The best restaurants in Forest of Dean South West

We had a booking for 7 people last night at 2000. When we arrived, 10 minutes late due to an event overrun, we were informed the table had been given to someone else (there was clearly a table set for 7 with no one sitting at it.) This was despite having a booking email which stated the table would be held for 15minutes beyond the booked time. We have a photo of us leaving the restaurant at 2013. The staff were rude, unhelpful and informed my husband we should have rung ahead. We had- no one answered the phone. The food we had the last time we visited this Pizza Express was mediocre but we thought we would give it a second chance. We will not be giving it third. In an area with several very good Italian restaurants, you would have thought customer service would be a priority- obviously not.

The most amazing pub with amazing food. I couldn’t recommend this place enough. It’s the 2nd time in 2 weeks we have come here, despite living about 50 minutes away. Which just speaks for itself. The staff are so lovely and so welcoming. Our favourite pub by far, I can not wait for this new menu I that’s about to drop!

Stopped here for Sunday dinner and then a Monday evening meal, both were amazing, sunday dinner, meat, gravy, veg, absolutely lovely, 1 thing I would have liked more cabbage with the veg, apart from that, knock out. Mo day evening meal, we had 2 meals off the classics, scampi and bangers and mash, partner loved the scampi with the tartar sauce and chips, bangers and mash, the banger were.....banging, the mash, lovely and creamy and the gravy was so nice, a definite stop when we are this way again and would travel here for Sunday dinner alone

Our sever, Cathy, was lovely, very polite, sociable and friendly. Our food and drinks were delicious. Would definitely recommend.

Great chip shop but I had to knock a star off because it is not as good as it used to b e. The last 5 years or so the chips have been tasteless and dry, they use to taste amazing and be lovely and soft. The fish is still ok. Maybe they have started using a cheaper oil?

Yet again, another deeply disappointing and underwhelming delivery and food experience from Milano! Despite disappointments in the past I thought I would try them again as they have recently re-branded. opened another premises next door and have installed a user friendly ap. I ordered a home delivery online - no issues with that at all and no issue with the fact that my ETA was approximately one and a half hours - it was a bank holiday Sunday so you expect to wait. Where I DO take issue is the fact that the food arrived stone cold! To pay over 44 quid for a couple of pizzas, a wrap and some meat, chips etc and receive them stone cold is completely unacceptable! To then ring and make them aware of the situation to be informed that the delivery car left the premises as soon as our order had been cooked and delivered immediately is blatantly untrue - we live just over 3 miles away!?! The fact that the management couldn’t even be bothered to take my call but was shouting in the background to his employee what to say to me says it all… No one minds mistakes, no one minds waiting but please don’t insult my intelligence and tell me my food had been cooked to order and delivered immediately. Don’t rip people off who have agreed to place an order with you and in good faith expect to receive their food hot - well to be fair, you could have had me at warm!! Don’t pass the buck and expect your phone operative to take the flack and not respond yourself to complaints. He’s probably on minimum wage and didn’t cook the food so he’s not the problem - you are. Take accountability, don’t rip people off and don’t send your food out COLD!!

Not once had a bad meal from here since these owners have taken over. Good food, always delivered at a reasonable time and always hot.

Food was lovely! I had broken down in a layby and they delivered to me so top quality service and was tasty too

This is the only pub at the top end of Lydney and a handy watering hole if you are staying at the motel two or three minutes' walk away. Good range of beers which for me as a refugee from Surrey are offered at extremely attractive prices.

Great value pasties, sandwiches and cakes. Good range and great prices. Friendly service, perfect place to pick up a quick lunch.

Staff very rude on phone and face to face , food poor , undercooked to the point makes you unwell and description online poor as well Never would I ever recommend anyone to go there and never am I ever ordering from there again! Waste of money and time….

First visit here, came for a light lunch. Staff were polite and helpful but the food left a lot to be desired. My Chai latte was lovely but my partner's coffee was awful. The cup was full to the brim with no room for the milk. I ordered the beef, mushroom & stilton panini with salad, crisps and home made coleslaw. It was cold in the middle, the cheese hadn't melted and the beef was tough. The coleslaw was weird, no flavour and the salad was just a couple of tomatoes and green leaves, no dressing. My partner's ham and tomato sandwich was very basic with the same salad. The surroundings are nice, with an orange tree by our table but the food was very basic and mine hadn't been toasted for long enough. Really not worth the money and I doubt we'll visit again.

I ordered house special fried rice it had virtually no flavour at all and was lukewarm. I also ordered Chinese spareribs these were awful The meat was hard and stale and the ribs were just warmed up and poured very weak sauce over the top I rang and complained and I was told if you don’t like them don’t bloody buy them. As a Chinese chef. This person is a disgrace to Chinese food he certainly does not know how to cook will never ever go there again.
