Saturday is takeaway treat for my sons. Our usual chippy was shut, so we went to Darren’s, as I used to eat there years ago. It used to be good, now not so much. In fact probably one of the worst experience I’ve had. I can’t speak about all of the food, only that which we bought. The chips were greasy as hell, Carrier bag full of fat from the five min drive home, son’s battered burger looked really overdone and not at all appetising. I ordered kebab meat and chips, what a mistake. What little there was, had obviously been sliced and kept in a pot for long time, as it was dried out like a piece of shoe leather. My other son said place making him feel ill, so refused to order anything. To top it all, the price……..double the cost for two of us , compared to all three of us elsewhere. In fact, using the kebab meat and chips as example, elsewhere, £5.50 - £6.50, Darren’s £8.00 for what amounted to half sized portion. Only found one place more expensive in area, although they do give you at least 3 times more meat! I agree with other reviews, Darren’s name should be removed from above shop. Food thrown out, even cat turned its nose at it, left for the gulls. Would never go there again.

Order fish chips etc on phone got there shop busy took out money told sit wait started serving people who had come in after us they forgot do us the lady in shop ok but was overworked cook kept giving phone to women and young gentlemen was like wet weekend not much help Darrens use to be brilliant ask for money back went somewhere else went be going back

Never going back, food has gone down hill big time, chips are awful, more like frozen chips than fresh, shame because was the best chippy around.

Oh what have you done Darren retiring, you chip shop has really gone done mate, the chips were awful as was the fish, Darren had his own secret rescipe and obviously hasn't past it on to the new owner? Get them to take your name off the shop , we won't be going back to it 🤬

Was not happy the chips were not nice. The batter was not even sticking to the batter. The service has gone down hill.

Potatoe fritters and cod bites were excellent, not sure if I can get old skool fritters anywhere else. Mum and Me are very happy this evening. 5 stars Darren's.

The very best fish and chips I have had In a Very long time! So beautiful. Not 1 old over done chip, all freshly cooked! Too many chip shops refry lunch time chips and there awful! Darren's is THE very best! Will definitely be going back 👍

We Travelled 334 mls from Manchester to See Family and the 1st Meal we have on a Friday Evening is a Trip to "Darren's Chippy" and as Per Usual we are Met by the Friendly Girl's who take our Order.. Every Time we are Made feel Welcome as if they know us.. they Take our Order and we're off.. EVERY TIME, We have an Excellent Fish Supper.. 4 Different Dishes, each as Tasty as each other, Fantastic Food, Good Company, who could ask for More... Thank You "Darren's Chippy" for Starting our Summer Holiday..

Lovely Fish & chips but the star of the show for me was the HomeMade Fish cakes. Staff were really friendly helpful. Will be going here again on my next visit. Keep up the great service.

We'd been told about this place by a lot of people and never heard a bad thing about it, so we thought we'd give it a shot - and it's definitely the new local fish and chips from now on! The batter on the cod is amazing, and the portion sizes are huge! It's good value for your money and the staff were all happy and wish you well as you head out. Will definitely be ordering again soon!

Yet to try anything different as I’ve only been a couple of times but good fish and chips!! Not too greasy and friendly customer service, been a large queue both times I’ve been here which says it all. Quickly got through their customers which was refreshing for the local area, and I assume another reason why people are willing to queue.

Ordered chips and they may aswell have been crisps as it seems they give me all the crispy bits from the bottom of the pan, I like my chips soft and don't mind a few crispy hard bits but not all crispy like these

Had a family order so a few different things I really loved the cod it fell apart it was delicious. All staff really nice.

I'm vegan so asked for chips fried in sunflower oil. They had rapeseed oil, so I gave them a try. They were delicious and crunchy. Very friendly service.

Wanted to try Darren’s Fish and Chips. Well we weren’t disappointed. Fish was really really flavoursome and a good size. Chips were really good as well. It was made extra special by being able to have ‘proper’ salt and vinegar as other places are giving you sachets due to Covid. Was daunted when I pulled up due to a queue but the service was quick. Also a queue is sign of popularity. Will be back again 😎

We have our fish&chips every Friday and then eat them in the car over looking the sea in Portreath what a treat best in the west.
