Warm welcome and superb meal as always. Paul and Sam make a dream Team serving delicious and appetising meals with a well stocked bar to compliment. We have never been disappointed. Last year, we had a celebration meal where over 30 people were all served a Sunday Roast and dessert of the same exceptional standard. Such a shame that some have felt the need to intentionally damage the reputation of this delightful pub where so much effort is made to please their customers.

Returned to this pub this summer as my wife enjoyed the beer-battered fish last time around. We'd not received particularly good service on that day as the owner wasn't at all welcoming and seemed to be in a mood, but thought we'd give them another chance. Unfortunately, this experience was even worse. We were a group of four but we asked to be sat near the window which had been set up as a table for six as the latter was much brighter and less cramped. We were told that we couldn't move tables in case a a group of six arrived. This would not usually be a strange or irrational reason for rejection, however, the pub was practically empty (one other table, I believe) and the table of four that we were on could have been easily turned into a table for six if needed for another group. Unsurprisingly, no other customers arrived during the whole visit and quite why we were refused such a simple request was a mystery. During the meal, we were not asked once if the food was ok, and we were not asked if we would like to see the dessert menu either. The childrens' meals were really poor in terms of both quality and quantity, as well. Overall, a very disappointing visit. A more welcoming attitude from the owner and a bit of common sense would have gone a long way.

We visited the Rose and Crown after a day out - and we wasn't disappointed. We were first in the door at 6pm, so was greeted and served straight away. They had a gluten free menu which was great for my coeliac husband.. food was cooked fresh and was absolutely delicious. The chips were to die for.. wow. We took our dogs, and there was no problem with that. Although they didn't have any baby changing facilities, they provided a room with a sofa that I could change my daughter on. Carpark was quite big too, so no problems with parking.

Friendly landlord, but sadly that’s the only positive. Worst roast dinner I’ve ever had. The potatoes tasted like they were deep fried in very old cooking oil, very wet cauliflower cheese but the cheese on top tasted and looked like melted burger cheese. Tough meat that was dry and unpleasant to eat. Not an enjoyable lunch at all ☹️

What an absolute gem of a find. We were looking for a meeting place halfway between North and South Devon for a family gathering the following day. Reviews seemed good so contacted Sam via their email. Almost instantly received a reply back, so a great first impression which is always important. We were a table of 9 so were asked if we could pre-book and menus including specials were sent over. No problem, totally understandable and happy to do so, it even mentions this on their website so was not a surprise. Again confirmation received almost as soon as I’d sent our requests through. On arrival the table was all set waiting, and we were given a warm welcome by the host Paul. The food was fantastic, the lamb shank plentiful and tender accompanied by a delicious mash and mint gravy sauce, the lasagne again was well recommended, as were all the dishes that came out. Then came desserts, which were equally incredible, and a great list to choose from too which should cater for all those with a sweet tooth. Huge compliments to the chef. Service was impeccable and Paul was always on hand to help and nothing was too much trouble. It is great to see a small business going from strength to strength having survived what was probably a difficult couple of years locked down, especially having taken the business on just months before everything was forced to close doors. I hope they continue to grow from strength to strength and wish them every success for the future. We will certainly be back.

AWFUL customer service!!! Had an issue with our steaks as they were medium to well done but we asked for medium rare. The landlord came and challenged us and tried to tell us they were cooked fine (in front of our whole family) instead of just accepting they got it wrong, after arguing about it for a few minutes he came back with 2 new steaks which were absolutely appalling! They were freezing cold almost like they’d been taken straight out of a fridge and put back on our plates! He obviously thought he’d try and be funny but when you’re paying £20 + for a meal it isn’t funny at all. No apology no nothing! We’ve come here before and the food was lovely no issues what so ever but after being treated like we were tonight we’ll never return. Awful awful service! The owner shouldn’t be running a business with an attitude like that! Vile behaviour! Shame on you!!!

Very prompt service (we ordered ahead as a party of 9). Food was ready within 10 mins of arrival. Bit of a mixed review as much food was really good. Unfortunately the fish (cod) for and adult and child’s was like reconstituted fish and was an odd pinky colour. We should have mentioned this at the time but didn’t want to make a fuss. I told the manager at the end. My fault, not his. The guy serving us (manager I believe) was helpful and accommodating.as well as friendly. Delighted that our well behaved beagle was allowed to sit under the table. From the outside the pub is very rundown as is the beer garden. It needs some tlc.

Arrived without booking for Sunday Lunch. I had the best Roast Beef ever in Devon. My wife had the smaller option of beef. We both had a dessert afterwards. She enjoyed the warm choc fudge cake. I had spotted dick with custard. All meals and drinks were reasonably priced and delivered to our table quickly by friendly staff. All food was very hot and plenty of it. Extra gravy and we were unable to finish the perfectly cooked veg, very generous portions and everything was delicious Entire experience was excellent. This place is a fantastic country pub, easily found on the Rackenford Road, at Calverleigh, only a couple of miles outside of Tiverton. We came in on the M5, turned in towards the hospital on Kennedy Way. Then took a right up the hill, towards Templeton and after a few miles, there it is on the right with plenty of parking. Well worth a visit. Highly Recommended by us.

Ate here last year 5/2/21, first off food was really nice, thoroughly enjoyed it! I found the staff quite rude and abrupt. Sadly not wanting to revisit now. EDIT: Just read your reply, and I have seen the date I have put, which was meant to be the 5/12/21. And no, I’m not someone with an axe to grind. I’m writing my review and opinion on The Rose and Crown in Calverleigh, Tiverton. You clearly don’t seem to take criticism well.

Nice evening at the Rose and Crown. Lovely food and a very friendly welcome. Great to have such a good pub so close to Tiverton.

My husband and I have frequented the Swan Neck cafe many times, as we walk along Tiverton canal regularly. The experience has always been fantastic - cakes, coffee, hot chocolate - top rate. However my experience today was somewhat disappointing. I paid £7.50 for the soup of the day and a roll. I was astonished to see when it arrived that it was a smallish coffee cup of soup, rather than a bowl, accompanied by a small white roll. £7.50! The soup was delicious but in my opinion it should have cost about half what was paid. I always try to support small independent businesses but I'm afraid today's experience has left me feeling rather wounded and that I have been taken advantage of. Definitely not value for money in my opinion. Sorry Swan Neck but you've got it wrong on this one.

We called in for something to eat but it cost us over sixteen pounds for two coffees and two bland cakes you could go to bridge house just up the road and for another three pounds you can have two large coffees with two large snacks ,etc, Welsh rarebit with masses of gammon .the decor does not suit the bakery though I suppose that's what you are paying for but l for one do not like being ripped off,why calling a bakery when you can't buy any bread or cakes as you have to order it days in advance and there isn't any thing on display in the window. They are trying to be an upmarket cafe in the wrong place.we won't bother going there again ,rather go up the road ., at least we won't be ripped off.

I visited this tea room whilst waiting for my bus to Umberleigh. After travelling from Preston, Lancashire I was happy to be able to relax with a coffee. The staff were really friendly and the place had a great vibe. City life can be a bit hectic so it was refreshing to visit this little tea room and we were even tempted with cake which was delicious!
