Pizza Express in Winchester

Overall hygiene in this restaurant is very poor!! Total mess behind the pizza counter. I will not go back.

Pizza had no taste or flavour. Asked for anchovies and there were only about 4 on the entire pizza. Waiter was super nice but real shame on lack of flavour. A Tiny slice of average chocolate cake £8. Extortionate

Reserved a table, but wasn't told until we got here that it was upstairs - and wasn't asked about my mobility until I had already limped up the circular stairscase! Additionally, the toilets are in the basement. Pizza was burnt around the outer edges and additional ingredients missed off. Service however, was excellent and issues corrected when addressed, although having service on one floor and the kitchen on another leads to food coming at different times which is not ideal. 2nd Xmas here, and again we're upstairs - a little chilly. Not told what was off until we started ordering, coffee and desserts again arrive at different times. No low/no beer, Toilets poor, urinals overflowing on auto-flush. Probably a good job they're moving to The Broadway.

Really disappointed with our visit. We booked in advance to have a family lunch while on a Christmas visit to Winchester. We were given a table in the corner downstairs next to a drafty window. Our food arrived, all reheated except the pizza at 3pm, an hour after we had arrived. The waitress and supervisor didn’t bother to check on us while we waited so long for food, we weren’t offered anything or asked if we wanted anything and When we left were ignored. Lunch for 6 was still £100. And ruined by Rude staff, slow service, run down property not surprised to hear someone say it’s closing down. A really disappointing lunch compared to the lovely friendly staff and good service we usually had at Zizzi

Pizza Express is a great place to take young grandchildren. Always good if not exceptional food and very good service.

After a busy day xmas shopping at the christmas market we decided to finally get a late lunch, we walked a little bit away from the busy centre to Pizza Express as we always love this where we live in Reading. This was a very different experience, we entered a very untidy, run down restaurant, however we where so tired by then we stayed. A young girl came over and took our order, she was friendly and well presented she quickly got our order and we ordered our food. During the time we where waiting the restaurant experience got worse- pot noodle on the side next to the wine glasses, manager wearing a ring with an inappropriate word on and with a cap back to front, cold medicine on the side, waiting staff handling salad from a bag between servicing tables without washing hands. During the time we waited a big party left and we left shortly after as we had aready waited an hour . Very diappointed in the whole experience.

Venue is shabby and inconveniently located, but I understand they are shortly relocating to a new premises in the city centre. However on the occasion of our visit we found the restaurant to be extremely cold, so we had to keep our coats on, and even though it was a quiet Monday night the service was terrible. We waited 45 minutes for our pizzas. I had ordered the leggera padana, which used to be a pizza with a hole in the middle, filled with salad (ideal for slimmers, like myself). Now it’s a pile of boring green leaves with a narrow circle of pizza (no wider than about five centimetres) around the outside of the plate. Plus it was cold. Nearly sixteen quid for what is basically about a third of a pizza with a pile of green leaves. Rip-off doesn’t begin to describe it. I complained and the manager removed the cost of our starters and drinks from the bill, by way of compensation. Pizza Express food used to be of consistent quality, no matter which restaurant you visited. Sadly those days are no more. I’m never going back.

took more than an hour to get our food after we ordered. food was quite good but absolutely not one-hour-wait good. we arrived at 2:15 having made a reservation already for that time, we sat down and it took them about 10 minutes to get us menus, then we ordered almost immediately. starters came after around 45 minutes, meals didn't come for around 1h 15 minutes.

Awful customer service. Reservation for 2pm, we were 15 mins early due to just needing to get to the restaurant as my grandmother fainted so desperately needed somewhere for her to sit and have a drink/something to eat. We were immediately made to feel like we were an inconvenience for just being there. Expected my 81 year old grandmother who had just fainted to walk up a spiral staircase. Would not make any adjustments for this as said they don’t do ‘requests’. This was not a request it was literally for an elderly persons health! No empathy, terrible customer service and not an ounce of humanity. We left. Avoid.

Food was cold as well as it being late

Pizza good. Service could be improved. Shabby tired building in need of renovation. A few minutes walk out of city by the river.

Initially delivery was to be 5.30 to 5.40. The food came at 6.15 and was almost cold as we were last in the driver's trip around Winchester. The food tasted alright when heated up but we won't be ordering again.

We both enjoyed our pizzas. Probably the best Sloppy Giuseppe Romana I've had, plenty of toppings and nice crusty base. Staff were very attentive and smiley. Highly recommend.

Came here for a post graduation dinner the other day and it was great. Nice and quiet and nice food. Thanks to the lovely waitress who helped us out.

Fantastic 7th birthday party for my son and his friends!

After a superb day at the motor cross myself and my partner and best friend went for a late dinner at pizza express. We were rather tired and all I can say is the energy from our server Grace really lifted our mood. She was superb, and so polite and hospitable! The food was great and the atmosphere for late on a Sunday was superb. Grace thankyou for making our meal so good! Legend!

Great table by the waterside and plenty of space by table 6 Lovely waitress called Mia who was very attentive and smiling at all times , obviously a busy time as they were turning people away to come back later Food superb and lovely flavours would Definately come back with family

The staff were so wonderful, they were all new as I think just started at the uni. So very early days for them all. However, we were so impressed by their attentiveness I just had to say well done and thank you to them all. The meal was great too. We will definitely be heading back. Thank you all.

It took the delivery driver 20minutes to find the address even though the delivery instructions left were clear. Refused to read them and was confused as the satnav was taking him to the wrong location. We are unwell and driver did not want to come to the front door and had an attitude in doing so. And then the food was cold and the gluten free pizza was overcooked. Very disappointed

Always delicious food and quick service. The team are trying their best but they’re always rushed off their feet and it’s a difficult building. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Hopefully their move to the new site will improve things for the team.

I walked into the premises, it looked dirty and "in NEED of A TOTAL REFURBISHMENT"! How can you expect Customers to pay, approximately £16.00 for a main course, it was a bowl of Lasagne and the pasta was "swimming" in sauce; not to mention, I couldn't eat it, as it was still bubbling from the heat, from MICROWAVING IT!!! My first experience, a couple of years ago, I COULDN'T CUT THROUGH "THE PIZZA BASE, IT WAS SOO HARD"! NEVER AGAIN!

Far too much MSG on pizzas, oil & sauces. Etc. Suffered severe headache for 24 hrs. Never suffered like this 10 years ago. Come on PEx, you can do better than having to use flavour enhancing chemicals.

Appalling is the only word to describe our experience. We waited 1 hour and 50 minutes for the food to arrive! The restaurant was prioritising the food delivery services above the in restaurant customers. We never received our starters, the food was sub-standard and two of the mains were not what was ordered. The tables were grubby and not being cleared. Fortunately we were not seated downstairs otherwise we would have been sharing our “experience” with the continuous queue of irate delivery riders who were not getting their deliveries either. Pizza Express need to decide if they are in the restaurant, or food delivery business. What a waste of a good location! We will not be darkening the doorsteps of a Pizza Express restaurant ever again.

What a absolutely amazing spot to grab a little nibble with the old ball and chain. The food was absolutely out of this world with kitten enjoying the pollo pesto and me tearing a Nduja calzone a new one. I highly recommend this place to any fellow river lovers due to the perfect scenic spot along the River Itchen (my second favourite river in Hampshire), with the food matching the quality of the view. To add to my excitement we were attended to by a very smiley young lady who did a fan dabby dosy job of making sure our glasses were never empty, something the missus came to regret later on. All in all if your looking for a banging bit of dough with tomatoes and stuff on it get your butts down to Pizza Express Winchester!!!

Had the best pizza from a Pizza Express, perfecto. All the staff were pleasant and the chef Eesa had a chat, told him how good he is.

Serves pizza and pasta etc. The venue is nothing special on a lunch time, never been in the evening.

Sorry but you charge top prices for small pizza, and you can't even fill the sauce pot up, gave me 1/3 of a tiny pot, and burnt ends pizza with 4 tiny pieces of meat, taking liberties, rip off sort it out stingy af

Busy little pizza express. Visited weekday at 6 and was packed. Glad I booked. Food was good as you would expect. Service a little slow but they were busy. Used the app first time as I could never get it to load before, assume they have updated. Not easy to use and needed some help but worth it for offers. Not sure if I would return as a little busy for my liking but can't fault food especially GF options, though no GF dough balls any more - sad.

Lovely meal and good service on a busy Friday service. Felt a bit chaotic with Deliveroo/Just Eat collections taking place at times, but we had a good table, attentive and friendly service and tasty food. Haven't visited for a while so will be back.

It's always great vegan pizza at Pizza Express, although there does seem to be less vegan stuff on the menu since I last ate at one. Service was great, but there was a lot of noise coming from upstairs in the restaurant. I'm not sure what was going on. And I may be wrong, but I think there might be some Shrinkflation going on as I'm sure the pizzas used to be bigger. Could be wrong, though.

Pizza was cold when delivered sadly

Disappointing visit and not worth the money. They only serve bottled drinks which work out very expensive. They couldn’t do mixed drinks as a result such as a lager shandy. Main meal dispute being advertised as an American Hot pizza had zero heat despite ordering the hottest of the 3 levels available. Someone needs to check the chilli before putting it on, it might as well have been a slice of pepper. Even if it had some spice it wasn’t tasty. Should have cost £10, not £17. Kids mains were too small, my son’s spaghetti bolognaise had about 20 pieces on penne. Overall save your money and stay at home or go to one of the many other nice venues in Winchester.

Haven't been to Pizza express in a long time but tried for a change, food was disappointing, daughter got wrong food she had ordered, when the right order came looked like pizza had been picked up off the floor. Other daughters pizza was burnt. Costly and won't be going back in a hurry!

Arranged a family lunch on a Tuesday. Food was good with a varied menu. Service was good.

I've been here so many times. We're local and it's always lovely to simply call in with a hungry appetite. Evi the manager is delightful, she always greets us with a smile. The restuarant is full of families and couples so there's a nice buzz but never overwelming if you just want a pleasant dinner with loved ones. We've been to just about eveywhere in Winchester but this is our favourite 'go to'.. never dissapointing, always deliscious.

I had a lasagne which was so tiny and not nice it was unbelievable and charged £16 for the privilege. The other pizzas everyone had were not that great to be honest. Staff did not come and ask if everything was alright if we wanted drinks or anything. To top it off they put a £40 service charge on which was disgusting. At the beginning of the night we asked the waitress if we could all pay separately have separate bills to save the agro at the end of the night to which the waitress said yes that’s fine as she walked off laughing. When the bill came it was all together so my wife spent 45 minutes on her birthday working out who had what and getting frustrated. I would have put a massive complaint in on the night but it was my wife’s birthday and didn’t want to upset her. I will never go here again and would not recommend.

I had never been to a pizza express before and this visit has convinced me to never go again. As we entered the restaurant we weren’t greeted at all. Meaning we had to awkwardly stand there until a Waittress finally acknowledged us. We then had to wait for a table to be cleaned so we could be seated for our booking, which wasn’t an issue. But the restaurant wasn’t that busy and every other table was left dirty. From start to finish of my visit not one table around us was cleaned. Service was incredibly slow. Not only did we watch our mains sit at the kitchen for a while before being brought over, we then had to wait 30 minutes for our plates to be cleared once we’d actually finished them. And in all honesty the food wasn’t that great, the pizza definitely wasn’t worth the money. When our plates were finally cleared, we weren’t offered a pudding menu or the bill and we were just left there! In conclusion, customer service is absolutely terrible, the food is mediocre and the high prices don’t reflect the quality/portion size of the food. I do not recommend whatsoever.

Enjoyable pizza and decent wine at a reasonable price. The premises are not the best, which is understandable due to the listed building status imposing constraints, however some of the avoidable mistakes cannot be overlooked: one menu for 2 people, lipstick on wine glass, chairs covered in food debris etc.

Service can be a little hit n miss but generally good, nice food, reasonably priced and fast service.

Dined in at the end of a tour, they kindly found us a table off the cuff, although there were many tables free, just not cleared. The same was upstairs where we were seated, cluttered table around us although not many tables taken. The food was nice, i finished my meal as did my husband. Just a shame about the clutter and mess.

Really disappointed. Restaurant was cold and very messy. Sat at a broken table so had to ask to be moved. The waiter had to be prompted to take our order. The food was ok but the pizza bases were soggy. Staff too busy pulling each others hair and chatting to clean. Won’t be going back.

I get that the price has gone up for everything but £8 for 4 pigs 🐖 in blankets is obscene and my pizza didn't have enough cheese or tomato to cover the base. Sorry but £50 for 1 starter 2 mains and 2 drinks when it's not the best, I would rather stay home. I would like to shout out to one of the managers. My diabetic husband had low sugars and he was really good at getting us a sugary drink.....quickly.

I find it’s always a bit ‘hit and miss’ with pizza express. Some are excellent and others, like this one, could do with a bit of ‘love’ ie a good clean - unless they are going for a ‘rustic’ vibe!! Just felt a bit grubby with tacky tables and staff sitting around chatting!! Maybe it was the time of day we visited - somewhere between lunch and dinner, it was quiet so you’d expect things to be clean and tidy - though the service was friendly and quick. Pizza quality good and nice location.

The Food took 2 hours to arrive and the food was semi cold and the garlic bread with mozzarella was very burnt

Worst service we have ever experienced. 45 minutes for a starter which was well below average then another 50 minutes for the main, which was a cremated pizza. Nothing like the one advertised - We spoke to the "manager" and showed him the food which was basically a shallow burnt base with little topping...he showed no professionalism at all, not even an apology . The food was late and awful and a small discount didn't suffice. We have been going here for many years but I think that boat has sailed. Shame

We have been going here for around ten years as a team of friends catching up, but this visit was dreadful. The starters of dough balls and halloumi bites (underwhelming presentation) arrived after a 45 minute wait, then the pizza main courses a further 50 minute wait, arrived at quarter to ten ( we had put in our order at 8.15pm.) The Christmas wreath "special" well, not sure which Christmas it had been celebrating but it was dry, burnt in places and shrivelled and looked nothing like the glam pizza express marketing pics! Definitely not worth the £15 it cost. The Legerra pizza idea is to have a reasonable hole removed from the inside of the base and filled with salad. The problem is the middle hole has gotten much bigger, leaving a small circumference of pizza, poor value indeed in these times. The other issue was the "manager", his attitude was dismissive, disinterested and frankly argumentative about our concerns, citing a "dough issue" as cause of the evenings problems. We received a free drink each and a discount off the bill, which was something but not enough to encourage us to EVER go back. We also heard his "managerial" response to another irate customer, to whom he was directly and downright rude. Shame , used to love it there 😔

Delivery was late. Pizza and desserts were awful quality and cold. They offered to send out delivery again but we only wanted refund which they refused

Order was placed …. Never delivered. Time kept being moved further and further away. Over an hour after the order should of been delivered I phoned and asked to cancel as couldn’t on just eat, said being prepared despite being only received on the app … appears despite no drivers available for over an hour the food was cooked and kept warm for over an hour !!!! Awful food! Who keeps calamari in a warmer for over an hour ?!

Missing items and stone cold and broken

I love pizza express, but this one has made me seriously think if I wish to visit again. We had a variety of servers, my partner in crime has a Gluten intolerance and this caused a few issues. First server told us no problem with order, then next server says can't order that pizza if want gluten. So need to order again, including me, even though I'm having the same. Then different server has to bring my friends drink, because I stated she still hadn't received it. We both ordered a Leggera to begin with, which has salad in the middle (I'm sure before it had more than just salad leaves). Why my friend couldn't have this is strange, only difference with normal pizza is middle has been cut out. Anyhow I digress. Pizza arrives and mine looks messy, salad leaves outside the hole in the middle and some of the dressing is on the pizza - very slap dash. My friends pizza had far too much sauce for the base, infact that was mainly what it was and she wasn't very happy if I'm honest. We ordered coffees with small dessert, run out of what my friend wanted (not a happy bunny by now and just wants to leave). My coffee was nice but my friend left most of hers as not happy and the staff just didn't seem to care. The service over all left a lot to be desired, we will definitely not be back.

Waited for table to be cleaned even though quite. Waited for a straw while they talked. Asked for more drinks to go with food, but they came when we finished. And to cap it all off, had a screaming kid on another table but so small, you can't move.

Really disappointed I came here for a family celebration and firstly I have a family member with a disability and the was too many stairs then we ordered and we even mentioned that is family member was diabetic and their food took an awfully long time so that wasn’t amazing the food was average but still not as amazing as we have had in other pizza expresses then we ordered desserts an it took an hour to come and it wasn’t even a very difficult order and the toilets were down another set of stairs so definitely do not come here if you have a disability it was absolutely boiling in the building and not even that the pizza express app that always works for us in other pizza expresses so never come here needs major improvement more staff bigger kitchen so overall awful experience for us do not come here.

Thursday lunchtime, checked the website which showed as having tables to book from 12.45 on wards at 15 min intervals. As we were nearby we thought be easier to just pop in. Lady opened the door, asked my husband if he had a booking, slammed door in his face when he said no saying they were fully booked. I went back in and explained that no worries, we'd definitely go elsewhere, but just to let her know the website was shown as being fully available all afternoon (there was 1 table of people in the restaurant.) And that she might want to explain to her manager the lack of custom. I walked out and she came running out pleading 'lack of staff'..... so to the lady working Thurs lunchtime in an otherwise empty restaurant, I hope your manager realises you turn away paying customers through sheer bone idleness. The whole world is short staffed I'm afraid, deal with it or change jobs.

Delivered the wrong thing, completely ruined dinner, could not get hold of anyone, restaurant just kept hanging up.

I always go to this immaculate establishment; whenever travelling across the South of England. Amazing service, staff, chefs, and cooking. The restaurant never has a line whenever I go to it, and has a lovely, and roomy atmosphere. I will always order a Hot American pizza, and I recommend choosing the option of the chef placing upon the pizza, jalapeñi.

Came here for a meal using Tesco vouchers. Nice location next to the city mill. Sat next to the window so had good view of the river next to us and then watching people pass by. Had very friendly waitress who looked after us well. Food was delicious and always tastes better when you’re paying less because of vouchers. They take Amex here too which is good. All in all a good experience. Would come back again. Just a tip - the tables could do with a good wipe, were slightly sticky.

Zero service from staff, unclean tables, no cutlery. Worst Pizza Express I’ve been to. The food was appalling in terms of quantity and size of portions. My 8 year and 10 year old kids ordered adult pizzas and were still hungry afterwards as so small. I ordered extra mushrooms, but my pizza had less than one mushroom on it. Order a jug of water which took 45 mins to arrive, water was Luke warm with unclean glasses. Would steer well clear of this establishment.

I have eaten at many Pizza Express restaurants and I have eaten at the Winchester branch a fair few times over the years and it is always sadly disappointing. Staff don't seem bothered,food was ok when the correct food did arrive, drinks were warm and underwhelming.

I always order the same thing (if it ain't broke...) and here there was slightly more pepper on the pizza than Pizzaexpress usually serve. But it was nice - I like pepper! Staff very attentive.
