The Golden Panda in Mid Devon

I've had several takeaways from here now & it's by far the best Chinese takeaway that I've had in years.

Golden panda is the best. Fantastic food. I would recommend anyone to go there.

Food was ok but lacked flavour and was soaked in liquid. We asked for vegetarian duck which they confirmed on the order. When it arrived it turned out to be meat which fortunately we figured out. Wouldn't go back.

Disappointed, Tried this place for a takeaway as our normal one is temporarily closed. The menu is of a good selection, however, the pricing is quite expensive. At time of writing most main meals are £11 rising to £14 and fried rice is £4.50 but offer a 10% reduction for collection. We ordered 4 main meals and two fried rice totalling £47.70 which again is higher than we would normally pay. Although the flavour was fairly good, the main dishes had a coating of sauce but no sauce residue in the container so were quite dry. The crispy beef was really thin short strips so no beef flavour, and the chow mein was thin noodles again. The biggest disappointment was the fried rice. This was not fried and was mushy, so overcooked in my opinion. Won’t return or recommend, sorry

Enjoyed the banquet meal with twenty or so members of my bowling club. Food was plentiful, hot and tasty. Very enjoyable evening.

Ordered this evening , order salt and pepper chips and chicken , chicken fried rice and a portion of chicken balls , chicken balls was smaller than McDonald’s chicken nuggets salt pepper chicken was just batter and veg and rice was very dry would not recommend

I ordered chilli shredded beef, received no chilli and no beef just loads of batter. Will not go there again, will go to China China

Service was quick? Food portions and food quality were good. Very tasty. Slightly noisy group on one of the table's. Other than that, great.

Favourite Chinese restaurant in the area and the only one with a sit in restaurant ! Never had a takeaway as we like to sit in whenever we book the owner is quick and efficent on the phone when we book our table which i like, seated promptly and given time to browse the menu, always go for salt & pepper chicken 2 portions as we really like it the meat spring rolls are very good, chicken satay is also very good not too peanutty which i like, always try to choose a different main but never had a main i didnt like 😂, usually atleast one of us will get a sizzling dish which causes everyone to turn round to see what we have, drink selection is good. While decor is a little simple its clean and feels airy in the restaurant, usually the owner will be there at front of house but sometimes it will be an older lady who is just as nice and efficent when settling the bill.

Had evening meal with 3 other friends.Havn't eaten here for several years but service and welcome were excellent. We had a variety of dishes and the food was fantastic and cooked to perfection.

We were visiting a very good friend in black dog, and had gone to visit the horse drawn barge and decided let's go have a Chinese meal not knowing the town looked on Google and found the panda , when we arrived we didn't know what to expect we eat out a lot and being a smaller place than London and Southampton where we live know went in and had a nice welcome and we where very impressed with the food and size of the dishes we could not fault anything was so happy, I recommend any in the area to visit well worth it,

We have been several times now and could not believe the hidden gem that lies within Tiverton the staff are very helpful, happy and smiling the food was first class any questions we had were answered there and then with no pree thought we shall keep coming back it's deffinatly worth the visit wheelchairs can't make it up to the top seating area but there are lower tables where we tend to go and that means we are within ear shot of the lovely water feature ..... perfect :) :)

Ordered for the first time tonight and to be honest i was not happy with it wish i never wasted my money... The bbq sauce tasted like viniger may aswell had viniger sauce dint even smell like bbq sauce... For the price of the chicken balls they are really small they are like chicken nuggets... Not what i was expecting... The Special fried rice was really dry and could have had more flavour to it... Most of the food i brought tonight got put in the bin because it was not nice at all...

Food took ages to come out. Wanted more food, they started cleaning the table when I said we wanted more, had to ask 3 times for more food and they came out with dessert. In total we were at the restaurant for nearly 3 hours. The service slow.

Had a takeaway from here last night for the second time and had salt and pepper chicken. It was really dry and chewy. A shame becuse the first time we had a takeaway it.was good

If you like Cantonese food then this is the best food I have found in Devon so far between Tiverton and Tavistock! Yes I do drive miles to try and find a decent Chinese! 😅

I’ve been to quiet a few Chinese restaurants I think they need to think about there table we stated with crispy prawn they where totally not cooked then the ribs where cold the mains where hot but there was as no heated table plate the food got cold very quickly was not good if you want a bad tummy in the morning it’s the place to go

We visited Saturday for our sons 18th, service was excellent and very friendly, food was very good with almost no complaints. To explain, crispy chilli beef was missing the chilli, so next time I'll remember to ask. Highly recommend the Golden Panda.

Have never eaten such a disgusting chinese in all my life. Food was cold despite eating it just 5 minutes after it came. Chicken tasted vile, and overall was really greasy.

The worst Chinese food we have ever had. Microwaved fish, unappealing dry chicken satay and uninviting spring rolls. No attention to detail. Better from M&S which would also be an awful lot less expensive. Just dreadful food in a basic environment that feels as if it is lacking any love.

Had a takeaway crispy Mongolian lamb, 10% off for takeaway order, and was quite a good amount. Very yummy, was even given complimentary crackers.

Worse Chinese in tiverton, I'd never go again, was over priced and tasted horrible. Was charge 50 pounds just for service, it was cold 🥶 and no wear near worth the money we spent, there was 12 of us never again don't waste your money.

Staying locally and needed to eat. Tried this place and was pleasantly surprised. Had crispy shredded chili beef, special fried rice and vegetable spring rolls. Fortune cookies and prawn crackers thrown in free of charge. Hot, fresh and tasty. Thank you

As a regular customer at the Golden Panda, I have always found the food to be excellent and the staff charming and helpful. So, I was very surprised and disappointed to read the Food Standards Agency's assessment of food hygiene. I agree that the building does need work, but this can only be done if finances allow - perhaps DCC's small business advisers could assist?

We had a meal out with friends - food was delicious and service was very good. We would thoroughly recommend. The Golden Panda is deservedly a local institution

Had a takeaway, and the staff were so helpful when it came to gluten-free options. Food was gorgeous and flavoursome.

We were met by a friendly staffing team, nothing was too much trouble and the food was beautiful, tasty, well presented and well prepared. We didn't stay for desserts as we had two young children with us. Which again was no hassle. To keep things simple, we will be returning! The dishes we ordered were: Chicken chow mein King prawn chow mein Lemon chicken Chicken balls Kung Po chilli chicken Chicken Sizzler with Satay sauce H'ors D'oeuvres for two BBQ ribs (dry) Chips Egg fried rice Special fried rice

We had a great meal ,the food was freshly cooked, hot and delicious, service was very good, very friendly and helpful . We were near the door which was rather drafty, next time we will ask to be further back and up the stairs !! Will definitely be back. Thank you golden panda .

Lovely order from menu Buffet. Nice and fresh ingredients. We all enjoyed what we ate, and good value if you eat well. welcoming staff. Slows down a little when busy, so don't go if you are in a rush. Keep up the good work and highly recommend it.

I've been eating at the Golden Panda for 25 years, and have ALWAYS experienced top quality food and service. The buffet is cooked to order and all you can eat, and at it's current price of under £20, I still think represents good value for money, although others seem to moan a lot about the price going up. Prices have gone up everywhere. Surprised by the whingers and moaners on here - some people are obviously never happy,

2nd visit within a month food is well prepared fresh and hot to the table friendly staff cannot fault we celebrated our anniversary eleven of us and recently a birthday cessation five of us , they even kindly served us our shop bought birthday cake with no trouble at all. Golden Panda is one to try.

Nice food, although staff were polite, were a little slow to to come and take orders, especially for seconds on main course. Good value though.

Visited on Friday evening. Nobody else there. Not much atmosphere. But food was okay. Staff friendly. Also for take away.

My first time trying the food here, I usually get it from a different place but they had been taken off just eat so I thought why not try it. £10 for chicken balls to take away? Which were very small, small enough to fix in a box. They tasted like they had been cooked in very old oil, and had some odd rice crispys at the bottom. Anywhere else you go you are looking at £6.50-£7 and they were much bigger and nicer. The bbq sauce that came with it tasted like it had gone sour, the only thing that was fine was the chips. Staff didn’t really seem to care about customer service. Won’t go again

The smallest amount of chicken for £8 yes we didn’t want veg in it but even still Chips where forgotten and the sauce was like soup 🤮 would upload a picture but it isn’t letting me.

Food wasn’t great, the edges were piping hot and the middle of the dish was cold. Service was dire. Waited over an hour for 3 dishes that never came to the table, in the end we just payed for our food we did get and left. Definitely not all you can eat. You get more food if you just go to a normal Chinese restaurant and you would pay less per head.

Excellent food best I've had in ages

Arrived here one evening expecting a nice meal. Immediately when entering the venue was a pile of chairs that looked like a poltergeist had decided to have a party and thrown several seats toward the entrance. After narrowly avoiding tetanus from splinters and having a right laugh watching my mother in law tackle the chair obstacle course we were lead to our table at the back of the dinning area. The decor was very tired but didn't seem to bother the black mould built up in the corners and down the walls. We choose our drinks and ordered our food. The waitress was clueless when asked about various meals and just said a random string of words that ended up sounding like a child trying to come off intelligent. The food didn't take long to come out, almost to quick. Pretty sure that poor microwave worked his little heart out to the end now deserves a 3 day city break in the Cotswolds. After a few minutes I popped to the loo. Now, they say you can usually judge a venues kitchen by the condition of the conveniences. If this if true.. The toilets were terrible. The top of the cistern cover had been removed and string was hanging out presumably to operate the broken mech inside. All the while exposing a vast amount of more black mould within. All in all the state resembled what can only be described as derilict. So to sumerise our visit, the food was ok. At best. The venue needs some serious money spent on it.

Well what a great time at the golden panda last night.staff were fantastic food to die for service great we had a 1st class experience.thank you all especially Sylvia And the chef for his fantastic rose carving made from a carrot 10/10. Would highly recommend it.

Rubbish comes to mind the food was all brought out at the wrong times ie noodles and rice out ages before the main dish to go with it very packed hated evey minute of it and very expensive

Went for an all you can eat buffet meal... Food was as expected, service was diabolical. Starters arrived promptly, but there was an hour wait for the main by which time the other table in our party were eating dessert. As we had a 2 hour time slot to eat we had to forgo dessert although it wasnt even offered. When explaining this upon paying the bill the manageress told me I should have asked for dessert. To whom? The non existent waiter???No apology, no accountability just contempt that I dare question their service. I will never set foot in this "restaurant" again. Overpriced, understaffed and under par.

This place is "great great great" especially on a Thursday when £18 a head buys you an above average spread of Chinese foody delights!

Have many any fond memories of this place from far too many years ago to remember. It was delicious as always.
