The White Hart Hotel & Restaurant in South Somerset

Unable to comment on hotel suites. But the pub/food was lovely. Tentative owners running pub, lovely people.

We spent two nights here with our son in law and daughter. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the included continental breakfast was generous. We opted for an optional cooked breakfast on our final morning which was delicious. We dined in the hotel for both nights of our stay and the menu and specials were sampled. We all enjoyed our meals which were piping hot, well cooked and imaginatively presented. The serving staff were pleasant, attentive and helpful and the landlord and landlady were very hospitable and hard working. The ambience in the pub was friendly and lively. We would definitely recommend and hope to stay again in the future.

My lovely friend took me out for a bday dinner. I had been there once before for sunday lunch. The Welcoming one gets and the atmosphere is just so lovely . The food is delicious can highly recommend their pavlova and I had pork tenderloin for my evening meal . Would definitely recommend coming here closed on a Monday Would also recommend booking as it is very popular. Easy to park as have their own car park yet there is also plenty of on street parking too . You wont be disappointed by far one of the best pubs to eat in the area .

Fantastic village pub with rooms and restaurant. Also bar food and draught ales. Wonderful French influenced menu with fresh ingredients. Friendly, courteous staff and welcoming management. Great central village location with parking. Dog friendly too.

Very friendly owners who provide a very good service for their guests. We stayed for two nights and dined in on one, when we enjoyed an excellent meal Car parking was a bit tight - could be a major issue when all bedrooms occupied or if there's a special event in the pub

We popped in here on a visit to Martock, a lovely find, great country pub atmosphere for a Wednesday lunch time, great food and service.

Always a warm welcome from the owners and staff. The pub is lovely. The food is great. The drinks prices are reasonable. 5 stars.

Four of us went for a meal with a couple of drinks. As stated in other reviews, we were welcomed by friendly and efficient staff. The bar area was was well populated by customers who clearly were having a good time. The whole vibe was really refreshing and positive. Their was no hint of pretentious I have found in gastropubs visited before. Food was very tasty with good portion sizes. Food arrived hot well presented. Two of us had the rump steaks that were cooked as requested whilst the other two in our party had lamb shank and beefburger dishes. The only reservation was that the triple cooked chips were not of the best, they were soggy. Spoke with Isobel the owner whilst paying the bill who was a delight to converse with. In a small Somerset village this was gem to find. Went with by brother who has moved recently to Martock. Will be back hopefully.

Came in for lunch with my family. We had the famous omelette which was delicious. Very welcoming, dog friendly and cosy. Reasonable prices, I can highly recommend.

First, the positives: it’s a beautiful building, a busy, friendly locals bar and our drinks and service were great. However, we were a little disappointed tonight. The online reviews were great and I was really looking forward to a good meal on the last night of our Somerset holiday. The bar was really busy and all the staff were very friendly and helpful, but the food was a bit of a let down. Perhaps my expectations were too high. My terrine starter was pretty average and on the small side for the price. The few leaves that represented the salad were limp and uninspiring. I had the haddock, mushy peas and chips for main. My fish was nice but the chips were greasy and limp. They tasted as if they’d been flash fried to warm them up. I noticed on the way out that the hotel required staff and maybe that was the issue.

Some friends, who live in Martock, invited us down for the weekend and booked a table for four at the White Hart. We had been in there a few times before, but only for drinks. It has a delightfully cosy bar area that you can relax in along with locals and the odd friendly dog, if you are lucky. The White Hart is run by a friendly French lady and her family and you can really feel their warmth as they welcome you in and chat to you like you have known them for years. We went to the dining area and perused the menu, too many delicious things! I decided to go for the ribeye steak and gingerly asked if I could swap my chips for some of the dauphinois that was offered on another dish. This was not a problem at all and was actively encouraged. They steak was cooked and presented to perfection with mushrooms, roast tomatoes, a garlic mushroom sauce and of course the dauphinois. Every part of my meal was delicious and I savoured every bite. The rest of the groups face told a similar story with everyone enjoying their chosen dish. Next time I will have the monkfish or the roast duck...or the lamb...or the mussels...or...

It’s a pleasure to give this restaurant a good review. Right from the start it was a great experience - lovely and warm after a cold walk, friendly welcome. Food came quickly and was delicious we had the mackerel pâté and the ham terrine. For the mains we had monkfish in Prosciutto, steak and the fish and chips all beautifully presented. Wine was a fair price. All in all a lovely experience we will come again.

Well, it was ok, breakfast included with trip advisor well tbh could of included little more, only one thing if your an Older guest, one younger Member of staff, actually With Her younger friends were Very Rude, disrespectful, owners were fine, We, should remember they will be My Age one day, but tbh Younger Staff should have more Respect for Older Paying Customers Staying for couple of Nights. If it wasn't for the remarks not seen by the owner's my stars would be more. We should all be allowed to stay Solo without, younger comment's.

We have visited many times and always had good food. The mussels were exceptional on the most recent visit. What really sets the White Hart above others is its very friendly owners and staff, they really know how to make everyone feel special.

Stayed here as our son is moving locally. Landlord and landlady very friendly and welcoming. Food was also very good. We will definitely stay here again. A very pleasant experience all round.

This is our restaurant we come to when we stay with our caravan in Martock. A touch of luxury and a nice escape.Friendly, warm and efficient staff. We were staying at the Southfork Caravan Park and escaped for evening dinner. Found The White Hart in the middle of Martock.

We were taken with relatives for a midday meal .They had enjoyed previous meals but a very long wait and a strangely presented and tough braised beef was an embarrassment for them and us. Probably a first and last visit for us.

Called in one evening to see if it was suitable for an evening meal. The bar was very busy but the whole place looked uncared for and lacked atmosphere. Don’t know what the food is like.

I'm always somewhat nervous of 'local' pubs and particulary those that have a more 'classic' appearance-So I entered the White Hart with some trepidation.

Love the atmosphere, and vibe of this lovely restaurant, food is really good, unfortunately, the last visit we were let down by the level of service and lack of item on the menu. Service was very slow and waited nearly half an hour for wine glasses that were apparently still in the dishwasher being washed... only after order was placed were we told of the items that were no longer available. on the night, which was a bit disappointing. Food is great, so will return.

Been there for dinner. A climax of positive things since the begining: first a warm welcoming, then very detailed menu presentation plus a special request not in the menu but that the chef has been able to provide anyway.

Really enjoyed our lunch yesterday. Menu went beyond the standard pub food to include some more unusual dishes. We had a vegetarian frittata, curried couscous and salad, not because we are vegetarian but because it sounded different. It was delicious, well cooked and presented. The salad was many notches above the standard fare.

A warm welcome immediately put us at ease. Given choice of places to sit and menus brought quickly. Super choices and some unusual dishes. The food was served quickly and portions were very generous and good quality. Desserts were delicious too. Nice ambience in restaurant area for quiet meal but good to see bar was really busy and lots of people eating - always a good sign. Personal service was a notable feature, we felt like valued customers thank you.

Stopped here for 1 night. Peter and Issi were absolutely lovely! The food was amazing and service fantastic. They made us city girls feel very welcome.

Happened to be in Martock house hunting with a friend and were recommended to the White Hart by a local.

Popped in and got a table without a booking. Very friendly warm welcome from the bar staff. Typical pub/ English hotel menu. Lots of choices. Ordered at the bar and then went to table. Had gammon and steak mains and cheesecake and hot pudding desserts. Massive portions, couldn’t finish it all. I’m sure we will be back.

Ate here on Friday night, had a nice quiet meal away from the bar, staff were very friendly, food was delicious! Couldn’t fault it, two empty plates and stayed for a couple night caps, great job guys

We ate here as a family on a recent trip to the area and were not let down with the overall experience. Landlord and wife seem a lovely couple and were most accommodating to our needs. Good food, with even better ales!

We called in for lunch and were warmly welcomed. Menu was extensive. As we were eating that evening we just had a bar snack, which was excellent, came promptly, and was very good value. My tuna mayonnaise baguette was fresh, and came with a proper salad. Highly recommended.

Not the most modern or pristine but I just love this place. The landlord Peter is so friendly. The welcome and quality of food and service are a fabulous discovery.

Parado en el camino de vuelta desde Cornwall - que estaba a mitad de camino, encontramos 'camino' usando tripadvisor y nos arriesgamos.

El personal, muy amable, nos ofreció una selección de lugares de descanso, y elegimos el restaurante en frente del hotel. Así como el menú normal de carne, había una buena gama de recomendaciones del chef, empezamos con Ensalada Waldorf, mientras nuestro amigo tenía vieiras (muy bueno) - las ensaladas eran realmente deliciosos con un montón de nueces. Luego tuvimos el rape (foto), vegetariano green curry tailandés (con una guarnición de patatas fritas sabrosas - teníamos hambre! El pea chick) y tarta (foto; que venía con su propio chips). Ambos eran muy buenos, con raciones muy generosas. Postres incluido la tarta de manzana y la esponja con bayas (tanto victoria con helado) pero ya bastante lleno y luchado (un poco) a fin. El personal era atento, sin ser dominantes. En general, excelente y altamente recomendable.

Vinimos para el almuerzo. No mucho para aquellos que son sin gluten y no quieres una comida masiva a la hora del almuerzo, aunque hay patatas de la chaqueta. Acabé con patatas fritas caseras con queso triple (que estaba bien, aunque el queso no tienen una gran oferta de sabor) y un ensalada mixta (bastante agradable, y buena casa). Uno de mis compañeros de comedor tenía pollo Hunter's con patatas fritas y ensalada, una porción muy generosa que ella luchado hasta el final; tuve que ayudar. El otro, un vegetariano, ordenó el hongo y stilton baguette, que comer aquí antes y disfrutamos. La diferencia era, la última vez que había venido con champiñones cocidos, esta vez fueron crudo que él no me gusta. Le gusta armar un escándalo incluso menos, así que he mencionado el problema a nuestro servidor, que dijo que 'er personalistas lamento' en vez de 'Oh cielos, déjame quitar de nuevo y lo trae de vuelta con champiñones cocidos que hubiera preferido. Decente, agradable ambiente suficientes bebidas, lugar cómoda (aunque un poco fría), pero no prisa atrás.

i can't begin to praise this place enough! Upon arrival the staff were so warm and welcoming, my room was absolutely gorgeous! The pictures do not do it justice!I was there for four nights and ate there every night as the food was so good! Reasonably priced and delicious. I stay away most weeks for work and this has been one of my favourite stays!!

Have to leave another review after having the best Sunday lunch ever! Everything about the meal was perfect - meat tender, yokshire pudding was huge, veg selection varied and all cooked to perfection. Followed by delicious dessert - apple and coconut sponge with icecream.Service was fast, friendly and courteous. Fabulous place to eat!

We came in for a Saturday dinner.The food and staff were great with a quite large menu to choose from.Also enjoyed the coffee with a lovely chocolate truffle.

This is my third visit to The White Hart.Absolute love it! I am a lone professional female who comes to work locally and I am always made to feel totally welcome and comfortable. Real rural traditional pub Really lovely food, atmosphere and drinks/coffee. They really make an effort. Beautiful crisp white sheets in cosy quiet room.It's a haven!

Prior to going, I ensured that they could a) cater for coeliac (gluten free) diet and that b) they were disability friendly, myself being in a wheelchair.On arrival, the reception staff welcomed us jovially, showing us to a table ready prepared to accommodate my wheelchair.Our waiter was very friendly, smartly dressed and happy to serve us.The menu itself was quite high-end, with a selection of fish, game, lamb, Rib-eye and vegetarian options.Having a small appetite I forewent a starter but my husband was full of praise for his scallops with black pudding and my daughter was delighted with her broad bean and kale soup, served with sweet corn and sweet chili frittatas.Now for the main course: Sadly, my daughter and I are not fish or game eaters, which left only vegetarian option or a rib eye which would be too fatty. I explained to the waiter and asked if we maybe could have a sirloin instead; the waiter was very obliging ,returning with a yes quite speedily.Main meals were fabulous: my husband ate guinea fowl which was the most succulent he's ever had and our medium rare steaks were cooked to perfection and cut like butter.None of us had room for dessert or coffee, with myself having a j20, our daughter a couple of Malibu's and hubby two pints of lager on tap.Despite a slight lack of choice, which was only down to personal preference, the entire meal was well presented, as were the staff, all were pleasant and we cannot fault it. Thanks to all for a lovely meal.

Previous reviews of the White Hart made me nervous, but our experience was good. They do have a very extensive menu, which is always a worry. I selected the slow cook belly pork which was great and husband had the Haddock and chips which looked really good and husband enjoyed. Prices were reasonable and the service friendly and welcoming.

I'd heard a lot about the white hart and it's friendly service and good food so I thought I would go with the family and see what it was about. From the moment we got there we knew it was going to be very busy but even so there was plenty of staff to ensure no one was waiting too long for drinks or food and the atmosphere was electric. The free firework display was enjoyed by everyone and we put money in to the charity collection buckets over all I would give the white hart a solid 8/10 for service/good food and local beers and being dog friendly was fantastic. Well done to the whole team and see you very soon.

Average food which is a pity as could be really good. Friends had rump steak - a bit tough, another ordered beef casserole and was served what tasted like curry, I had gammon which was a bit tasteless. Another had fish which was good. Appalling quality food, which is well below average. Having eaten here twice, we not do so again. A great pity as the bar is friendly and roomy.

Second visit yesterday for quick lunch and still impressed with everything about the White Hart. Had simple soup for starter which was lovely followed by cottage pie and fresh veg. The cottage pie was best tasted in a long time - it was lush! Service was prompt, efficient and friendly. Just love this place!

All meals have been good and they are very accommodating if you have children or dogs or both, which some pubs are not. We go quite a lot as it has the added bonus that we can walk home! There is not a garden but that is a minor thing. Family have stayed here overnight and have said that its really good clean and comfy.

This is our nearest pub. They provide an excellent range of meals that are well cooked. Staff are friendly. Very popular with locals.

I had the best scallops I have ever had as a starter , the fish main was lovely A French type restaurant great staff, this place is worth a visit. Part of a pub.with restaurant in the other room, simple decor but pleasant enough, white tablecloth with a paper cloth over that, will always go if ever I travel near this restaurant.The fish is fresh , I asked, and it tasted fresh.

Having found the White Hart from Trip advisor I met a friend there as it was half way from out respective homes. She arrived first and was underwhelmed, but we said that as it had good reviews we would stay. What a surprise. She had liver pate which she said was excellent, I had a lovely bacon and brie salad which was super, we then had sticky coffee pudding which was not too sweet (a joy!) and coffee. The two men serving were charming and the cost was very very reasonable. I would recommend this pub/hotel for lunch any time. It was so delightfully old fashioned with very good home produced food.

I stayed in Martock during my tour of the UK. I decided to have a roast lunch on Sunday at the White Hart. A cosy traditional pub in the centre of this historic village. I cannot fault the friendly staff, but the meal was very ordinary. The vegetables were so over-cooked it was difficult to decide what they were, and everything, including the gigantic Yorkshire pudding, was swimming in gravy. I did notice other guests meals that appeared to be much better choices. So maybe I was just unlucky on the day.

The only drawback is the clinical-type restaurant. You just feel that you've been shut away as some sort of embarrassment! Shame .

We came here for a meal with friends. We opted to sit on the front dining room. The choice of food was excellent, including two vegetarian options. All of our meals were brought to us fairly quickly, even though they were busy. The bar tables were full and there were also people eating on the smaller dining room at the back. Our desserts were lovely too, all at reasonable priced. All the staff were very welcoming and very efficient. nothing was too much trouble and they certainly looked after us. We would highly recommend The White Hart, and we look forward to returning.

We visit regularly and always enjoy a really good meal. There is the choice of eating in the restaurant or more informally in the bar. There is always a warm welcome, good wines and an extensive menu, with an ever changing specials board. The fish choices are particularly extensive and excellent. The atmosphere is buzzy and warm. Me and my wife, and two friends had a very enjoyable evening and meal at the white Hart. Everybody's meal was first class, the service was excellent, and the attached bar had a very friendly atmosphere. I was particularly impressed by the fish menu, which had six separate dishes. All in all an A1 experience, thanks to all.

We both thought the food was excellent. The delicious mushroom soup was accompanied by warm crusty bread. But the venison was the star of the evening. And the service, despite the pub absolutely heaving on Christmas eve, was perfect.

Visited on Beaujolais nouveau night. Busy and a great casual atmosphere and entertainment laid on. Food was french style and well cooked. We had fish and it was a pleasure to find that it was not overcooked as is so often the case.
