This is a good place to visit. Beers are generally a little cheaper than other public houses in the area. Staff appear young (perhaps that's because I'm a bit of a fossil), but all of the staff are friendly and helpful. The one aspect of this pub that really lets it down is the lack of heating. I've visited several times, admittedly in autumn and winter, and the place is, well, freezing. I sat next to the woodburning stove on my last visit, but even then, after awhile, the cold became uncomfortable. I noticed that most of the other guests, many of whom were dining, did not take off their outdoor coats. Everyone is different and I'm sure that others will not be deterred by this, but for myself, I prefer to enjoy my beer in comfort AND warmth.

This is a lovely old pub and I'm sure it would appeal all the more in the summer time when you can enjoy a walk along the river. The other thing for me was the excellent Sunday roast. The food was very enjoyable indeed and one of the best I've had in a while. Sunday was my first visit and I'll be heading back there soon. Highly recommend.

On our recent holiday in Cornwall we ate at the pub twice , once for a Sunday roast and a midweek meal , on both occasions the food and the service was excellent and the staff very friendly. We did book in advance as this pub seems to be a popular place to drink and dine.

We were travelling back to Looe and found this treasure of a place just minutes off the A30. No booking needed, although we were early! The food was delicious, good sized portions and extremely good value for money. The staff were excellent and friendly and I would highly recommend this restaurant. I would probably book if you want to eat later than 6 !!

Really disappointed .Revisited after a few years. Well we didn’t even get to order food . We found an unreserved table after a few minutes the waitress appears asks us to move as a family wanted our table . We moved the family apparently had complained about some guys who were having a post work beer . So the staff moved them the member of staff didn’t check to see if any one was sat at the table she had been told to move them to . Moral is don’t just sit down at an unreserved table. . Staff not very good in resolving an issue . Shame really sure food would have been good .

Well what can I say,we are down for a long weekend for my wife’s birthday. We went to the watermill to celebrate her birthday,we arrived at the watermill with not booking a table but it was ok because the lady behind the bar said it was quite quiet and we could sit anywhere we liked,so we did,it then all started from there,we were waiting sometime to be served,we had to make a drink order along side ordering our food. We both ordered ribeye steaks,my wife having hers cooked medium and myself ordering mine well done and yes I like mine cooked 😬. When they arrived we were presented with sirloin steaks,I mentioned to the waitress that we had ordered ribeye steaks and this is not what we have in front of us,she went back to the kitchen to ask and come back with a reply from the chef that they are ribeye(I do know the difference between ribeye and sirloin as I bet most people do),so I said ok no problem no point ruining our evening,I then cut into my steak and oh my days it was more like rare-medium 🤮,so upto the bar I went, telling the lady behind the bar my steak is under cooked, the waitress came to the table asking what would I like to do,my reply was I’d like another cooked correctly,we also said could they recook my wife’s meal as she didn’t want to sit there eating alone while I was waiting for mine to be recooked, which she did,oh and what a surprise when both meals came back out they were both ribeye’s and both cooked as we had asked for,why couldn’t they have just done that in the first place.

It is a local pub in Cornwall that hasn’t improved with the times. The service was what let it down for myself and my family. When you have to wait up to 45mins for your food when there were only about 8 other tables and not all of them ordering food. The quality of the food was hit and miss so not even worth the wait.

Called in ...6 people...to have dinner. On arrival we asked for a table for 6 for dinner. Staff gave us menu and we sat down to choose our meal. Whilst ordering drinks we overheard staff say kitchen had said no more walk ins. We politely checked that we were still OK to order food, and explained that if food weren't an option, we did not want to order drinks and would move on to find dinner elsewhere. We paid £28 for 3 alcoholic drinks , 3 soft drinks and a coffee. The barman delivered the coffee and told us there was miscommunication...no food available No refund or discount on drinks that we had just bought either....not happy. We are locals not on holiday...so won't be returning.

I’m sorry to say we had such a poor experience at the Watermill last night. We tried the pub for dinner but were very disappointed. When we arrived the pub was relatively quiet, we went across to the empty bar to explain we had a reservation and must have been stood there 2 minutes or so before any of the 3 girls behind the bar, all stood with their back to us chatting, acknowledged us. Even then we weren’t seen too, one girl said she would be with us shortly and walked away and the other two girls went outside and stood by the back door and continued chatting. One of them came back in after around a minute and asked if she could help, before showing us to our table. We were given menus and a further 10 minutes passed without anyone coming to our table to ask if we wanted any drinks. At this point again the pub was still quiet. My sister went to the bar and asked if someone could take our orders, the girls were again stood behind an empty bar chatting, but they did then come and take our orders when we asked them too. The starters came (2 out of 5 of us ordered) and in fairness they were both nice. Our food then arrived - 3 out of 5 meals came together and then the last 2 came around 5 minutes afterwards. Two of the meals were cold, my toddler had sausage and mash and the sausages were very burnt. I ordered a prawn linguine from the specials board and something used in the sauce was definitely off. It was completely sour and left the most awful taste in your mouth. I am 7.5 months pregnant so after a few mouthfuls and realising how off it was, I didn’t risk eating anything further. By this point the pub was very busy and it appeared only one waitress was attending to everybody. Nobody came to check if our food was ok or ask if we had any problems, or offer us any further drinks. We got up and left, my father went to the bar to speak to the staff and was asked if everything was ok. He explained it wasn’t and told the bartender what had happened. She apologised and then presented a bill of £137, which we paid. I woke up at 11pm last night vomiting at 7.5 months pregnant. No idea what on earth has gone wrong last night or whether this is a usual occurrence but the whole experience was awful.

We booked a table and we were asked if anyone had any allergies or intolerances, I'm vegan, so it was promising that they could cater for me. The menu online showed a couple of potentially vegan options The venue is an interesting building but parking in the car park is very tight. The menu, different to that online, doesn't highlight veggie/vegan or allergens. I had to ask what was suitable for me and the waitress had to go and ask the kitchen. They could make me a vegan-ised version of the linguini with roasted vegetables. I'm not a fan of pasta but that was the only option. It was a big portion and the sauce was very tasty. A vegan pie or burger could have been doable alongside the rest of the menu. My partner had a rib-eye steak which was, he told me, amazingly good and perfectly cooked. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the service was quick. Not sure we'd go again though. An up-to-date menu on the FB page, or a website, would be good so people know the menu beforehand.

We asked a waitress if we could have a table, but we were asked to go find out at the bar. Two people behind the bar, one serving and one looking at the till. After 10 mins of standing awkwardly, we departed and ate at another local pub. We are unlikely to return.

Unfortunately we had a terrible meal here. The burger was inedible, awful quality and over cooked, could barely chew it. The chips however were really good! The falafel was also really dry and flavourless. We told the front of house staff when asked how everything was and the chef came out who then told us they had just taken over last week and were using the previous owners/chefs food up. The chef gave us a complementary drinks as an apology. We paid in full for our meals, which we wish we hadn't as £15.95 for some chips, a burger bun and a small dollop of coleslaw on reflection is awful. The pub itself is really nice with a lovely garden and the staff were all friendly and polite.

We will not be returning to the Watermill. This pub needs more staff when it's busy. The waitress was rushed off her feet when we were there. She forgot about our drinks order, a trip to the bar and a gentle reminder that we had not received our drinks. we got a lot of apologies and the price of the drinks knocked off our bill. The greens I received with my meal had been seasoned with something that resembled curry powder. We had finished our meal and waited for someone to come and clear our table, after 30 minutes we paid and left. The people who we dealt with were all very pleasent but customers service was poor.

Absolutely lovely cosy place, with the fire lit. The staff were friendly and helpful, a really nice place. We chose the fish and chips from the special £10 lunch menu. We had sticky toffee pudding with custard which was good. My reason for marking the food down, was because the fish and chips was not quite it. We had 2 goujons of fish each and there was not much fish, mostly batter. Perhaps better advertised as small goujons, rather than 'fish' as we expected a piece of fish. The chips, tartare sauces and peas were lovely. I will go back but won't order the fish and chips again.

We’ve been coming here every year for the last 5 years whilst on holiday. Sadly, after tonight’s visit it will be our last. Gone is the old hearty, extensive pub menu - it has now been replaced with an extremely small menu which doesn’t even feature starters. After ordering drinks we were informed of a 45 minute to hour wait on food. Great. When it arrived, I had a relatively small piece of dry lasagne which lacked any sauce. My partner ordered fish, chips & mushy peas - no mushy peas on the plate, just garden peas with no explanation why. The cost of these two meals and a lemonade & lime/soda water was £38. Nowhere near worth it - and no, we are far from tight. Looking at all the previous reviews from the last few months they have all gone from highly rated, to poor. A real shame.

Lovely location and embiance. However food took an hour to come out. Had the slow cooked pork which was very dissappointing. Mash bland, pork definitely wasn't slow cooked, very chewy and had great lumps of fat that were in-edible. Hubby had ham, egg & chips which was supposed to come with peas but didn't. He also paid extra for cheesy chips but they forgot so gave him a bowl of cheese. 🙁 Won't be going back.

Lovely pub serving great Sunday roast dinners. Friendly staff and obviously popular judging by the reserved tables. Keenly priced, too.

Shocking service! I called in the afternoon to book a table and was left with a voice message to leave a clear message with phone number which I did stating I would like to book a table for that evening…. I did not receive a call back and tried again about 1 1/2 hrs later to no avail so we arrived at 6.15 thinking it would be ok. No tables available and then to be very quickly dismissed by a young staff member named Josh who said after we told him we had left a voice mail “well I’m busy with things to do” and after explaining they leave a voice message asking you to leave a message he says “well that’s the way it is…” wow, never have I experienced that kind of service with no apology whatsoever and being extremely blunt and rude with a definite ‘I don’t give a toss attitude!!’ So far this has been the only bad experience of Cornwall we have had so far… don’t bother attending, they definitely don’t warrant your time or money…. To add… attended The Badger PH after this experience and staff were amazing and great food to boot…. Def recommend and would return.

Food was awful. Greasy fried fish with no discernible flavour. The chips were supposed to be skin on, but were frozen chips fried to the point of burning. I nearly broke a tooth they were so hard. Tartare sauce from a jar and mushy peas from a can. Horrible. The pub itself was a bit of a dump trying to be old-fashioned. One bar staff was good, the rest were ignoramuses.

Was looking forward to going here. Had some issues in the day so decided to go out for food. I emailed, sent a FB message and called 3 times to see if they could accomodate and couldnt reach anyone. Arrived just before 8 and was advised food was served until 9 but the chef wouldnt take our order. Staff didnt seem friendly and got an unwelcome vibe.
