Ullacombe Farm in Teignbridge

Lovely visit while staying in the local area, we were advised to book and I’m so glad we did! It’s a very popular spot! My husband and I both ordered the big barn breakfasts and the did not skimp on the portions!! I also (wife) ordered the mega hot chocolate and this was delicious! We also ordered some cake to take away with us- we can definitely recommend the carrot cake. All in all, a lovely visit and if we’re back this way again we’ll be sure to book a table and enjoy.

Visited here as a group of 13 for Sunday lunch. We sent a pre order which was great as we had our food almost immediately after sitting down. The service was amazing, the staff were so friendly and helpful. All of our roasts, kids meals and puddings were so delicious and everything was really good value for money. Nice little play area for the kids outside. Would definitely visit here again.

I have been to this venue twice in the last few months. Once just before Christmas and once in mid January, 2025. My first visit was pleasant enough and I came away feeling it was a good place to eat. With hindsight, I would say there were one or two shortcomings, but generally speaking, the food was excellent, and great value for money given the portion sizes. I enjoyed a traditional Christmas dinner, as did the family member I was with, although this was only their choice due to the absence of any adequate gluten-free options. The gluten-free options appeared to be adaptations of the main menu with a recommendation that gluten elements were left out when the dish was served. In other words, it seemed to me that the gluten-free menu didn’t truly exist. (I venture to point out that not all customers aspire to a gluten-free menu because that is a Vogue thing to do, but actually because eating food with gluten in it can cause a really uncomfortable stomach condition. So a failure to adequately offer a gluten-free menu is a significant shortcoming). My second visit was far less positive and on reflection, I would describe it as a disappointment. The website indicates that there is a gluten-free provision, but this is frankly not the case as the only thing they could offer was a sandwich using gluten-free bread. Apart from the limited vegetarian menu everything else was not gluten-free. So the only option for a gluten intolerant customer was a sandwich, or a vegetable Ragu, which to non-vegetarians was completely uninspiring. One of my party ordered this dish, but simply could not eat it after gagging on the first mouthful. We were served by the same lady on both occasions and this is why I say “with hindsight there were one or two shortcomings” because what I dismissed as me being oversensitive on the first visit, was clearly very evident, if not more so on the second visit. I found this waitress to be pushy and impatient. It almost felt as though we had to accord to her preferences, rather than our own. She was insensitive when discussing the gluten-free options (that as described did not exist). She virtually ordered on behalf of one of my children rather than allow us the time to discuss what she really wanted, and having acquiesced to the waitress’ pressure we had to order more food because the waitress” suggestions were inadequate. This is a real shame because I have felt a tone on two separate occasions from this lady that did not lend itself towards excellence in customer service. On a positive note, however, all the other staff members were exceptionally helpful and polite, the setting is generally very pleasant, and apart from the unpalatable vegetarian concoction the rest of the food that we were served was of a high standard. The adjacent shop is also very pleasant too with some lovely things on sale, albeit a bit pricey. Outside there are some farm animals in the barn, which the children enjoyed visiting, ample parking and a small adventure playground. There is a farm shop, which I believe sells meat etc, but on both occasions I visited this was closed. I gather there is also a gallery of crafts and such like but again closed on both occasions. Overall, if asked if I would ever go there again, I would say probably yes, but if there are other options, this might not be my first choice. This decision is based largely on the inadequate gluten-free menu (I think to advertise that they cater for gluten-free customers is a farce) and the attitude of the member of staff who I have mentioned above.

Festive afternoon tea. Lovely atmosphere, fabulous afternoon tea which was plentiful and we ended up taking some home with us. Would definitely return and sample lunch which looked great. Pigs in blankets, roasties and stuffing balls were wonderful especially with the gravy.

We did breakfast with Santa and it was fab! It was very chilled, the food was great, and loved seeing Santa. The staff were very friendly and attentive and got some great photos for us. My only suggestion / niggle would be the menu is very small for breakfast with Santa , it’s either a full English or pancakes, would be nice to offer a few more from the usual breakfast menu like eggs with salmon or avocado etc. Great job guys!

Lovely festive breakfast. We were so well looked after it was amazing. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was fresh and beautifully cooked. The decoration is amazing and although busy was well organised. I have low immunity and we were placed in a corner table and felt really safe. We loved it all. Thank you very much.

I enjoyed lunch here twice whilst on holiday and both times it was wonderful. The food was great and my five year old really enjoyed the afternoon tea that was presented in a hen house! They had the most wonderfully helpful and kind staff, including the very lovely man who helped me to retrieve a lost item, for which I will be forever grateful! Definitely with a visit, the food, service and setting were perfect.

What a marvelous time we had, celebrating my wife's 80th with 24 family grandchildren and their partners; Food was outstanding, all choices catered for with efficient friendly sevice.

Little barn breakfast was poor. Fried egg & bacon was overcooked. Potatoes weren't fried adequately, (white). Baked beans were warm . Tomato was ok. Toast was cold. I gave the sausage to a family member, so can't comment on that.

I stopped off here today after a Dartmoor hike and river swim. I hadn’t booked a table but thought I’d pop in on the off chance and I was lucky to get a table for 40 mins (before the next booking). I ordered the roast beef and a 🍷 and it was bloody delicious! The beef was tender and so tasty, even the carrots were sweet. It was a perfect brief visit. Well done to the chefs 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 and to the waitress or got me the table!! Thanks team ⭐️

Came to this Ullacombe Farm and cafe for a birthday lunch as saw great reviews! What a disappointment!!! Food was cold and burgers were pink inside was not told about how they were cooked! Booked 2 weeks ago and was squished on to a table in the middle not suitable for purpose with 2 baby's. Only good thing is the coffee but that's about it. Everything else no animals outside like websites states so not child friendly.

I was charged an extra £1 as I ordered an Earl Grey tea to go with my small barn breakfast. I was not told this would be ‘extra’ when I ordered it and actually found it a bit petty charging more for essentially a different type of tea bag. I assume the ordinary tea would have been English breakfast which I don’t think is any cheaper and definitely not a £1 cheaper. I noticed the prices have gone up for the breakfasts which I suppose is to be expected but just came away feeling disgruntled about this.

Took my daughter to celebrate her a level results and we was impressed. I had pancakes with strawberries and a tea and she had waffles with and iced latte. Both liked our food.

My daughter and I went to an event this morning, princess tea party. This was absolutely fantastic worth the price for us both. The food was yummy and just enough for us both and got to bring what we didn't manage in a take away container provided without having to ask. The event was in the little barn, brilliantly organised with simple decorations, the balloon arch was our favourite,the colours used went well with the themed princesses, Ariel and Rapunzel. The princess took time for all the children, played games, told a story,Singing and face painting too. The team all together were so warm and fantastic. A memorable morning my daughter and I won't forget. Thank you to all involved

Myself and my 2 children ( under 4 ) went today with my disabled mother. We come go every year and it’s wonderful, However today 1 of the members of staff was awful. My children went to the fruit and veg to meet there nanny, they touched the veg, which was out. I told them off. The member of staff with short hair and an awful attitude, decided she was going to stop serving and stand to glare at my kids for about 3 minutes. My mum was waiting to be served for some cheese, and had a bottle of wine under her arm to pay for, the same awful member of staff walked over to another to inform her my mum was trying to steal a bottle underneath her arm. She was shaking her head at my kids and we were made to feel awful. We will most definitely not be returning as I’d rather feed the money to a goat than return to be treated like this. I asked the other lady if she had a problem and explained why, I was told no not at all, when in actual fact o heard her tell the same women of this. She then glared at us until we left !!

Tasty food, efficient service. the Christmas Club Sandwich was delicious and I’ll definitely have it again! Thank you. Looking forward to returning.

This farm cafe is such a great place to visit. The atmosphere is warm and cosy with a relaxed vibe and the staff are friendly and helpful. Food here is really good quality, homemade with mainly local produce and the prices are very reasonable. Also entertaining for kids, with a huge play barn that has classic games such as twister, ride on tractors and animals. I would definitely recommend.

Very popular place for food. I would book if come on Sunday. The food was lovely & staff friendly. We sat outside in sun kids play on in play area & very close to Dartmoor. There shop on site. We came back in the week for breakfast & it was very nice. But again busy.

Best veg hash I have ever had. Each mouthful was a an explosion of different flavours. Basil pesto was amazing . spoke to the chef and it was the lime he put in made the the pesto extra special.

I’ve been going to Ullacombe since it opened, and I think it’s great. I went through a phase when I wasn’t too keen (it seemed to lose its charm temporarily and the food wasn’t as good when Finn left) but I’m back to loving it! The service is quick, the menu varied (pancakes are a winner with my little one) and there is plenty of on site fun for the young ones. The activities in the play barn is such a good addition - thank you!

Trip advisor rates this cafe in the top 10 Gluten Free eating places near Bovey Tracey Therefore took my GF mum for Sunday lunch Booked for 1530 Admittedly turned up early - asked if they were free - turned away - was happy to browse the shop. Mum went and asked again around 15:20 and was shown to table by a manager. We were left there till 15:40 with no one approaching the table for menus/drinks or orders. Although the manager saw us looking to get someone’s attention. Sister went and asked someone about GF as nothing mentioned on menu - we were told that mum COULD NOT have the mini pigs in blankets, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding or cauliflower cheese, but the “gravy is vegan so no worries” 🫣 I went and spoke to floor manager at 15:50 as no one had taken drinks or food orders and asked about the GF substitutions they offer for their roast Sunday lunches - she said we can add more veg and she then remembered their normal sausages were GF and suggested one of those. When the food arrived it was lovely, truly but what a shame they let themselves down with initial service.
