Restaurant at The Anchor Inn in Mid Devon

Called in for lunch after a walk from Dulverton. The food was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. The fish & chips was very good as was the ham, egg and chips. We'll definitely be back when we're back in the area.

Nice location, food is standard pub grub

We were on holiday and came across The Anchor by chance. All I can say is, I'm so glad we stopped and took a chance. The staff are so welcoming and the food is delicious. We were sat by the lovely wood burner and thoroughly enjoyed our lunch....so much so, we returned a few days later.

A great pub. Spotlessly clean, really well kept beer (according to my hubby, I was driving!) and great food at a very reasonable price. Classic pub menu but done really well with some great twists (a selection of burgers, I had mine with bacon, brie and cranberry). The food came really quickly, was piping hot and tasted delicious. Hubby had a very large piece of cod which he said was beautiful. My burger was great with a real chargrilled flavour. Chips with both were wonderful! The staff were all utterly delightful, friendly and charming. All in all a great lunch and so reasonably priced for the quality of the food.

Wonderful welcome, great beer and amazing food. There is TV in the room, but it's tiny and doesn't have Freeview or any other refinements.

Great place to visit. The place has excellent food with a great choice and a good selection of beers and cider. Located right next to the river Exe which is accessible from their extensive beer garden. Fantastic service.... highly recommend.

Stayed over on May 18th 2024. Service was excellent and attentive. Food was good and a good variety was available. Room was ok. Shower was excellent and bathroom was immaculate. Tea and coffee with decent sized mugs, although filling the kettle was interesting in the small sink🙂. The only small criticisms are that the TV was tiny (12"?) for such a room and there was no bedside table so having a cuppa whilst sat on/in bed was a little awkward (too hot to hold so had to use floor for a while).

A beautiful old pub in a fantastic location on the Exmoor.... Beamed ceilings and full of history... And almost like eating at your nans house.... Great full English breakfast with plenty of tea and toast too....

Having had a meal at the Anchor 8 days ago which was very good we decided to try there Sunday roast and was very disappointed . The meat was very mediocre not much of it the roast potatoes were tough outside. Were only given equivalent of 1 carrot , tiny bit of overcooked brocoli, what we think was leeks in a sauce and the plate was swimming in peas . Unfortunately the Yorkshire pudding was tough. All in all not value for money! No one asked about food allergies of which Unfortunately I do have so some of my food ended up on my husbands plate . Very disappointed no alternatives for dessert.

Wonderful pub, stunning location, fab food! We walked to Exebridge from Bampton so had really worked up an appetite by the time we arrived. As it was May bank holiday it was busy but we still managed to get a table by the river & spotted a kingfisher while we waited for our food. The portions were huge (possibly more than I would like) but the chips were some of the best I’ve had in a long time. My 9 yo son reckoned it was one of the best burgers he’s had too - praise indeed! We’ll definitely be back again.

Lovely place for a drink in the pub or beer garden,amazing setting by the river but the Food was so disappointing, microwaved nachos and microwaved pizza that even my dog wouldn't eat.

Don’t let the Green King sign fool you - it is NOT run by them; GK own the building but a family lease and run the pub. I nearly didn’t get out of the car on seeing the GK sign outside! Lovely clean pub that even on a Thursday lunch was very busy. Food all cooked to order so expect a short wait - it’s worth it! Good old fashioned pub grub (large portions) in a warm, happy atmosphere. Couldn’t eat all the chips but after seeing puddings delivered to a nearby table we had to have a pudding (to share 😉). Will definitely be back in May, booked a table for 13, and fingers crossed the weather will be kind so we can enjoy the garden area too.

Just stopped for an impromptu lunch at the Anchor Inn outside Dolverton. So glad we did. The food was fantastic and the service unbelievable. Especially Sam, it is so nice to see someone so attentive and polite. We will definitely be visiting here again.

This is an awesome pub, the staff are amazing and the food is great, the biggest plate of delicious food ever, iv got a healthy appetite and I could not finish it ,we will definitely be back 😋

We had lunch here yesterday as part of a birthday celebration. We were a group of 9, we all had starters and mains. The food was amazing, really well cooked and plenty of it, the portions we very generous and very well cooked. The staff were lovely. The pub is lovely and in a great location with nice garden right on the river. Will definitely return next time we're in the area.

Stayed here for two nights to visit family. The room we were allotted was freezing cold, quite small and had only tea and coffee for drinks, nothing for anyone who is unable to drink normal tea and coffee, unless you liked bottled water. I asked at the bar and a helpful member of staff did offer peppermint tea or for me to purchase a hot chocolate at the bar, which I had to do. The shower didn't work properly and the toilet seat moved when sat on in the room and the windows could to with a bit of a paint. Complained about the shower and toilet seat and ended up being offered another room for the second night. This room was also small, with no side table to put thing on near the window. The shower worked but the extractor fan didn't. On the sink was a sign that advised not to drink the tap water, which was missing from the first room. I had drunk a lot of the tap water the day before and if the sign had been there I would had not. Over all, I don't think I would ever stop here again, even though the service was fine. I feel a lot of work needs to be done to the rooms very soon.

I visited with a large group paddling down the Barle on Sunday. The interior is bright and modern with lots of fun signs in the bar area. We had a warm reception, and the service was prompt and friendly. There was a choice of two meats (or both) and a vegetarian option. Sunday lunch was served quickly and was extremely plentiful (lots of happy paddlers!). The back of the pub looks out over their pretty gardens. Definitely will visit again!

Great family run pub in an amazing setting by the river. Dog friendly. Great food and huge beer selection. A proper pub run by a fab couple. Hard to beat.

We love this pub. We often go there for food & have never had a bad experience. The setting by the river is hard to beat & the interior & atmosphere is also very pleasant. If you're looking for decent pub grub, reasonable prices & lovely staff & service, the Anchor Inn is the place to go.

Beautiful surroundings, great beer garden, good food and friendly staff. What a shame the hotel rooms don't live up to expectations or their cost. The rooms are very tired, need a good clean and the uneven mattresses need replacing, a real disappointment.

The food is outstanding! The location is beautiful! After lunch we took our drinks by the river in the glorious sunshine!

We attended a wedding here over the weekend and what an amazing place! The gardens are kept absolutely perfect! What better place to have a wedding. The staff here went far and beyond to do what ever they could to make the day extra special. The food here is 5 stars and the accommodation also matches this. Spent the weekend at a The Anchor Inn for my best friends wedding. What a stunning venue! The outside garden area is beautiful and there is no much beautiful artwork to be found inside. The staff are all lovely and and the food was delicious!

We ordered lunch but were then told they weren't serving food to walk-ins. So we left and the manager followed us to our car to swear obscenities as us for not paying for our 2 completely untouched cokes. Nothing like a big, aggressive, red-faced man screaming Fs at a 5 foot brown-skinned woman to remind you of fine British hospitality. Went to Hartnoll Hotel instead which I thoroughly recommend as great food and great service, with warm, friendly, and CLASSY staff

Lovely food, great atmosphere, efficient attentive service.

Stopped for an impromptu Sunday lunch on our way between campsites. We are vegetarian and have been on the receiving end of some dubious nut roasts over time. We needn’t have worried. The food was well cooked, plentiful and very tasty. We ate in the riverside garden which is a lovely flower-filled space with tables and umbrellas or you can sit under the trellis if the sun is shining. Opposite the pub is a large car park which we had no trouble fitting our motorhome in. Would highly recommend and will definitely return whenever we are in the area again.

Booked for a Sunday carvery and it was excellent, great helpings and offering of large and small portions. Wonderful selections of veg. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble, beautiful pub and location. Highly recommend :)

Looks like they updated Google but not their website. Disappointed Sunday: 12pm to 7:30pm

Gorgeous pub, popped in for a drink in the garden after visiting Tarr Steps. An what a garden it is. Right on the river, can sit an enjoy your drink or food, while the kids paddle an play on the pebble beach area. Play area in garden too. Lovely menu an good also. Staff helpful and polite too. Highly recommend a visit.

If you get a chance to come here l can fully recommend it we ate here three time and every time was great the menu is full of pub classics the staff are amazing very friendly one of them Claire is great fun and is very knowledgeable of the local area

The service was excellent but the meal was disappointing.

We stopped in here on the way back from Tarr Steps and so glad we did. Delicious food, good portion sizes and very reasonabley priced. We don't seem to have much luck when we eat out but we both really enjoyed eating here and our son did too. The staff were all friendly. The garden is a really nice size with a lovely play area and access down to the river, and its dog friendly inside and out.

Beautiful pub situated by the river and with very well kept gardens for a relaxing meal out. The food is excellent and consistent, we visited several times whilst staying in the area and each time, whatever we ordered was served quickly and tasted delicious. The staff are all very friendly and our dog Bertie enjoyed his treats. Thoroughly recommend!

Love this pub. It's totally dog friendly, great food, choice of drinks and friendly staff. Best bit for me is that it's on the side of the river so my dog can swim and I can enjoy lunch and a drink. Stayed B&B once too, dog stayed with me in a clean and comfortable room.

Stopped for lunch. Large pub with wonderful garden. We had fisherman's ploughman's and a lasagne and both were very good.

Went for Sunday roast, had a really good plate full and was delicious! All the staff were helpful and happy. Really would recommend!

Amazing location, easily accessible and multi function. Long week end of road tripping Somerset and this was a great spot. Friendly staff, flexible with requests and dog friendly. Popular with the locals and understandably. Nose level not even noticed, good room size simple but pleasent. Food of generous portions and tasty 😋.

Great pub, apparently allowing motorhome stop overs, but please check that is correct before rolling up!! Lovely setting, refreshments & food. Certainly well worth a visit👍😁👍

Really disappointing visit.we went for lunch , waited 1.5 hours for it and when it came it was so disappointing . My fish finger and tartare sauce was awful, really poor quality fish fingers , the other two meals were disappointing too 😔

We had a fantastic family meal tonight. Darren, Steph and the team brilliant. Food outstanding, something for everyone, kids love the park. Surroundings are just lovely.

What a lovely couple running this pub, fitted us in last minute, lovely food and drink. Riverside setting and 15 minutes from Duvale Priory where we were staying.
