when I took my family here in October this wasn't the experience we had, if it had been our first visit I expect the rugglestone would've ended up being our semi-regular instead! The only thing that was different but improved was the calamari, which had a nice crispy batter. Nice lemon oil on the side salad. We'll try it again I expect,.and hope that it was just an off night, as I'm going to miss walking straight from Hameldown to the pub, if this is the direction it's going..

Now under new management (moved in just over a week ago), but with the same Badger beer tenancy. Kind staff. Some thought that the chicken dish (not the pie) was a little 'stringy' due to the combination of microwave and oven cookery involved. Some crockery did not match the dish it was on as well. These are minor startup teething issues. However, the greatest disappointment was the absence of Dartmoor beer on tap. Surely, an Inn based right in Dartmoor should sell its eponymous beer to locals and visitors alike? But no! The brewery has refused point-blank to allow the tenants to sell this local beer, insisting that ONLY Badger beer (good quality) is available. This is unacceptable, petty, and done purely as a 'greedflation' exercise by a brewery that clearly cares not a jot about the local Dartmoor community and its visitors. Do not expect local traditions and cultures to be upheld by this brewery, which hasn't changed since the last tenants were here! For that reason alone we cannot give it 5 stars.

What a wonderful place to stop off on the Moors. This is a very roomy pub/restaurant yet very cozy! I love the 14th century history. The food was great and the local stout, Outland, hit the spot. It made our day on the Moors perfect. Make sure to stop off afterwards to see the church, St. Pancras. I was very impressed with the farmhouse ploughman’s lunch! And the steak and ale pie was very wonderful.

Salmon tasted great. Service is a bit slow. It feels cozy and homely inside. It’s a nice gem in the country.

This pub is amazing! We ate here after a long days hiking. The food was seriously good, exactly what we needed before heading off to the moor to wild camp. We both had a pies, and it was so tasty, and cannot recommend the chips highly enough! A couple of hours later, when the pub was technically closed, they came to our rescue when we had to leave the moor for reasons beyond our control. Fran & Harry were so lovely. From letting us in to use the internet, to putting themselves out to help us secure a taxi, we were so grateful. True heroes for two mature damsels in distress. They deserve all the custom and success in the world, for their kindness alone. Faith in human nature restored. A fabulous old pub, with seriously tasty food and wonderful staff - go there; and quickly!

The Old Inn in Widecombe is very friendly and the food was amazing. We stayed in Widecombe for a week, 7th to 14th September 2024 and visited the old Inn twice doring the week for our evening meal. The pub is lovely, the staff friendly and accomodating and the atmosphere was great. My husband had the steak pie on our first visit and it was delicious. The steak was tender and the chips excellent. It also came with steamed veg which was also excellent. Cooked to perfection. My burger was also excellent and portions are very generous. We decided there and then to visit again during our visit and did so on our final evening. We were not disappointed. This time we chose to sit in the older part of the pub which was cosier but the atmosphere was just as friendly at the main bar and the service and food was once again excellent. I would recommend The Old Inn in Widecombe if you enjoy excellent food and ale and excellent service and atmosphere

Lovely cosy but large pub/restaurant in the village, with a huge beer garden as well. Lovely staff and food alike, we had a Ploughman's and the Fish stew for lunch on Weds 28th August.

Lovely pub, with lots of history. Decorated nicely all throughout the pub. It has a car park and also a public car park near by which you pay for. Nice and cozy bar areas with bigger area out the back. Nice wood burners. Amazing food! Service was fairy quick and didn't have to wait to long for food even though it was busy. Dogs welcome. I would recommend booking a table. Second time we have been here and it didn't disappoint.

Food was very porly done, beef burgers tasted like pork and came rare, sunday roast meat was made of chewing gum and all forms of potatoes were hard yet somehow soggy rather then crispy.

Thank you to the Old Inn. We are not locals but every time we visit, the pub feels homely and clean, also the service is just so warm. I have been gluten free for over 15 years and so my pub meals are invariably steak, gammon or ham and eggs. What a joy to have gluten-free, crispy, battered fish with delicious chips. I know that you have been serving this for years because I have been eating it for years and every time, it is delicious. Please don't change.

Sadly the food was very disappointing. Dry brownie and second rate chips. The chips used to be the best! Also dry fish cakes which sounded so promising. Nice friendly waitress, but we shan’t be back for a while.

Just returned home after a long weekend break at The Old Rydon Inn. The accommodation was first class and having our own dinning room was amazing. I can not fault ANY part of our stay. From the moment when we first arrived and were shown our apartment, to when we departed, the staff were welcoming and attentive. The food was amazing, and having the luxury of it being served at our own dinning table, was fabulous. I can not recommend this establishment too highly to anyone looking to stay in the area.

Had 2 x large cod and chips, mushy peas and curry sauce here on our first night here. £34. The fish was massive and really tasty and the chips were spot on not all soft or dried out. Nice to get a proper hearty portion. Well done friendly staff and great food we will definitely be back. We'll wort the money
