Location, staff and hotel absolutely great, however after a long day on the road I decided to stay for the meal in the hotel restaurant. My vegetarian option was pricey, which I accepted, what I don't accept it's this bad habit of UK restaurant trying to sneak service charge on your bill without telling you so. So obviously I have paid and left looking at my bill later on with disappointment. This should be voluntary not compulsory and I don't agree to add the charge without customers knowledge, because many of us don't even look at receipt afterwards. I am sure I'll be back in this hotel in a couple of months time, but I will not use the hotel restaurant ever again.

It was quite an enjoyable stay! Superior rooms are very spacious with a balcony, and the air-conditioned rooms were perfect. The staff were so courteous! Swimming pool, gym, and spa available. Only downside: the spa is in a separate building (a bit of a walk in your robe!). 😊 #HotelStay #LuxuryTravel #VacationMode #SpaDay #TravelGoals

Can't say anything about the rooms as we haven't stayed but the spa is great! - the treatments and sauna my favourite. Food is good and the service is amazing, so close to the coast and with the members discount I consider this one of my locals to pop in for a pint in the sun. Plenty of room to park and they have croquet set up on the large lawn to use as you wish. My wife and I along with family members use the Cornwall Hotel and Spa as regularly as we can.

We stayed in a 2 bedroomed lodge, which was OK, although it had only small single cubicle showers with fixed head spray unit in each bathroom, not ideal for ladies who don't want to get wet hair every day, one also had a full sized bath. The lodges are located next to a busy road and you will hear it all day and into the early hours if you have the patio door or windows open, unfortunately. The parking for the lodges is very tight in places, be aware that you may get your car dented if you have inconsiderate neighbours, we were lucky. All in all though the lodges are nice for a few days stay and well equipped. The photos of the pool are very deceiving, it is quite small and partly sectioned off for lane swimming, so only half of the pool is available for free swimming/floating, etc, and if there are 10 people in the pool it is very full. It is small. The weather was wonderful while we were at the hotel, but they did not open the bi-folding doors anytime we were in the pool, and we went in every day for at least 2 hours, not sure if the doors are broken? It would have been lovely to have them open, as I am sure this would have made the area feel more spacious. Be aware that there is only one privacy cubicle in the changing rooms, the rest is all communal, not ideal in 2025, and I had to resort to using the toilet to get dried and changed in, as I do not feel comfortable de-robing in public, and because the privacy cubicle was occupied by a very selfish lady who decided to use it to read a book in, with the door unlocked, whilst naked! We had breakfast one morning, it was OK. The staff at the hotel are lovely and very hard working. We would not stay here again due to the changing facilities (personal choice) and the proximity to the busy road, but it would suit a short stay.

The Cornwall is a wonder Alpine style hotel with family chalets in the beautiful Cornish hills between St. Austell & Mevagissey. Huge mature trees, beautiful grounds with balcony’s over looking the large woods. Excellent breakfast, lunch and dining equally good and a lovely more intimate bar. The staff are really exceptionally welcoming, helpful, polite, fun and issue is too small. One perfect reason for visiting: they love dogs!! Their large estate is perfect for dog walks

Around 2am a fan on the main building woke us up and continued for the rest of the night. I booked a superior double room, it had 2 single beds pushed together and overlooked the bins in the staff car park. The ‘Spa’ was full of kids playing loudly and splashing in the pool, not a relaxing environment. The food was nice and cream tea was delicious. Overall it was really disappointing, I wouldn’t return and wouldn’t recommend to others.

Grubby rooms and poor customer service - avoid. We were hugely disappointed with this hotel. We stayed here two years ago on our honeymoon and our “superior” room was in poor condition with brown stains around the radiation and splashed up the walls and over the ceiling. The ceiling also had pencil markings from what I assume was electrical work. However, when we complained at that time we were offered a free afternoon tea which we thought was a good resolution. For our anniversary this year we booked another superior room. To our surprise we were in the same room, and over the past two years nothing had been done to resolve the decorative issues. Even the pencil markings were still there. We asked to move rooms but they had none available. We were informed that they are in the process of refurbishing rooms, but they haven’t got to this one yet. We made another complaint at the hotel and the manager was unavailable but called a few days later to discuss. We were told he would check with the general manager and get back to us. We had to follow up again as they didn’t return our call and we were ultimately told they thought it was fair. We did not use the pool facilities, but another guest informed us there had been an ant problem for at least two weeks with no resolution. Further, the room is listed as dogs allowed. There is an additional charge and you must book a superior room. On booking, there is no mention that dogs are not allowed on furniture. When you arrive, there is a note to explain dogs are not allowed on the furniture. This is completely fine; however, it should be noted before booking.

This spa day was completely made by Megan. She gave me a back, shoulder and neck massage and it was honestly the best massage I’ve ever had. She was incredible. It was such a relaxing experience - she took me through everything, put me at ease and even after the massage spoke me through tight areas, knots and how to maintain the help that the massage has given me in the coming days. The rest of the girls at the spa were great too - provided my mum and I an alternative to the alcoholic option which was a lovely smoothie. Just wanted to say thank you so much for today!

The worst Afternoon Tea experience ever and trying to discuss this with any member of staff hits a brick wall. The tea provided didn't match the description on the website or the menu. The content was miniscule, dried up finger sandwiches and a laughable selection of cakes the size of a thimble. Staff were too busy to actually serve in the tea room apparently.

Fantastic Stay at The Cornwall Hotel & Spa! Our stay at The Cornwall Hotel & Spa was exceptional from start to finish. The beautiful setting, luxurious spa, and delicious food made it the perfect getaway. A special shout-out to Alfie, the barman, who went above and beyond—not just with his amazing cocktails but also with his incredible way with children. Our little one had hours of fun with him, asking endless questions, which he answered with patience and enthusiasm. He truly made our stay extra special! We booked a one-night spa break on Feb 12th, expecting a relaxing stay—unfortunately, it was anything but. Our suite was filthy: hairs in the bed, sink, and bath, black mould on the shower curtain, and thick dust everywhere. Reception offered us a downgrade or a re-clean, and we reluctantly took the downgrade—without any refund for the price difference. The new room wasn’t much better: broken heating, a slanted bed, a faulty fridge, no bedside plugs, and a bath that wouldn’t drain. For a so-called luxury hotel, basic amenities were shockingly neglected. The only highlight was the spa—excellent massages and a beautiful pool with garden views. The restaurant, however, was a complete disaster. Afternoon tea took over an hour to arrive, and my partner’s severe tomato allergy was ignored, with two of three sandwiches containing tomato. Dinner dragged on for three hours due to slow service, and the food was wildly inconsistent—some decent starters, but overcooked steak and a sickly rich braised beef. Breakfast was the final insult: canned fruit, stale pastries, burnt coffee (extra charge!), and a disgusting Eggs Royale with salmon that wasn’t fresh. Customer service was abysmal, with staff who were inattentive, untrained, and visibly uninterested. The hotel grounds and spa were beautiful, but everything else was unacceptable. We left more stressed than when we arrived. Would not recommend and won’t be returning.

Stayed 10 nights in a woodland 2 bed lodge Cons - Service a big let down! - Staff member verbally abused me in the spa when I asked for an extra towel for my daughter with additional needs. We stayed 9 nights and this was our 7th day in the spa and every other time, the staff were really friendly and one previously said "take as many towels as you need" so I was shocked that I was interrupted and spoken to in such an aggressive way. If she'd explained nicely, that would have been one thing but there is no excuse for abusing customers just for kicks! - This staff member sarcastically told me to go back to my lodge and get a towel if I wanted one! There was a clear air of people in the lodges are second class citizens. - We had actually come to the spa because our lodge, which was supposed to be serviced on day 4 was forgotten so someone was servicing it while we were at the spa. All the towels at the lodge were dirty! Nicola can verify this as she organized the service. - And to add insult to injury, I saw others walk in with two towels each as I was trying to get my children dry. - I got Tia the managers details from her but the whole experience just left us so upset as a family, there's no point as we won't be back. - Our breakfast wasn't included so we booked to try it one day. As soon as you ask for a coffee, you are asked to tap your card to pay the 2.50 extra immediately. Then you pay separately for the breakfast as you leave - why not just settle the bill as you leave like in any other restaurant? - Payment is asked up front for everything which screams cash flow issues. You don't feel looked after. You pay before you even know what the service or food is like. - Had the Sunday roast and it was luke warm. All the food was really underwhelming. - Lodge itself was fine but not worth the price we paid. Scuffs on the walls. Black mould on the tiles. Grouting needs deep cleaning. Stains on the back of curtains etc. It's clear there is no maintenance happening (maybe because of cash flow issues). I could have gotten over most of these things if it wasn't for the horrible experience in the spa. Save yourself the experience we had and book elsewhere! Pros - Hot tub lovely and relaxing (and disinfected daily) - Nice and quiet at night - Swimming pool and playground enjoyable for kids - Well located for day trips

We had an unplanned overnight here when my car broke down leaving the Eden project. We walked to the hotel from the garage in Holmbush and it took would an hour. Footpaths available all the way. Picked up some swimsuits in town so we could enjoy the spa and de-stress. The pool is gorgeous and the steam room and sauna are great. Our bed was comfortable and having a balcony was very enjoyable (but would have been even better if the weather cooperated!) Breakfast was delicious in the morning. We both had the eggs benedict. The only minor complaint would be that the TV is very small for the distance it is from the bed. But in the lovely setting, TV isn't really the most important thing.

Hotel is in a lovely location, very peaceful, feels like you are in the middle of nowhere. If you want to venture out, i visited Charlestown which was a really lovely little harbour and the Eden project, both local. All of the staff i encountered from check in to the restaurant/bar and spa all were welcoming and very friendly. I found the food to be really yummy! I had breakfast both days, dinner one evening and lunch in the bar and all 3 meals were delicious and well presented. Spa area really nice. I did have a last minute treatment which was really good and well explained by the staff. My only criticism with the pool area/jacuzzi is the water is too cold..needs to be warmer. But some lovely "me time". I have one criticism and unfortunately it was the rooms. The bed in my opinion was incredibly uncomfortable, i barely slept. The rooms are dated with many stains on the carpets, curtains, walls. My biggest issue was the level of mould on the back of the curtains (not just 1 or 2 small dots but they were covered in mould). This amount in room 111 is a health hazard and should be cleaned or replaced. The decor (wallpaper/pictures etc) however was very nice and i liked the fact tea/coffee biscuits were available in the room. I marked you 2 stars down on the room because of the level of mould. Sorry!

Disappointed would sum it up, and hearing from other guests it's quite a general criticism by all. It would seem that the photos shown on its advertising are those taken at the hotel's completion 14 years ago. The place is looking tired and in need of some investment. The hotel facilities cannot cope with the number of guests that it houses in the rooms, couldn't get into the restaurant, wait ages at the bar, forever for room service, which you have to go down to the bar to order and pay for. Not a 4 star hotel. Really expected, hoped for and certainly paid for more. And the constant noise from the kitchen extractor fan that can be heard from all of the rooms ruins the enjoyment of sitting on the rotting and unswept balconies. Breakfast was lovely though once it arrived 40 minutes after ordering 😊

Horrible service, horrible staff and manager. dated rooms and didn't try the restaurant as I didn't want to risk it after the initial experience. Booked a room for two nights and due to an emergency rang the hotel to cancel the first night. I was told by reception that it's all sorted. Get there on the day for them to say I have to pay both nights. As I was coming from London I didn't want to bother with the hassle of canceling my card and getting a new place so just ended up paying. Lucky it was work card for me as it was on a business trip. Laura or Lauren can't recall her name exactly, the manager, I think, as she didn't come across like a manager. as useful as a chocolate fireplace. She said I was lying and there is no way of veryfing what I am saying, so she will take the receptions side. they were lucky I was not bothered with the hassel, but stay away from these lil cow boys 😂. Asked the reception who was on duty the day before, the person I spoke to. At first she refused to tell me than she said Catherine. Not sure if that's true but yeah 😂😂 Tip for people booking online make sure you have a low limit on the card.

I don’t usually leave reviews but was so upset by the way we were treated at The Cornwall, that I feel I have to leave this review. This is the email I sent with no response so I’ll post it here instead: I am unfortunately emailing to bring to your attention the disappointing experience I, and my family, had at The Cornwall Hotel and Spa today. Me and my partner, Sam, are getting married in 2025 at the Eden Project. We were looking at somewhere locally for ourselves and our guests to stay on our wedding night and the night before. My parents visited The Cornwall recently and spoke to a very helpful lady called Chelsea on reception, who showed them around and made them feel very welcome. They recommended us to come and see for ourselves as they believed The Cornwall would be a perfect hotel for us to stay for our wedding. I had liaised recently via email with Jenny, Marketing Manager and had arranged to be shown around after an afternoon tea at The Cornwall today, 24/03/24, at 14:00. We arrived at that time and spoke to the woman on reception who we explained the above to. She told us to go and have the afternoon tea and someone should be able to show us around after. We walked into the afternoon tea hall and were met with… no one! We waited by the ‘Please wait here to be seated’ sign, but no one came. I walked to the bar and I asked the waitress if we had a set table to sit at. She abruptly told us to sit at the free table in the dining hall and carried on unloading the dishwasher. We sat down, confused at her demeanour, and she came over later to take our order. Her general attitude was pretty rude throughout the service, she made us feel very unwelcome. We finished the food and I went to pay the bill. We were charged the full price which I queried, as we were told that locals got a discount on the afternoon teas. My bill was rectified and we headed to the reception to be shown around. I spoke to a different receptionist this time and she said she was aware of our desire to view the rooms/amenities, but that no one was available to show us around. She also said if we wanted to wait for a few hours until 5pm, then a porter would be able to show us around. I wouldn’t normally have an issue as I understand how busy hospitality can get, but on a quiet Sunday where not even the first car park was filled, I was surprised that even after all the forewarning we gave, that no one was prepared to give us a quick look around. We were planning on booking a room not only for ourselves, but for at least 15 of our wedding guests. We have family travelling down for our wedding day, and if today had gone well, we were prepared to advise all of our other guests to stay with you also, so it may have been more. We will definitely NOT be staying with The Cornwall after today’s disrespect, and hope our experience offers some insight as to where your venue can improve its service. We are so disappointed with the service we received from a local hotel.

I would love to be able to give our stay more than overall 3 star, however we were quite let down with the service we experienced in our evening, as well as the following morning. All went well upon checking in, chucking our things in our room and briefly using the spa facilities before we enjoyed the ‘happy hour’ between 5-6pm at the hotel bar. We had our dinner reservation booked for 7:15, but unfortunately the service was very slow and we became very frustrated. We are not ones to complain usually but all tables around us were also complaining so really brought down the ambience. It took a while to even get a drink served and then ordering just our starters and main. The food was really nice once it had been served but we almost didn’t enjoy all 3 courses because it took a long time to receive each one. The table behind us waiting 45-50 minutes to receive their main. The next morning we had someone painting literally around our door frame which we felt our privacy had been slightly disrupted. We felt like this could have been done after we checked out before new guests could have checked in. The breakfast ‘included’ was somewhat nice however I did find some of the fruit and breads that were described on the menu as ‘fresh’ were not, and were dry and stale so skipped over. I would somewhat recommend elements to others but I wasn’t blown away by the stay and wouldn’t stay again.

So sad if it’s true they are closing this St Ives branch of their 3 stores. Sad if the town is making business too expensive to run. Thankfully they do delivery, adds about £1 per pasty. Their vegan pasty has the biggest variety of vegetables inside. I love buying few to take home and freeze each May when the St Ives Food Festival is on. St Ives has the biggest selection of pasty shops with such variety of fillings and pastries, both savoury and dessert. By the time you eat from stalls on the beach of the food festival, have a fruit and custard pasty or amazing cakes for breakfast and a savoury pasty or eat out at fantastic fish restaurants for dinner, just accept you will come home several pounds heavier. Next year i had planned to ask Pengs to have several vegan pasties frozen for me take home. At least i hope they return to St Ives with a stall on the beach for the next May festival. In fact i wish all the pasty shops would get together to have tasting trays of their pasties, on the one stall on the beach festival. It’s just impossible to get thru them all in 3 days. And Pengs will be most missed.
