Blue Velvet Bistro in Mid Devon

My girlfriend and I went to eat here after finishing a day in plymouth while on holiday in Devon and we picked this resturaunt purely because we wanted steak but we were absolutely amazed with the experience in the Tiverton steakhouse. It's a small resturaunt with a lovely style perfect for a date night like ours. We ordered our food (a 10oz fillet steak for my girlfriend and a 20oz tomahawk steak for myself with satueed potatoes and assordted veg for both) and after holding on to our menus for dessert thinking, we were a little confused why the server didn't ask for our steak preferences until we double checked the menu and saw the resturaunts amazing idea. The steak is brought to you on some black hotplate thingies as seen in my picture with the entire idea being that you can cook each bit of meat that you cut to your preferences by simply holding the cut to the plate so it cooks to your preference allowing you to change how you want your steak mid meal. This may be a normal idea for people who do more resturaunt dining but for us this was a game changer. Being able to place my meat on the empty plate provided to dip the potatoes in the juices and then cook it some more after I was satisfied was fantastic. The meat was exquisite and tasted beautiful no matter the cook level with my girlfriend excitedly saying it was so soft and tender she could probably cut her steak with a spoon. To finish my girlfriend had some homemade apple pie and I had a dessert of chocolate mousse with a citrus filling topped with (I think) milk chocolate and then 2 dark chocolate wafers stuck into the top which we both agreed were lovely. Overall this was an amazing dining experience and we genuinely wish we had a place similar to this closer to home but for now we'll just need to find more excuses to go down to Devon. Novel idea using hot stone (very hot) to cook steak to your liking. Sirloin steak was of exceptional quality, salad and chips a little under whelming. If I'm ever back in Tiverton, I'll certainly retufn

Absolutely love this place. Lovely environment and very welcoming/polite staff. Varied assortment of drinks and lagers on draught (San Miguel, Birra Poretti and Blooklyn lager). Prices are very reasonable. Toilets very clean. Hot plate was great _ - I like my steak very rare, so the side plates were very helpful. Cocktails lovely and very reasonably priced! Can't recommend this place enough!!

Such an undiscovered 5 star stake experience at a budget price. Being a steak lover I like to try different grill houses and this is by far the best out there. Cooking yourself on a hot stone to your liking at your table is an exclusive experience that is hard to find in the UK with locally sourced beef. Not only the impeccable food but the staff there are on par, Tanya the server was a delight to have as the front of house and the chef (husband) joined us after service for a social before departure. What a fantastic experience! And what a great undiscovered family run business. By far the best in the south west 5*

My Wife and I went to The Tiverton Steak House last night (Tuesday 20th August). Tiverton is not blessed with lots of evening eateries but this one is a winner. We were staying in The Premier Inn but skipped their good value offering to come here. The steaks were amazing, the wine excellent and both very reasonably priced. We got chatting to the lovely lady owner and wish her and her resteraunt all the best.

Lovely meal, excellent service, a lovely evening

The Steakhouse catered for eleven of us at the drop of a hat on a Friday night. Everyone in the party were really impressed with our meal. We had such a great time we were there for nearly four hours enjoying the food, atmosphere and of course each others company.

Always a treat, going again this weekend and cannot wait 😁.

The meat (steak and ribs) was good but the chips and sautéed potatoes were not fresh And came from frozen and they tasted very cheap. The restaurant looked a bit dated with fake flowers and plastic table cloth.

Incredible place for steak. My first time ribeye on hot stone. Dubious at first as I like ribeye medium well done. The stone did its job and I was very impressed. 5* thank you!

Good service and food but if you like your steak well done there is an issue. Steaks are served rare on a hot block and you can then cook then as required. The problem was that by the time my wife had cut here steak into strips (to speed up the cooking) and got it to how she liked it, here chips were rather cool and the sauce had a nice skin on it. Now I had the ribs which were very nice and if I had the steak Iwould have been ok as I like mine medium rare. Should also mention that the chips were not all that, more like oven chips.

We had my husband's 60th there on Saturday and there were 16 of us. The food came out quickly and hot.Great tasting steak good service and there was an amazing atmosphere. Throughly recommend

Superlative ample sized steaks to your choice, presented on a sizzling hot stone so you can cut each bite to finish the cooking to your precise taste. Thoroughly enjoyable way to have sumptuous food in a warm, friendly, welcoming family run restaurant. I had a ribete on my first visit and couldn't wait to come back. This time a huge sirloin, fit for a king. Never fail to satisfy, and they fill your tummy up here and look after you! There is every good reason why these folks are busy.

Excellent and friendly service. The lady serving us made a real fuss of our young daughter. Steak was served on a hot griddle which I’ve never seen before and was a fantastic idea. Very delicious, will definitely be returning.

some of the best steak ive ever had.....went there for dinner....the steak, we had fillets, is cooked on a hotplate at the table....great meat, chips, salads and the deserts are really good too.....not very expensive but a wonderful meal.......go there......

Just had dinner here with my wife & cannot stress enough how warm our welcome was from the lovely lady who served us & how high the standard of food that we received. I had the best fillet of steak I have ever eaten and it was round & very big served on a hot stone so it could be cooked exactly to the diners preference. My wife had superb fishcakes & all the sides, starters & desserts were of a similar very high standard. The ambience for quite a small place was lovely with tasteful décor & exceptional levels of cleanliness. I intend to highly recommend this venue to our neighbours & friends and once again I stress the warm welcome we received from the lovely lady who served us.

Steaks were delicious and all was well presented. Great cosy atmosphere with staff not too busy to help. Looking forward to going back.

We were visiting Tiverton in the evening to see a band and decided to go for dinner first. Not knowing the area, we had a look at what was available and since we live a good steak..this looked ideal. Easy to book by phone. The very friendly hostess, Tanya welcomed us immediately and we were seated straight away. Our meal was absolutely wonderful. We went straight for a main and chose the ribeye steaks. Served on a hot stone, to be cooked at your table as you wish. Perfection all round. Well seasoned, fresh and tasty. The accompanying extras were hot & tasty (mushroom, tomato and onion rings) I had the sauteed potatoes and hubby had chips. Great portions too. Our evening felt very relaxed and unhurried. We were offered the dessert menu and picked the Manhattan stack. I'm so glad we did. Oh my goodness. It was incredible. What was not to love?! Chocolate Mousse with a caramel truffle centre, topped with a creamy profiterole and dark chocolate. Wow! Despite not living locally, we would definitely go out of our way to visit again and I have already told our friends how great it is.

Looking for somewhere to eat early evening, we stumbled upon this quiet, steak house by chance. Run by a married couple, welcome was friendly, service prompt and food was superb. Complemented by a good selection of drinks and attention to cleanliness. Will definitely go back if in the area again. Thoroughly recommend!

We are not local to the area and found this restaurant by chance. We were delighted we did. Not something I had come across before but our steaks arrived nearly blue on a hot stone platter. It transpires you then cut the steak and use the stone to cook it further to whatever degree you like. It was superb! The meat was tender and tasty with the sides also well prepared and presented. The starter was also very good. An excellent meal. The restaurant itself is quite unassuming but definitely one worth visiting!

This restaurant doesn’t disappoint. Our second visit here and the food, service etc is as good as our previous visit. The restaurant is small but very cosy, it did get a little warm with the hot stone you cook your steak on, but oh so worth it to have a unique and fabulously cooked piece of meat….so worth a visit.

Nine of us met for an evening meal and we all had a fantastic time. The restaurant itself is not large, therefore has a nice cosy atmosphere, very relaxing for an evening meal. The food was excellent, starters, main and dessert. Most of us had the steaks which were of a very high quality. Others had chicken (classic and piri piri) also great quality, which they all thoroughly enjoyed. The service and attention to detail was exemplary. All of us agreed it would be difficult to find a better steak house/restaurant with such quality. Thank you for making our evening so good.

Went to dinner last night with my family, and I am beyond impressed with the service provided. Tanya, one of the owners, was there to make sure our every need was met. She was very friendly and kind, which made the night that much more enjoyable. The food and drinks themselves were fantastic, and we cannot fault the experience as a whole. We had a very good time and would love to go again.

This steak restaurant is a little gem. The service and food is simply amazing. It’s taken us 2 years + to discover it, but it will now be our go to place whenever we want a good quality steak.

Just amazing steak!! We never eat steak at home so this was a real treat - went for the fillet steak and it didn’t disappoint. So reasonably priced as well. Family run, such friendly service. Very grateful to our friend for finding this place and very grateful to the owners to making unforgettable food, which will play a big part in our memories of our trip away to Devon!

We came with friends from out of town, and they like their steaks. They were very impressed and so were we! We've been before but each time it gets better. Not just the steaks but the sauteed potatoes were fantastic. Topped off with excellent service and very reasonable prices. Highly recommended you won't regret it!

The steak was very good, but the rest of the food average, and pay extra for chips or sauté potatoes. 5 of us put on a long table for 10, later 2 strangers were added at the end, wWaitress started collecting plates before we had finished for both main course and desserts. Front door had to be opened on a chilly evening as so much smoke from steaks cooking on stones. They pride themselves on food being local produce but need to up there game in other areas, 2 of our group had gin and tonics and both thought they tasted a bit strange

Weve eaten here a few times, but haven't got round to writing a review. Lovely place, owned by a hard working couple. Prices are reasonable same as anywhere if eating out. We always order the fillet steak, because its so nice but must try others. Our daughter ate the salmon and loved it. Booked through Facebook without any trouble ,ook forward to coming again. We keep meaning to bring the in laws to come and taste the steak.

Wow Wow Wow, this is the best kept secret in Devon. We ordered 10 oz sirloin steaks which came beautifully presented on a hot lava rock so you could cook it to your own preference. It came with 3 dipping sauces and a generous helping...

Excellent menu, generous with the portions, the made to order burgers are delicious as is the rest of the substantial menu, friendly owner always chatty and on quieter occasions has even put in Peppa pig for our 5year old daughter 🙂

AWFUL . Badly Managed by arrogant lady. Complained how Clostraphobic the front outside area was and how the cake ordered was hard and tasteless She didn't want to know about customer feedback and told me the cake was made that morning. And then told me as a customer that if I didn't like the place I should go somewhere else Sadly I know this is no way to run a business , especially in a dying town . It was obvious she believed her opinion was more valid than mine I won't be returning there again. PM

I occasionally work in mid Devon and just happened to spot this place. The staff were very attentive and quite charming without bearing overbearing. Good food, beer and all finished with apple crumble and custard!

Having lived and worked in Tiverton well over 10 years never knew this place existed let alone did such amazing food. Popped in while in town before a visit to barbers. Looks tiny from outside but the reasonable size inside and and even bigger welcome from the lovely staff. The menu had lots of variation I decided to go for a Devon burger the other half decided on chicken dish and my 18 month old son went for kids sausage and chips. On arrival the kids sausage and chips was the same size as many place serve a full adult meal but luckily he has his a father's appetite Nd demolished most of it mine and the wife's meals were massive all cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. The staff even put peppa pig on the TV for our son to watch. Amazing service all for a reasonable price too. We will be back again and again and again.
