Four of us went to Bickleigh Mill Restaurant for Sunday lunch, and by the time we left, we all had mixed feelings about the experience. I’m sorry to say this, but we won’t be returning to this establishment in hurry—nothing but disappointment from start to finish. Readers, save your cash and go to another place where they appreciate your business. It’s a real shame that we live in a society where there’s no welcoming smile from the staff at many establishments. Service * Food * Price * PS: B/M please take this comment as a feedback, not as criticism.

Love it here. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. The food is phenomenal. Quite expensive but you certainly get what you pay for. Menu is varied and they also have a specials board. HIGHLY recommend this place over the Fishermans Cot which is situated over the river. My only negative is that they don't open during the evenings!

We can’t comment on what else Bickleigh Mill has to offer as we only went there for lunch. We both had tuna mayo sandwiches, which were large and tasty with nice bread but, I thought, a little overpriced at £9.50. We also shared a cream tea, which was good.

Waited in a short queue for a very long time to be seated. Once seated we weren’t given a kids menu and i had to find one which was hard as not easy to get someone’s attention. Waited a further 20 mins and watched somebody taking orders from numerous people seated after us. Went to the bar to try and order some drinks and see if we could order at the bar. Was blanked by all four people behind the bar for a good few minutes. Gave up in the end and walked out to go somewhere that actually wanted to serve us. Not a great experience with an autistic child in the group.

This bistro sevedup the poorest excuse for a hamburger meal I have had in a restaurant. The meal took a long time to arrive so I was starving by the time it came. I was appalled that the hamburger was an overcooked burger patty on a totally dry burger bun devoid of anything else. No tomato or lettuce or anything apart from patty and bun with a small pot of fries and a couple of tablespoons of coleslaw. When the waitress asked how everything was I was offered the option to change my order but as I was so hungry and we had already had a long wait I declined. Strangely the other 3 meals all looked quite decent. I just don't understand who thought this was a decent burger. The waitresses were all polite but I still paid the full price (over£15) for this excuse for a meal.

This is all lovely setting but unfortunately let down by extremely slow service. We waited over an hour to have tea and cake, the cake I had was stale and the attitude of some of the staff was poor in fact rude. We asked for table water twice and never received it. We were given a five pound voucher as recompense but only if you spent over 25 in the shops. Disappointing experience for an Easter treat.

We booked a table at this charming bistro at Bickleigh mill craft centre . The weather to say the least was awful, however the warm welcome hub the staff beaming smiles and fabulous service warmed us . We eat off the special price menu, our party chose pate starter a large portion of pate beautiful side salads and delectable toasted breads. The other starter of garlic mushrooms on salad didn’t disappoint either. Main meals quickly arrived fish and chips, sausage and mash all generous in portion size and flavour, however the star was the amazing leek and mushroom risotto, the creamy sauce enhanced the taste, plentiful in mushrooms and high on flavour, the huge portion size could have been halved and I would not have been disappointed. A place to return to.

This venue was not a good experience. We took friends for lunch and sat outside on a pleasant day. My three companions all had sandwiches with a side salad. They were OK with filling but in inch thick slices of bread which was badly cut. Non of my party managed to finish it. Far too much for our elderly ladies. Perhaps wholemeal sliced bread would be an alternative option. As for me I had a Pork and Apple pie with undercooked vegetables. When I took the top off the pie after the first bite I found 6 very small pieces of diced Pork in a thick, sweet Apple sauce. Not good enough. It was left. I really do not mind paying for good food and service but that an over £50 experience I will not be repeating.

We went for a lunch, there were fourteen of us nine having a roast The food was very good however the policy of sharing veg in my experience in the hospitality business always leaves someone disappointed! There was one dish of veg at one end of the table for four people and another at other end of the table for four people! So my wife number nine in the middle of the table surrounded by people not having a roast had to put up with a few carrots no body else wanted! My wife is different to me as Farr as she does not like making a fuss! I was very angry when she told me what had happened! If I was supplying a meal I would make sure everyone was provided with a portion of veg and not left to distribute the veg themselves! Please ask your staff to make sure everyone is happy not just ask two people at the end of the table! Just a bit of constructive criticism that I think you should take on board!

Soup was nice but we had tea for two. Was charged for tea for two but we had one pot of tea with one tea bag in it and a pot of hot water !! We visited Bickleigh Mill whilst holidaying in Devon. My initial reaction was that it was smaller than i anticipated but actually once inside, they have made the most of the layout. There are 3 floors of gifts, some unique including a selection of Charlie Bears! Handbags, scarfs, books, jewellery and much more. The third floor is dedicated to childrenswear. My only drawback is that it i didn't see a lift so disabled access to upper floors might be an issue. After scrolling around (and buying) we sat outside in the socially distanced cafe. Deciding to have lunch there, we ordered a selection of baguettes, a salmon and prawn salad and maybe one or two cream teas. The food was served quickly, portions were very generous and tasted fantastic. Definitely recommend the cream teas! Staff were very friendly and polite. As we visited on a Monday in August, we also made use of the 'eat out to help out' scheme which made it even better value. However even without the 'discount I would thoroughly recommend both the Mill shop and the cafe.

Went here yesterday (Sunday) for a carvery with 5 others from different parts of the country as a family meet. We all had carvery, 5 lamb and 1 beef, all I can say really is that the meat was quite nice, but the gravy was over salted and over powered everything else. For 6 people on a carvery, we were given 2 very small plates of veg, nowhere near enough, we asked for some more vegetables, but nothing ever came, no apology was made. The potatoes were huge, I was not sure whether to climb it or eat it??? I decided the latter, should have climbed it instead. We all decided to chance a pudding, out of 6 of us only one thought theirs's was any good, I had the chocolate roulade with chocolate sauce, which came with out any sauces, I eventually managed to catch one of the waitresses attention, and asked for some sauce, she eventually returned with the smallest jug I have ever seen which was less than half full, needn't have bothered really, I left it in the end. Stodgy and dry, not good, most of the other desserts were the same. All in all a very disappointing day, seeing as we had ALL travelled over 100 miles to meet up there. The staff were miserable and all looked like they wanted to be anywhere else but at work. Need to buck up a lot. Would any of us return, NO.

Oh dear, after being assured by the owner that our poor experience previously had been unacceptable and not the usual standard, very disappointed to find that nothing had changed. Had planned to have lunch too, but after seeing how dirty the crockery and teapots and table mats and menus still were, we changed our minds.

After visiting the railway centre next door we were enticed in by the "kids eat free between 4 &5" banner , and So pleased we did, there were a few tables in front of us so we had about 30 minutes wait, but sensing the children were restless he printed off some colouring in sheets in an attempt to keep them occupied! He also kept us updated on the progress of the meals! The boys had big plates of ham, peas and chips all of good quality! The sticky chicken and the duck breast meals were excellent!

Had another lovely meal here, despite the intermittent power cuts. Although there isn't a vast menu, the food is really very good. Service good too.

Stopped for cream tea and sandwiches-Sadly did not live up to expectations as the crockery was stained, dirty and chipped. The menus had food residue and were sticky. Quite off-putting and inexcusable.

A really nice place to stop and grab a quick snack or drink. A beautiful garden facing the stream and some pretty basic snacks to offer.

Stopped here on our way back from Cornwall and enjoyed a coffee and cake. Beautiful place, mill was dry but this is understandable due to the current heatwave. Lovely gift shop - although pricey. Saw a peacock strutting about, thought there would be walks around the mill. Saw details of the walk up to Tiverton - may do that next time we call.

The food here is first class as is the service. There is a great shop to purchase gifts which are a little different and not expensive. Its in a beautiful part of Devon for locals and visitors . Highly recommend it to anyone.

Nice location and sitting outside on a sunny Sunday lunchtime was very nice. I phoned at 10am to book but they do not book outside tables so it was first come first served if you don't want to be inside. The earlier the better so we got there just after 12noon and easily got an outside table with umbrella. Pity cars are allowed to park by reversing into the spaces thereby blowing exhaust fumes all over the people eating right beside them. We spent over £30 on two meals and milk shakes. The food wasn't up to much, not worth the money. Think I'll just go for a light bite next time. There is a 'water mill' but it's bone dry not working. A local told us it happens very frequently and is more often out of order than the advertised picturesque water mill photos would have you believe. We thought there was grounds to walk around but again the local told us it was a 3 1/2 mile path to Tiverton and that it wouldn't be suitable for my partner in shorts and sandals or myself with a walking stick. All rather disappointing. We walked back via the gift shop and left.

My grandad always took me to Bickleigh Mill as a a child and so I thought it was only appropriate to honour an old family tradition as it was fathers day. We arrived at around 1pm and were seated in our favourite spot overlooking the charming garden at the front of the building.

My Partner and our two daughters went to Bickleigh Mill for a Fathers Day lunch. Even though the restaurant was clearly extremely busy the service and food were excellent. I shall certainly be planning a return trip in the near future.

Telephoned to book and said that we may be bringing a dog. We were told that dogs were not allowed in the dining room which was fair enough, however we could eat in the bar. As there were 5 of us we decided not to take the dog and I rang and told them so and asked to book the dining area. When we arrived I went to the dining area to be greeted by a rather large dog, (which turned out to be the owners,) which was slobbering everywhere as it walked around the room. I then found out that we had been put in the bar. We then had to walk through the dining room to where the food was being served and then back into the bar which was becoming busy. We were sat around a table in the middle of the bar with people constantly back and forth. It was a nightmare. Needless to say we won’t be returning

Enjoyed a delicious meal at Penquen Fish Bar! The cod was enormous and perfectly cooked—so fresh and tasty. The chips were equally great, crispy on the outside and soft inside. Overall, a fantastic takeaway experience. Highly recommend this spot for anyone craving quality fish and chips!"
