The perfect spot for breakfast, coffee, lunch or dinner when in Shaldon. Service is superb, food offering has good choice, well cooked, reasonably priced. Absolutely love stopping for a coffee and cake on the terrace area overlooking the river. Can’t wait to go back,

Breakfast bap, bacon, like leather, huge sausage the should have been spilt in two rather than stuck on one side, it was tasteless anyway, egg was good! Bap £6.80 £3 for the two extra things. Total £13 with an americano. Not impressed. No mention on their menu or website of the additional cost for the extras, I don't mind paying for them but I think I should be informed before ordering.

The food really was excellent. There are more expensive places to eat but I don’t think you can beat the food here. My daughter had the seafood pasta which was FULL of mussels and large prawns and everyone else’s food was really tasty and good quality too. The service is always good and welcoming. It wasn’t busy but even when it is- the service is great. I really admire whoever owns the Clipper. They could have gone for mediocre and it probably would have done well because of the demand and location- especially in summer- but they went for excellent.i think this means that tourists and locals alike live this place. Defiantly recommend !!!

We had pre booked a table upstairs with a window and a view over the river albeit an evening in February. Our waitress was welcoming, polite and helpful. The cafe was well lit, warm clean and comfortable although being mid week it was fairly quiet. My wife loves prawns and the staff were happy to vary their menu to accommodate her wishes. Our food was promptly served, well presented, well cooked and tasty. Our waitress was attentive but not overly so. We had a lovely evening and will definitely return. Parking outside is limited and the roads narrow so be prepared to use one of the nearby car parks a short walk away.

One of my clipper favourites but it seems they must use cheaper chocolate powder now since the last visit. Today it was not a nice taste and extremely watery and the half a dozen mini marshmallows buried under the cream. (even when I had asked for them to be separate on the side) but worst of all it was cold. Took it back but was told Hot chocolate is never normally that hot !!! I was not offered a remake, this is unusual as they are always very obliging and helpful to customers.Hopefully today was a blip. Will be back again next weekend for our usual cuppa after our Sunday walk.

We were staying in a guest house along the road and stopped in here for a Sunday evening meal. The title of the restaurant is “cafe” but this is misleading. There is a cafe area downstairs and an excellent outdoor seating area overlooking the river but upstairs is where we had our meal. The view we had was overlooking the river and Teignmouth lights at the other side. Lovely unpretentious restaurant space, very friendly staff. I had breaded Brie followed by seafood chowder and we shared a sticky fig pudding with ice cream. Excellent food and we really enjoyed our evening there. This is more than a cafe!Good job, we will be back.

Went here following usual dog walk on Ness Cove; it was a cool day and we were both hungry. We arrived mid-afternoon and had no trouble finding space. The cafe was very clean and tidy and the staff were both welcoming and courteous; within a few minutes we ordered and our meals arrived at the table in timely fashion. The food was well presented and was cooked to perfection. Everything on the menu looked delicious but, as this was my actual birthday, I "pigged-out" and had haddock and chips. It was a lovely meal and I only just managed to do it justice. My wife has been here before but this was my first visit. It won't be my last! The cafe is in a wonderful location being right on the waterfront with a lovely view of Teignmouth directly opposite. There's no wonder it's so popular. Great food, great service and reasonable prices. We'll be back.

Taking advantage of early Autumn sunshine took the opportunity to visit the Teignmouth area and finding parking difficult there crossed the bridge to Sheldon. 're had a look around the town and having checked out several establishments for some thing light chose The Clipper Cafe. There are 3 areas available to sit and eat, a garden outside, the ground floor and the 1st floor which is what wee chose. From there there is a most pleasant view over the river and out to sea, also viewable from the garden. Having ordered and pre paid for 2 crab salalads were settled down to wait. However our order was delivered in very quick time by a friendly waitress and I can say 're very happy with the portion of crab 're were served. The premises seemed clean and well cared for and 're will be happy to go back. I have awarded 4 stars because 're goth had salad and Well would need to have a few more dishes before making a final judgement

Called in here for coffee and cake. We were not acknowledged by the 4 members of staff for at least 5 minutes. They have limited knowledge about gluten free products and are not able to advise confidently. We sat on the upstairs balcony next to the planters which were full of weeds. The decking needs a good scrub as it was absolutely rotten with dirt and the floor downstairs was sticky. Next time we will try the cafe down the street, which looks a lot cleaner, has more choices and friendlier staff.

We've not visited The Clipper for a while and after today unfortunately we won't be returning. We went in for breakfast which is usually very good but what a let down. Both the bacon & the sausages were very baked up, they looked as though they had been pre cooked and left on a hot plate. Once our order was placed service was so fast there is no way it was freshly cooked. The toast was cold as were the plates, & my egg was fried to oblivion. The only thing I enjoyed was my mug of tea. Yes I know it's regatta week and they expect to be busy but overcooked, cold food is no excuse.

We visited this cafe on a day out to Shaldon Zoo. The menu was very extensive so we thought we'd give it a go. There are lovely views at the back of the cafe and it is in a good location. I ordered the Cheddar cheese and Devon chutney sandwich for £6.95 which according to the menu came with a side salad. When my sandwich arrived the side salad consisted of a few leaves and 2 cherry tomatoes which weren't very tasty and considering the price I expected that there would be some other salad on there such as cucumber, onion and pepper. The chutney on the sandwich was also disappointing and I ended up having to scrape it off. In my opinion this cafe is massively overpriced and I certainly won't be visiting again.

It’s a great location if you can get a table on the terrace overlooking the beach. We unfortunately had to sit inside as all the outside spaces were either full, in the Sun, too hot, or under utilised, 2 people sitting at a table for 6 etc. The service was slow, but it was busy and the ladies (yes it was mostly girls/ladies) worked tirelessly to serve everyone. They’re all polite except the lady serving on the till, who looked stressed and arrogant, rolling her eyes with impatience, as if we should all know how the system works and exactly what we want to the letter before we dare to queue up. The system of queuing to give your order to one single person at the till is laborious, and frustrating, maybe part of the slow service problem and too much for one person to handle? The price of the food is not unreasonable based on a normal type restaurant, but this is more like a coffee shop style service and therefore I don’t think the prices are justified. The portion sizes were strange, my daughter asked for kids meal, chicken and chips, with beans, when it arrived it was 3 tiny chicken goujons, you get more at McDs, chips and loads of beans, a bit disappointing for her. My son had ham eggs and chips, again some really basic thin cut ham with 1 egg and loads of chips. It’s was ok, but we didn’t really enjoy our experience and would probably give it a miss in favour of the Strand Cafe a bit further down next time.

Probably one of nicest places in the UK you can have breakfast. We visit The Clipper every two weeks throughout the summer when staying at our holiday home and have done for years. Unfortunately over the last 18 months it seems someone has taken their eye off the ball. The tables are always sticky, the chair cushions look grubby and are uncomfortable and more disappointingly the quality of the food is way under par. How any self respecting chef can serve dried up bacon and overcooked sausages is unbelievable, particularly for the price charged. I think this place is trading on their stunning views and not the quality of their food. I've read some of the other ratings and can only assume they have a different chef for lunchtime/evening service. However always friendly service and good coffee. Unfortunately we have decided to find an alternative venue for our future holiday breakfast!

Lovely setting right next to the sea and really nice, friendly staff. It is handy that it has quite long opening hours, so breakfast, lunch and dinner. We had breakfast here, I had pancakes, bacon and maple syrup and my wife had smashed avocado on toast with bacon, with a latte and a lot of tea. Mine was tasty, although £ for what it was, and I would have preferred streaky to back bacon. My wife had 1 piece of toast smothered in avocado, it would have been nicer over two pieces of toast and with 2 pieces of bacon rather than just piece of streaky, plus the avocado cod have been flavoured more with lime and chilli. It filled a hole, but I don't think we'll go back for food, but maybe coffee and a piece of cake (the cakes looked good). Our breakfast cost £19 all in, and we thought £ for what it was.

Turned up at just after 10am on a warm (but a bit cloudy) Sunday – managed to get the last table inside and joined the queue at the counter to order with the feeling we may be in for a long wait.To my surprise our two breakfasts (one with extra bits) arrived within 10 minutes – very impressed, slight issue that we were both lacking bacon but quickly rectified.Well-cooked breakfasts, I would say slightly expensive if taking into account the quality of the sausages as they were on the cheaper side. No complaints and top marks for the speed of service.Dog friendly inside (we had our dog) but if your dog doesn't like busy environments best not to bring them - we had the table at the end of the counter which was in a little alcove so perfect but other tables are quite exposed.

A group of 4 of us decided to have lunch there on Sunday as we had a friend visiting and we know the views at the clipper are stunning. It was not overly busy and there seemed to be plenty of staff around. We chose one of the “cleanest” tables we could find and moved the previous occupant’s dishes, dirty napkins and glasses to one side and occupied the opposite end of the table. We all ordered food and drinks which seemed to take a long time – during which nobody had cleared our table despite many staff members walking up & down past the pile of used plates etc.I ordered fish & chips – why not seeing as we live by the sea!!! Thinking this would be freshly homemade ( as it is in The Ship over in Teignmouth) well this is where the disappointment began!!Anaemic, limp fish arrived with a few frozen chips and rock hard cold peas. I had also ordered a side order of onion rings and was presented with 5 small frozen rings that cost £3. On comparison with all the other meals we ordered all were just as disappointing apart from the salad which obviously didn’t require any cooking skills whatsoever!!!Halfway through the meal a waitress finally cleared the end of the table of the used plates, she accidentally dropped a glass bottle which went everywhere including all over the dog. Glass hit me on the head and several shards landed in my hair and all over my lunch – I pointed this out and was just told “sorry” and she walked off. At this point with our “Basil Fawlty” experience just getting worse we decided to leave and on the way out mention all of this to a manager. Do you think one could be located??? We simply just lest at this point as we needed to get the ferry back over to Teignmouth.I paid £19 for lunch and a drink and I can honestly say that I will never return to this venue, I would not recommend it to others as we are so spoilt for choice for good food in and around Shaldon & Teignmouth. It would appear that the location far exceeds the dining experience which is a real shame.

I've visited The Clipper Cafe dozens of times over the past few years and it is a lovely place. The food is good, but it's just at cafe level, so don't expect gourmet food. Over the years I have tried the breakfast, burger and fish and chips. On this occasion two of the party found quite a few bones in the fish and chips, so just be careful. The cafe can become very busy during the summer and it can be frequented by lots of noisy children, so if that is not your thing, you might want to try the quieter Strand Cafe, further down the road. It has lovely views and plenty of comfortable seating. It is open from first thing in the morning, to last thing at night. It is a great place to spend just a few hours chilling and watching the world go by! The staff are really friendly and I can highly recommened this cafe for a coffee, breakfast, lunch or a snack!

Popped in for breakfast whilst waiting on my car having its MOT in a local garage. I spotted the scrambled egg on the menu and that was me sold, as a Scrambled egg and bacon man that’s what I ordered. I waited quite a while considering my order and thought it a bit odd that a guy behind me in the queue actually got his full English before me. When my food finally arrived , well disappointed was an understatement. First I congratulate you on actually using a pan to cook the eggs and not a microwave but I’m sorry to say the egg had caught on the bottom of the pan and actually had black bits in it, because of this it tasted burnt.Surely the chef/cook knew this but still sent it out hoping that some dopey tourist wouldn’t notice but unfortunately as a local person and a trained chef of over 30 years and I would never serve anything I wouldn’t eat myself, I didn’t complain as having waited so long for something so simple I didn’t have time. Having heard previous good reports on the Clipper unfortunately I was very disappointed.

The only problem it was gone in a couple of little plastic spoon fulls. I should have complained straight away, but I wasn't buying, and we were already on the street on the way back to the car. I just think the Clipper Cafe should know how very disappointed we all were. However, I am planning a drive to Holsworthy to buy a big tub of the ice cream.

We found the cafe while walking around the town and we decided to give it a go and it was absolutely brilliant! This was the best fry-up I’ve ever had, it was absolutely delicious. My friends had the crab spaghetti and the liver with bacon and they also enjoyed it very much. The service was brilliant, they offered us to move inside once it began to rain. Overall, I would love to visit again. The view is breathtaking.

My wife and I and 2 friends went for a meal recently. Although the food was good and tasty I felt a bit cheated by "add - on" prices. I had a Fish Pie which was not over-sized but consisted of 3 types of fish covered in mashed potato. It wasn't enough without vegetables as well - but I had to pay and extra £2.95 for them. The same occurred with my friend who had to pay extra for vegetables with his Liver and Bacon and mashed potato. When it came to desserts, which weren't cheap, we had to pay extra for custard or cream with them.I also noticed from the menu that their Eggs Benedict consisted of all the usual ingredients but without Spinach! Anyone who wanted Spinach had to pay an extra £1.50 for it. In my opinion the recipe for classic Eggs Benedict INCLUDES Spinach so what the restaurant classed as Eggs Benedict wasn't actually Eggs Benedict at all.

10 out of 10 to the staff member who provided towels and sympathy for a very wet member of our family group. The cakes looked tempting and the rest of the group said they were as good as they looked. All I can vouch for on this visit is the very good coffee, and the amazing staff. I will be back to try the cakes.

We visited numerous times during our 3 day visit. Breakfasts were amazing, as were the mains, and also the sandwiches and cakes we ate. Lovely friendly staff, always smiling and nothing is ever too much. We love Shaldon, and we love the clipper whihc has become a regular feeding station for us.

Visited a couple of times last week and very consistent.Food is great for the money, lots of choices on the menu.Upstairs views are the best if weather not great otherwise head outside where you'll struggle to find a nice place to sit with this view.Staff clearing tables constantly which is good. Really like this cafe and would recommend to anyone.

Second visit. Great food, fresh, tasty and great portion sizes. A fantastic and extensive menu to choose from with specials to add confusion to your decision making. Friendly and welcoming staff, prices very reasonable particularly given the quality and standard of food. Certainly a place to visit!

We've been visiting Shaldon for a few years and always pop in to the Clipper Cafe for lunch. On a sunny day, the al-fresco area is perfect. I had the fish cakes off the light bites menu, absolutely lovely. The others had different choices which resulted in the same smiles. We will be back.

Had a light bite here with a friend. Good selection of food and light bites. Lovely panini. Can’t fault it. The thing that is the added value is how calm and peaceful the cafe is. It was a pleasure sitting there and enjoy the view over the estuary.

Bright open with a nautical theme made this an inviting place to dine for a late lunch. We sat downstairs, though there is a fine view of the estuary if you dine upstairs. The menu choices were good and food came in a timely fashion and looked great.

The clipper is in the perfect spot with which to take in views of the Teign estuary whilst getting stuck into one of their yummy breakfasts. There's plenty of outside seating plus a good lot of tables downstairs with further seating that again affords great views out.Breakfast is pretty standard fayre - great selection for veggies and meat eaters but not sure what the vegan offering looks like. Coffee is pretty good and they also do some fantastic cakes.Service is also good. The staff are warm and helpful and meals are generally served quickly and are well priced.

Went with the family, so there was 8 of us. Restaurant was busy at 9.30am on a Sunday so we had to be split over 2 tables which wasn’t an issue.Food was extremely quick with it being busy. Everyone was happy with their choices of a cooked breakfast right through to smashed avocado and poached egg on toast.Would definitely return for breakfast again!

Lovely views, Great food! I had a moroccon dish with mango and yogurt dip and nan bread. Absolutely scrumptious. Everyone else at the table enjoyed the food too. Had just enough room for dessert. I like that fact that the menu has quite a different selection to say pub grub food! Presentation was good and staff were very welcoming and friendly. Not that we took our dogs but I also like it that they allow them. Relaxing ambience with candles on the table. The only small issue was that they had ran out of the main and the dessert I was originally going to have but that didn't stop me having a lovely time.

Forest Fungi is a great breakfast / brunch spot. The breakfast menu is served until 2 and offers some unusual and delicious options, mushrooms are front and centre as you would expect. They have also introduced a BBQ menu and offer tea and cake in the afternoon. There is a small farm shop on site and a good range of fresh baked goods. The service is friendly and approachable and prices reasonable. The best thing about Forest Fungi is the food, high quality, fresh, tasty and beautifully presented every time. At the weekend it is sensible to book in advance.

We were welcomed by the head bar man, what a gentleman & a legend taking the time to talk to us. We had visited Buckfast Abbey & drove through this quaint little village, parked cheaply in the pay & display & popped into this small village pub. Great little traditional pub, pool table on the right hand side, very clean & throughout. Good selection of beer & ales. We sat in their well tendered gardens. Definitely recommend for a stop off.

There should be a government warning about this pub. You should be warned about how lovely it is. So nice to walk into a pub that's still a pub. It's how a pub should be. We went with friends for the first time last week and we will certainly visit again. Great atmosphere with friendly locals, lovely staff and then the food ‼️ OMG this is what pub food should be like. Fresh, cooked on site and a desperate Dan size portion. I could not recommend this pub any more. It's a proper pub with proper grub. Go you will love it.
