Stopped off for lunch after visiting family nearby. A warm welcome, polite, friendly and had a really lovely feel to it. We had the ham ploughman’s and a fish finger sandwich. The food came quickly and served with a smile. The food was delicious. The ploughman’s was large and a great variety. The fish finger sandwich was well cooked, great granary bread and presented perfectly.

Been coming here for many years it’s always welcoming and good food. Sadly on Sunday 29 October this wasn’t the case, 6 of us went for Sunday lunch. My cousin and his wife arrived first and said we were on our way as we had met flood water to be told our table was booked out again at 3 o’clock and they were very busy which wasn’t the way to welcome customers and not with a smile either. Our table was in the bar area but it was quite cold no heating on or fire lite service was not its usual high standard and certainly not with a smile. Our roast lunch was fine the desserts could have been served better and we waited a long time for plates to be cleared and ask if we wanted coffee .All in all not up to its usual standard.

Drinks were good & bar staff were lovely and very friendly. Fish and chips- fish was good and crispy but came with wedges instead of chips, which didn’t go well. We also went for Easter Sunday lunch and sadly this was a real let down- no lamb, greasy over cooked roast potatoes, overcooked veg, greasy over cooked Yorkshire pudding and meat smothered in gravy. We didn’t bother staying for pudding. I’d recommend this place for a drink and a quick bite if you were passing but not for any special occasion/meal.

Sadly this pub seems to have gone right down hill. It was a favourite spot with well cooked traditional British food. Yesterday it was rather different. Runny pate. fish and not chip but some refried roast potatoes, bullet hard eggs with the ham and undrinkable coffee. Oh dear .

Yet another Fantastic takeaway roast from The Orchards! Piping hot, plenty of it & such good value for money. Friendly, helpful staff. Great for sitting in to eat too, but was solo today & needed to grab & go. The Orchards staff only needed 20 mins for me to pre order. Can’t fault this service on a Sunday!

We were visiting the area and ate here on a Friday night. Food was really good with an authentic homemade taste. I had a steak and ale pie made with proper pastry, served with excellent veg and superb chips. My wife had a warm chicken salad which was also delicious. Malteser ice cream for pudding was great all washed down with a couple of pints of excellent local bitter/ cider. Friendly staff. Seemed a little quiet for a Friday night. Pubs such as these deserve to succeed and need our support. Would definitely return.

Went with a friend for Sunday lunch, past this pub so many times, but it was my first time in. I had a small portion roast dinner, which was a very generous portion, and only £8.95. My friend had ham double egg and chips which came with a salad, which all looked amazing. Had a generous scoop of icecream for pudding. Will be going again soon. Highly recommend and was able to take our dogs if you seat in the bar end. Staff very friendly

One of the things that lets most pubs down is that the food is not freshly cooked: you could not say that of the Orchard at Galhampton. The food is very good - clean plates all round (!) and the service friendly and efficient. I think charging pro rata for each scoop of ice cream is a bit steep, after all, the overheads remain the same however much I eat so if one scoop is £2 then 2 scoops shouldn't be any more than £3 and three scoops £4. However, it is good ice cream even if very expensive.

We went on recommendation of other customers. We got there early lovely waitress but sadly or chips had been left over from previous night as they were very oily in Fact not like chips at all! The rest of the meal okay except the gammon was very thin. We had a bottle of French wine but we were not shown the cork and had a feeling it was a bottle which had been refilled from a box it was certainly not good wine and not worth the money. I am sorry to bring these points up but if the owners are to make a go of this I think they should be careful in what they do especially with people that eat out regularly and are employed by a wine company

Seven of us met up at The Orchard for our lunch - we meet up every other month at a different venue. The bar was very cosy while we waited for all to arrive, and then we were presented with the menus. There were two menus, light lunch and the main menu, both of which were very appetising. We made our choices and were called in a little while later once the food was ready. Between us we had ordered six different meals and we were all pleased with the quality of the food, even the light lunch menu was very filling. If you do not like raw peppers I would recommend that you inform the waitress as they are very generous with the raw peppers in their salads. Some of us finished with coffee which was very tasty and not at all bitter.

Good atmosphere as soon as you enter, on a cold night the fire was lit and gave a very comforting feel. Greeted as soon as we got to the bar and quickly escorted to our table which was nicely appointed and tastefully decorated. It was also plenty big enough for the four of us. We had placed our food orders a fortnight before hand, due to it being a very busy time of year, and the food soon appeared after the drinks had been organised. We have heard several good reports of the Orchard Inn recently so thought we should go along to try it for ourselves. Firstly, I like the idea of two size portions being offered on their lunch time menu. There is little worse than returning a plate having left a large part of the meal, especially when the food itself has been good, but just to much to eat. I chose their fish of the day (cod) and then was offered it either fried in their own beer batter or grilled (never been offered the choice before) I love fish and it was about the best fish and chips I have ever been offered, even compered with some of the best fish restaurants on the coast. The size portion was just about right and I still had room to enjoy one of their home made sweets. At £10.95 for the main and sweet, I consider this to be excellent value and we will certainly be going back again. My wife was equally impressed with her meal. The staff were friendly and very efficient, the meal even being served up by one of the owners. You will not beat this pub for service, food and value.

This pub is down the road from us and we've seen it change hands a fair few times over the years, but (fingers crossed!) we seem to have struck gold this time. The owners are very warm and friendly and the staff they have employed are very pleasant and professional. The pub is very pretty inside and has a nice seating area if you just want to pop in for a drink and a catch up, and also has a wider restaurant with a conservatory for extra space, which makes for a pleasant dining experience. The food is really good, the fish and chips is absolutely faultless and the desserts are to die for. They really are exceptionally good. My only criticism would be that there isn't enough choice for vegetarians, but I've noticed that they are not alone when it comes to Somerset pubs in lacking in substanial veggie options. Still, I would imagine that perhaps if you phoned up in advance, they would be happy to try and accommodate you, as they are very hard-working and pleasant people. Well worth a try, you won't regret it.

Lovely food, particularly the wonderful chips! We both ate from the set menu, but I was able to opt for the smaller portion section and that enabled me to sample the dessert as well - very good. Highlight was probably the home made pie, my partner is something of a pie taster (!) and rated it extremely highly. Set menus offer outstanding value for money. Service prompt and very kind and helpful. We would like to go back and try Sunday lunch but know we would need to book as this place is unsurprisingly popular. Only down side is that the restaurant area has no outlook (metal hoardings around the pub car park screen off adjacent bare site awaiting development!) - think if I were in charge I would resort to some net curtains with nice designs on like they have in restaurants in France for at least the lower 2/3 of the windows to the side (view to the rear is of a plain but well kept pub garden so that is okay!).

Visited the Orchard on early evening on a Saturday. The people were very friendly and was initially pleased with our choice of venue. Menu was very small and looked rather expensive but not to matter as thought we were in for a treat. My wife and I had the mushrooms for starters and they were delicious. For mains we both had sirloin steaks cooked medium. They were tough and tasteless and with a fair share of gristle. The battered onions were toasted like crisps and the chips were not fresh. The desert, the cheesecake was fabulous probably the best I have tasted. We waited 20 minutes for the bill. I wasn't asked if we would like another drink. In fact I had to go back to the bar to get served.Very mediocre experience and not great value at all. Much better restaurants in the area with better food and certainly better service.

I've eaten here half a dozen times since the new management have taken over, and have never had a disappointing meal. On paper the food appears and, is priced as Pub food. I've paid a lot more in restaurants and not seen or tasted better. It was the thoughtful service this mothers day that compelled me to write a review. My father in law wears a hearing aid. The landlord noticed this he asked if we would like a quiet table. I was alone at the bar ordering a drink and enquired why he had offered a this table. He told me that he knew hearing aid wearers generally preferred quieter tables.

Lunch time visit, had the fish and chips, the chips are double cooked, makes for a crispy tastier chip, much better than the catering variety chips, the fish was very good, nice thin batter and succulent fish, came with a small salad and peas with tartar sauce.

Had booked after checking reviews on tripadviser, but was very disappointed, food average, service for drinks very slow.On arrival bar area quite busy with drinkers loud and foul language, luckily I was having a business meeting and not an evening with my wife.

Looking to eat lunch out I took to trip adviser and found this little pub and so pleased I did. The welcome was warm and friendly, the guiness was great and the food was delicious. My main of chicken on a bed of bubble and squeak topped with goats cheese with pink peppercorn sauce was excellent and was Matt's Lamb curry I am told. Although we didn't need it as the portions were good, we were tempted and ordered desserts. They really were absolutely luscious. A most enjoyable lunch in a great little pub. Top marks!

Love the fact that they have a good small plate menu, which gives a more than adequate portion size. Very friendly

We had lunch here on Friday 3rd March 2017. The meal was fresh cooked, and the staff were friendly, efficient and attentive. Don't be put off by the car park which has temporary metal barriers around it to divide it off from an adjacent building site.Only disappointment was the price of a small bottle of mineral water which was charged at £2.50. An examination of the bottle indicated that the product supported a charity, which probably explains the inflated price.

Matt's coooking never fails to disappoint. Great menu choices and excellent quality of food. We were a party of five with three for whom it was their first visit to The Orchard and they all agreed they would be returning soon. Darren greeted us with his usual friendly, warm welcome. Such a cosy and welcoming pub with food that is excellent value for money.

Despite being a regular at this pub and always enjoying the beer, atmosphere and food this was my first Sunday lunch there. Three of us had starters, main course (roast beef) and our daughter had a pudding too.£9.95 for a very well prepared roast beef lunch is amazing value and the vegetables, yorkshire pudding, potatoes and gravy were all delicious - decent fresh veg perfectly cooked. As usual the staff were fantastic, friendly and service was quick and faultless.I have had sunday lunches for twice the price that didnt come close to this one.

Visited 9 Feb 2017 on a themed evening. The theme was "steak night". Staff very attentive. Steaks cooked to order exactly as requested. All meat is sourced locally from a top class butcher. The Orchard is a free house with guest ales. I tried the pulled duck breast starter and my wife had a prawn avocado salad with sauce. We then had a rib eye steak each, cooked as requested. There were choices of other cuts plus for those with large appetites a mixed grill of beef, pork and lamb steaks all served with chunky chips, peas and tomato. All at reasonable prices. Other themed nights included a sausage and mash night, a curry evening plus special quiz nights for teams . They also serve lunches with a choice of smaller portions for those with smaller appetites. I could thoroughly recommend this pub for great meals and service.

Myself and 3 friends visited the orchard for the Christmas set menu meal. The pub was decorated beautifully with a cosy warm log burner next to the tree. All courses were plentiful and tasty, not mass produced like some others do this time of year. We were given a xmas cracker and a choice of coffee/tea with a yummy mince pie at the end. Really good value. Totally recommend and will be back. Thank you

Made to feel welcome immediately. Very friendly people. We ordered drinks at the bar and asked about lunch. We hadn't booked. Extremely accommodating and set us a table in the bar area. Wood burning stove in the bar. Lovely! When the very polite waitress took our order for food, I asked if I could bring my German Shepherd in. More than happy for Koo to sit in the bar with us during lunch. Several other diners came to greet my dog, including the owner bearing roast beef gifts. The previous owner, now retired and a regular local customer, also engaged us in conversation and enjoyed petting the dog too. This is not about the dog, although she was made unconditionally welcome :)This is a lovely traditional, friendly and wholesome English pub. Ran in a very orderly and professional manner by genuine people. The food was lovely too :D, although I nearly forgot to mention it in the warmth of remembered enjoyment.Soppy I know but we had a really good lunch amongst real nice people. Thank you and look forward to the next visit. This pub deserves to do well.

Our lunch club goes to a different pub every month. One can get quite critical comparing them. However, over several years and many miles,I have yet to enjoy the food as much as the Orchard Inn produced. The Chef has that happy knack of developing dishes which are basically 'good pub grub' but which have a subtle difference which lifts them into another realm. Rarely if ever have I enjoyed a chicken breast more tender, moister but with full flavour served with a smooth, creamy mushroom & Dijon sauce. He also has a knack with a coffee & walnut cheesecake the like of which I doubt could be bettered. How nice to enjoy such luxury in a very traditional pub ambience with such unobtrusive yet efficient service. Well done, you two!

On a longish journey today and sought a pleasant lunch. I was grateful to see a 'small appetite ' menu for myself, but my husband enjoyed a (large portion)delicious steak pie followed by a beautiful sundae! Welcoming and obliging staff and we felt very relaxed and refreshed. We were both impressed by the standard of the food, so very worth a 3 minute detour off the A303.

My wife and I popped in for an evening meal.We had never been in the pub before despite living within a short drive away.On entering we were very impressed with decor, yet they have still managed to maintain character and even a dart board discreetly hidden possible for the locals. The pub was fairly empty when we went in a family eating in the conservatory, so we decided to sit in the front bar area. The food choices were good, and a few twists on some classic dishes.Food arrived very quickly and was truly wonderful. You could tell there was a lot of effort and pride gone into the preparation of the meals. The staff I presume the owners were very welcoming without being too in your face. They appear to have really tried to keep a local pub yet have upped their game to attract diners.Highly recommended we will return.

Came here Monday for lunch. Had often passed The Orchard but never stopped in. We both ordered the steak and ale pie and it did not disappoint. When our food first came out my partner said it was a small portion and he wished he'd upgraded to the £9.95 main meal but upon eating it decided it was deceptively filling and the perfect size for lunch!! Really delicious food, lovely clean surroundings and extremely friendly staff.... We will definitely be back for an evening meal very soon :)

A last minute decision to go for lunch with my dad who is in his 90’s. We will be returning. As I mentioned, my dad is in his 90’s and for the first time in a very long time he felt included in the conversation when ordering food and drinks as the staff lowered themselves to his eye level so he could hear and understand what they were saying. Absolutely first class service and I just want to say how much we valued this attention. The food was fabulous and cooked to perfection. I have recommended your establishment to so many family and friends today. Thank you.

Excellent Sunday Lunch! We had pork and Beef larger and smaller size. All were excellent. Succulent meat, beautifully carved and excellent crackling! Potatoes and vegetables all faultless- five veg including cauliflower cheese. Great value for money too. Drinks nice and cold. Excellent staff. Hit some balls on the range afterwards- perfect Sunday! (Clubs available to borrow if you don’t have your own including junior ones)

We had a very warm welcome at the White Hart. Our room was spacious, clean and warm - but it could do with some updating e.g. the basin had a crack in it, the shower had a bit of mould, and the shaving light didn't work. The decor looked tired overall. We had a very nice breakfast (again, the dining-room could do with a bit of redecoration) - but it was served with great enthusiasm and cheefulness!

On phoning the Barrington Boar to book a lunch reservation for 4 people, 2 vegetarians and 2 vegans, I was informed this is not the place if you are a vegetarian or vegan.
