We thought this place was fantastic. If you want something a bit different then this is what you want..If you are picky then perhaps give this a miss. No real menu or prices ( turned out to be really reasonable ) sort like eating in a strangers living room and you share what they have..Totally loved it..

On entering the bakery it is small but packed with pleanty of choice. You won’t be disappointed. There is pleanty of choice of cakes and sweet treats. The pasty’s had plenty of filling and lots of flavour. A great place to visit if you are in the area. They had a meal deal for £7 you got a drink, medium pasty and a cake.

Popped in for ice creams and to our delight spotted GF cones. No big deal if you do not have Coeliac’s Disease, but if you do, so many everyday treats and ordinary foods are not available to you. Even more impressed when the scoop was washed before serving us. Simple things these but it made a huge difference to us and I am very happy to give top marks to the Mermaid for being aware and considerate. We will return.

Walked in today to be told that as of today Sunday October 28th 2018 they are shutting for a stated refurbishment but am suspicious as the staff where only told this last Wednesday , apparently it was the first they knew about it & also where all losing there jobs as of today , Only 5 day notice for them & only a day for us as a usual party of 4 . This is a great shame as it was such a friendly place with wonderful staff & Super food . Pity no advanced warning so now have to find another venue or turn the gas back on our cooker after all these years . Many extremely angry & sad customers . Thanks to all the wonderful meals shall miss you all & good luck for your future jobs .

Lovely tasty cream tea. Scone was one of tastiest I had ever had. Husband had bacon and brie sandwich that he also really enjoyed.

Enjoyed the friendly service and real great meal. We returned a few weeks ago and sadly the problems started with the booking and we asked about Gluten Free options, in the email it wasn't a problem but when we arrived everything on the menu could have gluten including, rice, cornflour products and literally everything. We asked for tap water that never came Food was like last time good, sadly, one of us couldn't eat anything, but the service was very poor. As good as the food is it will only be a delivery option from now on.

We went for a spa and afternoon tea. The spa is lovely, it has everything you need. The afternoon tea is delicious, however for those that have been recently you may be disappointed with the changes. You now only get one scone and you don't get the mini fish and chips! It was still a good portion but quite a change from when I last visited in Jan.

A lovely, possibly Georgian , pub in a quaint village, well worth the visit with a homely welcoming ambience, excellent Sunday lunch(sampled by us!) and above all friendly attentive staff for whom nothing was too much trouble. Regrettably the exception today as opposed to the rule! A bonus on our visit, Sunday 9th.,was live music, by a hugely talented local group, The Hoddle who performed a set of blues and Country & Western standards to their inimitable interpretation. Music to mellow out by! We understand this takes place monthly so roll up and book your Sunday lunch now !!
