The Old Forge Lelant in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Absolutely fantastic dining experience! We loved this place so much that we dined here twice during our week in Cornwall, even booking it for our final night. The service was outstanding, with incredibly helpful staff who went out of their way to cater to my husband’s celiac needs, offering plenty of delicious gluten-free options. The food was excellent – we enjoyed both the pizzas and the steak. My steak, in particular, was one of the best I’ve had in a long time! The restaurant is also dog-friendly, which made things so easy for us, and the cozy, relaxing ambiance made for such a lovely evening. Highly recommended for anyone looking for great food, attentive service, and a welcoming atmosphere!

After our first visit with poor service we tried again when other family members wanted to go. Once again fantastic food. This time service was excellent. They catered for allergies in the group and were great with the kids. We must have had a dodgy waitress the first time who didn’t want to be at work as this was a totally different enjoyable experience!

This is one of those places that could do with more attention to details to get the 5 stars. We ordered a bottle of wine and the waitress brought it to the table already open, not a great start. We ordered starters and they were really good and then a pizza, cooked to perfection but the sauce was quite salty and not enjoyable. I would definitely go again to try other things on the menu.

Lovely place- we enjoyed our food. It is a bit on the pricey side but you are paying for the nice decor and food is good quality. The staff are very friendly but I have been places that you get more for your money. I think my sandwich was around £11 which seemed a bit expensive. But it was very nice. Also added a 12.5% service charge which seemed steep given the price of the meals. It was optional but felt awkward for it to be removed. My husband did enjoy GF pizza though. Said it was one of the best ones he had ever had

Absolutely top notch food, perfectly balanced. The new hake special was heavenly and, despite sounding overly complicated, was perfectly balanced. The sticky toffee pudding was the greatest, most luxuriant dessert I have ever had. Well kept beer too and they welcomed our dog Basil with open arms!

Fantastic from the word go. Walking into this place was a wonderful experience the staff were so helpful and friendly. Beef Ragu was unbelievable. Will definitely be back when we visit st Ives again. Highly recommend to everyone.

First visit to this little Bistro and very happy with the quality and taste of the food and the service. Will be returning on our future visits to our Cornish Family.

We had a fantastic meal here, which also catered really nicely for my veggie and dairy allergy requirements. The risotto was delicious and my partner thoroughly enjoyed the scotch eggs. It was all very tasty and the service was excellent. Very lovely ambience. We will be back. Thank you.

Everyone recommends this place so we finally tried it. When shown to the table we were dropped a menu and then they walked off! The table next to us that were shown to the table were offered water and drinks. I had to ask for ours which seemed odd. The food was amazing, sharing starters were excellent. No complaints at all. When the plates were cleared they were taken without asking how our meal was and without offering desserts or more drinks. Again really odd and not very attentive. After about 20 minutes someone offered us coffee and the bill. Still no desserts, so we paid and left. I’m not sure why there was such a lack of service as it didn’t appear that way on all tables. Really quite upsetting as it was our first couples meal out in a long time

A romantic out, great surroundings, but for a general drop-in would not recommend. the prices are extravagant. A bought pizza £3-£6 in here £16 a Carbonara £17.50. WOW if you can afford it.

4 star food 2 star service. starters are very good. Service was lacking in attention. No water offered to the table on sitting down, empty glasses where removed and we asked for a drinks menu but where left for at least 15 mins without being asked if we would like another drink. After the meal no offer was made for a desert.

Lovely little restaurant. Great food, lovely wine and great atmosphere. Book a table in the evenings on busier days as we went on a Thursday and was busy. We had the Dough Balls, Meatballs and Sweetcorn fritters to start. These were amazing! Also had the chorizo pizza and rissoto for mains, also so delicious. The staff were super kind and enjoyed every minute. Thank you!

We had a take out pizzas from here. Honestly, it's the best pizza we've had in the UK!! We are very glad we found this place on our travels. Not only is the amazing food, the service is next level, warm and welcoming. We were asked when ordering how far away we were to ensure the pizza was fresh when we arrived to collect. Highly recommend to anyone who loves great food and flavours.

Two members of our party were vegan and are used to having to settle for the 1 or 2 options available, so we were extremely pleased to be handed our own vegan menus. Obviously they had less options then the full menu but we had 3 starter options, several side options, 2 mains and 5 pizza options. The food was great, more then adequate portions, especially for the price. We were sat in their covered courtyard, complete with heat lamps. The beautiful stone of the building, decor and general ambience made for a delightful experience. Our waitress, I didn't get her name but she was blond and wearing black dungarees, was attentive without being over bearing, was very knowledgeable about the food and pleasantly friendly. The cost wasn't too prohibitive either, around £99 for 2 starters, 3 pizzas, a side, 3 soft drinks and 2 smoothies. This also included a service charge of 12.5% that other reviews have complained about but it is made very clear that this charge is completely optional and more then fair given the great service we received. All in all a great dinner, to the point that we have booked again to go the next night! Thank you!

Being a vegan & visiting the area on holiday we googled restaurants & chose the Old Forge as it said it had vegan options. We were treated to a choice of 3 starters, 5 pizzas & 2 mains - fantastic as being a vegan usually the only choice on a menu is a “dodgy” fake burger. The food arrived promptly & was delicious. The price was also very reasonable. One member of the party isn’t vegan & also had a delicious meal from the main menu. Thank you, will definitely come again during our stay in Cornwall.

We moved to the area recently and have finally got round to trying the take home Pizzas, absolutely amazing, strongly recommend :-)

As locals TOF is our go to destination for a family lunch celebration. 8 of us went for a birthday treat a couple of weeks ago and all tried something different from small plates to pizza, everything was tasty and well presented and big portions! As usual service was with a smile and it’s so good to see a small independent thriving in such difficult times! Well done to all the team at TOF who made our visit so special.

Recently visited the Forge and ordered two vegan pizza's which were delicious and the service was good even though they were extremely busy. Would definitely revisit next time we are in Cornwall

Very good quality food. Dog friendly. Clean place. Only let down was the two severs we had didn’t seem to communicate with each other both asking for our orders and brining same drink over, not a big deal though.

Fantastic restaurant with great food

A lovely place to eat ,they do a happy hour 2 pizzas for £20, the fish and chips were lovely, also the staff are very friendly too and very helpful, we liked the dough balls and the calamari, definitely be going back here to this lovely place.

Lovely clean and comfortable restaurant with great ambience and friendly staff. Chips and onion rings were cooked perfectly. Was great to see the corn burger on the menu and it was good but needed a bit more a kick - maybe some chilli or a strong tomato relish. Will go back soon and try some of the other veggie options.

We have been on a holiday for a week and have visited three times. Every time my two daughters shared the Bolognese and a pepperoni pizza and said it was a 10 star Bolognese and very good pizza. Fish of the day was delicious as was the greek salad. Friendly welcome, very accommodating and the food is tasty with good ingredients. Relaxed cosy environment, thoroughly recommend. Would definitely go again . Bewear of building your mussel towers too high because it will fall over.

Just had a delicious lunch there. Mushroom and goats cheese ciabatta. Very tasty.

Called in for coffee and a cake. The coffee was really good and the cake was delicious. We sat outside which was really lovely.

A lovely welcome, which is always nice, and all the staff were lovely. The ambience was good and the music play list suited our taste, so another plus. It was our first visit, so we thought we would try the early evening pizza deal and were not disappointed. We shared doughnuts for dessert and they were also lovely. To sum up, a nice place with lovely people serving great food and drinks. We will be back soon.

We visited here as a lady minute decision as we couldn't get into the place we'd planned to eat in. What a stoke of luck! The food is outstanding in this place. I wouldn't say it's cheap and cheerful, but not mega expensive either for what you get. Probably the best meal we've during our visit to Cornwall in the last few weeks. The only advice I'd give is to park at the disused train station which is located in the housing estate opposite the restaurant as we couldn't get a space at first and struggled to find anything else. Next time I'd head straight for the parking rather than try for a space outside.

Food is tasty, a little on the expensive end. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Best meal and service we had in the area.

Recently visited for lunchtime food with my wife. We have popped along each year whilst on holidays and always enjoyed the experience here. Thankfully the food, experience and staff are all still superb. It's a great fine and easy to get to by bus or short 20 mins walk on the flat from Lelant station. If your in the Hayle or St Ives area pop along and pre book to secure your spot there is outdoor tables covered from rain which we made the most of. This visit we enjoyed Corn fritters starters, and a pizza, and pasta dish for mains all superb

We’ve been here twice in a row for a superb breakfast. Yummy options! The pancakes are delicious and we can thoroughly recommend the Açai smoothie bowl and Shakshouka too! The sweetcorn fritters were amazing! We ate in the covered courtyard. Lovely coffee too. 100% the best place in Hayle for breakfast!

This was our first visit since the business changed to a full restaurant and we loved it. A wonderfully relaxed late lunch with delicious food and an excellent choice of drinks. The service was very friendly and efficient. I have no doubt we will be returning soon. Thank you.

Lunch time Caesar Salad and Spaghetti carbonara was lovely. It was the perfect place to eat after a nice walk from St Ives to Lenant. Dog friendly as well

Stopped here for lunch today on the way down to West Cornwall. The service was wonderful, staff were so friendly and accommodating and the food was delicious. Good veggie options and the coffee was lush. Thoroughly recommend it!

A hidden gem in Hayle fabulous food and lovely staff within a beautiful old building

The best food we had in the St Ives area. Excellent restaurant with a great deli shop. The staff were really nice and friendly and the service was brilliant. However, the food was the star of the show, I had the Whitebait to start, which was the freshest, tastiest that I've had with a delicious homemade tartar sauce. For main I had the amazing Ragu, my friend described it as the best she's ever had. It was stunning! For dessert, I had the berry pavlova which was another stunner. My other companions had chicken wings and were blown away by the sauce, the chicken burger (one of the best he'd had) and the kids shared a pizza and pasta which they loved. The wines and cocktails were also excellent.

We were a large family group seated under cover on the patio on a busy Saturday night. Food was excellent. Recommend the linguini, sweetcorn fritters, carbonara, bolognese, fish and chips. In fact everything. Lively ambience and attentive hosts. Wonderful little restaurant.

You get a lovely welcome as you enter fhis cute bistro and it’s a good indicator of the excellent service that you will receive The food punches well above its weight and price and whilst I’m more on the French and New world side of the wine list there are some interesting wines from Spain on the list Really enjoyed it’s well executed simplicity

By far some of the most delicious food we've ever tasted. Honestly the best pizza had me dreaming about for days. Both Becky and Michael put their heart into this place, from the atmosphere and warm welcoming service, which is replicated by their staff to the gorgeous food. You guys are fab! X

I met my friend here for lunch on a first time visit, and we were both really impressed by how tasty and affordable the lunchtime menu was. It felt much more ‘special’ than the usual salad or sandwich we usually meet for. It is such a good idea to offer lunchtime versions of their most popular dinner options. We went for crab linguini and risotto and they were delicious and a perfect size for lunch. The courtyard was lovely and sunny, and the service was great. Definitely recommend.

Wonderful meal here and lovely family and dog friendly restaurant. All courses were delicious, in particular the crab linguine and my son, who is a very fussy eater said it was the best dough balls and bolognaise he’s ever had. Would thoroughly recommend. Parking was busy, but the station car park is a two minute walk will ample spaces.

If this review was for food it would be 5* If this review was for staff it would be 5* If it was for venue it would be 5* I live in the local area and have been to TOF a few times. On a recent lunch trip with 2 friends we had a service charge over £23 This is why I give TOF 1* This is not London Mayfair ….it’s Lelant. It is not even suggested ( with diff % ) it is added on and you have the embarrassment of saying , no , I am not paying that ridiculous price. 4 starters , 4 mains , 4 puddings , 1 drink each should not be over £23 for service charge for lunch . £5-£10 is fair and £10 would be generous. Sadly , we will not be back until this utter greed ends. Mgmt please get real and reduce this charge or you will destroy the business . It smells of the utter greed that exists in hospitality in Cornwall . We are not all tourists !

Many years been using Old Forge and it is only getting better. Always a great place to grab a bite to eat, really lovely food and customer service.

We ended up eating here 3x during a recent stay in St. Ives. We only planned to eat dinner there once, but the food was so good we went back twice more. One night we both had Steak & ale pie, the next time Crab linguine and Carbonara, and the last time Margherita and Pepperoni Pizzas followed by ice creams and coffees . All were excellent, the mains were freshly cooked and served piping hot. There were still more things on the menu we'd like to have tried, so we'll be going back for more next time we're in St. Ives.

Having read the great reviews we decided to book for dinner with friends. It was quite busy when we arrived and we had high hopes. The menu was quite limited but we decided on the sweetcorn fritters which were not very tasty at all and did not go well with hummus. We then all ordered pizza which was slim on toppings with a huge crust. It was £68 for four pizzas and we realised why it was so busy when we arrived . There is an offer of two pizzas for £20 which we were not told about in booking! We felt ripped off and to add insult to injury they slapped a £16 service charge on our bill …for putting the food on the table ! 12.5% which we did not pay! There was only one waiter for the whole restaurant . Many of the best restaurants in Cornwall don’t add a service charge it is always a pleasure to reward amazing service. Beware this overpriced restaurant.

Amazing food!! They have a separate vegan menu and there's a lot to choose from. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Cute cosy atmosphere with real log burner on the go and low lighting. I'd recommend the pizzas, the bases are perfect. To start I'd recommend the Bangladeshi Dahl.

We booked a table at The Old Forge at the weekend for our mums birthday. Becky and the team went above and beyond . The food was delicious and the service was great - our server was extremely attentive. I’d highly recommend.

This is a perfect place for lunch. Nice surroundings, friendly and efficient staff. A wide ranging menu. The food was beyond expectations. Dog friendly as well which is a bonus for us. Parking is a bit limited but we managed to park. There is alternative nearby. Booking advisable This restaurant is used by locals so it is recommended. We were recommended by a local We would definitely go back

Great service, dog friendly lovely food

We stayed in Carbis bay for a week, this is easily the best restaurant around (excluding Adam Handling's Ugly Butterfly, but that's a different category and price point). We came twice and food was divine on both occasions, simple dishes were delicious! I had a Greek salad that was so fresh and vibrant, the quality of ingredients really shone through. My girlfriend had a crab linguine special that she adored both times and I had a pizza and a risotto (both vegetarian) that were amazing. The wine was also a big plus, I think the wine shop next door is run by the same people so there was an impressive list. Service was also excellent. 11/10

We had a lovely lunch here at the Old Forge. The filled ciabatta’s were delicious and generous with the fillings. A bit more expensive than some places but worth it. We have passed this restaurant so many times but never really noticed it, but we will definitely be back.

Very cute, characterful atmosphere with friendly staff. Food was amazing. Best doughballs ever. Steak was cooked to perfection and the ceab linguine was delicious, tonnes of flavour in every mouthful with just a hint of heat. Little hidden gem we hope to return to.
