Great place with the best customer service, rooms are spacious with comfortable beds. We got a warm, freshly cooked vegetarian breakfast. The owner of this place is a big-hearted person. Will definitely stay again at this place in the future.

Rooms are lovely. Generously proportioned, great bed, bathroom and shower. Very comfortable. Breakfast excellent. Good choice and well prepared. I had cod and chips as an evening meal which was not great. Very greasy with soggy batter. Overall a good experience.

Had a friend's birthday meal in here last night for 12 of us. All of the other people in the party were locals so you would think the Owner would go out of her way to please them. How wrong can you be ??? Waited over an hour for our starter's and then they messed up the orders for the main course . People had finished their main course before I even received mine and some of the others were also in the same boat as me. When it did finally appear, the fish I had had been pinched off the local cat and quicky dipped in batter and fried, the peas were stone cold and the chips were fresh from McCain's. No apologies from the owner of the Pub at all and when we asked for a reduction in the bill we were offered a free bottle of wine ( between 12 of us !!!!!) Or £10.00 off the bill !!! I could understand a bit if the pub was busy but there were only 4 other people eating there the whole time we were in the pub. Shambolic from the minute she took our orders in my opinion.

We enjoyed a five day stay as a family in the family suite. This pub is brilliant. They have got it so right. Great staff, friendly locals, lovely food and beautiful rooms. Our second stay here and we keep coming back. The breakfasts are fabulous and enormous - felt totally stuffed for the rest of the day. Friendly and efficient staff and nothing is too much trouble. We loved the location and the rooms are relaxing and comfy. Immaculately clean. Had such a fantastic stay. Didn't want to go home.

Was booked in by the owner of our guest house as they hadn't got a chef that night. Reputation was pretty good but we noticed that they had a large family booking which seemed to take precedent to the average punters. The family were also noisy which didn't help but the main issue was the service which was a little 'hit & miss' i.e. had wrong order etc. They tried to rectify but I couldn't be bothered to be honest. Food was a little rich e.g chilli dish and had a steak without a steak knife which meant me clubbing away at it for a bit. School boy errors but OK in the end hence the average rating.

Visited with a really mixed crowd, a dog, a child, some old traditionalists (where nowts as good as it used to be!) and my wife! And all loved it, now pulling that off is no mean feat. The dog was awoken with two magical biscuits appearing before her very nose which went down very well and the food was excellent as was the beer, very well kept all in a lovely old building modernised with charm and an eye to retaining the character. All the staff were amazing.

Today we enjoyed an excellent Sunday lunch at the Red Lion. The roast beef in particular was excellent. And a special mention for the salted caramel brownie with Devon clotted cream. Such a friendly welcome and real ales on draught.

This place was horrible. I went with my mother my grandmother (her dog) and my brother. We sat down and could hardly fit. We waited almost an hour to get our food and it was average. Later on just before we were leaving someone had found a maggot in there food! On the positive side the staff were nice.

We visited the Red Lion this evening, the last night of our week long stay in Dulverton. We had a lovely experience, very friendly and attentive waitresses and excellent food. Only a small menu but good pub meals. The starters were huge and we all had steak, every one perfectly cooked and good quality, very nice chips too, the meal just lacked an onion ring or two! We were too full for dessert but based on the two previous courses, I’m sure they would be good. The pub had a very pleasant atmosphere and it was good to see it being enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

We were very surprised at the quality of the food. The steak was cooked perfect and was obviously locally sourced and of good quality. Even got home cooked chips not frozen. Well done

Our favourite pub. Just what a pub should be. We have made it our local and we live 8 miles away. Nothing too much trouble. They get my steak right every time. Great to see a village pub reopening and with a real commitment to make it work..

The food is wonderful and the staff are attentive and helpful. The pizzas are really tasty and if you can't finish it you get a take away box to eat it at home. The soup was delicious but as a starter the portion was a little big. You might have to park up the hill as there is no carpark but it will be worth the effort.

This is a genuine 'village local' inasmuch as it appears to be independently owned and operated. There are ancient rusted-on locals propping up the bar which was entertaining. Great atmosphere, plenty of choice in food and drink. Happy to return, or should that read ... HOPE to return.

Twelve of us had a very good value roast dinner and divine desserts. The service was great. Local village pubs have such a hard time of it, with changes in the way we live , eat, drink and entertain ourselves nowadays. It's great to go to one that is getting it right. Will revisit as soon as possible.

After a 4 hour walk in the area we went for lunch at the Red Lion. We both had sandwiches; cheese and pickle, and ham and pickle. Both came with home made chips and salad. Absolutely delicious. The landlady was most pleasant and attentive which is always appreciated. The bar area is dog friendly. The bar area has a great ambiance. We will definitely be visiting this place again.

We visited The Red Lion twice while staying nearby. We both had gammon which was virtually as big as the plate and seemed never ending, and was lovely. We came back on the Sunday for the carvery which was absolutely delicious! All of the staff were lovely too. We wish we lived closer as we would be regulars! My husband was a big fan of the open fire and could have quite happily stayed there all day!!

I last visited this hotel for Sunday lunch many years ago and had a bad experience. A group of us went there yesterday and wow! WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!Great decor, gorgeous food (cheesecake to die for). And really proper, decent coffee.Bright, cheerful and full of smiles. Traditional values and service - nothing was too much trouble - even when the original booking numbers were exceeded. The landlady and her manageress deserve to suceed and to be really well supported. In a very short space of time this has clearly become a great venue. We'll be back soon!Thank you

We can really, really recommend The Red Lion Hotel, Oakford, as a wonderful place to stay, with the added bonus of being the local village pub to boot. The owner Andy and all his staff are very welcoming and friendly, as are the locals so you instantly feel at home. We also brought our well behaved family dog with us and he was equally welcomed and made a fuss of by all. Our en suite bedroom had relaxing, tasteful decor and all the facilities one could possibly wish for, all was to a very high standard. The Full English breakfasts which we ate during our stay were well presented, very generous in portion size and most important of all delicious! As were the selection of Evening meals, which we enjoyably washed down with a lovely glass or two and continued on with us sitting round their cosy log burner for the remainder of the evening, chatting to others and soaking up the atmosphere. Our dog particularly enjoyed and made himself at home by the fire to. This is an ideal place and base to stay and eat. With easy access to an array of different things to do, including Exmoor for walking and riding, National Trust properties and pretty West Country towns to explore and relax in. Exceptionally good value for money. So much so we stayed an extra night and will be back soon.We loved everything, it was a brilliant place to stay and eat in.

I have been here twice now, once for an evening meal and once for Sunday lunch. It was a lovely setting as the first time we sat in front of the woodburner, very cosy. I had lasagne with a side order of chips, which they forgot and had to be reminded about, When they came, due to the hurry with which they were cooked, could've done with another 2 minutes in the fryer, but overall a tasty meal.We returned for the Sunday carvery in the summer. It didn't take long to be called for our 'turn' to go to the carvery and it looked lovely. The meats were tasty, excellent choice of vegetables and not soggy and overcooked! All looked hot and fresh and tasted great. They were attentive in their service and very helpful and accommodating as we had a 4 year old and 2 year old with us.Would definitely return again and particularly for Sunday lunch when we have guests.

We called in for something to eat but it cost us over sixteen pounds for two coffees and two bland cakes you could go to bridge house just up the road and for another three pounds you can have two large coffees with two large snacks ,etc, Welsh rarebit with masses of gammon .the decor does not suit the bakery though I suppose that's what you are paying for but l for one do not like being ripped off,why calling a bakery when you can't buy any bread or cakes as you have to order it days in advance and there isn't any thing on display in the window. They are trying to be an upmarket cafe in the wrong place.we won't bother going there again ,rather go up the road ., at least we won't be ripped off.
