The restaurant was recommended to us. Beautiful interior design. The food .. starters were good, but as others have said, the pasta portions were more starter size. We ordered the Pappardelle Gorgonzola and pappardelle cacciatore. Now there is seasoning food with salt, but this was way beyond that ! The meals were both so salty that we simply couldn’t enjoy the meals and ended up leaving about 1/3 each. Indigestion all night and still tasting the salt. On the plus, the staff were very attentive. Our particular young lady was superb.

We had a very poor experience. The restaurant was dominated by a huge TV playing MTV soundtracks, the restaurant looked shabby and untidy. We tried to order the mixed platter, but were told they only did that at the weekend, so we settled on a mixture of steaks and spare ribs between the 4 of us. The ribs were very small, like a kids portion, they were served cold and sent back. The steaks were served half cooked on a hot stone, which, coming from France, we adore, but instead of being served sliced uncooked, they are served in a half cooked chunk, on the hot stone. So you start off rare and end up well done. They have no idea how to serve this dish. The chips were frozen. The steak wasn’t bad, it was ok, but I’d expect special from a restaurant that specialises in steak and has such great reviews. It was expensive, the food was poor, the ambiance was awful, the decor was cheap and grim. I have no idea how this place gets so many good reviews….. that’s why I went. Pop your head in before you book, you might change your mind. I realise people enjoy different things, but a good steak is a good steak, we would have forgiven everything else if we’d had a great steak, or lovely home made ribs….. we didn’t.

Gorgeous place! So lovely and the food was delicious and staff were friendly. Star has been dropped as the placement of the baby changing in the ladies loo is very problematic. It’s right underneath an automatic hand drier, so one quick swipe or wave of hands from baby and they get blasted with air making everyone jump! This happened twice. I tried turning her around but unfortunately facing the sink and having her feet that end was worse because that’s where all the action is. I would recommend a hand dryer you push or a note for people to maybe switch off a switch (if accessible) prior to changing nappies or just moving the dryer to the opposite side? Lovely scone though! Thank you

The rear car park is unsurfaced which makes it a puddled obstacle course when wet. We had booked a table in a dog free zone but we were given Hobson’s Choice, fortunately there were no dogs in the restaurant that day. However this inauspicious start to our meal was redeemed by the attentive service and good food.

Fantastic service and generous portions. We thought it was great value for money.. They also accept card payments now for those who don’t carry cash. A really lovely family run place. We will be back next time we are in Tiverton.

Enjoyed a delicious meal at Penquen Fish Bar! The cod was enormous and perfectly cooked—so fresh and tasty. The chips were equally great, crispy on the outside and soft inside. Overall, a fantastic takeaway experience. Highly recommend this spot for anyone craving quality fish and chips!"

The prices of food and drink are all in line with other national trusts, a little more on the expensive side for someone with an average wage, but that’s ok. Of all the national trust restaurant we go to, I seem to enjoy this one the most, the staff seem really friendly and kind and are always doing their best to get through the hoards of people that visit on the weekends. Keep up the good work, you’re doing great.

Myself and four other friends had a Cream tea and High Afternoon tea's and it was all superb. We were there celebrating an 80th birthday and we all had a wonderful time in homely relaxing surroundings. The ladies serving us were extremely welcoming, polite and couldn't do enough to make our visit special, it was so plentiful we couldn't eat all on offer. Highly recommend.
