Old Well Garden Centre in Mid Devon

Great staff, food and of course plants and sundries. Plenty of parking

There is a choice of a coffee bar or a restaurant; wonderful cakes (great selection) in the restaurant, very friendly staff. An amazingly extensive outdoor plants area, more roses, clematises and pots than I have seen anywhere else. This would be a great place to stop for food when traveling along the M5, being barely 5 minutes from junction 27.

This resturant is amazing it has a lovely atmosphere the staff are pleasant the food v good we have been coming here gor 20 years what a shame l went in today and the experience was less than good service was mixed the young member of staff was less than polite and why does mini pot of jam cost £2. Fortunately there was another member of staff from the resturant area that sorted out the missing scones was extremely polite . Surely standards of service should not defer in a small resturant.

I have been here a couple of times now, the welcome is warm, the staff are very friendly, and efficient. The food I have had has been superb, the chicken tikka masal was definitely home made, and not out of a jar. Food is always served prommptly and piping hot, and very tasty. Great value for money, will definitely be going for a return visit.

We have enjoyed The Old Well for some time now, but have never booked in at the restaurant! It was time to change that, and so we booked for 4 of us to have lunch. On arrival we were swiftly led to our table with such a friendly and lovely welcome, menus were ready and we were left to settle in. The menu is really good, it has something for everyone, with smaller portions offered for some of the meals. You can have a full meal or light lunch, with a specials board offering some extra choice. We had the (frankly spot on!) Orange glazed Ham, Egg and Chips, the Steak Pie from the specials board with veg and chips (allowed us to swap from mash), the Chicken Platter (and what a platter it was!), and a lighter Fish Goujon Sandwich in bloomer bread upgraded with a bowl of chips! The chips! Oh the chips! And not one of us could find anything to pick up on! The food came quickly, yet it was obviously fresh. You could tell it was all homemade. We finished off trying to eat 2 x Apple & blackberry crumble with custard and 2 x Sticky Toffee Puddings! Oh WOW, both great, but the Sticky Toffee was recommended and absolutely sublime! All the staff were friendly, efficient, yet left us to eat and we didn't feel rushed as some restaurants do to you. HUGE mention for the PRICE!!!! Local restaurants are changing far more, are nowhere near as good, and even other Garden Centres are charging more in their cafés!! If you have got this far, you may realise we absolutely LOVED IT and will 100% be going back time and time again! WELL DONE TO THE OLD WELL TEAM you've had a tough time this last couple of months but are still knocking it out the park!!!!

Very good breakfast and friendly staff well done

Stopped by today and had an Old Well Big Breakfast. BANGING! Local sourced thick cut Bacon, Local Sausage’s and Local free range eggs, chose poached eggs and lovely bright orange yolks. Friendly staff, dog friendly area indoors, lovely fresh Latte and quick service. I will definitely be stopping again and well worth the short detour from the motorway. Would never stop at a services again for breakfast now I have found this little gem of a place. Lunch menu also looks good and may be something I have to check out in the future!

A great find! A really great selection of top quality, reasonably-priced plants, well displayed & cared for by people who obviously know their stuff. Add in a cup of good coffee and a warm welcome, & this is my idea of a place worth returning to.

Visited the old well this morning we both had two poached egg on toast absolutely delicious and the waitress super friendly and excellent service as always and 5star poached eggs cooked to perfection thank you very much .

My friend and I had a wonderful lunch here last Thursday. Food was brilliant and the staff were very efficient and so nice and friendly. A great day out.

We stopped on a whim at 11:30 yesterday morning for a coffee as it’s very handy for J27 of the M5. What a pleasure it was, too! We were greeted by an extremely friendly lady who showed us to a table and then, predictably, decided on a snack. The cheese scones had been made on site that morning and were delicious. Every member of staff was super helpful and friendly and we couldn’t have been happier with our visit. Thank you Old Well cafe.

The food was great, good value for money. They accommodated 8 of us and the staff were warm, welcoming and efficient. Altogether an excellent experience. We will return.

Such a lovely garden centre. Plenty of parking and just 5 minutes from the M5, junction 27. The restaurant is a must. Breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea with lot's of variety. Annie and her staff are so helpful, friendly and efficient. Thank you.

What a lovely little gem! Arrived early midday and the eatery was already busy. We were greeted by a lovely lady who managed to find us a table for two! The food was so delicious. I had a small cottage pie with fresh veg -a real home made scummy meal, certainly big enough for me! My old man enjoyed a small ham egg and cheese which he really enjoyed. Will certainly travel from Paignton to eat there again!

The Old Well is such a wonderful garden centre and restaurant. We go often as a family on a Saturday for lunch, and a lovely lady called Annie always greets us with a friendly smile and finds us the perfect table. The food is cooked to order and absolutely delicious!

Had a delicious lunch time meal last

Went here today for lunch and was very pleased, polite staff very helpful. The only reason I gave a 4star, thought the dessert although very nice, is a bit dear for the size, left me looking for some more. Top tip leave the motorway at Tiverton /Barnstaple exit don't go to tacky services and enjoy a break here, even a good garden center to look around. Thank you

Met our son and family for lunch. We hadn't booked but Annie fitted us in. She was so welcoming, as were the rest of the staff. The food was excellent. The gift shop is well stocked as is the garden center. We will be visiting again.

Visited both the coffee shop and restaurant today. Excellent fish and chips served by attentive and friendly staff. Amazing how everyone is so positive after such devastation just a few weeks ago.

Visited the Old Well after the fire and they have done an amazing job at keeping the place running. The staff are doing a fantastic job and staying cheerful. The cafes are all open, so a good coffee and bun went down well on a wet day. Welldone and thank you everyone.

Been many time to the old well and as always staff always fab, we sat an had lunch and again the staff super friendly especially as I have a food allergy they where more than happy answering my question and made me feel at ease which is great.

I am a regular visitor to The Old Well with my friends, we have a girls day out on a Tuesday & one of our favourite places is The Old Well we spend the day there & have coffee, lunch & tea. The staff are so friendly and always make us feel welcome they are a special crew. Thank you for always taking the trouble to make us feel special. Looking forward to our next visit xxx

Never disappoints, a lovely garden centre with a family feel.

A couple of friends and I had lunch at the Old Well Garden Centre Tiverton yesterday and loved it. There was a great choice of dishes, at economic prices, and the staff were very welcoming. All in all a very enjoyable experience.

Considering the fire they recently experienced, the team there have really pulled everything together, providing and excellent friendly service on the tills, cafe and other staff. They are a brave bunch of people who need every bit of support we can all give. After all, it's still one of the best family run garden centres out there and meets just about every gardeners needs. Oh, and the cakes are delicious!

We came here today to look at the Christmas items, there were a lot available and it was all displayed nicely. We purchased some pretty tree decorations. Staff were happy and helpful.

We came to support this amazing hidden gem in the wake of their recent fire. We’re new to the area and were planning to come before tragedy struck. Don’t be put off, folks. The staff are welcoming and friendly, and the café serves the best cooked breakfast I’ve had in ages. The gift shop and Christmas shop are rammed to the rafters with amazing products and the artwork is both reasonably priced and breathtaking. You NEED to visit this place, show your support and bag yourself a bargain (and a hearty meal!) We’ll be back again and again. The staff and owners need our support now more than ever. And they’ve earned it.

Great garden centre, but suffered a major fire in the new building recently. The owners, managers and staff have all pulled together to get the centre open again. The cafe, restaurant, gift shop and plant areas have been cleaned and reopened, A Sterling job. We have already been spending there to give support, We were given a warm welcome by the staff who are extremely happy to be back at work despite the fire. Well done all of you.

Beautiful garden centre local to us . We just love to pop in for great coffee, cakes etc and to pick up plants and garden supplies. Staff are so lovely and helpful. Go see for yourself, can’t recommend enough.

This is more than just a garden centre, it’s my go to place for birthday presents, cards and gifts, and a trip to the cafe always leaves me feeling very satisfied, especially sitting on the terrace in the sunshine! All the staff go above and beyond to give you a warm welcome and are all so knowledgeable and patient with people who want to have a lovely garden but aren’t quite sure how!! All my family and friends appreciate the Old Well as much as I do.

Absolutely love this place. Always a great experience visiting The Old Well. Staff are warm and helpful, always so many lovely things to see and their plants survive even my novice gardening skills! Some garden centres can be intimidating if you don’t have a lot of knowledge but here advice is at hand and you don’t feel afraid to ask. The restaurant is super friendly, food is excellent and this review would not be complete without a shout out for the cheese scones! Best ever! My day is always brighter and better for an hour or two here!

This garden centre is an absolute gem. The choice of plants is absolutely huge and all of excellent quality. The staff put displays together beautifully so a wander around is always worthwhile for ideas and inspiration. Huge choice of pots too. Thoroughly recommend visit for every type of gardener

Our favourite local garden centre, to which we always enjoy a visit. Prices are always very reasonable and a great selection of plants, gifts, cards, outdoor furniture etc. Nearly always something new to see too. Choice of a restaurant or a coffee bar on site, both with lovely, friendly staff. Great drinks and well-cooked homely food. Ample parking, easy to get to, couldn't really ask for anything more!

I took my elderly father here for a birthday breakfast. Food was good and there was not a long wait. The lady that served us was so nice

Been going to this garden centre for many years and have always found it a sanctuary to walk around. Bought many seeds and plants and find the staff and owners to be absolutely lovely. A few years ago, my car broke down in the middle of the road, outside of the Old Well. Rob immediately came out and tried to help me push my car out of danger. Thank you Rob, I will never forget that.

I’m a regular customer, visiting a couple of times a month . Where do I start, perhaps with the staff, always friendly and helpful especially the two chaps who lift heavy items into my car . The plants are good quality and I buy everything for my vegetable garden as plugs at reasonable prices . There is a vast choice of seeds and garden furniture and I’ve purchased everything from grape vines to annuals the choices are many . My favourite purchases though have been my huge planters, regularly reduced to half price. I ask my adult children for garden vouchers for Christmas and they are patient when I take ages to decide . I believe this centre has the biggest number of pots in Devon, you are spoiled for choice! The cafe and restaurant both serve excellent food and have gluten free options something important if you are coeliac, and even a sandwich is attractively presented . I’ll finish by saying they are literally a minute from Junction 27 M5, so very simple to find .

Such a wonderful place to browse, I am not a keen gardener but the choice and display of plants & flowers always captivates my interest and help & guidance is always to hand, I love browsing the gifts especially the seasonal delights, Christmas isn't complete without a trip here for last minute gifts for all the family... The cafe is just everything you want it to be offering delicious homemade cakes & soups by their welcoming staff, just LOVE The Old Well! Xxx

Our local garden centre that we love visiting, not only for it's quality plants, cards and gifts, but the restaurant too! My parents visit several times a week to eat, and know all the staff. It's more like visiting family than a shop!

We love the Old Well - it's got everything! The restaurant and cafés are brilliant; lovely food and reasonably priced. The gift section is perfect for finding something for anyone (of any age) and we love the wide selection of cards. The garden centre is of course full of every plant and accessory you can imagine, and most importantly of all, every single member of staff we've ever encountered has been absolutely lovely. We're so lucky to have such a brilliant place on our doorstep, but if we lived further away we'd definitely still be regular visitors!

Best cheese scones in Devon! The staff are so warm and friendly, and the cafe always clean and cosy. Lots of colouring avaliable to entertain the kids (who give a big thumbs up for their babycinos!). Love this garden centre! Such a great range of plants and everything else needed. Much more reasonable prices than many garden centres and I can't fault the cafe. It's not our closest centre but it's worth the extra drive in our opinion!

This is my favourite garden centre in Devon and I am a regular customer. A huge selection of plants, bulbs, pots, tools and all other gardening requisites. Pay for gravel or compost at the till snd then drive round to have bags of your purchases to be placed in your car. There is a restaurant and two cafes, one of which is dog-friendly. Lots of gifts and cards. Last week I bought bulbs and dog treats after visiting the outdoor cafe. My beagle enjoyed her free treat and saying hello to the friendly staff. Sad to learn of the devastating fire not long after my last visit. I plan to return once it reopens.

Since moving to the area 2 years ago, the old well has definitely become our favourite garden centre. They have such a large quantity of quality plants, as well as pots, garden furniture and a cafe/restaurant. The staff have always been friendly and helpful and we hope to be back in browsing again soon!

I visited with my family for my nans birthday in September and had a lovely time. The food and the service in the restaurant was excellent. The garden centre itself has everything you could think of buying and more. All of the staff are lovely. Looking forward to a return visit.

We brought my Mother here for Lunch on her 97th Birthday as we all love a good Garden Centre & Restaurant . I only booked the table this morning on the day of our visit and the lady that answered the phone was very happy / positive and joyous. We had a Lovely lunch , the food was Superb , fresh with plenty of it . All the staff were very polite efficient and really nice. The Birthday Cup Cake was an added bonus that my Mother really appreciated ! To add to our visit my Mother loves to give an Amaryllis to all her family for Christmas and the Old Well has a fantastic selection , we bought quite a few along with some small colourful Pumpkins for her granddaughter . May we simply say a Big Thank You for today , it was really nice . Paul T & Family.

This is an amazing garden centre to visit - I would say something there that would interest everyone from a cup of coffee, plants, garden forks, spades, trowels, sheats, seasonal gifts, toys and all manner of homeware, cards, soaps etc etc. But, apart from that, the restaurant serves fabulous food although booking would be recommended. But, most of all, each time I have been, the staff in all departments have been the nicest, friendliest and most helpful I have ever come across anywhere at all.

Great Christmas gift section, lovely cafe

We took the family to the restaurant and bakery at the garden centre. The service was excellent and our waitress very friendly and helpful. We had hot drinks and cake. A large range of delicious looking cake to choose from which were all very good. I can recommend the scones which were so light and melt in the mouth, together with a very decent cup of coffee. Will definitely go back!!

I took my family here for lunch and it was brilliant, a nice garden centre with wonderful staff. The food was incredible, cottage pie I can highly recommend. The staff all around the garden centre made my little boy (1 year old) very happy, playing with him, giving him some toys during lunch etc. Would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Went here with my daughter for a birthday lunch. The food was amazing with generous size portions at a reasonable price. Definitely worth a visit.

I really can't stand being funneled like I'm a sheep. This place is hideous for that - don't go in this door, go in that door, don't walk this way, take the other route...grrrrrr... it's a garden centre for goodness sake, not a route over the Pyrenees!! The cafe staff are nice but the food and coffee is really meh. Honestly, don't bother. There are much nicer garden centres.

Nice independent garden centre with an extensive range of plants and sundries all reasonably priced. The 2 cafes were both busy containing happy smiling customers. The main cafe was full so we decided to have a drink only. Advisable to phone and book if intending to eat there.

Fantastic little stop on the way down to Devon if you're on the A roads. Lovely cafe with really friendly staff. Haven't tried the restaurant yet, but will next time we pass. Managed to get a nice gift for our hosts while we were there too. Everything was really clean and tidy, happy atmosphere.

It is a great Cafe and food options are good there. You can buy some plants on your way in or out. Decent place overall

Terrible customer service in the cafe. We walked through an unmarked door to be told "That's disabled access only, I don't know how you got though but please use the correct door." Turned round and left the venue. Avoid at all costs.

Passed by here many times and last weekend on our way to Ikea in Exeter, we decided to stop and eat here first, and I'm so glad we did! I had the chicken and ham platter, which was delicious! Really generous portion (I had already eaten some before I remembered to take a picture). The ham was thick and tasty, and the chicken melted in your mouth. The chutney was sweet and fruity, and the salad was tasty, too. I would definitely recommend eating here for reasonably priced, delicious food! The place is clean and has a great atmosphere. The staff were very sociable and friendly. Well worth a visit as you can buy fantastic butterfly cakes to take home as well as lots of other cakes and biscuits in the shop.

Well kept garden centre and the restaurant didn’t disappoint, been twice , meals are served very quickly for a busy place, and special mention for the Manageress for her friendly banter, we will be back!
