The Golden Lion in Mid Devon

The chicken was raw in the curry. Pink, slimy and glistening. I sent them a message and a photo through Facebook to which no one replied. Sadly won’t be back after this. The Golden Eagle is leagues better.

Placed telephone order, food was ready in 30mins which was good. Upon arrival my first impression wasn't great. The real disappointment came when I got home. The food was awful. Bbq sauce was SOOOO salty and not proper bbq sauce. Big chunks of raw chilli in some dishes. Bad chips. Chicken curry was not good. Tiny slither of duck inside a massive duck roll. General poor taste of every dish we bought. I'm not to leave reviews but we were so disappointed and binned so much I felt the need to warn others. Waste of £60 😔 such a shame. Oh the prawn were nice though

Food came fast even though it was busy, good tasting with no mix up and was good meal portions giving you extra for your money!!! Definitely worth it

ordered a delivery take away at 5pm delivery time given as 1810 rang them at 1830 to cancel be there in 5 minutes . Arrived at 7 pm ish and refused. Rubbish service DO NOT USE. Zero customer service. Very poor in everything

I've had lots of meals from these in the past however the last 2 times have been so different. Virtually cold when we received them and the quality was very poor. From being a loyal customer to someone who will never buy them them again. It's a shame as they have been good in the past.

The best Chinese I've had in years.

Helpful , friendly and knowledgeable staff. Don't usually like Chinese that much. This definitely took it to another level in terms of quality and value for money. Impressed at flavour, fresh tasting, 30 minutes to wait. Nice area at the front with a comfortable seat. Seemed to be a few local people coming in for their usual which is a good sign 👍. Got the order correct, free prawn crackers were good too. I think you can eat in too, although haven't tried this option as yet.

Went to the Golden Lion to get a Chinese takeaway for a birthday party, should have ordered over the phone but placed order when we got there. Half hour wait for order to be completed but food was excellent.

Normally had lovely Chinese from here but last night it was disappointing. The Prawn Toast tasted like it had cheese in it, they have never been like that before. I did message them of my thoughts & was given £6 credit off my next order. I think it will be a while before I order from there again.

Lovely service but need to be more careful with contamination. Ordered a pork dish but when received it also contained prawns which it wasnt supposes to.

I ordered a delivery and was told it would be delivered in an hour. Two hours later I am still waiting. Managed to get through on the phone and was cut off. This service is a disgrace do not bother ordering from them.

Had a take away end of August the pork was so tough it wasnt edible , I rang to let them know and they credited me for the dish which I felt was more than fair . Tonight I again ordered for home delivery amongst other things Pork Balls, with Sweet/Sour sauce big mistake again they were unchewable so ended up in the bin, the remainder of the meal was plentiful but mediocre at best ,The spring rolls were chewy. They will not be getting another chance im afraid twice bitten third time shy . no axe to grind just speaking as i find .Disappointed

Very disappointed, one of the worst chinese takeaways I’ve ever had.

Ordered a takeaway for delivery having never used before as a visitor to the area. Delivery was prompt, food excellent. The containers were stuffed full with lots of fresh veg and meat. Very good value.

Very disappointing. Just had a Take Away delivered 19/06/2022. Total waste of money. This is the second time now. I like to give second chance.. Virtually uneatable. Egg Fried Rice had lumps of hard rice. Meat didn't taste good . Side order of mushrooms had something like white specks and a strange taste. Ended up putting in the bin. Never again.

Superb. First order from this Chinese was extremely successful. Piping hot, fresh and tasty. We will definitely be ordering again.

Pretty poor unfortunately. The crispy beef was coasted In a super sweet, and quite unpleasant sweet and sour sauce. We all love it from other places but two orders now going in the bin. Satay chicken (satay should taste of peanuts unless I'm wrong?) Is just boiled chicken in a slightly spicy brown water. Not a single hint of satay. Hardly any flavour at all. Shame. I don't get to treat the family to take away very often and this has been a big waste of money 😕 The rest was just kinda OK. No one here finished theirs and seemed a bit let down.

Terrible service. Food very very late and cold and driver assuled me on my own driveway. In contact with police. Do not use !!! This is the worst you can get for delivery!!!!!!!

Always great quality takeaway, definitely best i. Cullompton, the time of delivery is quite long but there is a collection option which is quicker. Fair prices and massive portions! Sweet and sour sauce needs upgrade though!

Having had a takeaway from here before, we decided on Chinese, to celebrate our son's 21st birthday. I think that McDonald's would have been a better choice. At least the food is freshly cooked. Our son, who is a qualified chef, said that everything was pre-prepared and heated up in a microwave. The beef with ginger and spring onions, was just a few pieces of over cooked beef, half a spring onion and 2 small slices of ginger. The rest of the pot was onion. It had no taste whatsoever. The duck was tasteless and the lamb was chewy. The spring rolls were chewy. The noodles were dry and in a lump. The rice was in a lump. Most of it ended up in the bin. Oh, the prawn crackers were ok!! Certainly won't be going here again and definitely wouldn't recommend it.

This was the worst Chinese food I have ever had, The noodles were congealed, the pancakes were so hard you could not eat them. Most of our order went in the bin. I did phone and complained and was told I was just used to other restaurants which I will be using in the future because I like to eat what I pay for

Decent Chinese takeaway, with very fast service

Without question, the best Chinese takeaway for miles around. Excellent on the phone, very prompt delivery and it’s piping hot. Genuine customer and not a friend of the business. Albeit.... I am now! 😉 Shiney... Uffculme.... yes they deliver out here too. 👍

We arrived to a queue but most people had already pre ordered. Whilst waiting for our order the phone did not stop ringing. The food was hot and the spice in the curry was plentiful we are glad we paid a return visit. The only downside for us was that they did not deliver to our campsite because it took 15 minutes round trip. However with food that tastes this good it was worth waiting for and collecting ourselves

Just reopened after closing for the coronavirus lockdown, had a first time home delivery arranged for 7 pm and ordered just after 5 pm, came at 7.15 which wasn’t a problem and the delivery man apologised for the delay. Ordered a meal for two which was of a better quality than before the lockdown,only £1 delivery charge . Both of us very pleased.

We went to the Golden Lion as a party of 6 , and decided to go for the £18 all-you-can-eat option. We a selection of great starters including some yummy chicken sate in peanut sauce. For our mains we had a selection of around 12-13 dishes which only scratched the surface of the extensive menu - all of them delicious! After all that we were pretty stuffed (lightweights!), but I am sure other people could have carried on sampling. The service was very efficient and helpful. An experience, in a lovely building which must have an interesting history, not to be missed. A good night out! :-)

I rarely write a bad review, I would rather say nothing. For speed tonight we needed a takeaway. When we got it home it was hard to work out how the dishes equated to our order: two seemed identical and the rice contained prawns and slabs of some unidentifiable flesh. We haven't eaten meat for over 30 years so this was disappointing. We couldn't face the 12 mile round trip to take it back so we fed it to the cats, but even they weren't keen. What we could salvage was unpalatable and seemed of poor quality. Awful. Not one to repeat.

Food is always fresh plentiful and tasty. Use lots of fresh veg unlike many takeaways that throw in 1 pea. Lol. Really recommend this place for taste and value.. go check it out. I guarantee you will not be disappointed with the food or the service. Excellent/ Uitstekend. 👌👌👌👌

Lovely meal and we will be going back again.had a take away from here last night and it was perfect I live 15mins from restaurant and it was still piping hot when I got home 100% happy .

Had a delivery from here while we were working nearby, absolutely delicious, so much so we are having one every night we are here, and thats going to be a while, will update on what we have had but to date, the double fried pork is tops at the moment, beef curry also a close contender, watch this space.

Hi me and my family while on holiday in Devon got a takeaway , well it was one of the best takeaways we have had,and i have been to a good few takeaways , the food was fabulous big portions the taste was to die for, if you are in this part of Devon get ya self there,,,,,, ITS GOOD!

We were staying at a hotel nearby and fancied Chinese. A quick check on Trip Advisor pointed us in the direction of The Golden Lion. There is the option of a la cartel or ‘buffet’. We chose the buffet, which is actually where you order the food you want, but it’s a set price for ‘all you can eat’. The food was delicious, the service was great and obviously we left feeling stuffed. Really good value for money and definitely recommended. The also do takeaway service which was also very busy.

I have tried many chinese restaurants and takeaways and nothing compares to the golden lion. Never disappointed myself and my partner. Delivery is always on time when estimated. Food is great and highly recommend the crispy chilli beef!!

I tried delivery tonight and it ruined my evening. I waited till after the rush to order. Told 50 mins to a hour. Hour and a half later it arrives with a rude driver who put my food on the floor instead of handing it to me. The food was cold and the condensation in containers from sitting in a heat cupboard and in a car ages made the food full of water. Spring roll were so small they had nothing in them. Asked for egg fried rice and given one with meat in and charged £6 I'm vegetarian. Disappointed. No hot box used. Put most of it in the bin.

Delicious, all the various meats in the special chow mein were so tasty n very tender. Lovely selection of vegetables😍 ....... definitely order again.

This is the best Chinese Takeaway in Cullompton. Nicely presented in the old Golden Lion pub. Parking a bit tight in the road, although there is its own car park to the right of the building.

The food is amazing, especially if you eat in. The deliver service is handy but they say it will take about an hour, but 99.9% of the time it always comes early so don't go out or jump in the shower ( I speak from experience with that 1 ) also some times it can get to you a little cool instead of piping hot , but that is a rare thing, and if you call up to tell them they are always happy 2 sort it out for you. The younger staff need 2 learn customer service more than being on their phones or chatting to each other, but it's the same no matter where you these days with younger staff. I highly recommend this place . The 'all u can eat buffet' is really good and great value. The dishes are cooked fresh 2 order.

We have just stayed at Upton Lakes Lodges & thoroughly enjoyed 2 delivered meal treats. An hour waiting time was advised but it arrived earlier & hot. We (family of four) came here four years ago & it is as good now as it was then. Would recommend.

Excellent food and fast delivery.

Consistently the go-to takeaway in cully. The food is genuinely good for the price, the service is real friendly - you can't ask for more really. The main downside is that they seem to be really busy sometimes and deliveries can take a while, but it's always worth the wait. Eating in is always comfortable too - well worth a visit.

The best Chinese in cullompton. Don't listen to the bad reviews on delivery time - due to their popularity it seems sometimes they get SO busy. Don't let this put you off because it's well worth the wait. Waitresses and waiters are very attentive and range of drinks and puddings are also superb.

Shocking service...ordered for delivery told an hour 2 hours later it turns up cold and uneatable. Rang to complain and told we could have £10 credit. Chinese cost me £20 and I couldn’t eat any of it, yet they think a £10 credit is acceptable.......I don’t think so. I took it back drove out my way! Unacceptable angry at the poor service and hungry!

The best Chinese restaurant in the area , never had a dish here I could find fault with , portions are very generous order your take-away and make your workmates jealous with the next day when they see your lunch .

Usually use China Orchid. Was getting a take out so figured would give them a try as reviews were good. Never again...food was not good. The crispy beef was not crispy and was chewy. The spring rolls were soggy and the egg fried rice was more like boiled rice. Hardly any flavour and poor quality. Sadly ended up in the bin.

We popped here for a take away as most were closed near new year, the food was good and tasty nothing to amazing but for Chinese take away food worth a visit if your in the area.

Ordered a takeaway to be delivered as we often do from the golden lion,said it would come in about an hour,arrived 25 min after my phone call a bit suspect to say the least.I ordered quarter duck in plum sauce.when it arrived one half of the container was freezing cold,l opened only to find masses of large pieces of pinapple and some slices of duck fat in a orange sauce,not a plum or duck in sight! I phoned up and told them they had given me the wrong order,their answer to this was this is how we cook duck in plum sauce! Needless to say the meal ended up in the bin cos I can,t stand pinapple and duck fat and shall not be using them again
