Today's lunch at Brown & Forrest Smokery was nothing short of exceptional – a true five-star culinary experience in the heart of Langport. The quaint and inviting ambience of the smokery provided the perfect setting for a delightful catch-up with a friend. Choosing from the menu was a pleasure, knowing that whatever the selection, satisfaction was guaranteed. My choice, the Tuna Mayonnaise Bap, was a triumph of flavours. The bap was generously packed with succulent, flavorful tuna, beautifully complemented by a creamy mayonnaise that tied the whole experience together. Each bite was a testament to the freshness and quality of the ingredients used. My friend's Full English Bap was a sight to behold—laden with a hearty combination of sausage, egg, bacon, and mushrooms. It was more than a bap; it was a celebration of traditional English breakfast components, all brought together in a convenient and no less delicious form. The culinary journey didn't end with the mains. I couldn't resist purchasing some of their sugar-free biscuits, a sweet endnote to look forward to. The thought of relishing those biscuits later added an extra layer of joy to an already splendid visit. It’s not just the food that deserves applause but also the service. The staff at Brown & Forrest Smokery were as warm as the food was delectable, contributing to a relaxed and friendly dining atmosphere that's hard to come by. In conclusion, if you find yourself in the area and in need of a comforting and satisfying meal, make your way to Brown & Forrest Smokery. Whether it’s for the packed-full baps, the sweet treats, or just the welcoming vibe, this smokery is sure to provide an enjoyable, delicious experience. I’m eagerly looking forward to my next meal here and would heartily recommend it to anyone with an appreciation for fine, hearty fare.

I had smoked salmon, trout and mackerel salad. The salmon in particular was delicious. A friend had the quiche of the day with garlic potatoes which she said was " To die for". Husband had a huge egg mayo bap. Plenty of egg but the bap was ordinary compared to the quality of the other food, he said. Another friend had the bread and butter pudding which could have been shared between two! Huge! The view from the Smokery is lovely as well.

Always enjoy our visit here ,and visit regulary. Unfortunetly today visit did not come up to the usual standard. The full English ,although tasty lacked the blackpudding of which we were not advised. The Full Vegeterian had no vegeterain sausage, only an extra egg had been suppsituted for the bacon and sausage, so not a Full Veggy. There apperaed to be a lack of staff compared to the week before. We will return as the food is great , it was just lacking its usual standards today.

We try to visit a few times each year and when you go choose a smoked dish which yes, they smoked themselves and so none of that painted on rubbish. Last weekend we took a couple who had never been before as a treat and a treat it was for the lamb and cheddar were delicious. We always book a table so we can eat as it can get quite busy but the staff are so nice and with the added twist of a beautiful Somerset view on offer and that's just the car park. Price is very reasonable and they do cater for those with 'intolerances'

We could not manage dessert but I saw someone ordering cheese and the portion was ridiculously huge!! The premises are comfortabel and service is friendly. I was a little disappointed by the deli though - there were various smoked products in the fridge but not as large a range as I would have liked though we did buy some first rate smoked matured cheddar - fantastic. These guys do hampers by post and I would consider one of those as a present for friends.

You either need to know of this place or have a great sat nav to find this lovely place, my journey was down single track roads but very scenic. What a lovely concept a little country business park with various little businesses. Brown and Forrest is well signposted. A rustic unit with nice little tables with cotton table cloths the menu was simple but indeed featured smoked produce, why wouldn't it? Several tables were taken , my main aim was to visit the shop which had a good range of smoked meats , fish and cheese, together with condiments and sauces. They do a mail order service and takeaway salads and sandwiches. I had a smoked chicken salad sandwich , delicious soft granary bread and tasty chicken. When I have more time will visit again for lunch.

We had lunch here on a scorching day in early June on the recommendation of the owner of our holiday cottage and were not disappointed. The staff were excellent and so helpful, due to the hot sun we couldn't leave our dog in the car, so they carried a table outside so he could join us in the fresh air. The food was fabulous, we started with smoked trout pate & their signature smoked eel and followed up with smoked salmon, salad & garlic potatoes & homemade fish pie with roasted vegetables & garlic potatoes. Everything was perfectly cooked/prepared/presented but the Fish Pie needs special mention being the best we have ever experienced, packed with fish from their smokery, topped with perfect potatoes and only a small amount of sauce dressing the fish, rather than the usual loads of sauce & search for the fish! Accompanied by a delicious glass of white wine & a very good local Ale in the glorious Somerset sunshine, we couldn't ask for more! The menu although relatively short is perfectly balanced, all homemade/produced and my only criticism is that unless you know the restaurant/shop/smokery you may not realise that the majority of the dishes on the menu use their own products, they need to make more of this in the descriptions since it is their unique selling point and needs to be better promoted! Once we had finished our delicious lunch a browse in the shop soon became a full on shopping experience when we discovered all the fantastic products they produce at this great Smokery. Tastes of everything were available which only made it harder to choose what to buy with the restriction of a small fridge in the cottage it was a tough decision! We will definitely return and have ordered a box of goodies online since returning home, we cannot rate this friendly, welcoming restaurant highly enough, everything from the excellent, informative staff to the fabulous food & great ambience (not to mention the shop products) was perfect!

Burrow Hill is only a mile or so away, should you require more refreshment! The service is first class, and the building gives a nice atmosphere. One complaint, the one toilet, although clean, only had one small towel to be shared by all. This is very poor, surly paper towels could be provided or even a electric dryer.Provide that and we would award five stars.

Came to buy some products from the shop, and ended up staying for lunch. As this is a smokery, you have to appreciate that most of the offerings will be the products that they have smoked themselves. They do a fantastic range of smoked goods; smoked sausages, venison, hams, trout and salmon, as well as a range of mouth-watering pates. Many of their products are endorsed by top chefs (Lesley Waters for one) or are used by local restaurants. That being said, although I love their products, if one of your party is not so keen on smoked stuff, there would be a limited choice. I had a delicious home-made quiche with salad and boiled potatoes, and the menfolk had smoked sausages. This is not a particularly cheap place to eat; you are paying for an artisanal product. The décor is rustic in a converted barn with exposed beams, etc. The restaurant and shop area run into each other, so you can do your shopping on the way out!

Following a very agreeable visit to the Muchelney Pottery, we three ladies decided to lunch at this smokery restaurant on the recommendation of the lovely Mrs. Leach there. She is a truly wise woman. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, the food is superb and the service excellent. They were able to cater for my gluten free needs and advise me which choices were safe. My friends shared a smoked eel on rye toast for a starter, then we had variations on the theme of salad with new potatoes and either hot smoked trout or cold smoked salmon. Finally, we could not resist the dessert menu and all chose a gluten free ginger and meringue semifreddo with toffee sauce. With Miles Coffee and Tea (from Minehead), there was a strong emphasis on local food. So good!

The restaurant is in a small industrial estates in the middle of nowhere (well, just outside Langport on the Somerset Levels) but once inside you forget where you are. The building is nicely decorated inside with a shop on one side and the restaurant taking up the remainder of the building - with exposed beams and fairy lights, just like in a barn. I wanted to try everything on the menu and certainly everything smoked. The waitresses were very friendly and helpful. I had the smoked eel on rye starter - with horseradish and beetroots. Never had eel before and I would have it again. I then had the smoked chicken breast which was moist and delicious. The salad with it was quite "old fashioned" and looked straight out of a pack of supermarket salad but the dressing was delicious. The small salad potatoes were also great - served warm and that was the only warm food on the plate. The alternative to the salad potatoes was bread which I found strange. Husband and mother in law had potted shrimps - served warm which was a surprise. He then had the smoked sausages which he loved. Mother in law had the smoked salmon. I was the only one to have a third course - the smoked cheddar. It was enormous and there would have been enough for 3 of us if any of the others had wanted any. It came with a selection of crackers, some celery sticks and delicious chutney. I could not finish it so took it home. Amazing smoky flavour and probably the strongest smoked flavour of all the dishes I had. I had the Kingston Black Apple aperitif and enjoyed it so much I had another glass with my cheese. At £2.20 it was too good not to have again. The wine list is small and the house wine was very good. I would certainly visit again and hopefully would be able to visit the actual smokery and see how they do it.

The food at the smokery is consistently good and although the choice is limited - usually four starters, four mains and deserts we have never been disappointed. It is great for a relaxed lunch.

The restaurant is in fact a cafe attached to a smokery in the Somerset countryside. Limited menu but good freshly prepared food. e.g: smoked trout pate, smoked sausages, gin and tonic jelly, cakes, etc.Farm shop with produce to buy.

I always take my parents here when they are staying with me as they love it. Today we ate Fabulous smoked trout with garlic potatoes served with a well dressed and imaginative salad. Pud to follow was home cooked and delicious. The menu is limited but I think that is a good thing. The staff are delightful and friendly and go the extra mile to make the meal experience very special. The shop next door selling gift items is well worth exploring too. All in all a lovely day out

The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere but there is not much choice on the menu. However, the food is good and I have to praise the puddings! There is a shop within the restaurant selling smoked foods as well as wines, spirits and chocolates etc. There is a nice shop next door selling gifts and also just around the corner is a delightful antiques and collectables shop and a picture framers. A nice place to take the 'rellies' on a trip out but I'm not sure I'd travel out there specifically for the eating experience.

The food was very good. Whilst the menu was limited in length and catered mostly to smoked meats/fish (as from the 'smokery' billing you would rightly expect), the quality of everything we ate was excellent. The service however was functional rather than warm or engaging, which didn't help the atmosphere. Could do better, front of house. Great work, kitchen.

We found this restaurant by accident as we were visiting a shop nearby. The first time we just had coffee and cake but as the main food looked so good we called back again for a lunch. The restaurant is very simple and unfussy and has a good atmosphere, although we eat outside on both visits. The majority of the food is from their own smokery and is superb, I had smoked eel which was absolutely delicious. All beautifully served by helpful staff. They also have a good range of locally produced drinks. It is off the beaten track but well worth making a diversion for

We were hoping to find some where in Glastonbury, but happened to spy the brochure for Brown & Forrest. The details said they were closing at 3pm, so I took a chance and called them if they were ok with us arriving just before. They were very, very accommodating, and we arrived with five minutes to spare. The food menu is mainly smoked of which we enjoy. We were looked after extremely well and the food was delicious. We did not stay for dessert, but the shop had a good range of products to purchase and I would of if I'd had the fridge travelling with me! I would say this venue is worth the travel!

This is not the place to go if you want an extensive menu, but if you enjoy a small selection of dishes - all smoked - cooked to perfection and served with a simple accompaniment, it is hard to improve on this place. The eel is superb, as are the smoked salmon, smoked duck and pretty much everything else. Desserts are also good. Best of all is the deli shop alongside, so you can stock up on outstanding foodie ingredients at the same time. If you are in the area do not miss it, and it is more than worth a special journey as well.

If you are going down south do not miss this place. I am very fussy and this place is at the top of the list. Clean, child friendly, excellent service, food is superb. You can stop there just for a cup of tea and cakes (delicious). We always go there to have a meal. My husband is allergic to fish, however he gets duck (not on the menu but very kindly prepared for him) or pork. I have tried eel, pork. It all comes with a salad and their dressing is amazing. The bread is so tasty too!I go for a nice somerset cider! Everytime we go there is a treat!Make sure you leave space for the puddings, they are very very nice!!!

It was worth the short detour from Junction 25 on the M5 to visit the smokery and have a taste of their smoked eel pate which is a real treat. The menu is full of good quality produce simple but full of flavour.I have to say that while lunch is good the best part of a visit is the shopping, the smoked eel is divine and the hot smoked trout is like nothing I have ever tasted before. This place is a little gem and I kind of hope that not too many people read this review I would hate them to run out of stock.

Delicious food which is not the usual 'run of the mill'. The menus is slightly limited if you don't like fish, but the ham is absolutely wonderful and the desserts are out of this world! Nice atmosphere and good service. It gets busy at lunchtime so it's best to book. Planning a return visit very soon.

It was an inspired move I open the cafe/restaurant to showcase the excellent smoked products produced by Brown and Forrest. The dishes that have been created to show off their products have been thoughtfully put together and in any combination mke for delicious lunches. Service is both efficient and cheery and our overall experience was very positive.

I had lunch with my wife and daughter and it was lovely. My daughter had a large bowl of tomato and basil soup and smiled ear to ear while eating it. I had the smoked chicken salad and it was fresh and tasty with a great deep smoky flavour throughout the chicken. My wife had the hot smoked salmon and thoroughly enjoyed it. The meals come with new potatoes that were fluffy and perfectly cooked. The only small downside of the restaurant is that the menu is quite limited with two starters and four mains. It does change as I have been before, but I would like to try the other food they sell in the adjacent shop as part of a meal.Service was prompt and friendly. Light and airy restaurant in the same room as the little shop selling all the smoked goodies e.g sausages, black pudding, pork loin, ham, chicken, numerous fish and beef.Lovely visit and would go again if in the area.

I have visited this restaurant and shop in the past and have found it to be very good. I mostly now purchase mail order and regard their products as excellent. Their smoked trout and gravadlax are wonderful and the smoked pork loin and artic char are very good. The trout pate is also very good. A quality company with very good service. Keep it up!

This lovely smokery is perched atop a hill with fab views - slightly obscured from our table by the car park, but lovely nonetheless! The smoked goods are delicious, and we not only ate there but left with a lot of delicacies for the fridge. Very nice indeed.

Travelled here on the recommendation of the owners of our holiday cottage and I was not disappointed. There was a great selection of smoked foods in the little shop e.g. sausage, salmon, black pudding, chicken, etc.My wife had smoked salmon and I tried the smoked chicken and it was delicious. My daughter had the tomato and basil soup as she was reluctant to try anything 'smoked'. She did try the smoked eel on the way out and thought it was lovely - praise indeed. It is a small cafe with about 15 tables and a couple outside. The majority of the food is served cold with a salad, though I would have liked a few more hot options. Overall a pleasant experience with helpful staff, a nice well stocked shop and a simple menu incorporating the main selling point - the smokery food. The only downside is that is has very limited opening times - check before you set off.

I've had lunch here on a number of occasions and have always had a good lunch. The menu is simple and unchanging but, if like me, you enjoy smoked eel, pork, chicken, sausages or fish followed by good homemade puds, all served in pleasant surrounding, then this is the place for you. There is also a shop to buy lots of goodies.Highly recommended

Food is excellent but portions are small and perhaps designed for the more mature customer (OAP portions by default) .Its a good place for lunch and a great atmosphere. You can also purchase local produce from the shop - its pricey but good quality.

Booked for dinner but on arrival, they thought we had booked for buffet, fortunately they had a table for us within a short time so we had a pre-dinner drink in the bar, which is fabulous and then went for a lovely meal in the Bistro, it is a small and intimate restaurant and quite modern and food is served on hot rocks, which you cook yourself to your own taste. Nice concept and food was really lovely BUT find that it gets pretty smoky when it is very busy. This is not a unique concept to us and it was a very nice change. Service was attentive and good and wine selection is great. Little pub at the Langport Arms is friendly and wonderful for pre or post drinks too.

Simply the best Fish and Chip shop around. You can get most of the menu as a gluten free option too. The staff are fantastic too. Thank you everyone for your wonderful service 😍

What a delightful place to stay at. We stayed for a couple of nights to visit the surrounding area and had the friendliest welcome and comfortable stay. James, the waiter in the evening, was a credit to them. He helped you choose what to eat and was attentive and friendly. The food was outstanding, especially the fish dishes. The breakfast was the best we have ever had and was cooked to order with local produce. Cannot wait to return.

The chip shop has been closed for a while due to staff going on holiday. Last night we very much enjoyed our chips, chicken and curry sauce.
