Great little pub and good atmosphere albeit a little loud for us 🤣. Staff were very friendly and the local ale on offer was great. Food was decent too. Not huge variation in the menu for us but worth a visit for sure.

First time here, myself and my friend was trying to find a pub with a ploughman’s. This pub didn’t only deliver on service but also amazing food. We were welcomed as if we were locals, friendly chat with the staff who were knowledgable and attentive. We were promised a great ploughman’s that really delivered! The ploughman’s had a selection of tasty cheese’s, beautiful bread, amazing chutney, fresh salad, coleslaw and pickles. I enjoyed myself so much that I will be returning next week with my wife. I highly recommend trying this place but, have been told it is best to book.

I loved this place! Appears to be In quite an isolated position but in reality is near to small townships. A traditional pub. We had a very enjoyable lunch, tasty and good hearty portions went down well. They have an amazing choice of ales which I could not appreciate at lunchtime and places to go but another visit beckons. The owners and staff were friendly and helpful. We all would have no hesitation in returning.

We no longer enjoy coming here for dinner, I'm afraid to say. The prices for the meals have gone up quite a lot, yet everything seems to have low-quality ingredients. There is not that much choice on the menu, either. This time the cottage pie was really fatty, it didn't have mashed potatoes on top (probably too much work), instead it came with almost raw slices of potato. The chicken burger was advertised as coming with chips, coleslaw and "salad", however, when it arrived, there was no salad on the plate. When enquiring about it, I was told it was part of the burger. Well, yes, there was a bit of lettuce and a small slice of tomato in it. Not how I had imagined it, though. We come here regularly, but in future we might just come for an ale and perhaps some chips - we'll get our proper food elsewhere after the last few experiences. What a shame.

What a disappointment! We booked a table for a family lunch to celebrate my husbands birthday. Service was very poor, actually nonexistent. We were told our table was "round the corner", we sat and waited to have our order taken. Once we realised everyone who arrived after us was getting their food, we realised that we had to order at the bar... would have been nice to be told that! The food selection was very limited, usual bar food with a few ordinary specials. I ordered a venison and chorizo burger, it was utterly tasteless. My sons onion tart he said was average. Best thing on our plates was the chips. Waitress staff were disinterested in any sort of customer service, no one asked if we had everything or was everything alright... nothing!!! Took ages to have our plates taken away and yet again we had to order pudding at the bar. When I went to pay...... at the bar!! , the bill was put in front of me to "happy"? No how was your meal?, or thank you for coming. For a pub with such awards we expected so much better. Oh and my pimms.... was so transparent I question whether there was any Pimms in it at all, Ive never had one like that.... Shame, I run a holiday cottage, I'm afraid you don't get my recommendation and we certainly won't be coming back again.

My husband and I went to the halfway on our way home as we thought it was a dog friendly pub. We have 2 dogs, one confident and rarely barks, and the other one who is very nervous, but we have been working with her to build her confidence. Our dog had been doing really well at The Pound in Aller and the Prince Alfred at Burrowbridge, so we wanted to widen her experience. We chose the Halfway House at Langport, as we saw on line, it was dog friendly. Sadly as my dog, although I was using training techniques to try to calm her, when a couple came to sit near us, our nervous dog, was more nervous. The couple were lovely and continued to talk to us while we calmed our dog, understanding she was scared. Sadly the bar staff spoke to us, and said, your dog is barking, people are eating. I could not do more than I was to mange the training, so told the bar person, we would finish our drinks and leave. He said, it wasn’t him, it was everyone else. This was not very helpful. The people we were taking to said they often have evenings when they have lots of dogs and they can become barky and hoped they would see us again. We will not be going back again, some pubs are child friendly and you expect some noise from children, I thought a dog friendly pub would understand some noise from dogs, especially those who the owner is trying to help increase their confidence. We understand the establishment can decide who they want in their business. I thought we were going to be in a pub who understood nervous dogs, but this was not the case. We now understand the owners want to allow dogs, not not nervous dogs. This is a lovely pub, but only wants quiet dogs.

Staff did not control what was happening. We asked to move but could not be facilitated. Really tasty, nice lean melt in your mouth roast beef, and plenty of fresh veg and gravy! And the puddings were seriously to die for! I tasted two and they have got me wanting to return very soon indeed! The Mocha Cheesecake and the Pear, Apple & Walnut Crumble with real custard and plenty of it. Well done the Halfway House. We visited on Saturday evening as a party of 9, we've been to the Halfway houses on a number of occasions and have always found it to be a fantastic venue with excellent food. I am given to understand that the venue might be under new management, if it is, then it's great to see that the food is just as awesome as before. My wife had the steak and mushroom pie, it had a thin shortcrust pastry top and was filled with large chunks of steak and the gravy (which she let me dunk a chip into) took me back to my school days, it was delicious. I only had a bowl of chips and a bowl of beans as I had eaten earlier, otherwise, I would have had the scampi as you might expect if you follow these reviews. I would have posted pictures but frankly, the food was gone too soon. In terms of facilities, there is a couple of steep steps down to the main entrance but I believe there is step-free access to the side, there is also a disabled parking space right outside, next to the large casks. The toilets might be disabled-friendly if you are in a wheelchair, I won't lie it's going to be a tad snug, especially if there is someone standing at the facilities, engaged in the removal of bodily fluids... We will obviously be going back, the Halfway house is ideally suited to meeting with family as it is halfway between our houses, plus the quality of food is just mwah...(insert chef-kiss emoji).

Tried to book a table for Sunday lunch and was told we were not able to but to arrive before 11.45 as two tables were for first come first served. We endeavoured to get there by 11.35 and was told we could have a table in the bar. The lady in charge then appeared and said a larger party had phoned and would have the table in question and there was nothing else as we were only 2 people. She was very unwelcoming and rude - making it obvious we were not welcome - obviously money meant more than customers. This is not the way to treat people and we will not be recommending again. We then went to The Firepit in Curry Rivel who bent over backwards to accommodate us. The meal was amazing and the staff first class so thank you we will be back !!

My wife and I paid L30 for two roast beef dinners (ehh on no choice on how cooked so basically brown meat). The meal comes with broiled potatoes, red cabbage, baby carrots and classic big chef hat style Yorkshire pudding with one full and one...

I have reviewed this pub before and have nothing more to add really in the context of staff, food and beer (all still very good). However, I felt compelled to write again following our visit last Friday to Mark's (landlord) 10 year anniversary. Firstly, thank...

The Halfway House is a great place to visit for a beer and food. There's a very friendly atmosphere and real fires in the winter. My biggest criticism is the lack of vegetarian choice (& forget it if you're vegan) - the rest of the...

What a great pub/restaurant. I'm new to the area so was introduced by family to this friendly pub. There were 5 of us for lunch and 4 had Fish & Chips which I also had and was superb. The staff were very friendly and make you feel like a regular. Will be returning

Have often called in for a couple of drinks, there is an excellent choice of really good beer and cider. No unwanted distractions like piped music, big screen televisions or gaming machines. Very comfortable surroundings - easy to strike up a conversation if you want, or keep to yourself if you don't!We called in with my sister who was visiting us from France and had a lovely Sunday roast (lamb - it alternates each week) couldn't fault the food or the service and a very fair price given the quality.

We popped here after a busy morning in Glastonbury as the weather turned from a grey start to a scorching summers day; quickly using trip advisor to find us a pub with a garden we set off to here.We received a very friendly welcome to what I'd describe as a real/proper country pub it was as the name suggests a house inside with lots of nooks and crannies with seating, with a large option of cider and ales plus a pretty varied menu. We each had a cider and sat outside in their long side garden (which had a place area at the back for kids although tempted to go on the swing I thought best to wait until after lunch). The lunch was excellent, crusty thick cut bread for their sandwiches and generous portion of chips between made sure we were full and content in the sun to finish our ciders . . . Should also admit here that as it got so hot we scampered for the shade to finish our drinks!

Booked for dinner but on arrival, they thought we had booked for buffet, fortunately they had a table for us within a short time so we had a pre-dinner drink in the bar, which is fabulous and then went for a lovely meal in the Bistro, it is a small and intimate restaurant and quite modern and food is served on hot rocks, which you cook yourself to your own taste. Nice concept and food was really lovely BUT find that it gets pretty smoky when it is very busy. This is not a unique concept to us and it was a very nice change. Service was attentive and good and wine selection is great. Little pub at the Langport Arms is friendly and wonderful for pre or post drinks too.

Simply the best Fish and Chip shop around. You can get most of the menu as a gluten free option too. The staff are fantastic too. Thank you everyone for your wonderful service 😍

What a delightful place to stay at. We stayed for a couple of nights to visit the surrounding area and had the friendliest welcome and comfortable stay. James, the waiter in the evening, was a credit to them. He helped you choose what to eat and was attentive and friendly. The food was outstanding, especially the fish dishes. The breakfast was the best we have ever had and was cooked to order with local produce. Cannot wait to return.

The chip shop has been closed for a while due to staff going on holiday. Last night we very much enjoyed our chips, chicken and curry sauce.
