If you have had a previous poor opinion of this cafe , then I suggest you give it another visit our experience of May 2024 was ,wow what an improvement from our pre Covid visit. Staff are friendly and happy to help. Well done Taurus etc for helping local people and their crafts. We will be back soon.

Went here for a Mothers day treat from my Son. What a big disappointment . We ordered a jacket potato, Teas, cake and a ready packed sandwich. My potato arrived in a polystyrene take away box with wooden knife and fork. Had I wanted my food served in a box I would have stayed home and ordered a take away. We waited 20minutes,(despite them not being busy as this was nearly 3pm and 4 members of staff stood talking behind the counter)for the cake ,sandwich and teas. I had eaten my potato by the time their food had arrived. The cake and tea came in a take away polystyrene box and cups. A very poor and disappointing experience especially for a special occasion as Mothers Day. Don't be fooled by the phot advertising their café, you wont get china plates cups etc. Will definitely not be returning there o eat.

I was being served by the lovely lady at the till when someone came out of the back room dressed in black and shouting that this is no good. From what I understand the lady on the till had sent a message saying that they had run out of sandwiches. She then asked someone to take over from her. Then the lady at the till then apologised to everyone and went into the kitchen. Afterwards she came out and apologised again.

Breakfast and coffee took 30 minutes to arrive, though cafe was almost empty. When it arrived the food and drinks were cold and the mushrooms turned out to be a sprinkle of mushroom, not even amounting to one whole mushroom. The craft centre is great but the cafe is a joke. we will never return to the cafe.

Recommended by the estate agents we were touring the area with we dropped in for a coffee and lite bite, I had the Mac and cheese Jenny had the tuna mayo jacket. Both were delicious and the staff so friendly and helpful. It was excellent value for money and the portions were generous. We each had a latte coffee which again was very nice and of a decent size. Will be going back again and again I’m sure if we do end up buying in the area.

Was served nachos made with tomato ketchup! Inedible. Sent therm back. The manageress(?) then brought out a jar of salsa and insisted they were made with this. After 40+ years of eating both, I do know the difference. I applaud their ethos but you can’t argue what was clearly a mistake. Ridiculous!

We decided to book for a valentines meal for this evening, when we got there we had our photograph taken as a little momento of our evening which we thought was a lovely touch. We had a lovely three course meal and 2 soft drinks each for £40.00 which I felt was amazing value for money, the food was delicious and the cafe was decorated nicely with a nice atmosphere. The staff were friendly. We had a lovely night and was given a rose to take home. Will definitely be back again.

The cafe has all the appearance and feel of a typical nice cafe. Unfortunately the food menu was very limited and significantly overpriced for bare minimum meals. Example: £7.50 for two pieces of baguette with small slices of ham and cheese, with a plain salad on the side Not awful at all, just underwhelming food for too much money. Good if you want a nice feeling cafe for a small cafe meal and price is no concern. Just a warning that you'll be spending £10 for a bare minimum 'meal' (more like a snack) and a drink.

Lovely range of individual craft shop, not all being open when we visited. The handmade glass shop is simply perfect. Glass beads, scented tea light holders, the most gorgeous lamps in varying sizes. Lots of gift ideas at reasonable prices. We also intended to visit the cafe on our way out. This turned out to be very confusing & waste of time. We initially sat at our chosen table following the written instructions and waited for the table service. We then noticed a woman being served at the counter. My husband went up to order only to be told that our order would be taken from our table. We then waited 15 minutes without anyone coming near our table. We could see the staff behind the counter chatting. We decided to leave and go elsewhere. Craft shops are well worth a visit but cafe left us feeling disappointed.

Stood about 8 metres from the outdoor hut to see what was available (when distance rule is 1 metre plus) The woman behind the counter demanded we go to the side. Went to the side and stood over 2 metres behind the only other person there, only to get a demand that we should go right round the corner. We found her attitude offensive and left. Not busy, been there many times but won't go there again. We were trying to support a local business.

We've been visiting Taurus regularly for the best part of ten years and we usually have a drink and a snack in the cafè. Today my wife and I had lunch. The café was busy, but not rammed, and there was a good Christmassy atmosphere, with lots of amusing pullovers etc. Service, as usual, quick and attentive, and the steak and kidney pie I opted for from the specials board was one of the very best I have eaten outside of my own family circle. Plenty of tender steak and a reasonable quantity of kidney in a tasty gravy, topped off with a feather light, inch-and-a-half-high puff pastry crust. Served with new potatoes and a nice selection of fresh vegetables. My Other Half had a baked potato with tuna and a very fresh, crisp-looking side salad. Very good indeed, and the two mains plus drinks came in at under £20. Excellent value.

We came to the Krazy golf and stayed for the café. A panino came with salad and the creamiest coleslaw- absolutely delicious.Cheesy nachos filled a hungry pre-teen, and had the added bonus of an amazing fiery salsa on the side.Lasagne was delicious and filling and bubbling-hot when it arrived. The cheese ploughman's came with hunks of cheese, half an apple, some salad and lumps of bread- certainly rustic but not such good value for what was there. The service was friendly and quick, and the surroundings were beautiful. There is a wide selection of cakes and desserts too.The only reason for giving 4/5 is that there were lots of tables left with crockery and glasses once people had left: we saw two tables of people find their table and clear it themselves- piling things onto another uncleared table- and it was still some time before anyone came to tidy and clean up.

Stopped at the Crafts centre for a toilet stop and a look around. It wasn't a school holiday so it was pretty quiet and several of the craft shops were shut but still worth a look.It was a nice setup helping local artists, crafts, etc, and there are lots of lovely things on show and to buy. We also liked the fact that they employed a mixed ability team, providing work placements & also employed people with mental health and learning disabilities. A very worthy cause. After looking around we decided to have coffee & cake (a common occurrence for us), and we sat in the room with art on display and a lovely indoor tree which was lovely, as was the coffee and cake.Nice place to visit, especially at the weekend I imagine.

Quite a mixed bag. I thought the service was the biggest let down. We ordered two hot lunches and two coffees. As I was paying I was told the coffees would be 10 minutes (they took a little longer than this actually), but no explanation as to why two lattes would take this long (it was reasonably busy but not hugely so as the main lunchtime rush seemed to be over). I explained we wanted them before the food as we wouldn't want to drink with the food, but was met with a blank stare. The coffees were far too hot when they arrived and the milk had been scalded. On the food, the pork and bean cassoulet was very delicious and tasty. The carbonara was average and had clearly been over-heated (possibly microwaved) as the cheese had split into an oily mess (which was evident from its appearance when it was delivered). The staff who brought the coffee and food had a fairly abrupt manner and didn't really seem interested in engaging with us. Would probably go back as there aren't many convenient food options around there, but hopefully will do better next time.

Dear lord I have never experienced worse food. The panini was undercooked, the ploughman's consisted of a block of cheap Brie and a stale roll with some wilted lettuce. Visited the Taurus Crafts cafe, ordered our drinks and sat in the conservatory. Ten minutes after we had ordered a staff member told us (as well as another family with a dog who were also sitting in the cafe) that they didn't allow dogs. The other family said that they had been told that dogs were allowed but were still asked to move outside. We refused to move outside (my niece is allergic to wasp stings and it is wasp season). The next staff member to confront us was very rude saying she would call the police if we did not move. She said that it was a case of local authority hygiene rules, we pointed out that this is untrue (legislation says dogs are allowed in pubs & restaurants just not in food prep areas) and also that there were NO signs displayed so how were we to know? Taurus Crafts has a huge number of visitors with dogs (plenty of them today) so a polite sign would save everyone's time and upset.

The panini itself was quite hard and very difficult to cut. The coleslaw was bland and the salad was quite clearly out of a bag and beyond its best: brown on the cut edges (I wouldn't serve that at home let alone to a paying customer).Definitely not value for money £5.75 each.If I am ever passing again I will definitely stop again to try the cake which looked very good but will not order from the menu again.

As a local, I read with indignation the review of another contributor. Taurus Crafts is a year round asset to the Forest of Dean but at this time of year, it should be a one stop for anyone wanting to metaphorically put the icing on their cake. The event staff here seem to work incredibly hard to provide a wonderful atmosphere and a wide array of goods which should please everyone. I was present in the cafe on more than one occasion throughout this years Christmas markets and whilst I would agree that there is an air of apparent chaos, I feel that this almost adds to the atmosphere! Certainly there can sometimes be a wait for your order but no longer a wait than you would have at Costa! Prices are in line with any other catering facility and the food I have had there has been excellent. My family of 4 adults and 2 children had cooked lunches and drinks for around £40 - after an approximately 20 minute wait, which was more than acceptable anywhere at this time of year. The staff work hard and this was evident while I was there with everything delivered with a smile even though they were very clearly up against it. Any establishment, like Taurus, which uses a team of mixed ability staff should be given credit, not criticism. Myself and family already look forward to our next visit. Thank you Taurus.

We were passing here after watching the Severn Bore & called in for a look round & lunch.Access was good for us as my partner was in her wheelchair. There were ramps where needed & plenty of space for us around the tables. The choice of food was good with a selection of hot & cold plus the options of the soup of the day & a few specials. We ordered at the counter, where there needs to be a sign saying “Queue Here” as I stood waiting a while before realising there were two queues. Eventually I was served & returned to the table to await delivery of our choices. The coffee was hot and tasted good & the food was well presented. With plenty on the plate we were both pleased with our choices. The food was freshly prepared & also tasted good. We only ordered a light lunch but we both found it filled us up ready for the rest of our day. After lunch we perused a few of the units looking at various crafts & wares, as well as chatting to the friendly & very helpful staff. The array of goods on display was very well shown off & a lot of It was either local and or hand made. There were also some more unusual things which is always good to see.To conclude I’ll say that the food was reasonably priced, was fresh & tasted good. The array of goods for sale here is varying & somewhat different. We found the staff members were polite, friendly & helpful, & we hope to return later in the year when they have another one of their Christmas fairs on.

Have visited this cafe a few times over the years and was disappointed on this visit. Went to order food to be told quite rudely by the lady that lunch isn't served until 12. It was 11.55. I said this was fine but could I order anyway. Ordered cheese salad sandwich and ham and mustard sandwich. One sandwich was just grated cheese and a slice of cucumber and tomato on the side. The other had only ham and no mustard. Shouldve complained but I had my little boy with me and he was hungry and at nearly £6 each for these sandwiches I won't be visiting again. It seems the food offered is very hot and Miss as I noticed other sandwiches going out which looked far better than what I had. I know the cafe employs people of mixed abilities but we are still paying customers. Can I also advise you that although your highchairs may look crafty they are actually quite dangerous. No straps and a baby could very easily tip themselves over the edge.

We visit regularly but usually stick to just coffee or tea and cake. Tried breakfast today and wished we hadn't. Took best part of half hour to arrive and whilst the breakfast baps were good the poached egg arrived on bone-dry brown toast that was burnt, with no butter provided. Come on surely you can do better than that?

Called in here on route from the M4 looking for a decent snack and refreshments. The staff are very pleasant and helpful but the food I chose was lacking in quality. I chose a Brie and Cranberry Tart and Salad. The Tart was overcooked, with the pastry rock hard and inedible. The salad consisted some under ripe tomato, a small amount of cucumber, and lots of tough bitter leaves with home made coleslaw which consisted of very thick cabbage pieces, and little else. The rice salad was delicious however. My companion had smoked salmon sandwiches which were served with thickly sliced bread, fresh, but might have come with a little more garnish than a quarter of a small tomato and a little piece of iceberg lettuce. The elderflower drink served icy cold was delicious and the tea was of decent quality and very flavoursome. I noticed people being served roast lunches of generous proportions but some people were leaving loads of vegetables on their plates uneaten for some reason. There is disabled access and a single toilet serving disabled as well as ladies and gents. A courtyard outside to sit in was well populated, and there was plenty of seating inside.

We stopped on our way back to Wales hoping for some coffee and cake and we were not disappointed. We had the triple chocolate cake, 2x jam and coconut sponge and cappuccino cake, along with a latte, 2x organic lemonade and apple juice all for only £14.50.We had a little wander there was a glass shop with such a friendly guy a chocolate shop where you can buy even more cake. A few gift shops and a place the kids could make a bear or pain some pottery. If it was a sunny day there was a beach garden to relax in along with a small park: okay area.We stopped in the farm shop to pick up a couple of bits very nice but quite expensive. If you have an hour take the kids to pain some pottery and then go for lunch whilst it is being fired.

Out for a lovely drive around the area and stopped for coffee and cakes at the Taurus cafe. Lemon curd and Rhubarb & apple cakes were delicious and the coffees were frothy and hot! The actual room is pretty with whitewashed walls, oak beams and lovely art all around. Great place for a pit-stop and a browse.

I was surprised to see a number of negative reviews on the cafe. We are in the area quite often and call in, usually for a coffee and cake, very occasionally for a meal, as it is very convenient. The service has always been good and friendly, the tables are cleared very quickly and the food is fine. It is sometimes busy, depending on time of day, but we have never had to queue or wait for any longer than in, say, a garden centre at that time. Last week we called in after 4.30 and still got served. And their brownies are the best around.

We visited on a Sunday morning and it was fairly quiet. We had a quick look in the shops and then decided we needed a cup of tea. We popped in to the cafe which was quite busy. We ordered tea for two and were told to sit down and they'd bring it over. We waited about 20 minutes before it finally arrived. How long does it take to make a pot of tea? I think they deal with each order in turn, regardless of whether it's just a quick drink or a full breakfast/meal. Really quite disappointing. We plan to visit the area again but I'm afraid we'll go elsewhere for refreshments.

Good part first. The centre and the event we visited with many local brewers was excellent, despite the rain. Interesting shops and lots of extra stands etc, a good way to spend some time with friends who were visiting the area and staying with us.Secondly, the cafe...Joined queue at about 20 past 2, and it took 15 minutes for the staff member to take the previous customers order. Placed our order and returned to the table, 2 minutes later the staff member came over to hand the receipt over to me.2 minutes after that he came back and said we had ordered too late and they weren't going to serve us our food, so did we want a refund...Went up to the desk where the service was rude and unfriendly in every way - so no food or drinks and half an hour wasted there. For a tourist attraction with a special event I cannot fathom the closing of the food service at half 2, let alone taking an order and then deciding not to cook it.

I've been a regular visitor to Taurus over the years. The shopping is always good, with a good variety of gifts available. The restaurant usually has a nice variety of dishes. The car park is large and you can always find somewhere to park. The staff in the centre are always helpful and willing to help. One comment to be aware of is the centre tends to be rather expensive, typical of a tourist trap.

I went to Taurus cafe as part of our trip. My daughter and I shared a chicken tagine which was extremely nice. I am lactose intolerant and they have soya milk and could tell me very quickly which items contained dairy- a rare treat- I usually get fobbed off because people aren't sure so just say it has dairy to be safe. My son has a cheese toasty which he said was lovely too. The cakes looked lovely too but we were too full from lunch. We'll be back!

We had sandwiches, toasters and baked potatoes. The cheese toasty contained cheese that had not melted. The chicken sandwich contained the string loop for trussing the chicken. The bread of the bacon sandwich was full of fat. The jacket potato could have been hotter. We were offered a free cake when I mentioned the string. I really just wanted the feedback to reach the chef!

We visited today with four children aged 4 and under as we knew they would enjoy playing in the sand - and they did enjoy it, but only because we had thought ahead and bought our own buckets and spades! After playing in the sand for an hour we decided to get some lunch. It didn't look particularly busy, it was maybe 1/3 full, and there was only a short queue to place the order of 3 sandwiches, 1 jacket potato and 3 toasted teacakes. The teacakes arrived about 5 minutes after we ordered but the rest of the food took about 40 minutes, anyone with young children will know this was a disaster. To make things worse we had to sit in the conservatory as that was where the only table big enough to seat us was. It was so, so hot in there, which only served to make matters worse. When I enquired how much longer the food would be I was greeted with a huff and a puff from the waiter, who was clearly annoyed that I'd asked. Really not impressed, which is a shame because the rest of the centre was quite nice. I could understand the delay with the food if they were overly busy, but on the face of it, they weren't.

We visit here quite regularly as have family in Lydney. The cafe used to be really lovely, however I feel it is definitely going downhill. Soup today was tasty, but my toasted chicken sandwich consisted mainly of chicken skin and, was in parts, inedible. The accompanying salad garnish was also very uninspiring compared to previous meals. Meals are not cheap (£20.00 for two sandwiches, one soup and two small bottles of wine). Added to this it wasn't particularly busy, but the food took ages to arrive. Although the craft site is well worth a visit we will be eating elsewhere from now on.

We visited Taurus Crafts as we live locally and on he whole, it was a good way to spend several hours. The kids play area was quiet and meant our children could play at will, the weather and setting were nice and there is ample parking. There is a good choice of small artisan attractions like chocolatiers, jewellery makers and books and displays on many areas of wildlife and the local area. There is also a well stocked and relatively cheap garden centre to the rear of the site. My issue comes from the cafe area predominately. We decided that we would eat at Taurus but the price of the food for four people was prohibitively high so we decided that we wold have a cream tea and eat later. The scones were very dry, there was nowhere near enough jam and one of the two plastic pots of clotted cream was off. The pot of tea provided just about a cup each and was infact the same size as a pot that someone received if they were having their own cream tea. The biggest issue stemmed from the service time. There were 5 or 6 groups in the cafe when we arrived but there was only one person infront of me in the line, it took 15 minutes for us to get served despite there being 6 members of staff either wandering the room or stood chatting behind the counter. Whilst I waited for the the 'queue' to move, my woife took my kids over to the ice cream counter. For almost 10 minutes she waited whilst two teenage girls conversed behind the counter without noticing them and several other members of staff wandered by. The person I took to be the manager even wandered past with a dustpan and brush, not doing anything just wandering and not only did she not acknowledge that my wife was waiting she also did not ask one of the staff to serve her. To sum up there are many great things about Taurus Crafts but the customer service and staff efficiency is not one of them.

Dropped in for a quick snack. My tea-cake was lovely with real butter and jam but the coffee was disappointing - so weak it was almost tasteless. I guess I could have asked for an espresso but I happen to prefer a plain Americano. This is a lovely cafe and the food is usually good but, if they can't make a better cup of ordinary black coffee, it'll be a while before I return.

Was visiting Taurus Crafts, with the family and as we had some time to kill, we decided to eat lunch, at the cafe. After the experience we had as a family I will not be eating there again, The food was overpriced and the portions abysmal. Took them over 45 minutes to deliver 4 toasted sandwiches, well 3 because the 4th was missed off the order and we had to wait another 15 minutes for it to arrive untoasted.

I Love Taurus Crafts as a venue for artisan food, wonderful workshops and quirky outlets BUT my lat two visits to the cafe have been very disappointing. The first time i gave them the benefit of the doubt, but yesterday was just as poor, although in the past I have had some better than average lunches there.O ordered a jacket potato with cheese and an extra filling of bacon (an additional £!.50) The jacket was small with a bare tablespoon of cheese and a minute amount of not very interesting salad ,and my additional topping was eight very small shares of bacon - i doubt if it was half a rasher.I really didn't feel this was value for money and the presentation was less than inspiring. At several other local places I could have had an identical meal for the same price if not slightly less and the helpings would have been far more substantial. I won't be returning in a hurry I'm afraid.

There are a variety of places to sit in this café and we chose the barn, which is lovely. The coffees and cake were good but the service was very slow, largely because they have a strange system whereby the waitresses were both serving at the till and bringing out food, which meant that customers are quite often left waiting to order.

Paid a visit here with my boyfriend amd his parents. I ordered the meat balls with rice, the dish was very watery, rice over cooked and the meatballs didn't taste of anything but pepper. My boyfriend ordered the lasagne, this was a tiny portion but much more edible than the meatballs! His parents had sandwiches which looked and tasted good. If you wanted more than one filling in your sandwich it was pricey to do so, also with the jacket potatoes. Hence I didn't order a jacket. Coffee and hot chocolate were tasty. Would visit again but maybe just for a sandwich!

As Taurus crafts is a lovely place to visit & have a nosey, their restaurant is equally as welcoming, their drinks are very nice with a big variety their food is lovely but a tad over priced for the quality, I know it's produced locally which is great but it isn't as good as you expect it to be unfortunately it maybe lacks flavoring & pasaz! Other than that everything else is stunning such as their puddings & ice creams!

Didnt try food but those who did were very happy. Soon to become my local and can see myself spending nights here. Ample parking and play area for kids.

It’s a shame that the staff are the rudest people in the town. They lie, make excuses and are incredibly rude. It’s a shame because this used to be the best fish and chip shop in the area but even their delivery staff say that it’s unhygienic to deliver and someone had food poisoning (according to their own delivery man who I have recorded on the door cam!)
