Never again and probably the worst fish n chips I have ever had. The batter was greasy and dark brown and fish was dry like it a had been refried and the chips were the same. I didn't take a photo before I threw most in the bin, but the pic Camper52568780966 has posted in their review is spot on. Shame really, I had high hopes as its award winning.

This our first time ordering fish and chips from the Wye Fry and it will be our last. The batter was thick dark brown and fish was dry like it a had been refried and the chips were the same several with black areas which were inedible. £15.00 for something that should of been put in the food waste bin. Nothing like the description given on the menu. Very disappointed.

Fabulous fish n chips…Always fresh. The masala cod is amazing, although you must pre order this. Well worth a visit……..

Usually fantastic chips, but twice in the last couple of months i have had the last scrapings of the chips and they were dry and inedible. Such a shame and had to throw them away. I think you should really do a new batch when you are getting close to the back. I know it is a little wasteful but they were really rubbish. I normally recommend your chippy to everybody but if it happens again I will give up.

Its your standard chip shop. Prices are quiet standard compared to other shops. Could do with a bigger selection of drinks

We had fish and chips today fish was over cooked and dry, chips were terrible too. We went that way especially because we had great fish and chips before from them. Took them back, to complain, the owner said nothing wrong with his fish and chips and offered me chips to try, which looked totally different to the ones we had. We wondered because it was an early call approx. 12 noon that it was the previous nights food reheated. As I left he made very rude remarks about me to two men who were waiting and they all had a good laugh at my expense, This man does not deserve local customers.

Excellent value for money but cod was considerably overcooked so the batter was hard and the fish dry Hopefully they are better normally. Plus I was told the wait was 10 minutes whereas it was over 20. Maybe that was the issue .

Absolutely horrendous customer service. I had a complaint about being charged for something I didn’t receive, to which they lied that I wasn’t charged even though I had the receipt to prove it and the owner doesn’t deserve the awards they have because the chips are the 2nd worst I’ve had. The person is the most sarcastically rude person I’ve ever had the misfortune to deal with!

Fish and chips are really good, good quality fish and nice batter. Pizza is made to order with very generous toppings. But our favourite is the masala fish, different and really tasty. Very lucky to have the Wye Fry just up the road.

They say there the best fish & chip shop in the forest,WELL. Bought our family quite a lot off the menu. When we picked up the food and got home the chips was cold, the fish was undercooked, pizza was burnt, the burger I ordered must of been microwaved as it was hard in some places. Must be one of the worst chip shops I've been to in the forest.... AVOID

The cod was one of the best I have had—the batter was light and the portion size was huge. I don’t normally enjoy the chips at a chippy that much but these were excellent. If you prefer not to have your fish fried go for the masala fish—it’s baked in the pizza oven with an amazing spice mixture.

just visited wished i never had cold peas and the gravy i tipped away it was coloured water then i watch him put battered sausage and 6 fish in to refry then seen him put them put into server looked dark overcooked and should have been binned . i should know i ran a mobile fish and chip shop for years he should be ashamed to even offer this food for sale it is not a cheap meal so serve what customers expect fresh cooked quality food . never again .

Incredible experience start to finish. The staff were delightful, the chips were top quality and the portions were ample. As I bit into the first chip, I knew i was in for a delight; the initial crunch followed by the soft interior is a texture that very few culinary establishments are able to so masterfully recreate. I was served by the charming Isla who, despite barely being tall enough to see over the counter, provided efficient service while remaining friendly and talkative. I truly believe that she deserves a pay rise as she goes above and beyond to please the customers. A special mention also goes out to Raj, who rallies his troops in such a way that no job is left unfinished and no customer is left unhappy. I cannot recommend this place enough; I’ll be sure to return!

Haven't been to this chip shop for years as they were horrible then.Wish we hadn't bothered today,chips were cold and greasy.

We get meals here quite often and the chips are usually really nice and soft, and i would give a 5 star review but on Saturday they were dry ahd wrinkly, which was very disappointing. Has happened before but thankfully not very often. Please be consistent.

Had fish and chips (large cod and chips) from here on two occasions and both times it was absolutely delicious. Fish fresh, well cooked, crispy batter, chips perfect (good portion size!), good value for money, and quick service. Excellent chippy, highly recommend.

Called in on a walking holiday. Efficient if not friendly staff but his portions are huge , great quality too. Awsome

I’m a local, and when he first opened his food and service were very good, but unfortunately as they feel there’s no competition they have gone very much down hill! Worst food I’ve bought from a takeaway in ages, wont be going back.

Delicious fish and chips, always cooked well and speedily. Pleasant staff who actually seem pleased to see you. Fabulous.

We have lived in Lydbrook for 20 years but had stopped using the Wye Fry a few years back as the food was poor and the service was worse. The turn-around is nothing short of amazing! The food is now well cooked and of good quality and the service is superb. Our only complaint is that it is only open 4 days a week. Well done!

We found the wye fry excellent my wife and I shared cod and chips ,that was cooked to order ,staff friendly and polite.we really enjoyed and it was all very well cooked and taste.we will defenatly visit again .

It’s a local chippy offering good quality fish and chips. Wife and I had cod and shared a portion of chips which was plentiful. They do all the normal fish a chip shop products but have been back several times for the fish, lovely friendly staff in a good chippy.

Had a “New Yorker Pizza” and I have to say I’m extremely disappointed. It was as dry as a bone. Hardly any topping at all. It was just a large, thick piece of bread. Picture attached! I can’t even call it a pizza base as it tasted nothing like it! I only had four small pieces of pepperoni!! The fish was dry and mainly batter! The chips were dry which is unusual as they’re normally greasy from here. Wish I got a frozen pizza from the supermarket instead as it would of been 10 times better

Every time I have been here they give a excellent service also the amount of chips could feed a little army. Will be using more often from now on

We were stopping locally and used this chippy a couple of times, the fish and chips cooked here are some of the best we have ever eaten.

We buy food from here quite regularly. It’s consistently good: the chips are fabulous. Service is fast and friendly and the price is very reasonable. There’s a good range, too: from pizza through pies, to chicken, sausages and fish. I’d recommend this place.

Called here last Saturday evening after a day out. There was two young girls on the counter who couldn't raise a smile between them. Amongst our order was two children's meals which they forgot to give us and had to chase after us to tell us they had forgotten that part of the order, just reaching us before we drove away.

Watch what size portions you ask for. I asked for fish and chips and got the large size. Not only could I not eat it, it also cost a fair few bob. That said not a bad chipoil.

Fairly local to us so we have used fairly regularly. Have always had a good meal and they have a good choice on the menu.

Always huge portions, a really interesting and varied menu and quick friendly service. I eat here a lot and am surprised by some of the negative comments as I have never had less then a great meal. When I have friends to stay and we come here they always tell me how lucky I am to have this great local chippy. Not sure what I would do without the Wye Fry...have to learn to cook!

The fish was huge, the batter, crisp. The Chips were good and dry and it was terrific value. Service came with several smiles. Can't wait to go back!

When I went in I was the only customer I ordered two haddock and chips and a jumbo sausage I was told there would be a wait on the fish well 20mins went by then 30 the server kept asking about the fish to the guy cooking it I finally got it after waiting 35 mins when I got it home it was so over cooked it was unedible and went in the bin I think the chap manning the fry needs to learn to cook never again will I use this chip shop. Very poor.

Llamado para salchichas y patatas fritas entre otras cosas. Las salchichas eran anémicas, piedra fría y casi de color gris. No es un color marrón normal, no preparado.

Durante su estancia en Lydbrook nos trajo algunos pescado y patatas fritas en el Wye Fry y sentado por el río Wye para comer! La tienda estaba limpia y ordenada y la comida era fantástica!

My husband and I often go to this fish and chip shop in the summer months,we can take the meal down by the river and it is delicious. Would recommend and will return.

Lovely food and reasonable prices, five minutes down the road from being able to sit by the riverbank of the river Wye.

We visited the Wye Fry on a Wednesday. Sadly it is only open 4 days a week. We had a Cod, chips, jumbo sausages and curry sauce as well as drinks. It was nice and we would go again.

Great prompt service, good price,massive fish and best curry sauce.went in this evening at 6.40pm got served straight away very organised.will def go back again.

The OAPs fish and chips we had from here tonight was moreish. Flakey white cod and non greasy chips. Very good value for the money.As for the cleanliness of the shop was outstanding.friendly smiling staff and nothing to much trouble.certainly go back again well done keep the good work up

I have eaten from the Wye Fry twice now. Their prices are very reasonable, and their portions generous, however the quality of the food is unimpressive.

One word sums up The Wye Fry fantastic ! Shop bright and clean friendly staff fish and chips with not a trace of excess grease and all cooked to order my large fish was very large enough for me and my other half with a normal portion of chips mentioned to the lady behind the counter that our cat would be happy next thing I know gent who was cooking presented me with a piece of fish for the cat! hence the title of this review and another thing they do telephone orders

The Wye Fry is very welcoming! All of the staff are very friendly and cooperative. My order was ready in 10 minutes max. The staff are efficient workers. They have the best fish and chips in the village. I would definitely recommend The Wye Fry to anyone.

I have used this Fish and Chip/Pizza take away for some time. Because of certain allergies we have to be very precise on what food we want and the Manager/Staff are always really helpful. We usually have fish or some sort with chips and are always pleased. The size of the Haddock is enormous. I also like their battered mushrooms. On the one occasion we tried the Pizza it was really good. The shop always looks spotlessly clean as do the staff. If you are in the area don't miss out. It is a good village take away with a varied menu

Been two years since last review, sadly not much has changed.Called in on a Saturday evening around 6.00pm for 2 portions of pie and chips.Pies were fine, but the chips were barely warm and hard.Nowhere near as busy as it has been on previous visits, so perhaps the chips were refried from dinner time?Don't think I will bother again

we were staying over at Ferndale House B&B.Went to the Wye Fry (great name!) 1 person before me, and when I left there were 4 more waiting. So quite busy. Served by 2 young girls and 1 boss (?) My wife wanted cod masala. When asking what kind of pie is the best (because I've never ate it) the customer and the patron replied chicken and mushroom. Back at the B&B I unpacked the thickly packed chips and other things. The fries were quite mushy; but that is the English way I guess. They were not fried à la minute (like in Belgium - I am a chef) but we found them quite tasty (without! vinegar) The cod masala was delicious and plenty. The chicken mushroom pie, was good as well, though it was like vol au vent, so nothing new for me.All in all it was good and cheap.One thing though: another customer received ships with vinegar, which he did not wanted. The girl had to lay the chips and vinegar aside. When the customer left, the boss told her to unwrap the chips and put them on the pile of the other baked chips...! Would I return (when in the neighbourhood? Yeah, Would I make a detour? No.

We stayed nearby and popped up as we could not be bothered to cook one night. Really friendly people great food and more chips than we could eat. We will be visiting the area again with our youth group and this job will be on the itinerary.

This is a takeaway. They sell good fish and chips and a more extended menu of fast food to take out. It's good food, served at reasonable prices by cheerful staff.

Have had several takeaways sometimes good, sometimes very average.Cod can be very dry at times even when ordering large so that it's cooked to order

It's a shame that this is the only chippy in the village because it is not very good. Very expensive especially when the quality is taken in to account. Portions are small but prices do not match. Everything is always a bit under done- batter always soggy.Properly grabbing.

As I was staying a short distance away in a B & B and need to do some home work, a fish supper was ideal and being on my own did not want to go to local pub or restaurant. The fish was rather dry/over cooked, but the batter, chips and mushy peas were extremely nice. As the fish was the main part of meal I was extremely disappointed
