Without doubt, the strangest pub we have ever visited. On every visit there is something else to see. You can't stop looking around the place with stuffed animals popping up in the strangest places and the most bizarre collection of random items in every possible space available. When the fire is on it is a great place to sit and have a drink although when it's not on it felt a little less welcoming. I can imagine the outside terrace would be great fun in the summer. However, not really a great choice of beers.

The family love going here! The lemonade is AMAZING and the burgers are tasty, we usually stop here after a bike ride, you must go here for the freshest lemonades! The chips are fresh and I recommend the cheesy chips, we have never had a problem here!

Tucked away on Great Minster Street, opposite the magnificent Winchester Cathedral, is this pleasant little pub/eatery. Kitted out with a nice mixture of airy walls and dark panelling, this 18th Century Inn lends itself perhaps more to winter evening dining than bright sunshine at the tail end of Summer. That being said, there is seating outside, though whilst we opted not to make use of this, choosing instead to take a seat inside, on a spacious table by the window with views of the Cathedral. We ordered food. My friend had thr pie of the day with seasonal veg and new potatoes. He assured me it was excellent, whilst I had the breakfast ciabatta which was superb. The service was pleasant, though all the staff looked about 11 years old, and the whole experience was one I shall remember fondly. Who knows when I will be back in Winchester, but if/when I am, I should like to return here.

Great location adjacent to the river with an outside terrace. Large, clean establishment with a decent selection of beers and good bathroom facilities. A nice place to relax and have a drink but the prices were eye watering with a pint of Neck Oil £7.30.

Trading on a name that is somewhat tainted. Visited this restaurant over the weekend with friends. So very disappointed by the place Poor service, poor food, no care. Had to ask and remind staff at every turn. Sides didn’t turn up with main course and when the did, they were cold. Had to remind staff about a drinks order. 45 minutes after our main course plates were cleared, I had to ask the waitress if the restaurant had stopped serving desserts.: Waitress: “No sir, why” me: “so why has no one bothered to offer us one” With So many great options in Winchester why would I ever choose this, or indeed any other Hotel du Vin again???

England v Switzerland. Very noisy but only to be expected. Starter was slow in coming but my fish cakes followed swiftly. The soup starter, potato and onion, was delicious. Likewise the fish cakes were full of flavour and are to be recommended. The pub is not modern, far from it, but the food made up for it. I don't give five stars very often but richly deserved in this case.

Second visit to The Giggling Squid in Winchester. Last time the service was poor but the food was excellent. This time the food and the service were poor. The beef was dry and tough as old boots.

It's hard to write a review when you didn't get served, but here goes. We go here now and then for coffee and a Danish pastry, it can be busy but this time we found most of the tables were empty, so sat down and then I went to order. In spite of so many empty tables and plenty of staff, when I tried to order I was ignored for a good minute or so by the teenagers behind the counter. One then decided to speak to me and said "we're not taking orders as we're too busy, come back in 20 to 30 minutes". They said the same to the people behind me, so now I know why it was half empty. At least I was spared the pain of the pastries that cost over £4. It's a pleasant place to sit and watch the world go by, but never again. I don't like being told my custom isn't wanted because they can't be bothered to get themselves organised. I can see this coffee shop going the same way as the others that folded recently.

Food expensive but ok. It had been raining and they had 2 wet floor signs out. 4 people slipped over in the 30 minutes I was there. I went to tell them that it was too slippery especially the side part. The server said he knew but nothing could be done about it. I stated that it was algae and it could be cleaned or the area worst affected closed off. Nothing was done. Another lady slipped and hurt her knee badly. I reported again and was told there was a sign stating slippery when wet. This sign was 2 Inches x 1.5 inches big on the side of the Cafe in total size. Health and safety are obviously a low priority over profits and no concern was shown to customers even when told.

First place is a local fish and chip shop we visited many times over the past 20 years. During that time it has been operated by various different owners/managers with varying degrees of tastiness and efficiency. Today we were pleasantly surprised to see the new owners and requested our usual fish, chips and mushy peas. We always ask for small portions, but we really couldn’t have eaten anymore of this delicious food. In the terminology of an old TV advert from many years ago, the food looked good, tasted good and my goodness it went down well.
