LOVED IT! First time here since I was a child, great atmosphere, lovely style, fixtures and fittings and also great layout which I think is really important. You can eat in dining area at back or in main bar and not feel cut off either way. Food on bar menu was absolutely stunning! Shared the Crevettes which was a special and should be added to main menu as delicious! Special Chicken burger for main with truffle chips which again was fab! Will definitely be back, excited to have such another great pub on our doorstep

Beautifully refurbed pub, that I have been visiting since I was a teen, 40 years ago!! Friendly people. This is the the third lunch we have had under the new management and we really want to see this place flourish, for the sake of the village. Our first visit was fine; the second time we booked for 5 people at 12.30 and received our food at 2, partially burned. The waiter offered to have it replaced but we were faint with hunger by this time. We were still charged full price. Also, we were initially shown the restaurant menu rather than the bar menu, but as we had booked for the bar area were told we couldn't have restaurant food unless we were sitting somewhere else. Really?! Surely not. So, to this third visit... We were told the only unavailable item on the menu was the Scotch egg. We placed our order, chosen from the small selection of non-meat options. Five minutes later we were told that 2 of the 4 items we had selected were unavailable. Not good. We adjusted our choice and when it arrived it was enjoyable. But when we went to pay we found that we were still being charged for the unavailable items in addition to what we had actually received. We were the only people in the pub, so this error wasn't caused by a surfeit of busyness! It's a pity that there is little on offer that constitutes a quick pub lunch, and too much of what's on offer isn't available. Also, very limited soft drink choice, which is a pity for lunch times. Come on, Butterleigh Inn, we need you to get it right. Sorry to say all this, but you did give us a card with the inaccurate bill asking for a review!

The recently completed structural changes to the Butterleigh Inn have successfully retained the character of this lovely country pub. However, changes to the menu have been less successful in our view. We didn’t eat in the restaurant (prices are now too high for casual dining), so cannot comment on that menu. We chose to dine from the new bar menu, which is quite odd in its structure. There are no ‘starters’ listed, only ‘light bites’ which are really only ‘nibbles’ to accompany drinks. There is a ‘meals’ category which lists a variety of dishes, some of which are adequate in size, others which are only ‘starter’ sized. Whilst there was nothing wrong with the food we ordered, my companion’s (a slice of frittata with salad leaves - £12). could no way be considered a ‘meal’. Sadly,, there are no ‘sides’ on the menu, e.g. fries, bread, or other veg, which could mitigate the small portion size. The new bar menu doesn’t seem to know whether it is ‘tapas’ or ‘street food’ in theme. Deserts were fine, if expensive (8.50). Nothing wrong with the service which was friendly and attentive. Just a shame that the baby (traditional pub grub) seems to have been thrown out with the bath water.

I wish I could give less. Food took ages. Yes, it was nice but not worth the length of time it took. Service staff were getting shouted at by the chef. Appalled at the way in which they were treating their staff. I'd recommend going somewhere they treat their staff with respect.

We have just returned home from staying at the Butterleigh Inn as visiting family in Tiverton. A beautiful B&B. The rooms have been tastefully decorated. Very comfortable. Dogs allowed which is amazing. The staff are so friendly and helpful especially the Cook/GM. The pub is really friendly. Gardens very pretty We only had our breakfast there but it was lovely. All fresh produce. The only thing was if you stay a Sunday night your not offered a cooked breakfast on Monday as the pub is closed. But your still charged the same. This is our new place to stay when we visit again. Thank you

Quite probably the best Sunday roast I have had in a pub, or in fact anywhere else, particularly for the price for certainly as long as I can remember anyway. Considering we were the last service late on Sunday, the beef was superb, tasty melt in the mouth and beautiful, unlike so many other Pub Sunday Roasts where steak knives are a necessity and serious chewing required this was a revelation. The roast potatoes, light on the inside and the perfect crunch on the outside. The vegetables were, what vegetables should be, not supporting cast, with proper cauliflower cheese. Lastly the gravy! Ah the gravy. Honestly, it was an absolute pleasure and couldn’t recommend it more. Book now before word gets out.

Family of 4 made the visits aged between 57 to 75 years old plus mollie the dog who was always welcome with each visit. Visited this lovely pub about 4 times during our weeks holiday which was between 3rd to 10th May 24, which now under new owners. During our visits we had booked Sunday roast dinner, had a evening meal and 2 times just popped in for a drink. Sunday roast was excellent. We all had a different meat which was, Chicken, Beef, Lamp and Pork. This came with Yorkshire pudding roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables. Every plate was cleared which shows the quality of the food. 3 of us had afters which was a selection of pudding and creams, again we could not fault it. Tip: We booked our table in advance and I am glad we did because it was busy with a great country atmosphere. Evening meal had a good selection and was cooked perfectly. Like the roast we could not fault it. We had 4 main meals and 3 afters. A cocktail, 2 round of drinks which came to about £100 which was excellent value for 4. The 2 times we popped in during the day we got our drinks and sat outside on the benches in the grass area. This area is quiet and being extended while we was there. The bar got a good selection of beers and ciders and spirits with cocktails of the day. We found the main staff young who were cheerful, chatty and helpful. On all our orders we made their was not one mistake and was served to us in a professional manner. We visited this pub in September 2023 which was good but with the improvements that have, and are being made with the new owners this place is only going to get better.:) Their is a big car park connected to the pub but also a car park opposite which is the village hall car park. Both of theses you do not pay for. Dogs are welcome but not in the restaurant. But the same food and service can be ordered and consumed in the bar area. We will revisit next holiday in the area.

Had a couple of issues with the food. I told the waiter who didn’t come across as particularly interested. I got the feeling he was scared to tell the chef. I mentioned to food issue to another member of staff who seemed even less interested. We were presented with the bill and card machine, we didn’t ask for the it, while still drinking which made us feel that we were being kicked out. I know it’s under new management and there will be teething problems, but when there’s a problem with the food I’m paying for, I’d expect some acknowledgement.

This was my first visit since the Butterleigh inn had new owners. The improvements made were all positive without spoiling the loved character of the pub. We had a delicious meal and the staff were all lovely considering the very busy night. Congratulations and good luck to the new owners David and Suzanne have made a great start and it’s lovely to have this pub as my local.

A great place where the pub is the heart of the community. Loads of character to the pub and the landlady, with great selection of beer and food that is simple but cooked fantastically. The rooms are very comfortable and with plenty of space. Again nice and simple but completely functional. Only a few miles from Cullompton where you can get all the amenities you expect from a small town this is just far enough away from the rat race to be able to unwind but get back to reality if needed! We needed somewhere that was dog friendly to stay whilst coming to visit family in Devon. We chose here as somewhere that broke up the journey but also gave us options to travel from in order to explore somewhere new and take the dog walking. A great community atmosphere and so long as you don’t want exquisite then this is a must for you to consider staying at. You will be warmly welcomed, fed well and really made to feel at home.

The dessert menu was just as delicious, we even had a second helping of the apple and blackberry crumble with custard to takeaway!! All the staff were extremely friendly Jo and Matt made us feel very welcome as did all the locals that are lucky to have The Butterleigh Inn on their doorstep. Well worth taking the drive off the beaten track for this little gem of a place. We will definitely be making another visit again soon. Butterleigh is a small village a few miles from Tiverton, accessed via narrow country lanes, and this is the village pub. Arriving here on a sunny autumn day, there was a warm welcome and a genuine rustic feel, especially in the main bar, where locals stand around chatting and drinking and friendly dogs come to greet you. The back room is set out more for dining. There are four handpumps offering a range of ales mainly from the West Country. The main menu is a fairly straightforward affair but they also have a good range of blackboard specials which offer some more interesting choices, which include some local options and some international dishes (there is always a curry), and prices are very reasonable with main dishes mostly around £10. I decided to go local and chose the Roast Partridge (£12) which took a while to arrive but was well worth the wait as it was perfectly cooked with a delicious sauce and accompanied by new potatoes and a nice medley of fresh vegetables. Devon hospitality at its best.

A wonderful proper pub with home cooked food, lovely service and a friendly atmosphere. Worth a visit for the real ale alone, but treat yourself to a meal whilst your there.

We visit the Butterleigh at least once a month and are always delighted with the food and the service. The Sunday lunch is great food and really good value and evening meals are just as good. Service is at a leisurely pace which is about not having to turn tables over three times in a night and the food is cooked to order so always piping hot and delicious. The beer is good to though I'm usually the driver.

We visited one evening just for a couple of drinks, we are both big fans of true country pubs and The Butterleigh Inn certainly did not disappoint. The atmosphere is great and feels very homely, there is an open fire! Which is a HUGE plus, the pub is dog friendly which is very important to us.The staff are very friendly and welcoming! Will be visiting again very soon to try some of your gorgeous looking food!!
