Gorgeous place! So lovely and the food was delicious and staff were friendly. Star has been dropped as the placement of the baby changing in the ladies loo is very problematic. It’s right underneath an automatic hand drier, so one quick swipe or wave of hands from baby and they get blasted with air making everyone jump! This happened twice. I tried turning her around but unfortunately facing the sink and having her feet that end was worse because that’s where all the action is. I would recommend a hand dryer you push or a note for people to maybe switch off a switch (if accessible) prior to changing nappies or just moving the dryer to the opposite side? Lovely scone though! Thank you

Popped in with the dog for a cream tea after a walk by the canal having time to kill before going to Tiverton Parkway. Just want we wanted. Scones were warmed without asking, additional butter provided with no extra charge. Nice friendly greeting as we entered. Would definitely come back again. The dog enjoyed the doggy ice cream too!

We visited here whilst on hols from Wales. Decided to have lunch before heading up to the canal. What a lovely tea garden this is! Lovely setting with seats inside or outside, lovely atmosphere here and quick service. Ploughman’s was the best I’ve had here as well, actually mailed them today to see what chutney they used. Hope to visit again.

Unfortunately this Tea room has changed hands so I believe. We found a table and I approached the desk to place my order. The girl quite obviously didn't want to be there,I asked a question she didn't reply, no manners not a please or thank you. The two people doing the waiting were very polite and helpful. We will think twice about going back there.

We visited the Canal tea rooms and enjoyed a lovely high tea and selection of savoury and sweet cream teas between us. The food was incredible and the service was great. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was perfect. We enjoyed sitting outside but I loved that there was the opportunity to sit under cover too. I would definitely recommend it to anyone. Thank you 😊

Great prompt and friendly service. Lovely surroundings. Had lunch with husband and friend prior to boarding the barge for a pre-booked trip. We arrived for coffee and booked a table for 4 for lunch to follow a walk alongside the canal. We are glad that we did because the tea rooms/gardens were busy by the time we arrived back. The food was served promptly by friendly and helpful staff. Three of us had a jacket potato with a tuna mayonnaise topping, side salad and coleslaw. The topping was plentiful and the salad fresh and colourful. The coleslaw looked homemade and was tasty. The other member of our group had a steak pasty with salad and chips, all of which were enjoyed. The toilets were very clean. Sitting in the garden in the sunshine, the setting was pleasant and attractive but seating and tables were available both indoors and under cover for cooler or wetter days. An enjoyable experience which we all highly recommend. We shall return.

Very disappointed! We use to visit this place a lot, but realised we hadn't been for a while when we noticed a few changes. We think it's changed management?? We ordered a tuna and mayo white baguette, a cheese and ham on brown, a sausage roll and tea for 2. Apart from the disgusting 'taste' of the margarine they over spread on the bread we couldn't taste any tuna or the bland cheese. The tea was so weak and tasteless I couldn't drink it. We even had to go and get an ice cream from the canal cafe barge to try and take the 'taste' of the margarine away. We won't be returning.

We happened to come across this gem of a place when visiting Grand Western Canal from Kent. I had Prawn Sandwiches and my husband had a baguette. The food was served in a reasonable time, considering it was lunchtime and fairly full. The sandwiches were tasty and full to the brim. All I would say is that my iced coffee with two scoops of icecream, was actually warm. I was hoping on a nice refreshing drink to cool me down on a hot day. No ice cubes in it either, but all in all a lovely lunch, topped off by an icecream each before we left.

Appalling service. Waited nearly half an hour for 2 cups of tea, one coffee and one piece of cake. After complaining about the wait the order was then brought to the table. Unfortunately the cake was inedible as it was still frozen. There were numerous staff in the kitchen but there seemed to be noone who had any idea of time management and getting orders out quickly, even a small order of drinks and cake had to wait until they had all finished preparing larger orders, surely they could have had someone who could have dealt with pouring a few cups of tea and putting a piece of cake on a plate without too much problem! After complaining about the cake being frozen the manager or owner came and asked if I wanted a refund, he seemed a bit surprised when I said yes. His apology was, 'sorry it's been very busy'. Well I'm sorry but if you are running a catering business like this you need to manage the orders better. This was our first vist here and it will be our last.

Fine for standard fare such as drinks, tea/coffee and scones, jam & cream. Nice home made lemonade. Far too long a wait for sandwiches or salad (>25min and >20 min after arrival of other items ordered by the rest of the party) so we ended up cancelling that order and leaving. Whilst there are signs saying be patient during busy periods it wasn’t an acceptable wait.

A lovely setting, spoiled by a very second-rate service, visited 17th September table order No. 61. The scones were disappointingly small and uninspiring. The strawberry jam was opaque and cheap The clotted cream was white in colour instead of creamy yellow. No butter provided This was the worst example of a Cream tea, we have ever experienced-I am ex-RAF Chivenor, and return to Devon, annually. This is the poorest example of a Devon Cream tea, and quality sacrificed upon the altar of maximum profit, and indifference to customers.

On holiday in Devon and Googled for a cafe, liked the look of this so headed over. Pleasantly surprised by the gardens and seating (most undercover) as it was a very wet day. We both ordered jacket potatoes and a pot of tea. Pleased to see not only did we each get a pot of tea but also a pot of hot water. Annoys me that more places don't do this. The jacket potato came with a huge side salad, a huge amount of coleslaw and a huge potato with filling. Excellent value but I couldn't finish it. Overall I was very pleased by the cafe and would recommend.

Stopped for a cream tea after a walk along the canal. Pretty little tea room with thatched roof and nice garden with ample seating both inside and out. Dog friendly too which is good as we had our dog with us. We have had two weeks in Cornwall and Devon and had a number of cream teas, each time the scones have been huge and we have shared one each and bought an extra drink. We expected the same here but the scones were tiny. Lots of jam but not much cream even for two small scones. Expected more for £5.75. Scones themselves were ok but nothing special. Other cakes looked like a better deal and we wished we had opted for something else.

My wife and I decided to have a ploughman’s lunch here after completing the horse drawn canal boat ride.To be fair it was a lovely day and the garden was pretty full so we expected some delay in food delivery. When we placed our order we were told that a wait of 20 to 30 minutes might ensue. After waiting some 45 minutes or so we asked a passing waiter how much longer? He was polite but said “can’t really say could be another 10 minutes” we had decided to ask for our money back when the food suddenly arrived! The quality was adequate rather than good, quantity was good. However the long delay spoiled our visit. I guess that at peak Summer times the kitchen process is overloaded, but surely that comes down to more peak time staff? You would be better off driving into ?Tiverton and finding a local pub/cafe!

It was a beautiful day when we were there so we sat in the garden. There is a display of teapots on the wall of the cottage and a serving hatch area where you order the food. We both had ham sandwiches on wholemeal bread. All the food is made fresh and then brought out to you. It was lovely and very popular on the day we were there. They also serve ice creams. A lovely spot to sit and relax and enjoy good food.

Good service and fabulous ploughmans. Carrot cake dry and disappointing but flapjack nice. Good value.

This was my first visit to the Canal Tea Rooms, but it definitely won’t be my last. Everyone’s really friendly, the location is great, and even if the weather’s wet there’s plenty of undercover seating. Because all the seating is in the garden, dogs are also very welcome, in fact there’s numerous bowls of water placed around the tables for them to drink from. I feel a warning is warranted however; if you plan on having the ploughman’s lunch make sure you bring a healthy appetite with you! It states on the menu it’s a generous portion, and they ain’t kidding

After walking along the stretch of canal and being soaked through. We made our way to the carpark, these tea rooms are situated at the end of the canal car park. It was pouring with rain and we had our dog with us. Dogs are welcome. The tea gardens are very pleasant but we sat under cover, a very large area, open sided seating area. Order at the serving hatch. Very efficient staff. Not a great choice of cake, but we were mid week, out of season and weather was awful. Though there were quite a few visitors. The food (chocolate brownie and lemon drizzle) were delicious. Lovely cup of tea as well. The tea rooms in nice weather, I should imagine would be delightful, though a lot more busy as well. Definitely recommend, but alas too far away for us.

A lovely quaint cottage that opens up into their beautiful back garden, where lots of table and chairs are available for eating. We admired their pretty garden. The cream tea went down very well

Really disappointed that their food hygiene rating has been 1 out of 5 for quite a while now. Myself and our other family members used to go here a lot until we saw the hygiene rating as we like the place and the people a lot. Hope they sort it soon so we can return.
