By far the worst restaurant I have been to in a long time. Out of the 10 meals we ordered at least 6 had to go back. Every meal was a disaster, poor quality and taste. They even tried to get us to pay for the meals we send back. Wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

We have been to this pub many times while on holiday and last night was a joke! We arrived early for our table and we were seating straight away in the bar. Ordered food within 10 minute of arriving. Our starters took 40 minutes to arrived, we then asked for the children’s food as they were getting hungry, another 40 minutes passed and the kids food finally arrived wrong which the waitress did fix. We then waited another hour for 2 of the adult main meals to arrived and another 30 minuts after that for the other 2 main adult meals. None of the family eat at the same time. This was not just our table food was arriving in dribs and brabs for every table. We asked for the managed a couple of time and he finally appeared when another table made a complaint. No explanation as to what was happening and why food was taking so long. A new waitress had started that night and the other waitress was having to go into the kitchen and cook, they were trying there best but were being shouted at all night with no clue what was happening in the kitchen. The bar was littered with glasses it was a shambles! Managed offered no apology and no discount on food or services the food was expensive for the services that we received we won’t be returning!

Such a lovely looking pub.. on arrival it took more than 30 mins to get a drink!!! I should have known then.. we ordered food at the same time as our drinks. After over an hour of waiting I started to hear other guests grumbling!! Our youngest child got her meal however my husband and myself left hungry.. we were looking forward to pie and mash but it never arrived.. we were offered nothing by way of apology.. we walked home in the dark and hungry.

Lovely pub and was nice to sit outside in the sun. Good range if real ales and also a good menu but unfortunately they don’t serve food on a Sunday evening. Friendly staff and would visit again if I were ever in the area

Just nothing was up to scratch, service poor, food very disappointing, didn’t taste home made at all and my salad was a bowl full of lettuce no dressing topped with a half of a cherry tomato.

Had a wonderful meal here while staying at the B&B three doors away, so nice to be able to walk there and back easily. The welcome was warm and friendly, the food was good. We had fish and chips and gammon, the portions were generous! Then Cheesecake for dessert, again really good. We stayed on to watch England in the Euros semi final, lovely atmosphere and the drinks were very reasonably priced.

Excellent food, lovely staff, reasonably priced and the dog was allowed in....bonus 😁 Good place to watch the local cricket matches opposite. Recommend booking.

We visited this pub/restaurant today hoping to repeat the lovely experience we enjoyed before. Unfortunately we were very disappointed . We ordered the Sunday lunch menu, two had beef, one had pork. I was suspicious when the meals arrived, absolutely swimming in gravy, and stacked a la ‘posh restaurant’. The vegetables arrived in a small dish, which we thought was for one person………but no, they were to be shared between the three of us! We asked for another portion politely. We were told by a member of the kitchen we could have extra but ‘ you will have to pay for them’ in a most impolite way. Ok we said, we’ll order them and pay for them. In the meantime two shared the small dish of green vegetables with their meals. They had almost finished their meals when my husband went to check where the veg had got to. I was nearing the end of my meal when they arrived, a few stalks of broccoli stems and French beans covered with three large ( steamed and unchopped ) cabbage leaves. Not really worth waiting for. The cauliflower cheese was stodgy and had obviously been pre-cooked and microwaved, the roasted potatoes were not crispy or tasty at all and the Yorkshire pudding was like cardboard. Plenty of beef, but tough, overcooked and sliced far too thickly. What a shame that they were so stingy with the cheapest items on the plate!

We prebooked meals for 13 people, so as not to have to wait too long with 5 children. It took 2 hours to complete this meal!! Incredibly slow service. The food is quite expensive, and not one of us had a good meal. One meal was returned with a hair in it😬 and others were overcooked, and the quality of the ingredients was poor ( even the pizzas and burgers were almost inedible)

We had meals here on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and they were all excellent. The steak was excellent Saturday and the Sunday roast was as good as any I have had. A lovely welcoming atmosphere in the pub and a great choice of drinks. Areas for watching sport if required and dog friendly areas.

Popped in without a reservation and was immediately shown to a table in the restaurant area by a very pleasant bartender. No sooner than we were seated waitress was there taking our drinks order ! My wife had fish and chips, and I ordered sirloin steak, and it was the best I've had in a long time...and the peppercorn sauce was better than that! The whole pub was spotlessly clean (my Mrs can spot dust and cobwebs from a mile away). Both of us would recommend The Woodman Inn in a heartbeat! Will we be back ? Yes !

Welcoming staff and a pub with a warm atmosphere. The menu at the pub is more extensive than that shown on the website, which is great as long as you didn't want the pork belly!!

Such a shame as we preordered and still not got it right didn't even have pudding as staff had all gone home slow service seriously have to look at some sort of staff training it just ruined what should of been a good reunion what food we had was ok

I tried phoning all Friday and sent and email Friday 27th to book a table for a party of 7 for lunch on Saturday, they didn't pick up the phone and to date I've not received an email not even saying they were fully booked which you weren't as we walked past on our way to the fountain inn we ate with them lovely meal and they answer the phone, we are locals we won't eat with you again,

Had a couple of meals here ,lunch one day ,and a sunday roast the other ,and certainly wasnt dissapointed with either.The roast beef and red wine gravy was delicous and the side vegetables were not only crisp, but flavoursome and plenty of them .my partner had the roast turkey and she too thought her food was excellent.if im back in that neck of the woods i wont hesitate to eat there again

On a visit to this pub with family yesterday, we were shocked and appalled by the unsettling reception we received. There was a rowdy group of men and women (who were obviously under the influence of alcohol/narcotics) sitting at the table, nearest the door/bar. As we walked to the bar, the party began loudly and aggressively jeering us for no reason. As we waited to be served, these individuals continued jeering, staring and mimicking both me and my female companion. Staff appeared oblivious or chose to ignore what was happening right under their noses. We felt extremely intimidated and threatened by this thuggish behaviour. I quietly and discreetly suggested to my companion that we left. The two men of the group (who were obviously eavesdropping) began loudly mimicking my voice and comments. As I left, I informed the group that we were leaving owing to the discomfort that their behaviour had caused. Their response was a loud and F-bomb laden tirade of verbal abuse. Again, there was no intervention by staff to this yobbish. obnoxious and abusive behaviour, which could be heard even when we had exited the premises. I am just thankful that the rest of my family, including my children were not present at the bar to witness this disgraceful (and frankly confusing) incident that felt like playground bullying. I will not be returning and will spread the word that the Woodsman is not the place to visit if you’re looking for a family-orientated pub, where you feel safe and respected.

Although they offered some gluten free alternatives with pizza or burgers on gf products there was nothing else gluten free. So I ended up just eating chips . Very very disappointed ☹️ I won't be going back.

This place is a TARDIS. Bar, restaurant, snug, patio, marquee and then beer garden. Very nice place. Food is brilliant. Could only eat deserts as still too full after main. They must have spent lots here but prices are not extortionate. Good choice on menu.

This place never fails to produce great customer service and excellent food, if you are in the area you should definitely take the time to visit.

Called in on the off chance for Sunday Lunch. Food was lovely, presented well and tasty ( and I am a fussy eater). We sat inside and it was lovely and cool as it is a hot day. Staff were polite. Cutlery nice and clean. Glasses clean. I had water also from the water resevoir placed by the entrance . Used the toilet facilities I found to be clean.

We visited Parkend for a long weekend and the Woodman was just around the corner. What a great pub ! All the staff we met could not have been more helpful. The pub is clean, the beer was spot on and the food was just right ! We had a Sunday roast which I can honestly say is the best roast I’ve had in a pub for many years - absolutely awesome. I’d give this place 6 stars for that meal :-) Parkend is worth a visit if you like walking, cycling, steam trains or just a very chilled place with nice people, we only met friendly people on our trip - very refreshing ! Thanks to the Woodman for a couple of great meals, great service and fine beer ! Gold star to the chef/s ! Thanks - we’ll recommend to friends and will aim to come back !

This was our second visit here within 6 weeks, first visit as a group of 5 and this visit as a couple. Both visits were exceptional, fantastic food and excellent friendly service. Can't wait to visit again

Booked a table for four in the restaurant but were seated in bar where a band was playing. It was too loud to hear each other speaking and so had to ask to be moved. Strangely there were free tables in the restaurant??? We then had to ask for someone to take our order as no one came. The waitress was friendly and kind but was not well informed about drinks or food. We tried to order our meals but were then told that two meals were not available. The food was very average for the price. I ordered a veggie option but it wasn't available and the alternative was not nice at all. I should have sent it back but at this point we were all starving and just wanted to eat.

Have to say got nothing good to write and feel for the staff. We booked three weeks before turned up on the night to be told only had burger and pizza. We wernt happy but made the best of a bad situation my friend ordered a burger me just cheesy chips. We waited for our food to be told ten minutes later sorry no burgers. We have since posted on there Facebook page to have it deleted. Wont be returning.

Absolutely terrible , waited 1.5 hrs for food that we preordered months ago , one of our party was brought out a dish which she hadn’t ordered , but because they didn’t have what she did order the chef decided to send out something else , without even asking , food was cold , peppercorn sauce was brought out around 10 minutes after the steaks , all around terrible , I feel sorry for the waitresses as you can see their embarrassment , management needs to get a grip or step aside and let someone else step up , personally I will never set foot in this place again

Arrived early for a Valentine's meal. We did say we weren't in a hurry but 45 mins later we still hadn't ordered. 30 minutes later we asked where was our garlic bread starter and the waitress said she they only had one chef so she would get him to do it now. The waitress asked if we would like to see the manager and when she came all she would say is "its not my fault".An hour after ordering our main had not arrived so we were the third table to leave without eating. The poor waitresses were doing their best but have had no training. Management here is attricious. Eventually after pausing at the bar to pay for what we did have we left to a tirade of abuse and agression from the 'manager' who told us to get out and a woman clad in chef's whites who had appeared and told us never to come back.What a sad and pathetic example of the hospitality industry. The people running this establishment have no concept of customer service and should seek employment in another industry. At 74 years of age and a lifetime in the hospitality industry this was shameful, disgusting and I cannot term it strong enough. Gordon Ramsey you need to get here quick.

Very expensive. Not an enjoyable lunch, a drink got spiilt on the floor while we were eating, out came the bucket and mop, smelling of floor cleaner we couldn't continue to eat our food. There was a young boy running around the restaurant with a broom and kept hitting our feet with it and nobody asked him to stop!! Very disruptive lunch. We used to visit very regularly we won't be coming back.

Lovely pub, beautifly decorated, the young table waiting staff were great. However, truly awful meal. Served Sat 12/2/22. Table for 6. Took over 15 mins for drink order at table to be served, finally served after getting up after 12 mins to chase. Table ordered 6 steaks, at £23 each, 5 medium, one well done. When food arrived, two were blue, so very well undercooked. The other four were very rare and tough and no sign of a well done at all. Extras ordered took another 10 minutes to arrive, and one meal was missing components. However, by this time we were hungry and well fed up so just tucked in. One party member managed to get one blue steak taken back, but steak returned well over well done despite asking again for mediun. After complaining we did get 10% off the bill and flatly refused to pay for the returnd steak (uneaten, it was so bad). Despite living very local and supportive of local business we will not return. Very obvious that kitchen did not have somone who could cook steak. Management uncaring and dismissive. Do not bother eating here unless you like expensive food served with no care or attention to detail. Wetherspoons serve better, and more tender steak.

Mixed grill for hubby & me, burger meal & 10 hour cooked belly pork for our friends; each plate a substantial meal, but more importantly, absolutely delicious.Reassuring to see locally sourced Hereford beef, Gloucester old spot pork & even local spirits available.This was an unplanned visit but will definitely return.

Sunday lunch 4 adults, 1 child! Over priced, all 4 adult meals came up cold they did take them back and we were given fresh back but it's wasn't steaming hot! Not enough veg. Then over charged us on the bill as the prices on the menu aren't current!

I chose the quiche and asked for salad instead of chips or Boiled potatoes, I said maybe the salad could include some coleslaw. My Quiche arrived with a tiny side salad of leaves and a few cherry tomatoes I was very disappointed at the pathetic excuse for a saladIt's not unreasonable to expect some cucumber or maybe some pepper in a salad is it? . The coleslaw Came as a side costing £3.50. When I cut into the quiche it was runny in the middle and the egg mixture oozed over my plate. I spoke politely to the server who took it back to the kitchen where it was presumably thrown back in the oven for a few minutes and then put back on the same plate and returned to me with some boiled potatoes which I didn't ask for or want. The middle of the quiche was still runny so in the end I ate round the sides and scoffed the pathetic excuse for a salad.II spoke politely with a member of management who appeared to care that I was unhappy and paid good lip service to my complaint. She said she fully understood and that she would adjust the bill. I paid the bill , left the pub then realised I had been charged £9 for a starter, My husband went back into the pub and spoke with the same manager , the 9 pounds was for the quiche. The manager opened a jar and gave Him 4 pounds as an adjustment to the bill.Hows that for awful, insultingl customer service and couldn't give a damn attitude.

We booked the restaurant for a New years eve meal for eight, due to the time of year we were delighted that they could accommodate that number and they asked for a £10 deposit to secure the table. This was not described as a non refundable deposit. Unfortunately myself and two sons have tested positive for Covid which has led to us cancelling our holiday in the area. This in itself is disappointing as we have missed out on a family get together, more disappointing is the restaurants refusal to refund the deposit and a complete lack of empathy as they had at least 4 days to open the table up to other potential diners. We would have been travelling from Liverpool so a credit note is hardly a refund. While we completely understand the reason for accepting deposits, as it covers for no shows or people multi booking, it isn't free money. We also booked the Fountains Inn on 2nd January which is the other pub in the village and when we explained the reason for cancellation it was met with empathy and concern for our health. If there are positive changes, I will update this review

Book a meal for an 80th birthday was very disappointed when the meals came out , the fish meal came with out the bread which we had to ask for and to be told it wasn’t included but was stated on the menu , no lardons and cabbage with the beef again asked and only had the lardons also no trimming with the turkey dinner, stuffing pigs in blanket. Also the rice pudding needed extra cooking as the rice was still hard, other than that was ok.

We arrived at 4.30 the pub is nice and decorated lovely for Xmas. We were the only people seated in the restaurant area so our order was taken swiftly. We ordered the southern style chicken burger. When the food was brought out the chicken and bun was burnt black and the chips tasted burnt/like the oven. We complained to the waitress so then the manager came over and said that it was awful that we were served this and proceeded to take the untouched plates away, we assumed they would be cooking us a replacement meal but they just took ten mins to change the bun. I expressed my disappointment as we couldn’t finish the meal as the rest of it was still burnt. We were not apologised to and we couldn’t wait to get out of there. Overall a really disappointing dining experience.

So had a short wait before The bread was arrived and only the lardons, no cabbage. Desserts were ok, however the rice pudding was still very firm and undercooked and The chocolate sauce on the profiteroles was coldThe food was acceptable, but disappointed by the attention to detail as mentioned.Service was good, they were pleasant & polite

Decided on booking a meal here as staying at Whitemead Forrest Park. Didn’t appear particularly busy. Very slow service. Had to ask for cutlery, waited for beer which was stood under tap partly filled for ages. Food lovely. Waited ages again for bill. Hard work for an evening out.

What a great find - comfortable large pub, with beautiful extension at the back. Staff were friendly and a menu to suit us all (Grandparents, Parents and Grandchildren).

On arrival hadn't got our booking in the diary even though we had email proof of booking so not a great start but we were seated anyway not a huge choice on the menu all chose something from the special board food was tasty and hot service was fine

good food, good beer. good service...what else do you need! Next time we are in the area we will be back

Nothing was to much trouble the food was lovely and the staff went above and beyond to engage with there guests.

Revisited the area after leaving Wales 16 years ago. The place has changed beyond recognition. Absolutely stunning, beautiful food, great service

Managed to fit us in after a long walk, Friendly welcome and brilliant service. The food was hot and tasty and reasonable priced. Will definitely pay another visit when next in the area.

Wednesday evening table for 3 looking forward to an enjoyable evening with a close friend who lived locally and wanted to experience the refurbished Woodman Inn.We arrived on a chilly evening to a warm and inviting environment. We were taken on a march through cold passages to our table in what can only be described as a unheated greenhouse. The menu choices were very limited however the food was acceptable. We finished the meal and waited at least 20 minutes before our plates were removed. Then waited further before being offered a sweet menu. We decided to leave as the ladies were finding the cold restaurant unbearable. We went to the bar area to settle the bill only to notice a group of men drinking and playing cards in the warm where other tables appeared available for eating.Not an experience we would want to repeat

Sign up road said pub was welcoming. Went there with wife as it was her birthday. After waiting at the bar for several minutes to be told to leave bar as it was table service only. They then brought drink to the table outside. Asked about having food was told they were had 65 booked for door and could not cater for the two of us even though the pub was very quiet at the time. Pub was better under previous ownership as I have been there in the past with family and as a child playing cricket on the village Green.

Went to The wood man last week with my family. Lovely food and beautiful surroundings . Only negative was the blonde lady collecting our plates lent right over us and smelt very strongly of cigarette smoke. It was very off putting to the point we didn't have dessert
