Having lived in Somerset for nearly 12 years The Smithy is without a doubt my favourite pub. The owners are incredibly welcoming and friendly; the atmosphere is relaxed and the customers are a wonderful mix of great people. There is a large garden for eating out during the summer where they put on events . Cosy sofas around the fireplace for the winter months and most importantly the food is proper pub food with a great mix of choice. I highly recommend it if you are visiting this part of Somerset which is a 15 minutes from Bruton, The Newt and Hauser & Wirth

Lunch for three after a trip to Stourhead. Fabulous home cooking and great service so friendly and welcoming. Locally sourced cheese and sausages. Interesting veggie options. Great range of ciders, including a rhubarb cider! Well located for Burton or Stourhead.

Great friendly welcome and great food. Really relaxed atmosphere which is just what you want when out with family. Very accommodating with fussy children and great at finding a solution for them. Great to have activities for children as well

Love the quirkiness of the place and the staff were super friendly and helpful. The food was really tasty traditional pub fayre and they had a good range of drinks. However, the portion size was what left a bad taste in our mouths. The kids portion was tiny - fine for a 3 year old but not for a 7 year old. We had to order extra portions of sides once the food came. The price wasn't bad if the portions had been bigger. But as we had to order extra sides and a whole second kids meal it was more costly than we intended.

What a wonderful village / country pub. Greeted like a local invited to join in on the quiz night. Food was superb. Proper food clearly homemade and delicious. Her had a spicy chickpea burger - the vote was outstanding. I had the beef burger with onion rings and coleslaw - simply outstanding The specials were very tempting as well and clearly displayed.

We had such a lovely experience in The Smithy! The food was fantastic, with plenty to choose from for someone who is Gluten and Dairy intolerant. The dairy free mocha semifreddo was heavenly! What a lovely find, great food, we had the Chicken Supreme and it lived up to its name. Very attentive staff, friendly atmosphere and parking not a problem. Top marks!

Made the (very) small detour off the A303 on our way back to London, and it was absolutely worth it. Delicious home cooked veggie chilli and burger (the relish was the perfect accompaniment). Friendly and caring service. We’ll be calling in again!

A traditional village pub offering well kept real ales, delicious wine and a menu full of pub favourites. We were made very welcome by Kelly and the food was great, especially the homemade treacle tart! Looking forward to another visit very soon.

Lovely pub, super staff. Went in on a long journey home from Cornwall. They were very accommodating and I had the best veggie burger I had had in years! We will definitely be going back in the summer on our next trip down to the SW!

We came here for a meal and I must say it is a hidden gem! The pub itself is quirky and well decorated in fairy lights, giving a wonderful atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious- really good portion sizes, plenty of options to choose from and served with a smile, all for a very good price. There are also plenty of wines/drinks to choose from at the bar. The staff were all so lovely- in particular the barmaid/waitress who was so polite in getting to know us and making our stay pleasant, and the owner who greeted us at our table and recommended some dishes from the menu (his wife is the chef- and a very good one at that) and wine. I would highly recommend a visit here- we will definitely be returning soon!

Lovely warm, friendly atmosphere. Interesting curiosities dotted about and comfortable sofas round the fire. The staff are lovely. Food is good, specials especially so. Lots of ciders, and plenty of everything else. Thete is a large garden which is also nicely decorated with lights and bunting and plenty of tables. Large parking area at the back.

Our party of six had a most enjoyable evening. The staff were welcoming and the lady who served us was particularly attentive. This was greatly appreciated because one of our number is very unsteady and uses a wheelchair/ walking frame. The member of staff concerned fetched extra cushions. She made sure that we had plenty of time to settle and showed us every consideration. The food was delicious. I had the best Caesar Salad I have ever tasted! We would certainly return if visiting the area again.

Today we went to the Smithy for their Sunday roast and it was absolutely amazing!! The roast beef was beautifully rare and the pork was cooked perfectly. Roast potatoes were crisp and delicious and the cauliflower cheese was what you want, cheesy! Freshly made yorkshires and fantastic gravy. I've reviewed this pub before because it is a real hidden gem with so much character, cosy atmosphere and amazing landlord/lady. Thank you so much for an amazing afternoon can't wait to come back.

Out walking yesterday found The Smithy for shelter from rain. Made to feel so welcome. Thank you to the landlady and customers for a fantastic weekend. Made myself and my wife feel like a regular customers. Thank you again Alan and Sharron.

Warm and friendly reception. Quirky interior, which you might love or hate! Not great for ale but usually a good selection of ciders. For a chilly evening arrive early to grab the comfy sofas by the fire!

Delicious food, cosy atmosphere with Becky's own unique style. I have a restricted diet and Becky took care and made me a meal that I could actually eat and it was so tasty and I didn't feel I was missing out at all. Book for Sunday lunch and say you want roast as they are so popular they can run out!

This is a bit far from home to be my local, but I visit every 3rd Wed for the music session, which is great (if you enjoy English / Irish tunes and the occasional song). Friendly landlord and staff. Good beer & cider. I haven't tried their menu, but the snacks, chips etc. they give players during the session are delicious!

Great food at moderate prices. Very friendly and accommodating staff, especially for young children. Cosy inside and a small beer garden with a swing for kids which is fine in summer but not really anything for kids to do inside.
