I visited for the last time. My lunch was wonderful as usual , Hubby had the ploughman’s . I couldn’t wait for a piece or should I say slab of strawberry & cream cake. This wonderful place CLOSED at the end of September. The lease no longer viable , the cafe has decided to move to TRURO . So although I am sad , I know I will be able to visit TRURO for my delicious Cakes. So if you love this place like I do look out for ‘The Cake House’ in Truro .

What an amazing place!! Looks very mundane from the outside on an industrial estate but what a surprise inside. Beautifully decorated, super clean and delicious food. Loved the attention to detail and the American diner atmosphere. Tables with U.S city names etc. not to mention the polite friendly staff. Well worth a visit and will certainly go again when visiting the area.

We stayed here for one night and were really disappointed. The place has a high rating, but I think it’s from the old owners — the new management doesn’t seem to care. The room was very basic and the curtains were disgustingly dirty. Late at night (around 11:30 PM), the owners who live downstairs started playing piano or loud music. We were trying to sleep — not ideal in a B&B. We paid £190 including breakfast, but it was just cereal and croissants — no full English, no real options. Not worth the price at all. overcharged. Wouldn’t stay here again.

After being disappointed at lack of vegan cake options, we stopped by Jordans and were very happy to find a couple of cakes, slightly pricey but that's to be expected for a beach front cafe but absolutely delicious cake and nice to be catered for🍰

Good quality food if you respect good cooking. We were getting really disappointed in paying for food I can cook better at home, so when we came across this little gem we were really pleased. It wasn’t cheap for a quick lunch out but you’re getting good quality. Inside was cosy with candles on tables and open fire. Our only gripe was the £7.96 service charge we wasn’t asked if we wanted to pay. Thought this was naughty and made it an expensive lunch out.

I wanted to love it, the location is lovely, the staff are really friendly and efficient but at the end of the day you come to a pub to eat and drink and that’s where (mostly) it doesn’t deliver. This was our second visit and we stayed for two nights at the neighbouring White House (which has great rooms) but as we walked on that meant we had to eat in the Tinners. You have to be really careful what you pick from the menu, both times there’s been one menu option that was decent (the crab last year, the mussels this time). Pub food in generally has deteriorated in the last few years and started to be less like honest fried food and more like some weird stuck together thing. So we deliberately didn’t opt for chips having had some with weirdly liquid centres elsewhere and tried to avoid the ubiquitous hard think breadcrumbed fish / meat options where the thick “breadcrumb” cover is clearly designed to keep the amount of meat or fish needed and therefore costs down. That meant as well as the mussels we had a warm mackerel ploughman’s and opted for white bait for a shared starter. The smoked mackerel in the ploughman’s was ok but a weird orange colour - not enjoyable but edible. However the whitebait came in a think hard layer of “breadcrumbs”. The funniest bit was when I politely mentioned it the poor server tried to tell me that was the Cornish way - Unfortunately for him I actually grew up near Plymouth so very calmly told him that was not right so then slightly flustered he tried to change his mind and say he knew it wasn’t the Cornish way. I’d guess that means I’m not the first person to say this - it’s more like the cheap and nasty catering company way, the hundreds of plates of whitebait I served to tourists when I was younger definitely had no breadcrumbs involved and it in was a very ordinary pub. Then there’s the beer, I know a lot of the tourist base is made up of people from the north of England where bitter tends to be served gassy with a head (the gas actually not being a result of the natural fermentation). The Tinners managed to destroy what are normally good local bitters by adding gas to give them a head. So overall a poor experience - and one that means we won’t stay at the White House again as we both now have horribly gassy bloated stomachs. So sad and wish it was still the pub I remember from when I was younger where the food and drink were lovely as well as the staff. Shame on the owners for serving up this muck.
