This is the only pub at the top end of Lydney and a handy watering hole if you are staying at the motel two or three minutes' walk away. Good range of beers which for me as a refugee from Surrey are offered at extremely attractive prices.

I popped in here on my extended lunch break for a pint of nutbrown ale and asked the bloke behind the bar if they served food to which he replied; "no" he then did however offer to make me a cheese sandwich on white floppy bread to which I said yes... Basic two room, no frills boozer... Traditional pub, just as it should be.

An older style, double-fronted town pub reminiscent of a converted house with the bar to the right and the "Lounge" to the left. In a time warp. A proper, blokes, no-nonsense drinking pub, basic and unpretentious with the minimalist style and taste in decoration and furnishing. I last visited one of these in a back street in 1971. There should be a documentary produced about these pubs as they are fast disappearing! Food is on offer; sandwiches or chips with ....etc. Definitely not one of your fancy gastro-pubs!! A cheery barman and some good ales served: Golden Hen and Doom Bar. Worth popping in for a moment of nostalgia!
