The best restaurants in Wessex South Somerset South West

As ever, Alessandro has got it right! The pizze are always great and he's always got a smile on his face. We go here regularly (pre-order and stop for a pint on the way!). I always have the carnivore (extra spicy) and the wife always has a margharita and at £18 for the two, a real bargain. He's only there Thursday, Friday and Saturday and it's always best to pre-order to ensure he hasn't run out of pizza dough! He's also in nearby Long Sutton on Wednesdays. Especially recommended

2 dinners running at this fantastic country pub. The vegetarian food was exceptional. First evening we mentioned there wasn’t a lot of vegetarian meals. 2nd evening a special vegetarian menu. That’s what I call customer service. If you are in the area make this your number one choice.

Lunch on Friday best liver and bacon I’ve had in a long time . Good hot hot chocolate. Busy place very competent and polite staff 😊

We dined at 28 Market Place on Friday March 31st, a birthday meal. We were delighted by both the food and the service. The menu is reassuringly small, but sufficiently varied, and both my pickled mackerel starter and lamb rump main were very well cooked and presented, as were my wife’s linguine and cod. .Though certainly not cheap, it was fairly priced and good value, and considerably less expensive than the only plausible (though excellent) local rival in Bruton. Overall, it was a pleasurable experience, and we would be delighted to come again.

Great welcome on a cold wet spring Bank Holiday. Great food at good value. Drinks top grade. Poppy serving from bar very friendly and helpful. A smile and a joke.

Such a friendly team in a lovely pub atmosphere. Good selection on the menu, with food coming out in good time. Great quality ingredients

Terrible service and ignored by staff. Waited for 40 minutes and customers came in after us who were served straight away. Was told they will take our order, but no one came and they made it obvious thay they had no intention of taking our order. Would not recommend ☹️

I can only imagine that the people who write excellent reviews have never been out of Somerton or experienced what truly great fish and chips is like. If your idea of the perfect fish and chip supper is greasy chips and soggy batter on the fish, then you will love this place, if however you prefer light and crispy batter that has a bit of a crunch and nice fluffy chips that don’t need the fat wringing out of them, then I truly recommend you go elsewhere

The food at the Spice Gallery is outstanding. If eating in you need to create your own atmosphere as a little bland! Take your own alcohol and good friends. Service a little underwhelming but made up for freshly cooked food beautifully presented and delicious

New owners have most definitely turned that place around. Everything we order has been top notch, we get pizzas and chicken Kebabs and they've always been outstanding and now the cans of pop are even cold, where as at one point they were very warm and not nice to drink. The new owners are very friendly and don't disappoint. Definitely worth the 5 stars now ✨️ From David & Kayleigh :D

Not one to often leave a bad review but.. we ordered a few things, sides were ok, but we ordered buratta and instead got a solid mozzarella ball, not a drop off creaminess inside. And the purple Additionally I had a ceaser salad that had about 50g of chicken on the plate, some romaine lettuce and a sprinkle of crispy bacon. The "ceaser dressing" was just mayonnaise, with maybe a hint of mustard which was shocking to see. Extremely disappointed with the food and the fact they used fancy words in the menu, presumably to entice you, and then didn't deliver. Only reason I am not giving a one star is cause the server was apologetic and agreed to refund us fir the two terrible meals.

Myself and my friends went for our first on Easter Sunday and had the Carvery. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. The staff were welcoming and attentive. Also they have a great selection of alcholic and non alcoholic drinks. Would 100% recommend.
