The Crooked Swan in Crewkerne gets so many things right—from the food and drink to the service, atmosphere, and character—and perhaps most surprisingly, it’s all very reasonably priced. We keep returning, but I have to say: Head Chef Ben’s recent addition of the Kansas City Style Smoked BBQ Rib is outstanding. It’s become a personal favourite—it’s tender, rich with flavour, and exactly the kind of dish that makes you pause mid-bite just to appreciate how well it’s been done. The portions here are extremely generous, yet they never sacrifice quality for quantity—both are delivered in spades, which is a rare thing these days. Another highlight is the Crooked Swan Fish and Chips—crispy, flaky, and served with a curry sauce that hits all the nostalgic notes. It’s that classic chip shop curry sauce you thought had disappeared forever. Pair it with a pint of their own Cygnature Cider—a true medium dry, proper Somerset cider that’s crisp, refreshing, and worth coming in for alone. And if you’re after a cocktail, ask for the Margarita—it’s made with care, balanced just right, and genuinely one of the best I’ve had in the area. The staff are consistently warm, attentive, and effortlessly hospitable. They go the extra mile without ever feeling overbearing. Special mention to the manager, Meg, who’s truly lovely—she makes every guest feel welcome and personally seen, which gives the whole place a kind of homely charm. Whether you’re looking for a memorable meal in Crewkerne or just passing through Somerset, The Crooked Swan is a must. It would be remiss to visit Crewkerne and not step inside. Time and again, I’ve looked at the bill expecting an error—because for the level of food, drink, and service on offer, the pricing feels like too good to be true, but it is true and very reasonable! It’s a place full of atmosphere, quirks, and local charm. Even the regulars are the kind who greet newcomers with conversation and warmth. The Crooked Swan doesn’t just serve great food—it offers something rarer: a proper experience.

Wonderful authentic Thai food , made with fresh ingredients and very reasonably priced . We enjoyed our meal very much tonight and our friends Friday night get together …. The only negative we had was that although the dining area is lovely , it definitely lacked any atmosphere , infact we felt it cringingly quiet .. Thai music playing in the background , would have been a very nice addition

Currently staying in the area for a long holiday/work stay. What terrible people the owners are, the woman especially, the way she talks to the staff is disgraceful and I shall in future avoid this place. One person had just started, their very first day - I overheard this as the owner shouted at them in front of customers and made them cry. I understand you have to run a business but there is a way to manage people and this is not it. It made us feel very uncomfortable sat with my large group including family with a child the same age as the poor person this woman was yelling at. I won’t review the service or the food as concerned for the staffs safety. Beautiful place, needs new owners.

Having tried many other places for Sunday lunch in the local and surrounding areas I can honestly say this place is a cut above the rest. The water wheel is a stunning feature, the service impeccable both of which are only out done by the food. I had the triple roast and the pork belly was flavourful and tender, the chicken superbly moist and the beef was roasted to perfection. Roast potatoes were crispy and fluffy and the gravy was incredible!! I cannot hesitate to recommend this venue and will return to sample their midweek menu also. Fabulous!! Utterly fabulous!!

Always good food and always willing to adapt the menu if there is a change on the menu. Sometimes the bhajees are a tad overdone and then cant be eaten but TBH its not that often and we do try and mention if we had an issue. The takeaway is def worth the money and while we only have 1 Indian restaurant now in Wincanton, this has always been the BEST.

Great lunch. Seven of us turned up as they had opened. We were are party of 4 adults and 3 children. We all chose completely different meals from the menu and every dish was perfect. Special requests were dealt with and we all thoroughly enjoyed our freshly cooked lunch. Will definitely be back again. Many thanks Diane and Russell for making our family feel welcome.

Went for a family lunch of 5 to celebrate a birthday. I have passed this restaurant many times but have never been in before although I had heard good reviews from family. The restaurant was warm and welcoming and the staff were friendly and efficient. The menu choice was really good and the food didn’t disappoint, being both tasty and good quality. We all thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered. I would definitely go back.

Stopped off for lunch after visiting family nearby. A warm welcome, polite, friendly and had a really lovely feel to it. We had the ham ploughman’s and a fish finger sandwich. The food came quickly and served with a smile. The food was delicious. The ploughman’s was large and a great variety. The fish finger sandwich was well cooked, great granary bread and presented perfectly.
