Here’s your review: Best arrive with an open mind and go with the flow. The wine selection and overall experience here is on another level. Your palate will be absolutely obliterated with every mouthful, as each dish perfectly complements the last. This place excels by getting the little things right. You’ll experience a taste sensation with every bite, from the buttery sourdough bread to the evening’s special. The service is personal and bohemian.

We went here after some friends went in July and raved about their meal, and we were not disappointed - the best food and wine we've had in Meva or anywhere nearby. We were told that all the fish and seafood was locally caught and the menu changes daily depending on what is landed. We couldn't decide on what we wanted as we wanted everything, so the chef said he would just bring us dishes until we said we were full! This was an excellent decision - everything was sparklingly fresh, I don't know if I'll ever be able to go back to eating fish that isn't that fresh and well-cooked again as the difference in taste and texture is extraordinary. I thought the prices were keen, but after we tried the food I think this must be the best value restaurant in Cornwall - this quality would be at least double the price anywhere else. The house recommended two adventurous wines - a faintly fizzy and citrussy vinho verde as an aperitif to go along with the fresh sourdough, butter, corn nuts and olives to start. For the mains my husband wanted red but were stumped as we were having mostly fish - the sommelier suggested a bottle of Roger Sabon Le Sabounet NV, which she described as a lighter fresher non-vintage chateauneuf that was a great choice and paired brilliantly with the seafood. This is definitely a restaurant not a pub and the space is very small so make sure you book ahead - definitely not one for walk-ins, and their opening hours are a bit eccentric so check their instagram before booking. Highly, highly, highly recommend.

Chris and Helen are a lovely couple who serve great wine and great food. My partner and I live in Mevagissey and have had many good experiences here. The pub is very unique and a great place to relax and to eat great home cooked, fresh local produce, which is always cooked to a very high standard. We’ve tried the roast beef several times (although this is only served in the winter/autumn) and the freshly made sourdough pizzas. I’d recommend following their instagram page and potentially ringing in advance to see what’s on the menu at any particular point so as to avoid disappointment. They are also a wine merchant so if you want to purchase some high quality wine at a very reasonable price to take away, I’d highly recommend buying a bottle from here. I especially like their selection of great quality red wines, which are mainly sourced from Portugal, Italy and Spain. We have taken our parents there and our parents also enjoyed the food and the service on both occasions. If you want a guaranteed table, pre-book in advance. You may not get a table if you walk in off the street as this pub is very popular!

On entering the pub it looked warm, cosy and welcoming….. we were excited to try some wine from the vast selection, filling the walls. As soon as we sat down we were greeted by the rudest woman, I asked for a wine that resembled a blush, the response was ‘ I have no idea what you are talking about I have stacks of qualifications and I’ve never heard of it’. I felt so silly, so I stuck with one wine as dare to ask for anything else. These comments continued…. My friend asked if their cellar had ever flooded her comment was ‘another boring question that everyone asks!’ I have honestly never experienced such rudeness! The food was nice, but 1 hour 45 mins to get our roast dinner and a bit disappointed not to have roast potatoes, only new potatoes. with only one other table before. We paid over £200 between 4 of us for the most awful service ever and delay. I could go on I with her comments throughout, my advice to her would be use your knowledge and sell more wine rather than be so snobbish and make people feel silly! So disappointing.

This was a wonderful dining experience in this hidden gem of a pub/bakery/restaurant in Mevagissey. The menu was perfect and the service excellent. The chef fed us with selected items from the starter menu and his own freshly baked bread. The main courses were superb, the freshly caught Brill was particularly delicious. The accompanying wine, beers and cider were very good too. We fully recommend this place if you want a bespoke and artisan dining experience. The building is most historic too, originally The Anchor & Hope it became The Kings Arms in the C19th. One of Mevagissey’s best kept secrets . . . till now! 😅✌🏼⚓️

We can’t rate you high enough! Last night was our third visit to the Kings Arms over the last 2 weeks. Kris & Helen always make us feel very welcome and Kris cooks such delicious food! We always enjoy the delicious home baked bread and charcuterie to start, followed by whatever Kris has chosen to cook that day. We enjoyed, Cote de Bouef, lobster, lamb and lobster ravioli for mains, all were cooked to perfection and delicious. Our favourite dessert was the homemade French meringues with strawberries and cream, now known as Kris’s clouds! The cherry and almond tarts were also amazing! They offer a great range of wines and other drinks too. The atmosphere is very relaxed and laid back, which is great. Highly recommended and can’t wait to visit again! Thank you both for having us x

Who are these reviewers who slate Kris & Helen ? They are a hardworking charismatic couple who have overcome COVID and other hurdles but still offer the best , seasonal food and exceptional wine in their own home , the Kings Arms. We held our wedding reception here and would not have considered anywhere else … nowhere in the area could match their personal service, attention to detail, menus which were devised solely for us and wines to accompany the food choices perfectly . A unique and perfect place which we are so lucky to call our local . We have taken family and friends who have been bowled over by this place … it’s fantastic and we love everything about it .

A very special, wonderful, pub in the heart of the Mevagissey community. Proud to call this my ‘local’. Kris and Helen serve up locally sourced food. From cote de boeuf and lobster, to wild mushroom raviolis and ox cheek stew. All paired with affordable outstanding wines and beers. If you’re looking for a formulaic experience with laminated menus, London Pride and a bottle of Whispering Angel, then there are loads of other places to go and have that ‘experience’ But if you want to spend time in a place that prides itself on serving what’s fresh in (so menus are in the chef’s head) and keen to share their knowledge and love of surprising wines in a setting that is elegant yet informal then The Kings is worth a visit.

Running out of ideas of what to buy parents for birthday's/father's day etc, hit upon the idea of getting a 3 course meal and wine delivered (a godsend in lockdown). I had heard many good things about the King's Arms and their brilliant food, so it seemed natural to contact them. From the start, I received exceptional customer service. Helen was brilliant in dealing with my long distance request to supply my parent's with a fabulous meal (they only live a couple of miles away from the pub). Even though the team were busy prepping/cooking/delivering/selling takeway food they took the time to really help my parent's have a very special weekend. I was jealous when I heard about how tasty, and innovative the food was and I will definitely be visiting as soon as I can. It takes guts to turn around your business in a crisis and, from what I can see, The King's Arms are doing it in style. Once this pandemic is over I hope that everyone remembers what their 'local' did for them (be it a pub, cafe, restaurant, bakery etc) and repay that by remaining loyal customers long into the future. Big, corporate food outlets (wouldn't dignify them by calling them restaurants) don't care about you but your local does and will continue to do so. I only wish I lived local to the King's Arms xxx

The King's Arms will not be to everyone's taste. A small carefully thought out menu of fresh local ingredients. No Chips, No fried onion rings or frozen peas. No sticky laminated plastic menus that haven't changed in years...can this really be a pub menu in the UK? Last Friday night I ate some of the loveliest fresh pasta I have eaten anywhere. As someone who loves cooking and travels the world for food I often fantasise about giving up my job and running a small place where people who love just good high quality food could come to eat whatever I would cook for them. I'm definitely not one for writing negative reviews but the customer service in the Kings Arms is a disgrace. At 7.15pm this evening I walked into the pub with my wife, daughter and mother-in-law. I asked the woman behind the bar if they did food as, (unlike all the other establishments in Mevagissey) there was nobody else in the pub apart from her, the four of us and a lot flies (not a good endorsement!). The woman informed me it was 'Tapas Tuesday' and pointed to a chalk board listing just 5 to 6 dishes. As we didn't fancy the limited menu I thanked the woman and we turned towards the door. Her very rude and sarcastic response to this was, "you can get burgers and chips on the harbour!". We love tapas but the menu was just too limited. It's no wonder this seems to be the least busy place to eat in Mevagissey. The person who I spoke to very politely and reasonably needs to learn some basic 'good manners' and general customer service. We are staying in Mevagissey for a week and I can safely say that we won't step foot in this pub again. There are far friendlier places to spend money in the village!

Kris Nathan has excelled himself. Just popped into the King's Arms for a quick evening meal and Kris - the landlord - cooked and served the most amazing lobster. It was so large that, together with a plate of bread and salami, it was more than enough for three of us. The lobster was cooked to perfection, and was served with a courgette and samphire salad, a piquant mayonnaise, plus a small dish of seaweed dust (Kris explained that this was simply two kinds of dried seaweed crushed into a coarse dust) - a lovely accompaniment to the lobster.Amazing value, too. The lobster, salami and all the trimmings, plus six drinks, came to just over £50.

Definitely not your usual touristy place- many locals drink here and the vibe and overall atmosphere here is great, but it’s an acquired taste. The bread and pasta is clearly homemade and the meals are all cooked with love and care. We had lobster on our first visit and it was so good we went back the second.. and third night. The menu is changed daily and written up on a chalk board. Don’t expect a massive laminated affair with kiddies options. The wine list and beer selection are exceptional. Last night the chef put out homemade Cornish pasties on the bar free of charge for us to try; they were amazing. It’s not without its faults but the people both serving behind and drinking in the bar are lovely. Off down there again tonight.

The Kings Arms goes from strength to strength. From the outside it looks like an ordinary low-key pub. Inside, too, it looks fairly basic. But it's a delight for those in the know. Kris and Helen Nathan, the proprietors are great hosts and always make your visit a pleasure. There's an interesting variety of beer and cider from Cornwall and the West Country. There's an interesting range of wines (quite a bit of Portuguese wine at present), fortified wines and spirits. Then there are the fishermen who will hold forth and tell you about the different sea conditions, the best way to build a boat, and so on. But it's the food that lifts this pub to the heights. Kris is an outstanding chef/cook. As a baker and pastry chef, he's the best in Cornwall (but you'll have to go to local shops and cafes to buy his bread, scones and pastries). His pies and pasties are somehow both rich and delicate. On most evenings, there's a limited dinner menu at the pub. There's often a pasta dish (home-made pasta, of course), some freshly-supplied meat and/or fish cooked to perfection. On my most recent visit I ordered a chorizo and bean stew with primrose flowers and three-cornered garlic, served with fresh stonebaked bread. The flavours were intense, the texture melt-in-your mouth. A gastronomic delight. But don't bother with the King's Arms if you just want regular pub food like chicken in the basket or scampi and chips - you won't get them here.

We love this pub. Not only for their lovely cats which make me very happy when I visit. It is a lovely friendly local pub with fantastic staff. We spend most of our time here when we are in mevagissy as we can relax with a drink by the fire and eat the most amazing food you won't get anywhere else. The food is fantastic and I highly recommend a visit. There are improvements that need to be made and they need to decide what sort of place it is as they can't cope with many food orders and the barman has to run up and down the stairs with orders whilst trying to keep the bar going which was a tall order over Christmas as it was the busiest I've ever seen it one night. It also does take a long time to get your food which you would suggest it's not the best organised. I honestly think Kris could be mitchellin star standard given half a chance if they could get to grips with serving food quicker. It really is that good. All of that can be forgiven as the food is so so good and it really is my favourite place. Our main course however arrived about 45 minutes after our starters were cleared. We seriously thought we would miss the TV show. It was worth the wait however and delicious. Our guest house was only two minutes away so everything worked out fine. The owners were very enthusiastic and knew their stuff, but speed of service needs to be better. A somewhat quirky experience but very good indeed. The choice of beer is excellent, being the only free house in town and offering an alternative to the St Austell beers at all theother pubs. The menu is very short and, as a group of five, we ordered all the mains on offer and a starter. The dishes were excellent. The start of hummus with capers was great. The capers were toasted which made them crispy rather than salty - a great idea that worked brilliantly. All of the mains were delicious but, as they change the menu frequently, there is no point in giving precise details on each dish here. But all are homemade with great attention to detail and quite delicious . The only downside is the wait between courses but this is a very small operation and so it obviously takes some time to prepare. Can't recommend it highly enough!

They have a bakery, so all the bread is made on the premises. They also have a small but excellent wine list. The menu is small, on a blackboard and features only fresh items every day. If you are lucky enough to go when they are serving lobster, it is fresh and locally caught, and for lobster very fairly priced. A real find and living locally we will be back.

Visited here on a recommendation from our air bnb host.On entry to the pub it just seems like any other local sea side pub . Many local brews on tap from cider to ales . The menu is limited and from the offset even though the place was empty we were told there was a wait . Not being in a rush and happy to sit a chat we waited . We had a freshly cooked lobster at a cost of £20 which we were told had been freshly caught by the chef that morning . And a pork and fennel pasta . Freshly made pasta that day. Both dishes were cooked to perfection and were very reasonably priced . We would definitely return here when I’m mevagesey. 5 star food.

An odd place in many respects, it's never quite clear when it's open. There is a limited menu. The standard of cooking is great and the homemade bread is as good as it gets.No desserts.. Not many people eating there. Beer and wine are excellent.

The King's Arms looks like an ordinary pub with a slate floor, tall bar stools and old-fashioned benches. But it's also a gourmet's delight, with a decent (but small) selection of wines, specialist local beers, and outstanding food. It is run by Kris and Helen: he is the chef, and she selects the wine.My wife and I have eaten there a couple of times, and on each occasion been amazed by the quality and imagination of the cooking, including home-made pasta, and various seafood dishes. When we ate there earlier this week, we ordered a heritage tomato salad as a joint starter, accompanied by fresh, warm rosemary bread. The sliced tomato salad was in a garlicky, juicy dressing, and included red, orange, yellow and green tomatoes which were full-flavoured and almost a meal in themselves. The bread tasted freshly- baked. Yummy. For main course, my wife ordered chicken and fennel agnoletti - beautifully flavoured in a delicate broth, while I ordered a whole lobster with a flavoured mayonnaise and fennel salad. As Kris catches the lobsters himself, it was incredibly fresh and tasty (and Kris's "small" was bigger than lobsters I've been served elsewhere - goodness knows what the large ones are like!)We chose a crisp portuguese white and a Cornish lager to drink - perfect accompaniments for the food. And the bill didn't break the bank.

This is a small pub but but the beer is good and although a limited choice of food (on the blackboard outside) there was an unusual choice and it was well cooked.

Freshly caught lobster skillfully cooked served the same day it was locally caught, superb - this really is an absolute gem! As if that wasn't enough the owners have their own range of wine to drink and buy, nice quality too..

We were welcomed to the lovely quaint traditional Cornish pub for Sunday lunch. Eight of us enjoyed the most delicious food... fresh fresh lobster with homemade mayonnaise, beef Ragu, freshly made tagliatelle with pesto and the best sourdough bread we have ever tasted. We will be returning ....

We popped in to grab a beer just on the fact we had been told they were fully booked for food. Good range of beers and a friendly welcome.Very much a locals pub and within minutes the tables were all full of reservations. The food that came out looked outstanding and made us wish we had thought early on to visit (and book).A must visit on our next trip back.

Thanks @cooknathan for a master class in letting the produce shine. We ordered in advance and as a preview to the Lobster Festival and were delighted. The Lobster (thanks Malcolm) was sublime, served with delicious sea vegetables and a seaweed mayonnaise to die for, along with Kris’s signature home made sourdough bread. #doesntgetanybetterthanthat

Limited range of lagers, no coffee. Has a character of its own, candles on the table which my grandchildren loved. Borrowed draughts from the friendly landlord, good drinking pub with character.

Dropped by hoping to get a Sunday "lunch" roast at 5.30 pm for 5 of us in mid December , we were understandably expecting our request to be rejected, but to our delight Helen (who we meet out the front) said she would check with the kitchen and see what they had left and what they could do , to our delight we could have our Sunday "LUNCH" Roast!!! and it was absolutely fantastic! Roast beef with home made horseradish, a big tray of roasted potatoes and vegetables followed buy the best rice pudding! Can i just say the horseradish was out of this world! nothing like what we have had before, and the rice pudding with orange was sublime, and the Yorkshire puddings were huge, light, not greasy and delicious! top this all off with the fabulous staff & service, great drinks, beautiful ambience of this cosy little pub with its open fire & the resident cat who was a big hit with our girls. Thanks to everyone, you made our stay in Mevagissy even more memorable with your hospitality and beautiful food. We hope to get back one day and have another Sunday "lunch" roast.

Recommend booking especially for Sunday lunch the chef landlord is so good, everything was perfect and you can tell he cares what ingredients he uses, the beef we had was seriously good and pink in the middle, as good as a 5 star restaurant without any of the stuffiness. A welcoming pub and a bit different from the rest.

A slightly different sort of pub to the norm, which I liked. Reminded me a bit of The Windjammer in Dartmouth. Different ales for Mevagissey, Harbour Brewery, good. Real fire, flagged floor, rustic seating, this is not an off the shelf pubco refurb type pub. If your favourite pub is a Harvester, this probably won't be to your liking. Right - food, the chef/owner here does a small blackboard menu of maybe 3 or 4 things and that's it. This changes daily. We ate here on a Monday and there was one dish, butternut squash curry with home made pickle and dall, rice, plus some other accompaniments. It was all home made, fresh tasting and a total delight! This chef has got something - but doesn't want to boast about it. Dog friendly.

We were made to feel very welcome in this pub with landlords who know their ales and wines. If you're ever in the area very much recommend popping in to have a drink and the lobster is fantastic, loved the way chef served pre-cracked with fennel and apple to dress plus bread from their on-site bakery. Plus as local fishermen drink in this bar a it's a fraction of the price as compared to anywhere else in Meva. Landlord even remembered what wine I had the day before. Our hosts at a local B&B frequent this place too so I would say it is less 'dirty back street boozer' as a previous reviewer so eloquently describes, more authentic Cornish pub. We'll be back!

We were looking for just a pub for drinks as we had already eaten and came across this pub. Loved it, seems frequented by locals, not rowdy, no loud music, had board games to help yourself to. Was nice to sit have a drink and a game of scrabble or two, totally chilled out bar. They did serve tapas the one night and the second they had pasties, which are cooked on the premises. Can't wait to visit next Easte

Mevagissey is beautiful. Plenty of places to eat and drink. The appeal of the Kings Arms was our curiosity to why some afternoons it was simply closed. During our week in the village we walked past the pub every day, no regularity with openning times or indication of whether food was available. So we gave up second guessing whether to go there at all.The pub itself is humble and traditional. No familiar largers or ales, but the ale I ordered was ok and was served by a twitchy but enthusiastic barmaid who had clearly been sampling the peculiar ales for most of the day, and was clearly drunk or something along those lines.Cant comment on the food, as there was none available and no menu to check for another day.As for the gents toilet, I have recently been to Sudan, and the vaccinations from that trip kept me from contracting anything lethal. My wife made similar comments about the ladies loos.Didnt feel welcoming. Seems the management has limited business knowledge or no experience in hospitslity. A small pub is a basic business to run but this one seemed hell bent on failure during the busy holiday season. I run a consultantancy business in the hospitality industry, and this place is missing the point entirely. So for my poor English.

We have spent every evening in the kings arms this week. We love the ambiance, the music, the beers and the food. The ambiance is chilled and very friendly, the music laid back. The beers are the most tasty variety and not the usual St Austell brew. The food is individually prepared by a guy who knows what he is doing. Every mouthful is exquisite. Can't say more. Go and see for yourselves.

Unique in the village, many guest ales, and an individual take on locally sourced ingredients. If they are doing food, eat here, if the catch hasn't been good, there are lots of other places to eat.

Getting seats in restaurants in Mevagissey is not easy if you don't book. We came here for an evening meal and the dining area was full as was the bar so we eventually booked for another evening. The dining room is upstairs in a small room with a handful of tables. I ordered large fish and chips, which tasted very good though I have had larger elsewhere. Being a pub they also have a good range of real ales and ciders that kept me happy.

Went few times in the pub. Nice cider, beer not great. On mist occasions we were served by a friendly blonde waitress. Really nice and helpful. Went again on their Spanish night. Great soanush people being enthusiastic about their wine, what a shame about the owners who did not make us feel welcome and when asked about their lobster week the owner did not care about our interest and told us to go and check on the blackboard outside. Wow!! No customer skills, no manners. I thought Mevagissey was happy to welcome tourists. Not in this place. They take your money and barely acknowkedge you. Maybe they have too much money!!

Visited twice on consecutive evenings - drinks on one night and food to take away on the second. A cozy one roomed pub.....with a difference. The very small changing menu consists of fresh locally sourced products all cooked with enthusiasm, care and attention. Although simplicity is the name of the game the results are of high quality, deserving of far greater praise and are great value. Drinks are also taken very seriously - great local beers with no mass produced stuff from the "nationals".

This place has a tiny menu. But that means that everything on it is freshly made and thought through with care. It is also 100% locally/regionally sourced, and a lot of the ingredients are organic. These people care about food and you can taste it! One of us ordered bread and cheese but it was home-made sourdough bread made in house with really excellent local Cornish cheeses and homemade chutney, with a side of nicely dressed apple salad. And all for £5! There was also pheasant pie, pork ribs and a couple of other options on the menu. It's also a very quant little pub, with a beautiful wooden bar, great choice of local and organic ales and other drinks, and friendly staff. Well worth a visit.

The ice creams here are beautiful! Really generous portions and are very well presented. The customer service we received was outstanding, my daughter had a massive meltdown (ASD) and they were nothing but supportive, understanding and helpful. We'd had a very tough day today with meltdowns galore and this one was by far the worst of the day yet I never felt alone or judged. People like you make the biggest difference and I am so very grateful for you going out of your way to help and care. Thank you x
